History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: 10/9/24: All interior vehicle sounds (turn signals, hazard lights, parking warnings, collision warnings, etc.) along with the audio sound system, are audible in my vehicle via the vehicles’s audio system speakers. For reasons unknown and without warning, all interior vehicle sounds and the audio sound system cease to make audible sound; however, the infotainment display screen and the instrument cluster screen continue displaying normally and appear to function properly (system still accepts touch screen inputs and visibly displays volume knob input adjustments). So, in summary, a disconnect occurs between the infotainment system / vehicle audible warnings and the vehicle’s speakers, through which the sounds emitted. We purchased our 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 as a brand-new purchase on 9/30/24 and it is completely stock, with no post-purchase or aftermarket alterations having been made to the vehicle. This issue has occurred on two separate occasions since the purchase date, with the occurrences happening on 10/8/24, and once on 10/9/24. When this sound-disconnect issue occurs, it will last indefinitely until we remedy the issue. The only remedy for this issue that has worked thus far requires that we completely shut the vehicle down, wait a few minutes, and then restart the vehicle. In researching this issue, I have found multiple comments over various forums by various users who have reported dealing with this same issue.

- Summary: The DIC randomly displays “check trailer wiring” then says “brakes connected” over and over. When this happens the brakes on the trailer quit working, all lights continue to work all the time. It hasn’t been back to the dealer yet but I will take it when I can. Other vehicles have no issues with this trailers brakes when towing. I have replaced the trailer pig tail 7 pin plug, cleaned all connections etc. The only thing that works so far is to disconnect one of 4 electric brakes then the DIC is silent and 3 brakes function. I even replaced some magnets in the trailer brakes but they were working prior to the DIC message that began on my second towing trip. There is a technical bulletin for some GMC trucks but my model isn’t listed as one. I believe it to be the controller or software since nothing seems to work as far as the trailer is concerned. It isn’t my trailers issue…I know they are going to say it is.

I talked to the dealer service department about this and they said it’s a design flaw with GMC and nothing they could do. I Also looked online and see several people complaining about the same thing. This truck has as of today 268 miles on it. I called GMC help center and just got the runaround telling me I would have to go back to the dealer for them to fix the problem even after telling them several times that the dealer said nothing they could do it’s a design flaw with GMC. I believe GMC should be made to do a recall and fix this safety problem.

- Summary: To Whom It May Concern, This is a brand new 2024 GMC Sierra AT4 Diesel Truck with 4,000 miles. The first incident occurred when I was doing about 5 mph. The truck maintained its speed without my foot on the gas pedal and the cruise control was not on. Then when I tapped the gas pedal, everything return to normal. The second incident was about 2 weeks later in which the same thing happened. The third incident which was about one week later, I was doing about 5 mph and the truck accelerated on its own. I let the truck accelerate to approximately 28 mph. At that point I hit the brakes to stop the vechicle and pulled over. The truck was idling very high so I turned off the engine. All the ignition lighting remained on, but the truck would not restart. Even after removing the keys from the vehicle the ignition lighting remained on. At that point the truck had be towed back to the dealership which is Rainbow Buick, GMC in Covington, Louisiana. I've been told by the Rainbow Service Department that they do not know what's wrong with the truck. It's been sitting there for 10 days now was a dead battery. My salesman who I don't really believe, said he has the exact same truck and it happen to his tuck at 30,000 miles. I file a claim with GMC Customer Support but have yet to hear from them. - Summary: I was stopped at a light while I was in drive. While I was waiting for the light to change the truck shut off suddenly with no warning. The dash message said to restart truck. I had to put it back in park then hit the push button to restart truck. It started right away. The truck had enough fuel and no reason to shut off on its own. The truck has less than 1,200 miles when this occurred. The truck had a shudder when it downshifted prior to this happening and then shut off about a minute later. Some shuddering seems to be the way the truck downshifts. This is dangerous if you have to just slow down and takeoff again and then it shuts off on it’s own. This can cause a crash.

