Common 1995 Chevrolet Blazer problems

The 1995 Chevrolet Blazer is known to have several common problems, primarily related to fuel system issues, electrical problems, and structural integrity.

Fuel System Issues:

  • Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR): The fuel pressure regulator is responsible for maintaining the correct fuel pressure. If it fails, the fuel pressure may drop, causing starting problems. Replacing the entire spider unit is necessary, as GM does not offer the FPR as a replacement part.
  • Fuel Gauge Erratic or Not Reading Correctly: Several owners have reported issues with the fuel gauge, either showing erratic readings or not reading correctly. This can lead to fuel-related problems, as the driver may not be aware of the actual fuel level in the tank.

Electrical Problems:

  • Passlock Security System: The Passlock security system is designed to prevent theft by disabling the engine if it detects an unauthorized key. However, this system has been known to cause issues for legitimate owners, sometimes preventing the vehicle from starting. A replacement of the Passlock system or reprogramming of the key may be necessary to resolve this issue.
  • Electrical Shorts: Electrical shorts, particularly in the fuel pump, have been reported by some owners. These shorts can cause intermittent electrical issues, including starting problems or erratic fuel gauge readings.

Structural Integrity:

  • Rear Roof Perforation: Some owners have reported perforation in the rear roof of their 1995 Blazers, which can lead to water leaks and potential structural damage. Installing a new rear roof section may be necessary to address this issue.
  • Rust Formation: Rust can form in the rear portion of the roof, which can weaken the structure and lead to leaks. Regular inspections and maintenance can help prevent or address this issue.

Other Common Problems:

  • Loose Ball Joints: Loose ball joints can cause issues with handling and steering, potentially leading to more severe problems if not addressed. Regular inspections and maintenance can help prevent or address this issue.
  • Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Assembly Leaks: Leaks in the oil cooler hose or pipe assembly can lead to engine damage if not addressed promptly. Regular inspections and maintenance can help prevent or address this issue.
  • Leaking Power Steering Pumps: Leaking power steering pumps can cause issues with steering and handling. Regular inspections and maintenance can help prevent or address this issue.

In summary, the 1995 Chevrolet Blazer has several common problems, primarily related to fuel system issues, electrical problems, and structural integrity. Regular inspections and maintenance can help prevent or address many of these issues, ensuring the vehicle remains reliable and safe for its owners.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-01-13
  • VIN: 1GNDT13W5S2
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: ABS FAILURE. ALL THREE ABS ISOLATION VALVES CLOSED EITHER AT START OF BREAKING OR PRIOR TO BRAKING CYCLE, RESULTING IN NO POSSIBLE DEPRESSION OF THE BRAKE PETAL AND ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKING WHAT SO EVER, LITERALLY NONE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES AT WHATEVER SPEED THE VEHICLE WAS AT BEFORE INITIATION OF BRAKING. THIS NO BRAKE CONDITION HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY AS SPEEDS FROM 15MPH TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS. UPON RELEASING BREAK PRESSURE (TAKING ONE'S FOOT OF THE PETAL) AND REAPPLYING THE BREAKS THE LEFT FRONT ABS ISOLATION VALVE WOULD DE-ENERGIZE AND GIVE THE DRIVER THE LEFT FRONT BREAK ONLY. THIS FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT OVER THE LAST YEAR AND NOT WITNESSED BY ME UNTIL 1/13/2018. THE ABS FUSE WAS REMOVED AND THE BRAKES REMAIN WITHOUT ABS FUNCTION. THIS IS A MAJOR FAILURE THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A DEADLY ACCIDENT AND MOST PROBABLY HAS. BUT, SINCE IT IS INTERMITTENT AND DEAD PEOPLE CAN'T TESTIFY YOU PROBABLY DO NOT HAVE MUCH OF A DATA BASE. ALSO, AS AN ENGINEER MYSELF, THIS IS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE THAT SHOULD PRECIPITATE THE COMPLETE DEACTIVATION OF AUTOMATED FUNCTIONS OF ALL VEHICLES WORLDWIDE UNTIL SUCH TIME AS ALL AUTOMATED FUNCTIONS CAN BE OVERRIDDEN BY MANUAL INPUTS WITHOUT FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH MANUAL INPUTS.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2009-10-01
  • VIN: 1GNDT13W7S2
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
  • Summary: BACKGROUND: PURCHASED USED BLAZER APPROX 2 YEARS AGO. "ANTI-LOCK BRAKES" DASH LIGHT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON. I AM GOOD DIY AND VERY EXPERIENCED MECHANIC WITH APPROPRIATE TOOLS. I HAVE TRIED OFF AND ON SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE. I EVEN HAVE REPLACED ALL BRAKES AND MASTER CYLINDER. PROBLEM: I CAME UPON SAFECAR.GOV LAST NIGHT AND FOUND SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES ON MY TYPE OF VEHICLE, TO INCLUDE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. I CALLED THE CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER FOR RECALLS AND EXPLAINED THE ABOVE PARAGRAPH. AFTER I STATED I FOUND THE RECALLS ON SAFECAR.GOV AND WANTED TO CHECK IF MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE HAD ANY OUTSTANDING RECALLS, I WAS PROMPTLY TOLD THAT SAFECAR.GOV IS NOT AN AUTHORIZED OR APPROVED CHEVY WEBSITE. IT WAS INFERRED TO ME BY THE OPERATOR BY HER TONE (THOUGH VERY POLITE) AND LANGUAGE THAT SAFECAR.GOV IS SOME ROGUE WEBSITE THAT SHOULD BE PAID NO MIND. THIS HAD ME CONCERNED BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY SAFECAR.GOV IS A NHTSA WEBSITE AND I AM SURE THE RECALLS LISTED ARE ACCURATE. THE OPERATOR THEN LOOKED UP MY VIN AND STATED THERE WERE NO OUTSTANDING RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. THIS TRUCK ME AS ODD BECAUSE THE RECALLS ON BRAKES I FOUND DESCRIBED HOW MY VEHICLE REACTS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I AM NOT TRYING TO GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. IF THERE WERE/ARE REALLY NO RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE.THAN SO BE IT, NO PROBLEM. HOWEVER, WITH THE WAY SAFECAR.GOV WAS BRUSHED ASIDE BY THE OPERATOR, IT MAKES ME WONDER IF IN FACT THERE WERE RECALLS AND CHEVY IS JUST TRYING TO SAVE FROM REPAIRING OLDER MODEL VEHICLES THAT WERE NOT BROUGHT IN BY PREVIOUS OWNERS. THANK YOU. *TR

