Common 1985 Chevrolet Blazer problems
The Chevrolet Blazer, produced from 1969 to 2005, is known for several common problems that have been reported by owners. These issues affect various components, including the engine, fuel system, and transmission.
- Defective Distributor: Some Blazer models, particularly those produced between 1990 and 2005, have experienced issues with the distributor. Internal defects within the distributor can affect the engine's operation, causing it to run rough or stall. This can lead to engine damage if not addressed promptly. Owners of affected vehicles have had to overhaul the distributor or replace the faulty ignition part.
- Inaccurate Fuel Gauge: The fuel gauge in the Chevrolet Blazer, especially in the 2000 model, is prone to inaccuracy. This can lead to problems with fuel management and potentially stranding the driver. The most commonly reported problem is a faulty fuel gauge, which tends to show up in the 2000 Blazer. This issue is often accompanied by other problems like an activated horn, defective door locks, and a malfunctioning electrical system.
- Transmission Failure: Transmission failure is another common problem in the Chevrolet Blazer. This issue can manifest as difficulty shifting gears, slipping, or a complete loss of drive. Transmission problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including wear and tear, low fluid levels, or internal damage. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent transmission failure.
- Electrical Issues: Electrical problems are common in the Chevrolet Blazer, particularly in the 2019 redesign. Issues such as a "Shift to Park" error message, activated horn, defective door locks, and a malfunctioning electrical system can be caused by internal defects or wear and tear. These problems can affect the overall drivability and safety of the vehicle.
In conclusion, the Chevrolet Blazer has several common problems that can affect its reliability and performance. Regular maintenance, inspections, and timely repairs can help prevent these issues and ensure a safe and enjoyable driving experience.
