Common 2003 Chevrolet Blazer problems

The 2003 Chevrolet Blazer has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is a rough ride and stiff body, which can make driving the vehicle uncomfortable. This problem may be due to the vehicle's suspension system, which could be worn out or damaged.

Another common problem with the 2003 Chevrolet Blazer is a leaking windshield, which can cause the vehicle's interior to become wet and damaged. This issue can be particularly problematic in areas with heavy rain or snow, as it can affect the driver's visibility and make the vehicle difficult to operate safely.

The 2003 Chevrolet Blazer's headlights have also been reported to fail frequently, which can be a significant safety hazard for drivers. In some cases, the headlights may need to be replaced entirely, which can be a costly repair.

The vehicle's brakes have also been reported to cause problems for 2003 Chevrolet Blazer owners. Some drivers have reported that the brake pads and calipers need to be replaced frequently, which can be an expensive repair. Additionally, some drivers have reported that the brake system can overheat, which can cause the brake pads to wear out more quickly than usual.

The 2003 Chevrolet Blazer's four-wheel-drive system has also been reported to cause problems for some drivers. In some cases, the system may not engage correctly, which can make the vehicle difficult to operate in certain conditions. Additionally, some drivers have reported that the system can cause the vehicle to vibrate or shake, which can be uncomfortable and potentially dangerous.

The 2003 Chevrolet Blazer's electrical system has also been reported to cause problems for some drivers. In some cases, the vehicle's dashboard lights may flicker or fail entirely, which can make it difficult for drivers to operate the vehicle safely. Additionally, some drivers have reported that the vehicle's CD player only works when the weather is hot and dry, which can be a significant inconvenience.

Finally, some 2003 Chevrolet Blazer owners have reported that the vehicle's engine can leak oil, which can be a significant maintenance issue. In some cases, the leak may be minor and only require occasional top-ups, but in other cases, it may be more severe and require more extensive repairs.

Overall, the 2003 Chevrolet Blazer has several common problems that can affect its reliability and safety. While some of these issues may be relatively minor and easy to fix, others may be more significant and require more extensive repairs. As with any vehicle, it is essential to keep up with regular maintenance and address any issues as soon as they arise to ensure the vehicle remains safe and reliable over time.

STRUCTURE,SERVICE BRAKES,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-09-20
  • VIN: 1GNDT13X13K
  • Components: STRUCTURE,SERVICE BRAKES,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY 2015 WITH 71,000 - THE BODY WAS VERY WELL KEPT INSIDE AND OUT. WHAT I DIDN'T KNOW WAS THE EXTENSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST AND CORROSION UNDER THE VEHICLE, WHICH DID NOT SHOW INITIALLY. I HAVE ONLY HAD SAME A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND HAVE HAD TO ALREADY REPLACE FRONT ARM JOINTS BECAUSE THEY SNAPPED IN HALF AND MY TIRE WAS SITTING CROOKED AND IN DANGER OF FALLING OFF!! FUEL LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY COMPLETED RUSTED THROUGH AND GASOLINE WAS LEAKING OUT ALL OVER. THE DRIVER DOOR WAS CHECKED 2X AS IT DOES NOT SHUT CORRECTLY AND I CAN HEAR WIND GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING (NOT TO MENTION WATER POURING IN OVER THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND DOOR CONTROLS), THE BRAKES GO COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR (DESPITE BEING FIXED), THE ABS LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAY ON DESPITE BEING CHECKED - THIS TRUCK DESIGN IS TERRIBLE AND IT NOW RIDES AND SOUNDS LIKE A BUCKET OF BOLTS. I HAVE HAD MANY TRUCKS FROM GMC JIMMY, CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER, ETC. - I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE THAT HAS GONE COMPLETELY SOUR IN SO SHORT A TIME. I HAVE ALSO READ THE NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF PEOPLE IN ACCIDENTS WITH THIS YEAR VEHICLE AND THE BRAKES FAILING AND AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING - I AM SERIOUSLY SCARED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ANYMORE. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 2 AND THOUGHT I WAS PURCHASING A RELIABLE VEHICLE FOR MY FAMILY FROM A REPUTABLE COMPANY. I SEE THAT MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS - IF THEY WERE INVESTIGATED BY CHEVY - WERE DEEMED "NO PROBLEM FOUND" AND SWEPT UNDER THE RUG. WHAT DO I DO?! I HAVE ALREADY SPENT OVER $1,000 TO FIX THIS VEHICLE AND IT STILL HAS ISSUES - I SIMPLY CANNOT AFFORD TO KEEP SINKING $$ INTO A VEHICLE THAT IS GOING TO BLEED ME DRY.

