History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

Love this truck so far.. 7 months old no problems yet. Added an ARE cap over bed and love it, got the Suburban look minus the $15,000 difference in price. Fits the car seats easily and the adults even easier. Haven't done a long trip yet but Summer is aproaching and a looking forward to the drive. (Even if the gas costs $4.00 per gal.) Wish I could get better gas mileage but it's a full size truck not a Honda CRV, which is easy to remember when I load it to the hilt , shopping or constructing, get it all in. Only things added was remote starter and sliding rear window (vital) which were negotiated during sale.

Your GMC truck is very reliable. The body integrity, motor and drive train have given you nothing but good service. You drive it to work every day, which is about 120 mile round trip, and find it comfortable and safe to handle and control in heavy traffic. It's great to hear that you enjoy your truck so much!

You've driven about 2200 miles in the first month, half of which were towing a 5,500 lb. ski/wakeboard boat. This truck is incredible for towing! The AWD never spins on the ramp or backing up your 13% driveway with the boat. Loaded, the ride is excellent. Unloaded, it's a little choppy compared to your previous Yukon Denali XL, but hey, it's a truck. The mileage is better than your '01 DXL at 14mpg average. Again, it's a 345HP truck, it's for hauling. This is a great truck! Unloaded, this thing is fast for a truck and fun to drive. No problems so far.

This has been a great truck! It's surprising to hear that someone had trouble towing with the 6 cylinder, but I agree that the V8 is the way to go for heavy loads. Personally, I've had no issues with my 5.3 and have even towed a 7000 lb boat, motor, and trailer with ease thanks to the G38 locking differential. I also added a K&N cold air intake and Gibson cat back exhaust, which has helped me achieve an impressive 22 MPG on the interstate and 28 at 55 MPH.

It seems like the casteck heads in my 5.3 are defective and they are causing a coolant leak. This is resulting in a sound that resembles a bad lifter. It's important to know which heads are in your 5.3 before making a purchase, otherwise you may end up with a truck that requires repairs that exceed its value.

Have you ever wondered why GM truck owners have to turn their hitches upside down? It seems that even with Z-71, the suspension and trailering provisions are too soft and too low. Additionally, the standard rear-end is going to be a 3.42, which is great for mileage but not so good for loading. Even with the 5.3, the engineers have turned up the computer trying to hide the small rear end. Posi-trac is not so good, and one slick boat ramp and you will be glad for 4WD. Even when empty on the highway using cruise, the drivetrain cannot maintain enough power on hills to keep from downshifting and raising the RPMs. Personally, I pull three trailers ranging from 900 to 5100 pounds, and all of them will wag this truck around easily. I have gone through three sets of brakes/rotors already.

The doors and cab seals may require a bit of force to close properly. The vehicle's fuel efficiency is 18 mpg, which is slightly lower than the advertised 20 mpg. Some improvements can be made to enhance the gas mileage. The steering may produce a knocking sound, and there may be some noise from the AC vent door. The front windshield may require some adjustments to seal correctly. The radio and speakers may not be of the highest quality. The driver's seat may not be very comfortable due to limited adjustments. The fuse box may be in an inconvenient location. While there may be some areas for improvement, the truck is still a reliable option.

I regret to report that my experience with this truck has been less than satisfactory. Despite being a decent vehicle at the time of purchase, it has proven to be unreliable in a number of ways, including issues with towing, piston slap, transmission problems, and various other mechanical failures. Additionally, there have been numerous creaks, squeaks, and other noises, as well as problems with the steering shaft, lights, sound system, tires, and brakes. Regrettably, this has been my second and final GM purchase, as I have decided to switch to a Dodge.

My experience with my most recent GMC has been less than satisfactory. Unfortunately, I have had to visit the dealership three times to repair my air conditioner, and I have been experiencing drive train problems since the first 700 miles. Additionally, when towing a small boat, I have noticed a lack of towing power and a loud whining noise. Despite my frustrations, I am hopeful that the dealership will be able to assist me with my concerns. I have been a loyal customer of this dealership, having purchased five full size GMCs from them, and I am confident that we can work together to find a solution.
