Common Chevrolet Blazer problems

The Chevrolet Blazer has faced a number of common problems over the years, particularly in relation to its engine and fuel system. According to CarParts.com, the most commonly reported issue is a faulty fuel gauge, which tends to show up in the 2000 Blazer. This can lead to issues with fuel consumption and accuracy, causing inconvenience and potential safety risks for drivers.

Another common problem with the Chevrolet Blazer is fuel pump failure, which can affect the engine's ability to run smoothly. This issue has been reported in various model years, including 2005 and 1990-2005.

The distributor is another component that has caused issues for Chevrolet Blazer owners. In particular, internal defects within the 2001 Chevy Blazer distributor can affect the way the engine operates, causing it to run roughly or stall. Drivers may be forced to overhaul the distributor or replace the faulty ignition part as soon as possible to resolve this issue.

In addition to these engine and fuel system issues, the Chevrolet Blazer has also faced problems with its electrical system. For example, a "Shift to Park" error message has been reported in the 2019 redesign, which is usually accompanied by other problems like an activated horn, defective door locks, and a malfunctioning electrical system.

The 2004 Chevrolet Blazer has been identified as the model year that received the most overall complaints, while the 1994 Blazer was considered the worst model year for various problems.

In summary, the Chevrolet Blazer has faced a number of common problems over the years, particularly in relation to its engine and fuel system. These issues can cause inconvenience and potential safety risks for drivers, and may require costly repairs or replacements. It is important for Chevrolet Blazer owners to be aware of these common problems and to take steps to maintain their vehicles properly to help prevent them.

Chevrolet Blazer 2021
  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-17
  • Date Complaint: 2024-10-17
  • VIN: 3GNKBKRSXMS
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: The Radiator has a crack in the upper left front of the core causing the fluid to leak and lose pressure causing the engine to overheat. This is a manufacture defect that has not been addressed as of 10/16/2024. The leak was discovered by a certified GM mechanic at a dealership when doing routine maintenance and inspection. The vehicle has never had any indication or advisory light that would alert the operator. As the engine overheats it can cause many of the other components of the vehicle to disable, including but not limited to the ADAS systems as well as power steering and/or collision safety components. This is a manufactures defect with the aluminum radiator that needs to be addressed immediately. Given the information from multiple GM dealerships the amount of newer low mileage Blazers that have been confronted with this problem is unprecedented. This not only creates a danger for the passengers of the vehicle but also every other vehicle on the road.

Less than 1 yr later, thermostat is stuck on cold, no ax or heat, drivers assist reduced notice. Same issues as previous documented complaints. The frustration is why this known issue is not covered under warranty or recall! I just had my 50k maintenance service done while this issue was occurring- service told me “well we cleared the codes” , 2 days later check engine is on, temp stuck on cold, fan is over worked and no a/c or heat- and driver assist turns off. The safety issues around causing more engine damage by improper cooling and reduction of driving assistance. Additionally, parking issue with vehicle not recognizing it’s in park and having to wiggle or jam the shifter- car drains battery and won’t lock until resolved. Car is took expensive to have a $1200 replacement not covered under warranty!

Chevrolet Blazer 2019
  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-21
  • Date Complaint: 2024-09-26
  • VIN: 3GNKBBRA9KS
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: My 2019 Blazer won't shut off the electrical system because of a "shift to park" error. This causes a drain to the battery and could leave me stranded. The problem is simple electrical switch that is not making the connection to tell the car to shut off. This is a well documented problem with chevy vehicles in the late 2010s and includes multiple models. I have not had the problem verified by a Chevrolet dealer. I've reviewed multipe youtube videos that has had 10s of thousands of views which demonstrates the problem is very wide spread. Why is this not being recalled?
Chevrolet Blazer 2019
  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-24
  • Date Complaint: 2024-09-26
  • VIN: 3GNKBERS1KS
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: When placing the vehicle in the park position and attempting to shut the vehicle off with the push button my DIC flashes a message stating to 'shift vehicle into park'. I have to move the shifter from park to another gear several times in order to keep this from appearing and allowing me to turn my vehicle off. I can take up to 5-6 times before I can get the vehicle to allow me to turn it off. I'm not really sure if it is or isn't in park even when I do this at that point. I have had this happen on multiple occasions over multiple months.
Chevrolet Blazer 2020
  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-24
  • Date Complaint: 2024-09-25
  • VIN: 3GNKBCR47LS
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: 2020 Chevy Blazer - Shift to Park while Gear is already in Park: While putting the gear in park, the warning chime to shift it into park is initiated. It has happened 3 to 4 times in the past three days. I took the vehicle to the Local Chevy Dealership. The Service Team/Dept. diagnosed that the Transmission Shifter Unit Assembly must be replaced. The 2019 Chevy Blazer had these issues which prompted a TSB/Recall however it wasn't extended to the 2020-year models and Chevy Dealership refused to include it as a warranted repair which just passed 44,000 miles. This is a safety issue, and it should be replaced without additional cost to customer as this issue was already identified as a safety concern in 2019, however Chevy does not want to identify the issue as a covered repair per the manufactures warranty.