I ATTEMPTED TO LET OFF AND RE APPLY THE BRAKE BUT THE ABS SYSTEM JUST STAYED ENGAGED AND THE FRONT END STARTED SLIDING HARD TO THE LEFT AND I STEERED AWAY FROM THE PULL. I SUBSEQUENTLY HIT THE CENTER CONCRETE WALL AT APPROX. 40MPH WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR, WHICH CAUSED ME TO SPIN AROUND AND HIT THE PASSENGER REAR, I CONTINUED TO SPIN UNTIL I WAS FACING BACK EAST. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY BUT IT CAUSED SEVERE DAMAGE TO CORE SUPPORT AND PASSENGER SIDE FRAME HORN. IT WAS A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT AND NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO ANYTHING BUT MY VEHICLE AND MYSELF, THE ABS DID NOT RELEASE WITHIN WHAT I APPROXIMATE TO BE ABOUT 6 SECONDS AND THIS SO CALLED SAFETY DEVICE NEARLY KILLED ME. I FIND THAT GM WILL SELL ME A SET OF BRAKE LINES FOR $500 AND I CAN HAVE THEM INSTALLED ANYWHERE I WANT TO. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND MY CAR FALLS IN THE RECALL CATEGORY, THE STAFF AT COURTESY CHEVROLET DID NOT FIX MY CAR ON THEIR EXPENSE BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT IN THEIR SYSTEM AS ONE OF THE CARS WITH A DEFECT/RECALL: RECALL: A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL IS A SITUATION IN WHICH MOST VEHICLES PRODUCED IN A PRODUCTION OR TOOLING RUN HAS A SEVERE ENOUGH FLAW IN A COMPONENT OR GROUP OF COMPONENTS IN THAT CONTINUED OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT MODIFICATION OR REPAIR COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH OF THE DRIVER AND/OR OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS TYPE OF RECALL IS KNOWN AS A NATIONAL RECALL. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT GM, A CORPORATION LOOKING TO GET THE ECONOMY BACK ON ITS OWN TWO FEET, IS NOT WORKING WITH THEIR CUSTOMERS TO PROVIDE A GREAT CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2008-07-15
  • VIN: 1GNDT13X53K
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE IN 10/2006, WE HAD HESITATION AND STALLING PROBLEMS. WITH A 2003 CHEVY BLAZER. WE HAD SEVERAL FULL TUNE-UPS, CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (UPON THE ADVICE OF A DEALERSHIP), FUEL RELAY REPLACEMENT, FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT ON TWO OCCASIONS, AND THE REMOVAL OF TWO (2) FACTORY RAGS THAT HAD BEEN LEFT IN THE FUEL TANK DURING THE MANUFACTURING OF THE VEHICLE. FINALLY THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL PUMP IN JULY 2008 -- TOTAL COST OVER $3,000. CONSTANT HESITATION WITH THE VEHICLE, AND AT LEAST A FEW DOZEN STALLING EPISODES WITH A COUPLE OF THEM HAPPENING ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY IN NEW JERSEY DURING BUSINESS TRIPS. UPON PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT FUEL PUMP, WE FOUND A PRODUCT BULLETIN IN THE BOX STATING "NEW IMPROVED CONNECTOR AND PIGTAIL FOR GM FUEL PUMP MODELS". IT WENT ON TO EXPLAIN THAT MANY GM VEHICLES FROM 1988 TO 2005 HAVE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ON THE FUEL PUMP MODULE THAT MAY BECOME LOOSE OVER TIME DUE TO VIBRATION, LEADING TO FAULTY, HIGH-RESISTANCE CONNECTIONS. THE SYMPTOMS -- BURNED OR MELTED CONNECTORS AND PINS -- LEAD TO A VOLTAGE DROP SITUATION WHERE LOW OR NO VOLTAGE CAN CAUSE THE MODULE TO STOP PUMPING. THE SOLUTION WAS THAT THE OEM DESIGN CONNECTOR WAS REPLACED. WE WROTE GO GM ASKING FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR AT LEAST THE FUEL PUMP AND INSTALLATION AND STATED THAT WE BELIEVE THAT OTHER OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY MADE AWARE OF THE SITUATION (WITH MORE THAN A PRODUCT BULLETIN ON THE INSIDE OF THE NEW FUEL PUMP BOX) AS THE STALLING PROBLEM COULD HAVE AND COULD VERY WELL RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT WITH OR WITHOUT INJURIES/DEATH WHEN THE VEHICLES JUST STALL WITHOUT WARNING WHENEVER AND WHERE EVER IT FEELS LIKE IT. GM RESPONDED TO MY LETTER THAT THEY WOULD BE TAKING NO ACTION -- NO REIMBURSEMENT TO ME AND NO NOTIFICATION TO ANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE PROBLEM. I TOLD THEM THIS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND THAT I WOULD PURSUE THE MATTER AS FAR AS I COULD TO SAVE INJURIES AND POSSIBLY LIVES. *TR

