STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-21
  • VIN: 3GNKBLRS2MS
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Steering assist reduced message comes on and temperature guage goes down to cold not working and after you shut car off fan runs full force for 10 minutes. Shows no check engine light or no codes.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-17
  • VIN: 3GNKBKRSXMS
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: The Radiator has a crack in the upper left front of the core causing the fluid to leak and lose pressure causing the engine to overheat. This is a manufacture defect that has not been addressed as of 10/16/2024. The leak was discovered by a certified GM mechanic at a dealership when doing routine maintenance and inspection. The vehicle has never had any indication or advisory light that would alert the operator. As the engine overheats it can cause many of the other components of the vehicle to disable, including but not limited to the ADAS systems as well as power steering and/or collision safety components. This is a manufactures defect with the aluminum radiator that needs to be addressed immediately. Given the information from multiple GM dealerships the amount of newer low mileage Blazers that have been confronted with this problem is unprecedented. This not only creates a danger for the passengers of the vehicle but also every other vehicle on the road.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-24
  • VIN: 3GNKBHRS1MS
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Power Liftgate randomly opens when driving or parked. Even when the power switch is turned to off the liftgate will unlock randomly either parked or driving. I have contacted the dealer and GM no recall currently exists. Dealer recommended replacing the latch mechanism which I have ordered to replace myself.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-15
  • VIN: 3GNKBKRS4MS
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Leaking coolant from bad radiator “just out of warranty”. Roughly $2000 repair estimate

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-27
  • VIN: 3GNKBERS4MS
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Instrument cluster completely blacked out, providing no information on vehicle speed or status of operation. Operation of a vehicle without instrumentation would seem to be a safety risk. Chevy dealer diagnosed problem as IPC error U0155, installed updated software to correct the problem. The repair was not covered by the extended warranty I purchased through General Motors when I bought the car. I think a defect such as this should be the manufacturers responsibility, I believe GM has a service bulletin out for this problem covering several models of their vehicles. This should be upgraded to a recall.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-01-01
  • VIN: 3GNKBHR40MS

  • Summary: The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that oil was leaking from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the cam shaft carrier needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that there was a separation in the transmission, oil cooler line, valve, and hoses that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and submitted a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-25
  • VIN: 3GNKBHRS0MS
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: I have a 2021 Chevy Blazer which has had to have two radiators replaced with less than 50,000 miles on the vehicle. The first time was in March of 2023. I took my vehicle in for an oil change and the technician told me the radiator was cracked and all of the coolant was drained from the vehicle. It must have just run out because I regularly check my fluids and the vehicle was not overheating prior to the appointment. The vehicle had about 32k miles on it, so the radiator was covered under warranty. Now in April of 2024 with 49k miles, I take my vehicle in for another oil change and the radiator is cracked, again, with coolant leaking. The technician told me two things that are concerning about this. 1.) This is a known issue on the Blazers that they’ve done multiple repairs on. 2.) There is a piece of plastic under the radiator that catches the coolant when it leaks, making it hard to notice an issue because the coolant doesn’t pool on the ground underneath. My service advisor went to bat for me against GM, who partially paid for the second radiator. This brought my installation cost to $235, even though it was no longer under warranty. Radiators cracking is a serious safety issue because if the driver doesn’t notice the engine overheating, it could cause a vehicle fire putting the occupants and surrounding environment in danger. There are no warning lights on the vehicle to tell you if there is low coolant, other than noticing the temperature gauge when it is too late. I don’t know if GM didn’t install rubber bushings to absorb the impact of bumps on the road, or if it needs some rubber washers on the bolts, but something is missing. Online forums will confirm that this is an ongoing issue for owners of the Chevy Blazer

