Common Chevrolet Blazer problems
The Chevrolet Blazer has faced a number of common problems over the years, particularly in relation to its engine and fuel system. According to CarParts.com, the most commonly reported issue is a faulty fuel gauge, which tends to show up in the 2000 Blazer. This can lead to issues with fuel consumption and accuracy, causing inconvenience and potential safety risks for drivers.
Another common problem with the Chevrolet Blazer is fuel pump failure, which can affect the engine's ability to run smoothly. This issue has been reported in various model years, including 2005 and 1990-2005.
The distributor is another component that has caused issues for Chevrolet Blazer owners. In particular, internal defects within the 2001 Chevy Blazer distributor can affect the way the engine operates, causing it to run roughly or stall. Drivers may be forced to overhaul the distributor or replace the faulty ignition part as soon as possible to resolve this issue.
In addition to these engine and fuel system issues, the Chevrolet Blazer has also faced problems with its electrical system. For example, a "Shift to Park" error message has been reported in the 2019 redesign, which is usually accompanied by other problems like an activated horn, defective door locks, and a malfunctioning electrical system.
The 2004 Chevrolet Blazer has been identified as the model year that received the most overall complaints, while the 1994 Blazer was considered the worst model year for various problems.
In summary, the Chevrolet Blazer has faced a number of common problems over the years, particularly in relation to its engine and fuel system. These issues can cause inconvenience and potential safety risks for drivers, and may require costly repairs or replacements. It is important for Chevrolet Blazer owners to be aware of these common problems and to take steps to maintain their vehicles properly to help prevent them.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-17
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-17
- VIN: 3GNKBKRSXMS
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The Radiator has a crack in the upper left front of the core causing the fluid to leak and lose pressure causing the engine to overheat. This is a manufacture defect that has not been addressed as of 10/16/2024. The leak was discovered by a certified GM mechanic at a dealership when doing routine maintenance and inspection. The vehicle has never had any indication or advisory light that would alert the operator. As the engine overheats it can cause many of the other components of the vehicle to disable, including but not limited to the ADAS systems as well as power steering and/or collision safety components. This is a manufactures defect with the aluminum radiator that needs to be addressed immediately. Given the information from multiple GM dealerships the amount of newer low mileage Blazers that have been confronted with this problem is unprecedented. This not only creates a danger for the passengers of the vehicle but also every other vehicle on the road.

- VIN: 3GNKBBRA9KS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: My 2019 Blazer won't shut off the electrical system because of a "shift to park" error. This causes a drain to the battery and could leave me stranded. The problem is simple electrical switch that is not making the connection to tell the car to shut off. This is a well documented problem with chevy vehicles in the late 2010s and includes multiple models. I have not had the problem verified by a Chevrolet dealer. I've reviewed multipe youtube videos that has had 10s of thousands of views which demonstrates the problem is very wide spread. Why is this not being recalled?

- VIN: 3GNKBERS1KS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: When placing the vehicle in the park position and attempting to shut the vehicle off with the push button my DIC flashes a message stating to 'shift vehicle into park'. I have to move the shifter from park to another gear several times in order to keep this from appearing and allowing me to turn my vehicle off. I can take up to 5-6 times before I can get the vehicle to allow me to turn it off. I'm not really sure if it is or isn't in park even when I do this at that point. I have had this happen on multiple occasions over multiple months.
Chevrolet Blazer 2020
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-24
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-25
- VIN: 3GNKBCR47LS
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: 2020 Chevy Blazer - Shift to Park while Gear is already in Park: While putting the gear in park, the warning chime to shift it into park is initiated. It has happened 3 to 4 times in the past three days. I took the vehicle to the Local Chevy Dealership. The Service Team/Dept. diagnosed that the Transmission Shifter Unit Assembly must be replaced. The 2019 Chevy Blazer had these issues which prompted a TSB/Recall however it wasn't extended to the 2020-year models and Chevy Dealership refused to include it as a warranted repair which just passed 44,000 miles. This is a safety issue, and it should be replaced without additional cost to customer as this issue was already identified as a safety concern in 2019, however Chevy does not want to identify the issue as a covered repair per the manufactures warranty.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my Chevy Blazer. I've driven it all the way from New York to Florida, a total of 1251 miles, and it performed outstandingly! Even with 247000 miles on it, my truck had no problems at all. I used only 70 gallons of gas, which is amazing. I did have some upgrades done, including a rebuilt 350 engine and a 3:73 Posi rear with Eaton Racing parts. On the highway, it gets about 17 miles per gallon, while in the city it only gets about 11. Overall, I'm really happy with my Chevy Blazer and I highly recommend it!

Your truck is beautiful and great to drive. With the heavy duty tow package, you won't have any front end problems and the 4x4 works amazingly. It's a very capable truck that's also comfortable to drive and has lots of power. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a capable SUV.

