Common 1992 Chevrolet Blazer problems
The Chevrolet Blazer, produced from 1969 to 2005, is known for several common problems that affect its reliability and performance. This article will focus on the 1992 model year, which has its unique set of issues.
1. Gas Cap Issues
A simple yet critical component, the gas cap, is vital for the proper functioning of the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer. A loose or worn-out gas cap may not seal the fuel tank correctly, allowing fuel vapor to escape and contaminants like dirt and moisture to enter the fuel system. This contamination can reduce engine performance and potentially damage the engine. Additionally, a faulty gas cap can trigger the check engine light, making it difficult to diagnose the actual problem.
2. ABS Speed Sensor Failure
The 1992 Chevrolet Blazer's ABS system relies on speed sensors to monitor wheel rotation and ensure the wheels maintain traction during braking. However, the front wheel speed sensors have a history of breaking down, which can lead to incorrect ABS activation or failure to activate when needed. This issue can put drivers at a higher risk of accidents, especially during slippery conditions.
3. Engine Problems
Engine issues are the most common problem category for the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer, with the 1994 model year being the worst in this regard. While specific engine problems vary, they can include issues like stalling, difficulty starting, or poor performance. Regular maintenance and addressing issues promptly can help mitigate these problems and extend the vehicle's service life.
4. Electrical Issues
Electrical problems, such as faulty wiring or corroded connections, can affect various systems in the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer, including the starter, alternator, and battery. These issues can cause the vehicle to stall, have difficulty starting, or experience rapid battery drain. Regular inspection and maintenance of electrical components can help prevent these problems.
5. Recalls
The 1992 Chevrolet Blazer has had several recalls, including issues with airbag warning labels, multifunction switch open circuit conditions, and door striker fractures. Owners should stay informed about recalls and ensure that necessary repairs are made promptly to maintain the vehicle's safety and reliability.
In conclusion, the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer has several common problems that can affect its reliability and performance. Regular maintenance, prompt repairs, and staying informed about recalls can help ensure a safe and enjoyable driving experience.

SERVICE BRAKES,VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-02-01
- VIN: 1GNEK18K1NJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: 02/01/2022 Windshield wiper fails to function unless the circuit board is replaced. GM refused to replace the board for 1992 vehicles even though that same board was recalled for 1994 and later vehicles. Simply said it was not part part of the recall so I had to buy a replacement myself. Was GM recall #98043 expanded to cover 1992 & 1993 year vehicles as well? ABS breaking ( or lack there of) is another matter. Upon entering my Blazer's VIN number into the NHTSA recall system, it revealed six recalls had been issued for 1992 Blazers. Unfortunately my VIN was not recognized other than that it was in fact a 1992 Blazer of some sort. Chevrolet simply said 1992 Chevrolet VIN numbers were not in their records. When GM/ Chevrolet fails to supply the data for my vehicle, does it have an obligation to inspect my vehicle to determine if it in fact has a problem that should have been resolved? Or has already been resolved? Or wasn't even a recalled vehicle at all? I would appreciate a reply to these questions and/or a reference to a site, providing this kind of information. Campaign Bulletins stated Dealers should confirm vehicle eligibility through GMVIS or DCS Screen 445 before beginning campaign repairs. How is this information accessed today? Really appreciate the ongoing effort to minimize avoidable accidents! .

This Blazer has been great! I think I'll keep it until the end of time. I put a 6-inch lift on it, along with 22 custom wheels, custom headlights and tail lights. Everywhere I go, people just love it. It rides well and has lots of room inside, but gas-wise, not so good. But hey, I don't care about that!
Lindsey Pacocha 2024-08-07
It's a good truck. It drives nicely and is reliable.
Favian Green 2024-05-07
I previously owned a 1991 Caprice Classic, but it struggled in the snow. However, I found this beauty! It's reliable, comfortable, smooth, and versatile. I've made some upgrades, including a custom exhaust, a new paint job, and Denali wheels/tires. It looks sharp, rides smooth, and sits high. If I had to do it again, I would try to find a 96 or newer with the Vortec engine, or a 95 or newer diesel. Overall, I'm really happy with my 5.7 Cheyenne, even though it only has 210 HP stock.