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-11
  • VIN: 3GNKBERS7MS
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I was driving on the highway when my car started operating like it was in neutral. RPMs was high but the car started to stall and slow down and because of it I had to immediately pull over. The car would not go into gear. I attempted to put it in drive ajd press the acceleration pedal but it just revved. Same with putting it in reverse. It's a safety concern because my car could not maintain highway speed and abruptly went stagnant. I had the vehicle towed to dealer and they replaced the entire transmission system. The car always had a shudder feel to it when accelerating from 0 onwards to 40 mph.The day this occurred there was no blatant warning signs.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-29
  • VIN: 3GNKBBRA1MS
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: The failing component is the ESC/power steering. It is available for inspection. It is currently at Bayway Chevrolet in Pearland, Texas. My safety and the safety of others is at risk when the power steering fails not allowing me to turn out of the way from road hazards or even make legal turns. This could result in an auto accident causing bodily injury or death to me or other drivers. Yes, a service shop in Alvin was able to see/reproduce the errors. No, however the vehicle is currently in the shop being looked at by service techs. There were no warning lights, messages, or other indications prior to [XXX] around 2pm EST, when this happened. The vehicle was driven home from work that evening. The vehicle was not driven all day [XXX]. Today, [XXX], I drove the vehicle to the service shop in Alvin, Texas to replace the battery. Around 10:45am EST, the errors/messages came on. I drove back to the battery shop in Alvin and they ran the codes. This is where they were able to feel the steering tighten up. I drove the vehicle to Bayway Chevrolet for repairs. Once I receive an estimate or repair invoice, I would be happy to send that over. • Summary: I have made numerous complaints to Jeff Schmitt Chevy dealership Dayton, Ohio regarding parking brake being engaged upon starting vehicle even though vehicle is on flat surface. Twice now, last occurring [XXX], while gradually increasing speed to make a left hand turn the vehicle suddenly self-brakes, during acceleration, making a harsh screeching sound. I remove my foot completely from the accelerator before I accelerate again. The initial incident was reported to chevy dealership. No findings have been noted per dealership. No accidents have occurred. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-07-05
  • VIN: 3GNKBCRS9MS
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
  • Summary: Receiving 3 different errors on dash display. 1) Action Required- No Remote Detected 2) Action Required- No Remote Detected Press Brake to Restart 3) No Remote Key Wa Detected Place Key In Transmitter Pocket Then Start Your Vehicle. All of these errors are intermittent and have appeared with using 2 different Remotes. Batteries have been replaced also. This in itself is not so much a safety hazard (annoying), but what is intermittently happening is the car shuts down while in drive and in reverse. So far it has not shut down on the freeway but has shut down while on City streets. We have taken it to 2 different GM Dealers a total of 7 times in the last 3 months(currently at the dealer now). Each time the dealer is saying they cannot duplicate the errors. We get it back and within 1 (usually the same day)day it is right back with the errors. Clearly these errors are a nuisance and dangerous if the vehicle shuts down. I have additional service documents and photos and videos but due to the maximum I can provide they are not uploaded.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-17
  • VIN: 3GNKBCRS4MS
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: The breaks make a squealing noise all the time which is concerning. I was told by Beaver Chevrolet that this is normal as the breaks were changed in newer car models. They have made a squealing noise ever since I bought the car brand new. I took the car into Beaver Chevrolet approximately 4 months ago and was told that they were unable to replace the breaks because they "weren't squealing bad enough". They did spray my breaks down, however they told me that once I hit 36,000 miles if the issue was still occuring (which it will be) that I would have to pay to have the breaks sprayed. The issue persisted and the spray they used only lasted a few days. Typically breaks should not squeal unless they have gone bad, which isn't the case here. I find this issue to be a safety hazard as how are customers supposed to know when their breaks actually do go bad if they squeal all the time. The issue was reproduced, but it is unclear what their standard is for determining the actual noise to breaking ratio.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-28
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 3GNKBERS6MS
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: On Friday, April 28, 2023, at about 11:30 am, my car, died as I was driving it out of the grocery store parking lot; luckily, it didn’t happen as I was crossing the busy highway. I attempted several times to restart it, with no luck. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of this problem. The vehicle was in the middle of an aisle, blocking the aisle and many cars in parking spots, so I managed to get it into neutral and it backed around into parking spaces where the left rear quarter stopped against the front tire of a Ford F-350. I was actually thankful for the truck as I had no steering or brakes, and I was on a slight hill heading towards the road. I had it towed to the dealership, which was unable to tell me what the problem was before I obtained a ride home at 3:30 pm and that they would call me when they had it figured out. When I returned home, my husband had searched the internet for recalls for the car and was unable to locate any. I called the service department the next day, Saturday April 29, and was told that the problem was the fuel pump control module, which was under warranty, and it could be 3 months before it was fixed as they didn’t have one, and there was a large backorder. The fuel pump module was recalled on other GM vehicles GM #N212382040 and NHTSA campaign #21V739000, and there was another recall by GM on February 6, 2023 Recall #N222372310 that did NOT include the Chevy Blazer.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-09-14
  • VIN: 3gnkbhrs8ms
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: I went out to start my car and the light said that it was not reading the key fob because of low battery. I went and got the other key fob which had never been used and had the same result. The car was towed by Chevrolet to the dealer and it has been there for over 3 weeks. They found that it wasn't a faulty key fob but it was the receiver that gets the signal and allows the door locks to open and the engine to start. I tried moving the shift lever, stepping on the brakes, trying the remote start on the key fob and nothing would start the car nor would it lock/unlock the doors. It just kept giving me the notice that it couldn't read the key fob. I called ONSTAR and tried the actions they told me but that did not work either and they said to contact my selling dealer. ONSTAR contacted the Chevy warranty number for a tow truck but at 9PM it was too late for them to make a service call. What if I was out in a parking lot or in a remote area and experienced the same problem with no assistance. I have been trying to find out what the dealer is doing to repair my vehicle but I have to call the GM complaint line in order for them to try and contact the dealer about my car. They finally gave me a rental vehicle since the vehicle is less than 1 year old and only has about 6,000 miles on it.

