The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

I'm so glad to hear that you love your truck! It sounds like you've made some great modifications to improve its power, comfort, and styling. Adding a super chip programmer, cold air intake, and magna flow muffler must have made a big difference. It's exciting to think about what other modifications you might make in the future, like gears and a supercharger!

Out of the F150, Titan, and Tundra, I found that the GM trucks were easily the best, and of those two, the GMC looks better. I rated my truck a 10 in every category except for fuel economy. I currently get around 18mpg mixed with the 5.3L 4x4 extended cab, but I was told that after a few thousand miles it will improve. So far, I have only driven 1700 miles. The ride is great, and the remote start has come in handy in warming up the interior these last few weeks. The engine power is good, and the transmission is smooth and responsive. The 4x4 is also responsive.

I have been a loyal GMC customer and this was my third purchase of a GMC truck. I was thrilled when I saw the truck for the first time, it looked amazing. Unfortunately, I have had to visit the dealer seven times due to twenty different issues. The latest problem is that the truck burns almost 2 quarts of oil in 1000 miles and the valvetrain noise is also a concern. GM has asked me to do an oil consumption test and now they want my dealership to take it on a trip to conduct their own test. I hope this issue can be resolved soon.

Hi there! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We bought our GMC truck specifically for hauling things, and it has been a great choice. The regular cab and 8ft bed with 4.3l automatic work truck provide us with plenty of space for our rental property needs. We've loaded lots of stuff in the back, including sheets of plywood and drywall, and it handles the weight with ease. Although I'm not a big fan of trucks, I have to admit that this one gets the job done. We did have a couple of minor issues with the flip down covers for the power ports and the rubber stops for the gas cover, but they were quickly replaced. Overall, we're happy with our purchase and would recommend it to others. The airbag light did come on once and shut off the engine, but the dealer updated the software and it hasn't happened again.

If you're considering the GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3L or 6.0L engine equipped with Active Fuel Management, it's important to note that some customers have reported issues similar to those experienced with the old V8-6-4 engine. Unfortunately, GM does not currently offer a program to address this problem. However, the 2500 series with the 6.0L engine without active fuel management may be a better option for you. The vehicle is rated at 16 in the city and 20 on the highway. Although I was expecting 15 in the city and 18 on the highway, I am realistically getting approximately 12.4 in the city and 16.5 on the highway. I have checked several times and I am confident in my measurements. As a good and conservative driver aged 77, I have been driving GMC trucks for 18 years and I can confidently say that they are the best overall trucks for quality, performance, and resale.

The gas consumption is not great, only 14 mph when driving under 55. The tire monitoring system may not be necessary. The split seats are uncomfortable, and some may prefer the bench seat. With the new design, there is limited space behind the seat for storage. The jack can be difficult to replace behind the passenger seat. Some may find the jack inadequate and prefer to replace it. The controls for the AC may be complex for some. Auto headlights may not be necessary for some drivers. The truck and controls may take some time to get used to. We understand your frustration, but we hope you can find some enjoyment in your new truck.

I have owned the truck for a few months and is overall a great truck, much more solid than my 2004 Chevy 1500. But the mileage I had on the old truck was 16-18 mpg and now I get 11 mpg. I have called the dealer and they keep telling me to give it some break in time. This is my fifth new vehicle and I have never had this problem before, I would really have trouble recommending this truck at this point.

I really like the look of the 6.0 litre Vortex Max truck and it is definitely a hard worker. However, I have noticed that after 2 years, I am using approximately 1 1/2 quarts of oil between changes. By the time it reaches 3 to 4 years old, I can't make it to a full oil change before getting a low oil light (about 3 quarts low). There are no leaks, it's just burning oil. Additionally, the truck is quite large and has limited leg room for me. The throttle response can also be delayed, which can be scary when trying to cross a busy street. Lastly, I have noticed that some of the parts are cheaply made, such as the stabilizer link made from plastic. I think this could be improved.