Negative 2003 Chevrolet Blazer car reviews

  1. Oda Waelchi 2024-10-20

I bought my 2003 Chevrolet Blazer in July of 2003. Every time I turn off the car, the exhaust pops when it cools down. Unfortunately, there is no known solution to this issue. I have been in contact with GM and the Better Business Bureau to try and resolve this problem. Despite these challenges, I am hopeful that we can find a solution. I have also had the radio replaced, but I still struggle with blind spots. Overall, I am not completely satisfied with my Blazer, but I am optimistic that we can work towards a resolution.

  2. Demarco Klein 2024-10-04

I purchased my Blazer brand new because I liked the 4x4 look and wanted another SUV. Unfortunately, I have had to replace the CD player and have had warranty work done on the stabilizer bar. Additionally, my exhaust kept running after I shut off the vehicle, but the dealer was finally able to fix it. I have also experienced water leakage in the rear side windows, which was repaired once, but has unfortunately started leaking again in '07. Water runs all across the header and drips all over the inside rear. The oil cooler lines, water pump, and ball joints were also leaking, but luckily, all of these issues were repaired under warranty. Unfortunately, the carpet wore through just after one year by the gas pedal. Prior to this purchase, I had driven two Jeep Cherokee Sports without any problems. At this time, I am hesitant to purchase another Chevy SUV.

  3. Cole Hoppe 2024-10-01

Since purchasing my '03 Blazer over a year ago, I have had to replace a ball joint, ignition switch, and mass air flow sensor due to hesitation when accelerating. Additionally, there have been several minor repairs. These issues are concerning, especially the passenger seat belt not clipping every time and the driver's seat no longer tilting forward. Even the CD player stopped working after only three months. After consulting with GM, it seems that replacing the car may be a more cost-effective solution than replacing the parts. It is clear that the car has experienced excessive wear and tear, and these issues are unacceptable.

  4. Russ Schroeder 2024-09-21

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it 8 months ago and while it was fun at first, I'm already considering trading it in. The gas mileage is quite low, with only 14 mpg and 16-18 on the highway, which makes it not worth it for me. Additionally, I was hoping for some exterior updates to show some kind of evolution, as my 2003 model looks exactly like every other Blazer. I'm not complaining, but it would have been nice to see some changes. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some money out of it to trade it in. Thanks for listening!

This was a great car! Although, I did have a problem with the door on the passenger side. In my last Chevy vehicle, the door seemed to split from the frame and the window rattled, which was very annoying. But overall, it has been a great car!

I bought the Extreme Version of this car. It looks awesome and people always ask me about it. It's powerful, has good torque, and is fun to drive.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I purchased this vehicle as a second car and it has been absolutely fantastic. Even though it had 28000 miles on it when I got it, I haven't had a single issue with it. I'm really happy with my purchase!

  4. Delaney Waelchi 2024-08-01

Your blazer is one of the best vehicles you've bought. It's comfortable, luxurious, and all-around great. I would recommend this vehicle to anybody looking for a nice ride.

It sounds like you have a lot of love for your Jimmy! Even though it's technically a truck, it's still small enough to haul things as needed. I totally understand not wanting to go back to a car after owning it. Although, it seems like the back seat comfort could be improved. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
