Common Chevrolet Blazer problems
The Chevrolet Blazer has faced a number of common problems over the years, particularly in relation to its engine and fuel system. According to CarParts.com, the most commonly reported issue is a faulty fuel gauge, which tends to show up in the 2000 Blazer. This can lead to issues with fuel consumption and accuracy, causing inconvenience and potential safety risks for drivers.
Another common problem with the Chevrolet Blazer is fuel pump failure, which can affect the engine's ability to run smoothly. This issue has been reported in various model years, including 2005 and 1990-2005.
The distributor is another component that has caused issues for Chevrolet Blazer owners. In particular, internal defects within the 2001 Chevy Blazer distributor can affect the way the engine operates, causing it to run roughly or stall. Drivers may be forced to overhaul the distributor or replace the faulty ignition part as soon as possible to resolve this issue.
In addition to these engine and fuel system issues, the Chevrolet Blazer has also faced problems with its electrical system. For example, a "Shift to Park" error message has been reported in the 2019 redesign, which is usually accompanied by other problems like an activated horn, defective door locks, and a malfunctioning electrical system.
The 2004 Chevrolet Blazer has been identified as the model year that received the most overall complaints, while the 1994 Blazer was considered the worst model year for various problems.
In summary, the Chevrolet Blazer has faced a number of common problems over the years, particularly in relation to its engine and fuel system. Chevrolet Blazer 2021
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-17
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-17
- VIN: 3GNKBKRSXMS
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The Radiator has a crack in the upper left front of the core causing the fluid to leak and lose pressure causing the engine to overheat. This is a manufacture defect that has not been addressed as of 10/16/2024. The leak was discovered by a certified GM mechanic at a dealership when doing routine maintenance and inspection. The vehicle has never had any indication or advisory light that would alert the operator. As the engine overheats it can cause many of the other components of the vehicle to disable, including but not limited to the ADAS systems as well as power steering and/or collision safety components. This is a manufactures defect with the aluminum radiator that needs to be addressed immediately. Given the information from multiple GM dealerships the amount of newer low mileage Blazers that have been confronted with this problem is unprecedented. This not only creates a danger for the passengers of the vehicle but also every other vehicle on the road.

Chevrolet Blazer 2019
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-21
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-26
- VIN: 3GNKBBRA9KS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: My 2019 Blazer won't shut off the electrical system because of a "shift to park" error. This causes a drain to the battery and could leave me stranded. The problem is simple electrical switch that is not making the connection to tell the car to shut off. This is a well documented problem with chevy vehicles in the late 2010s and includes multiple models. I have not had the problem verified by a Chevrolet dealer. I've reviewed multipe youtube videos that has had 10s of thousands of views which demonstrates the problem is very wide spread. Why is this not being recalled?
Chevrolet Blazer 2019
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-24
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-26
- VIN: 3GNKBERS1KS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: When placing the vehicle in the park position and attempting to shut the vehicle off with the push button my DIC flashes a message stating to 'shift vehicle into park'. I have to move the shifter from park to another gear several times in order to keep this from appearing and allowing me to turn my vehicle off. I can take up to 5-6 times before I can get the vehicle to allow me to turn it off. I'm not really sure if it is or isn't in park even when I do this at that point. I have had this happen on multiple occasions over multiple months.
Chevrolet Blazer 2020
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-24
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-25
- VIN: 3GNKBCR47LS
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: 2020 Chevy Blazer - Shift to Park while Gear is already in Park: While putting the gear in park, the warning chime to shift it into park is initiated. It has happened 3 to 4 times in the past three days. I took the vehicle to the Local Chevy Dealership. The Service Team/Dept. diagnosed that the Transmission Shifter Unit Assembly must be replaced. The 2019 Chevy Blazer had these issues which prompted a TSB/Recall however it wasn't extended to the 2020-year models and Chevy Dealership refused to include it as a warranted repair which just passed 44,000 miles. This is a safety issue, and it should be replaced without additional cost to customer as this issue was already identified as a safety concern in 2019, however Chevy does not want to identify the issue as a covered repair per the manufactures warranty.