I've had this car since day one and it's been a great ride. We take long trips every summer and have never had any issues. We've put 108,000 miles on it and only had to replace the water pump. The brakes have been a bit of a problem for GM, but if you change them yourself it's not too bad. I went through two sets of rotors within 15,000 miles, but once I started changing them myself, I found out it would only cost me $100 a year for new pads and rotors. The interior is nice and comfortable, although there are some rattles and other noises that can get on your nerves after a while.

I bought the truck new and loved the way it felt and rode at first. However, things started to break down and I had to deal with 5-7 recalls. The rear end went out at 60,000 miles, fuel injectors at 80,000, and the catalytic converter at 85,000. The EGR valve also went out. Although I would like to get rid of it, every time I consider doing so, something else breaks down, such as the water pump or alternator, and I end up fixing it and keeping it for a while longer.

It seems like you've had a lot of issues with your vehicle in the past few years, including replacing the upper and lower ball joints twice, dealing with a sticking EGR, and experiencing overheating even after replacing several parts. You've also had to replace the catalytic converter twice, the spider assembly, and the U-joints due to rusting. Additionally, you've had to replace the brakes multiple times, the fuel filter several times, and the driver side mirror housing fell off. It's unfortunate that the power mirror control doesn't work and that the 4-wheel drive only works sometimes. You've also had to replace the fuel pump, heater core, plugs and wires multiple times, and the battery twice. If you're ever in the market for a new vehicle, it might be worth avoiding the VIN letter X.

The Blazer has required extensive repairs, including two motors, a transmission, an AC compressor, a catalytic converter, an O2 sensor, a water pump, ball joints, a radiator, and various electrical faults. Despite these challenges, we have been diligent in addressing each issue as it arises. While there are still some minor issues with the trim, the vehicle is now in much better condition overall.

  5. Donald Johnston 2024-07-12

Since purchasing the vehicle in 1999, you have had nothing but problems, including replacing the transmission (twice), O2 sensors, EGR values, fuel injectors, and major repairs to the frontend. We understand that this has caused many headaches over the years. However, when running, the vehicle is great. It rides nicely, is comfortable, and has lots of room for passengers and parcels.

I've had this Blazer for a few weeks now (got it used as a cream-puff) and I've already put a thousand miles on it. It's been outperforming my expectations so far. I'll report back with a better evaluation as I spend more time in it. Thanks to everyone for the previous input!

I love my Blazer! It's not technically a 4x4, but one of the few 95's with AWD. It's my current project and I haven't had many problems with it, despite what others may say about its reliability. The few issues I've had, such as a fuel pump or pcv valve, are to be expected at 160k miles. As an off-road/muddying enthusiast, the Blazer can withstand a lot of abuse and handles great, while also maintaining a strong grip on wet roads. Even in the rain, I can take corners with ease thanks to the Blazer's body stabilizers. I'm never letting go of this truck!

Congratulations on being a first-time driver and car owner! It's great to hear that owning a Chevy Blazer has been such a positive experience for you. With its reliable performance and spacious interior, it's no wonder you feel at ease driving it. Even with 101,000 miles on the clock, your Blazer still runs like new, which is a testament to its quality. Not only is it comfortable to ride in, but it also has better gas mileage than your parents' Jeeps. Overall, I highly recommend the Chevy Blazer to anyone looking for a great car. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

Hi there! I recently bought this car from my grandfather. Although he didn't take the best care of it, it's still running well at 92,000 miles. I've had to replace some basic parts like plugs, wires, and fuel filter, but overall it's been super reliable. I think it's the same as the 98-newer ZR2 package, and the 4x4 is really dependable. The only issues I've had are with the EGR valve and fuel gauge, but those are manageable. I'm planning on getting a new EGR valve and AC compressor, and also replacing the coil springs in the front. Thanks for listening!

I bought this vehicle as a lease return back in 1997 and have had very few problems with it thanks to regular maintenance. It's amazing that the original engine and transmission are still going strong after all these years! I've driven it all over the US and have only had to make a few repairs, including replacing the oil coolant lines (3 times), starter (2 times), freeze plugs (2 times), and front brakes (multiple times). The only recurring issue I've had are the coolant lines and having to replace the rotors almost every time I change the brakes. It gets a combined 19mpg, which is pretty good. However, I have noticed that repairs are starting to get expensive. In the last 3 months, I've had to replace the shocks, ball joints, and alternator. Despite these issues, I am overall very happy with the vehicle.