Negative 2021 Chevrolet Blazer car reviews

  1. Zander Mertz 2024-10-23

I love my car, however at 3,000 miles check engine light came on. I waited for 1 month for a chip to repair it. At 6,000 miles the car stopped at my driveway and had to be hauled to the dealership, that was 4/4/2023. My car is still at the dealership waiting on parts to repair it. I filed a complaint with GMC, they in turn agreed to pay for a rental car. I am into the 4th month and have not been reimbursed on cent for the rental. I will never buy another GMC product.

  2. Gust Cruickshank 2024-10-09

Great looks, great V6 engine, and the transmission shifts and downshifts perfectly. The seats are also great. However, the infotainment system can be a bit frustrating. Every time you start the car, the radio comes on, so you have to press the mute button to turn it off. When out of town, this can be even more annoying as you're greeted by static. Overall, it was a fabulous car, but I decided to trade it in.

  3. Geovany Pacocha 2024-09-27

I purchased a 2021 Chevy Blazer in February, but unfortunately, the doors are not unlocking. Despite taking it back to the dealer, the issue remains unresolved even after 12 days. Currently, only the driver's door is able to unlock.

Overall, the blazer is a great SUV with powerful performance and good handling. However, there seems to be a rattling noise coming from the doors. I took it to a dealer, but unfortunately, they were unable to resolve the issue. I found out that there is a Chevy service bulletin regarding this problem, but it may not fix the issue. The service personnel followed the bulletin fix, but it made the noise worse. It's disappointing to have this issue on a new $44k SUV.

The car has a lot of power and features, especially the RS version, and the styling both inside and out is nice. However, there are some issues that need to be addressed. For instance, the location of the parking button needs to be moved as it is easy to hit when entering or exiting the car. Additionally, the seats could use a redesign as they are not particularly supportive or comfortable. The implementation of Android Auto is also poor, as it occasionally loses connection (something I never experienced with my Sorentos). Furthermore, the lane keep assist is too aggressive, making it difficult to move over slightly to give a person walking their dog more room. I ended up turning this feature off. Looking back, I would have considered other vehicles more seriously.

All expectations were met, except for a rubbing noise when braking. We are currently waiting for a brake pad to arrive.

I have the 2021 Blazer RS and it's a fantastic car! I've been driving it for a year now and it's an absolute pleasure to ride in. It comfortably fits 5 people and has plenty of speed to take on any other vehicles. The interior is super nice too - overall, it's just a great car. I'm planning on enjoying it for a long time!

One of the main reasons we decided to lease this car was because of its spacious front row. Although our Equinox had plenty of cargo space and better fuel economy (33mpg highway on trips), it was a bit tight in the front row. The Blazer, on the other hand, gets up to 29 mpg and has excellent acceleration when needed, biased primarily toward low end acceleration. While I find the suspension a bit too stiff and almost jarring compared to my 95 Montecarlo LTZ, it's still a good car for short trips and a great grocery getter. Living in Michigan, we don't encounter mountainous driving or high altitudes, but if we did, I'd expect the turbo to be a plus. We just have 2-wheel drive, but if it's too snowy and the roads are bad, it's not a big deal since we're both retired and don't really have to go anywhere. Overall, it's a decent car that suits our needs.

I had the 2021 Blazer for a month while my Audi Q5 was in the shop. The interior was decent with some soft touch materials spread around the cabin, although there were some plastics that I wasn't used to. One thing to note is that the climate vents are in a rather unusual place in correspondence with the Camaro-ish design, which can make it difficult to cool the top half of your body from the shoulders up, especially during the summer months, even with the AC on max. The Blazer I had was equipped with the rather thirsty 3.6 V6 with 308 Hp, which was plenty powerful, albeit a bit rough and relatively loud with a nice exhaust note. The shifts were smooth when in regular drive, but when put in sport mode, the transmission can get confused and abruptly downshift because of its many gears, leading to the front wheels screaming for traction. One downside of the Blazer would be the transmission, which didn't shift the easiest, especially when trying to row through all 9 gears. The suspension was alright, although there wasn't much ground clearance, so off-roading was off the table for me in fear of scratching the underside. Overall, the Chevy Blazer is a great value for your money, especially considering its practicality with the moderately large cargo area, nice sound system with available Apple CarPlay, and spacious cabin.

The new Blazer is a real head-turner. Its midnight blue metallic colour and black on black look, along with the 21 inch wheels, make it the best looking vehicle in any parking lot. Passersby often stop to ask my husband about the car, commenting on its good looks. Despite my opinion that the control setup on the console is awkward and hard to read, I must say that the Blazer has plenty of power and is a joy to drive.