  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, replacing them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 22, 2021. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Buick customer service at 1-866-608-8080, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N212329050.

I'm glad to hear that you've had a positive experience with your four door Blazer over the past 8 months. It's understandable to be hesitant about purchasing another GM product after experiencing numerous costly repairs with an Olds, but it's great to hear that the Blazer has decent build quality and a comfortable interior. Although the grey interior may be a bit drab, it's good to know that you've taken steps to improve its performance with a K&N open air induction and a 'Tornado'. It sounds like these upgrades have made a significant difference, especially when passing a semi uphill. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Within 75k miles, you may have experienced some issues with your Chevrolet. These include door pins and hinges going bad, the right hub going bad, transfer case leaks, radiator issues, and a blown head gasket. Additionally, the passenger seat handle may have broken twice, and you may have had to replace the fuel injectors and fuel pump. We understand your frustration and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to assist you further.

The car has a lot of power and features, especially the RS version, and the styling both inside and out is nice. However, there are some issues that need to be addressed. For example, the location of the parking button needs to be moved as it is easy to hit when entering or exiting the car. Additionally, the seats could use a redesign as they are not particularly supportive or comfortable. The implementation of Android Auto is poor and I have experienced occasional disconnections, which was never an issue with my Sorentos. The lane keep assist is also too aggressive, making it difficult to move over slightly to give more room to a person walking their dog. I ended up turning this feature off. Looking back, I would have considered other vehicles more seriously.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share that I'm currently driving my daughter's red 1999 2 door LS Blazer. She recently bought a new X-Terra stick shift, but the Blazer has been so reliable that we didn't want to trade it in. It has 186,000 miles on it, but it still runs and drives great (although it's a little weak going uphill, but then again, so am I... old age!). Anyway, I really like this Blazer and we'll keep it in the shop for a runabout as it still looks nearly new.

Although it may be considered an acceptable SUV, I would not choose to purchase it again. The interior of the vehicle is not spacious enough to accommodate a sufficient number of passengers, particularly if car seats are required. As a result, it is not an ideal choice for families. Additionally, the gas mileage is subpar, requiring me to refill the tank on a weekly basis even for routine errands such as grocery shopping and school drop-offs.

You sound very pleased with your vehicle! It's great to hear that it has been reliable with very few problems. Although you had a transmission issue within the first 2 years, it was covered under warranty. It's impressive that your tires lasted over 53,000 miles! However, it's a shame that the rear window washer feeder line has been causing some trouble by coming loose. I understand that you're starting to hear a few annoying rattles inside the cabin, coming from the doors. On the bright side, you love the 4.3 L engine, which you also had in your previous GMC Jimmy. Overall, it sounds like your vehicle has met your needs just fine.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it back in 1999 and it still looks as good as new, both inside and out! One of the best things about it is that the A/C is still the coldest I've ever experienced. Even after it was stolen and taken on a high-speed chase across the country a few years ago, it didn't need any major repairs. I mostly use it for highway driving and it gets a solid 23/24 mpg. Of course, being a 2-door car means that space is a bit limited, but I still love it. Plus, the drop-down true tailgate is a really nice touch. Overall, it's just a really fun car to drive!