Vehicle year: 2023
I recently purchased a 2023 Blazer Premier, AWD, V6, Sterling Grey Metallic, with driver’s confidence 2 and convenience packages. Although I've only driven it for less than 1000 miles, I can say that the technology is superb. I'm still learning about its capabilities, but the 360 degree camera has been a great tool in parking lots or tight garages. The rear and side view assist using the rear view mirror as the “screen” has been a life saver on crowded interstates. Handheld connectivity is excellent based on limited use. During a recent Midwest snowstorm, I had the opportunity to engage 4wd, and the actuation and disabling was very smooth. The interior is a step up from my 2013 Equinox, but there are still too many hard plastic surfaces. The rear seat warmer is a nice feature, as are the automatic front seat and steering wheel warmers. The 20” standard issue wheels are a marked improvement over the 2019-2022 version, in my opinion. I like the independent 60/40 rear seat fore and aft mobility, and GM did a good job designing the rear seats to fold down to form a flat surface for cargo stowage. The sound system is very nice, and my wife's favorite part of the vehicle so far. Although I have limited interstate mileage so far, and it's been cold, it looks like it is going to average at least 25 mpg at 75mph in warmer weather. The V6 LGX series engine and 9 speed is an excellent matchup, with extremely smooth shifting. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase. While I do think the price is high, the combination of recent inflation coupled with supply chain issues really crippled the ability to negotiate. I'm glad I didn't have to pay any “market adjustment” upcharges, as that would have been a deal breaker. I'll update this as time and mileage passes. Update: 3/6/2023. I just finished a long trip, with a mix of interstate and around town driving. I idled during food breaks since we ate (carefully) in the vehicle since we had our dog with us.I usually drive at a speed of 75-80 mph on interstates, unless the speed limit allows for higher speeds. I won't disclose the top speed I reached, but it was well above the maximum speed limit in the US. During the trip, I had to do a fair amount of low-speed stop-and-go driving. I reset the trip computer when we left home and checked it again when we got back three weeks later. The results were as follows: Miles driven: 3215.1, Average mileage: 23.1 mpg, Average speed: 49.1 mph. The vehicle's performance was excellent overall, and it was quiet and comfortable. The technology was very helpful, especially the wide-angle rear-view camera on busy interstates through big cities. I am very pleased with the purchase and glad we chose the V6. I will update more as time passes. As of 9/7/23, with 7100 miles on the Blazer, it is still meeting and exceeding all expectations. I am very happy with the technology, especially the safety features. We have only taken short (<150 mi) interstate trips so far, but we are hoping for more this fall. We typically average 25-26 mpg at 75 mph in summertime temperatures.

Power is excellent with the 3.6 V6. The transmission shifts perfectly. Although it's not a necessity, I would have liked to see a built-in phone holder in the console. The interior has a sporty feel and provides ample headroom for taller individuals. Overall, it's a solid car.

The car has been incredibly reliable, starting immediately. Although I had to have the 4-wheel drive worked on because I did not use it for over a year, I now make sure to put it into 4-wheel drive at least twice a month and it has been working well. Even after over 88,000 miles, it still feels tight and uses no oil. I use Amsoil 10-30 and change the oil yearly, and it still looks almost new after 15,000 miles.

At 9400 miles, the gas pedal of my 2019 Chevy Blazer malfunctioned, causing the reduced engine light to come on and the car to stall. Although the Chevy dealer repaired it, the acceleration sensor failed again just 25 days later at 10040 miles, resulting in the car going into reduced engine power and stalling. Additionally, the infotainment system experiences intermittent blackouts and malfunctions. As a customer, I am disappointed to have experienced these issues with my new vehicle.

Vehicle year: 2000
I regret my purchase of a 2000 model due to multiple issues with the drive-train and subsequent lemon-law claim. The replacement vehicle also experienced similar issues, albeit to a lesser extent. Unfortunately, with 50k miles and out of warranty, I am now facing issues with the front ball joints, power steering pump, and tie rods. It is disappointing to learn that front end problems are a common occurrence with S-10 models, as I am the third person I know who has experienced these issues. However, I remain confident in my ability to address these problems and find a suitable solution.

Hi there! I bought this car because it was both cheap and clean. It had 83,000 miles on it when we got it, and now it has 118,000. It's had a few problems, but nothing unexpected for a car with that mileage. We've had to replace the key switch, air conditioning compressor, rear wiper motor, and upper/lower ball joints. Overall, it's been a reliable car for us!

After a year or two of owning my pre-owned Blazer, it started making an awful squeaking noise that we couldn't fix. We took it to a mechanic who said that this is a common issue with Blazers. We asked around and found out that many other Blazer owners have experienced the same problem. Now, whenever I hear a squeaky car driving down the street, I can't help but think it's another Blazer! Unfortunately, there were also other annoying issues with the Blazer, such as buttons breaking, plastic pieces snapping off, sun visor breaking, and seats ripping and tearing. It required a lot of maintenance, even though I didn't use it very hard (at the time, I was in my 20s and only used it to get to and from work, while we used my boyfriend's car for everything else).
Jermain Denesik 2025-07-21
Vehicle year: 1999
We had a lot of issues with our previous vehicle, including oil leaks, problems with fuel and brake lines, frequent brake and rotor replacements, a malfunctioning rear door hatch, and a faulty windshield wiper fluid nozzle. We also had problems with the ball joints, U joints, gas gauge, emergency brake, alternator, starter, and vanity light. The battery had to be replaced twice due to the slowly draining vanity light. We ended up getting rid of the vehicle before it completely died. Unfortunately, we spent a lot of money just to keep it running and won't be purchasing another one.