- Summary: I was driving my vehicle, with my 9-year-old son in the back, when it seemed to completely lose power and shut down (while I was driving!). The power steering, brakes, and gas all gave out. I was able to steer myself toward the side of the road where I waited for a tow. The vehicle would not start, nor would it shift into neutral, which led to towing challenges. This is a 2024 vehicle that I've had for about eight months, and it completely gave out while I was driving with a child in the back, which is a significant safety concern. Nobody at the dealership or GMC is able to offer anything with respect to information on how or why this happened and what you are doing to resolve the issue. From what I see online, this is a known issue that GMC is likely to be sued for in the future.

There were no lights or messages prior to the failure.

Proceeded to my Mom's house and took her for a ride then came home. Next afternoon went to take out garbage and noticed puddle by passenger rear tire. Got under truck and found shock to be completely wet. Called Dealer and made appointment to bring truck in next morning. Brought truck in next day and Dealer confirmed that shock was blown. Shock is not in stock but was ordered. Currently waiting for delivery to set up appointment to replace shock (Only the one that is blown of course). Truck now has 108 miles. 60 of those miles are driving from, back to and back home from the dealer. Now it sits with cardboard under it and once repaired, I have the bonus of scrubbing multiple oil slicks off of my driveway. Glad I wasn't towing or carrying a payload...

The contact independently added lights to the rear of the vehicle however, the failure persisted. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V709000 (Back Over Prevention) as a possible solution however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and explained that the supplier was changed in 2023 and the camera was operating as designed. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

I have also written letters to GMC Corporate and the Castle Rock GMC General Manager, both of which were also ignored.

The Diesel Denali 1500 truck rides really well. It is much smoother than the Ford 150 and the Denali Diesel has great mileage. I'm getting 20mpg around town and 29mpg on the road. The AAT$ also has a smooth ride.

The Denali Ultimate trim stands out from the rest with its exceptional features. Although it may not seem like a significant upgrade on paper, in person, it transforms into a proper luxury truck. The seats are incredibly comfortable, with numerous adjustments, massage options, and real leather upholstery that looks, feels, and smells like a high-end BMW. The stereo upgrade is not just about adding more speakers; the sound quality is significantly improved with better soundstage, lows, highs, and more. The interior is even quieter, providing a more serene driving experience. The overall appearance upgrades, such as the unique grill, wheels, suede headliner, and nice wood/metallic trim pieces, along with every option box checked (sunroof, HUD, carbon pro bed, power running boards, etc.), make it easy to justify the higher price. While the 3.0 Diesel is a great option for its fuel economy and torque, the quick and great sounding 6.2l V8 is hard to pass up. Although it may not be cheap, if you value proper luxury and can afford it, the Denali Ultimate is absolutely worth it.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my new GMC 1500 Sierra Denali. As someone who has owned pick up trucks for most of my life, I was really impressed with the beautiful interior and the many features that help me with my handicap. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing some issues with the GPS and radio not working properly, as well as the breaking system slamming on when I'm coasting. I've brought these issues to the attention of the dealer and have even shown them videos, but they keep saying it's a software problem or that they can't duplicate the issues. I'm hoping we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your time.

In July 2023, I purchased the 2023 Sierra Elevation as a quick replacement for my totaled 2021 F150 Hybrid. It's a beautiful truck with a 5.3L V8 engine that provides plenty of power and a smooth ride. Although I towed with it once without any issues, I wouldn't buy it again. I thought it had a 9500 lb towing capacity, but it turned out to be only 9300 lb. Additionally, GM would not sell me towing mirrors, which was disappointing. I ended up buying Boost towing mirrors, which aren't as good as GMC's towing mirrors. When I went to plug in my trailer backup camera, I realized it didn't have a cigarette lighter plug, so I had to buy a USB adapter to cigarette lighter plug. The gas tank is too small for a truck with the towing package, and it didn't have a brake controller, so the dealer installed a Curt Spectrum brake controller, which is too complicated for me. Although the truck has some drawbacks, I haven't had any recalls or issues like I did with my F150. However, I think I'm going to go back to a F150 Hybrid. Thank you for considering my feedback.

Congratulations on your new 2024 Sierra Crew Cab 4 Wheel Drive! It's important to note that to access the full navigation map, you'll need to subscribe to OnStar. However, if you have a smartphone, you can still access half of the screen for navigation. Just keep in mind that without OnStar or your phone, you won't have access to any maps on the big screen. We understand your frustration, but we hope you'll continue to consider GM for your future vehicle purchases.