About Me: Hi there! I'm a tall guy at 6'3'', and my son is even taller at 6'7''. We're big fans of GM because they make cars that are perfect for tall drivers and passengers like us. Safety is a top priority for me, so I'm looking for a car with automatic braking, a high-resolution backup camera, and enough space for two adults to comfortably share the center armrest. I'm not a big fan of theaters with shared armrests, so that's definitely a deal-breaker for me. While I don't tow often, I still want the option, and 4WD is a must-have for Canadian winters. I also love a heated steering wheel because if your hands are warm, the rest of you feels warm too. When it comes to driving, I'm looking for a vehicle with good handling, precise steering, and no torque steer at low and medium acceleration. In 4WD, there should be no noticeable torque steer at high acceleration. Tech integration is also important to me. However, there are a few cons to consider. The headroom in the back is a bit low for my son, and he can feel a bit squashed. The adjust-steering wheel button on the side of the steering wheel can be accidentally hit by a tall person's knee, causing the steering wheel to lower and potentially cause injury. Additionally, the passenger side wiper pivots from the center of the car, leaving a blind spot for tall passengers. I prefer wipers that pivot from the edges for better coverage. The 21'' tires can be a bit noisy on bumpy roads, and the doors don't automatically relock if you accidentally pocket-press them, even though the auto-lock option is selected. The hands-free rear hatch can also be a bit finicky and often takes two tries of foot waving to open. Lastly, the memory settings need more features to understand my wife and I like different display options. OnStar's 10-minute response time for day-to-day use is too slow to be useful, and the SD card slot in a user-accessible area with map data makes no sense to me. However, I did discover that the gas mileage is better than the sticker when using adaptive cruise control on the highway, and the engine changes to 4 cylinders when 6 are not needed. Thanks for listening! The twin clutch with torque vectoring makes driving through corners on the highway extremely satisfying, giving you the feeling of driving on a banked turn. The rear headrests have tilt buttons on them, preventing them from hitting the front seat when folding the rear seats down. All windows can be lowered from the remote, which is especially helpful on hot days. The wireless android auto and wireless charger are must-haves for my wife who hates wires and mess. I tested them with an iPhone XR and Samsung S21, and it would be nice if there was room for charging two phones. The vehicle's Amazon Echo is functional via cell phone without an OnStar data plan, which is handy. I have not had to clean the rear camera often, as the automatic cleaner does the job perfectly. The headlight beam pattern is interesting, as it projects light in the most intelligent way with a hard horizontal line, which I suspect will perform well in fog and reduce light into the eyes of oncoming traffic. The seat cooling works, but the fan can be a bit noisy on high. The sun visor vanity lights are soft-start, giving your eyes time to adjust. The awesome must-have features once you try them: Adaptive cruise control is amazing, as it's faster reacting than me, but controls speed much like I would. The must-have haptic seat for alert warnings is so much better than beeping, especially when having conversations, as it alerts you to the direction of the hazard. I want one of those for my XBOX. Rear Cross Traffic alert sees things before I do. Hotspot access allows me to connect the Blazer to my home's WIFI network or to my cellphone's hotspot. Bose Speakers provide excellent HQ sound for streaming from my phone, while Sirius radio sounds flat and unappealing to me. Additional items after 8 months of ownership: The 4-wheel drive and handling in deep snow, 4 inches with a few 16The automatic braking system works really well, my wife has tested it three times! The USB MP3 playback is great and saves bandwidth. The electronic parking brake is a great feature, as it doesn't require a pedal or hand-lever, which makes more space available for your feet or console. We had zero issues with the wireless phone charger, unlike my Chevy Cruze, which never worked with anything. However, the garage door open buttons do not light up, making them hard to find in the dark. We need to do more testing on the Tire Fill Alert, as it did not beep when adjusting tire pressure, resulting in over inflation. Perhaps the pressure has to be lower first. We also experienced a small issue with music streaming from my cell phone, with music pausing every other second. This needs more testing and was cleared by turning the phone's WIFI on and off. Some features that we would like to see in the future include auto tilt mirrors for parking, two more loops at the rear hatch to hang a cargo net with four tie points, hooks that attach to the cargo organizer bar to hold shopping bags, cheap 21

I bought this car used in 2005 with only 17k miles for $17k. Despite having 224k miles now, it still runs great. Of course, I've had a few minor issues over the years, but that's to be expected with any vehicle. It still gets over 21 miles to the gallon on the interstate and runs like a dream. The white paint has held up remarkably well and the interior is still in great shape. I honestly have zero complaints. The only maintenance I've had to do was on the intake manifold gasket, alternator, A/C compressor, ball joints, and a transmission electronic module. None of these were major issues and they all occurred at reasonable mileage. I wouldn't dream of selling it. Although it's only worth around $2500 - $3000 on the street, it's worth so much more to me. The 4 wheel drive is amazing and it handles snow like a champ. I'm always able to get out and about when others are stuck at home. I gave it a four because there's always room for improvement, but overall, GM did an excellent job with this car.

After searching for about a year at different vehicles, I finally decided on the Blazer. It fits everything I wanted into one vehicle. The ride is superb, the leather seats are the most comfortable out of any SUV, and all controls are easy to reach and work! It's definitely the best car I have owned by far.