This vehicle is fantastic in the snow and has been incredibly reliable. It has required very little maintenance and has not rusted despite all the salty roads.

It sounds like you had a great experience with your car! You purchased it at 55,000 miles and have put on an impressive 101,000 miles since then. It's amazing that you've had it for six years and recently handed it down. The car was fantastic in the snow thanks to its 4-wheel drive, and it sat up high, giving you a great view of the road. It's understandable that it was hard to give it away since you loved it so much. After all, you had it for a while and it had a great drivetrain.

I bought my Blazer back in March 2007 when it already had 160k miles on it. I must say, I still absolutely adore this truck! It has proven to be incredibly reliable, so much so that I even let my pregnant wife drive it all by herself on a 2,400 mile journey without any worries. The gas mileage is also quite impressive, averaging around 17 on the highway and 12 in town, which is not bad at all for a truck of its age. Now, with 190k miles on it, I still find every excuse I can to take it out for a spin. It still runs like a dream and can even lay down some rubber! If you're thinking of buying one, I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed!

This car drives great, and I'm really impressed with all the safety equipment and cameras. It's clear that the manufacturer really cares about the safety of their customers.

Vehicle year: 1997
Your truck sounds amazing! It's great that it's 4wd so you can go off-road and that it pulls your trailer with no problem. It's also impressive that it has held up so well, especially with all the freeway driving you do. The only issue you mentioned was a small dent in the gas tank, which was an easy fix. It's clear that you have a strong attachment to your truck, but it's also understandable that you might want to upgrade to a newer vehicle like many people do. Thank you for sharing your story!

Vehicle year: 1995
I purchased my Blazer for $1800 and have put 10,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I have had to spend $850 on a transmission rebuild. The fuel pump was replaced before I acquired the vehicle, but the 4wd only works intermittently. Sometimes shaking the wires on the transfer case helps. The EGR is not functioning properly, but I discovered that a piece of screen wire from the dealer for $16-20 can help reduce carbon build-up. In the city, the gas mileage is between 10-12 miles per gallon, but on the highway, it gets a respectable 17-18 mpg. The brakes are not in good condition and tend to pulsate and make a lot of noise on slick surfaces. Unfortunately, the ABS system is not very effective. Additionally, I had to purchase a $150 exhaust because the muffler had rusted apart. Currently, the trim is starting to come off. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving my Blazer.

Vehicle year: 2002
I bought this car as my second and have had only minor issues with it. Although there was some rust on the rear rotor causing a weird noise and a washer on the driver's door causing water to leak, overall it has been a reliable car. While the plastics inside the car are not the most durable and can easily come apart or blemish, the ride is excellent and it handles better than one would expect from a truck. It is a monster through the snow and has enough clearance for any terrain. I highly recommend this car for anyone who frequently deals with off-road use. It is an amazing off-road and bad weather car, but due to its small gear ratio, it may not be the best choice for highway driving.

Vehicle year: 1998
This car is amazing! I received it from my father 5 years ago and it has been a reliable companion ever since. Despite having 170,000 miles on it, I have only experienced minor issues, which were easily fixed. While it is known to have some oil leakage, it was not too costly to repair. About 4 years ago, I had a bit of a mishap and rolled my Blazer, causing some cosmetic damage and a few minor engine problems. However, it has been running perfectly ever since. Overall, it has been a fantastic first car!

Hi there! I noticed that you recently purchased a car from the original owner. I hope you're enjoying it so far! I just wanted to share my experience with a similar model. I had some issues with the A/C, ABS, radiator, and brakes within the first 6 months of owning it, which cost me around $3500 to fix. I've heard that this was the first year for this design and there were some problems. Just wanted to give you a heads up! Have a great day!

The Blazer has a lot of interior room and is easy to drive (when it is not being worked on). The 4WD works great. However, the engine uses environmentally friendly (orange colored) coolant, which historically causes problems with the gaskets. I ended up dropping a new engine in it at 90,000 miles and now the computer is history at 110,000 miles. Good luck!
