Honda Crosstour problems
The Honda Crosstour (initially branded the Accord Crosstour) is a mid-size crossover SUV with a sloping rear roofline manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda. It is based on the North American eighth-generation Accord. Sales began in November 2009 for the 2010 model year, and the vehicle was discontinued after the 2015 model year due to slow sales.
Design
The Crosstour was marketed as a "hatchback"/"wagon" variation of the Accord and shared the same platform. The Crosstour was powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine (choice of either front-wheel or all-wheel drive) or 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine (front-wheel drive only), with prices that started at $29,670, above those of the Accord sedan (which started at under $23,000). For the 2012 model year, Honda removed the "Accord" prefix, making the name just "Crosstour", and gave its front grille a restyle. A four-cylinder engine for front-wheel drive models was released in late 2011 and put on sale in early 2012.
The Crosstour was a direct competitor to the Toyota Venza, a crossover wagon based upon the Accord's perennial competitor, the Camry. And like the Venza, which was meant to replace the Camry wagon, the Crosstour was considered a successor to the Accord wagon.
In terms of positioning, the Crosstour slotted between the compact CR-V and fullsize Pilot in Honda's crossover SUV lineup, Compared to the Pilot, the Crosstour was longer but had two rows of seating compared to the Pilot's three and had approximately 50 cubic feet less interior space.
The Crosstour was sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Russia. Guangqi Honda built and marketed the Crosstour in China.

- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Car was due for timing belt maintenance at 100k miles. Timing belt and related parts were changed August 2023. I was told belt will last 100k miles. October 2024, 13.5 months later, the belt fails and causes catastrophic damage to the engine. My son had to push the car to the side the highway when this happened. Honda service said the engine is “toast” and is a cost of $7,000 to be replaced. Reached out to Honda corporate for help due to defective part. They said the part had a 12 month warranty and the car is too old to help you. I can only trust the people but so much but I should be able to trust the parts when they are OEM. Disappointed Honda no longer stands behind it parts.

- Summary: The paint started peeling off of my car slowly in small sections down both sides of my hatchback rear window over 2 years ago I took it into my local Honda dealership last year and was told there was no recall even though I find evidence to the contrary online. Many other white pearl colored Honda owners are having the same issue. I was told there may be a factory warranty extension, but when I called to inquire, I was told my car was not part of that extension. Subsequently two years later, the paint is now peeled, completely off the entire surround of the back glass along with a 6 x 7“ patch Across the bottom of hatch door on right hand side of release handle. Also with a bubbling up of double that size, seemingly ready to start peeling.

I ordered a replacement part in June 2023, but it has not yet arrived. I searched online. A YouTube video named "Why is this not a recall by Honda? ABS module Failure 2013 to 2017 and more" explains the issue. The YouTube video is posted by RB the mechanic. The comments under the video are from some people who encountered the same issue. - Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: All warning lights came on-LDW/ABS/VSA/FCW at first around 7/25/23 . Called Honda service-told to bring it in for diagnostic check. Then on 7/27/23 power steering went out-had car towed in to dealer-they fixed/replaced EPS Control unit under extended warranty extension 19-036. They diagnosed the electrical systems -said it needed VSA Modulator ($2222.36 prepaid)-and said safe to drive. That was at 54,947 miles on the car-after a couple of weeks, the ‘BRAKE LIGHT’ warning light came on -at first intermittently-then every time-then intermittently again. Called dealership-said -yes-that’s normal, that it happened to other Honda Crosstours an Honda Accords! They said ‘ should be safe to drive’ —???? Would you feel safe to driving this vehicle? Looked online -found article on the VSA Modulator-many Honda Crosstours and Accords had this same problem-saw a picture on why this modulator needed to be replaced-the ‘DESIGN FLAW’ was at the connection where it connected to the circuit board -solder broke, because too much pressure at connection when it plugged in ( vertically plugged in) This should be fixed under extended warranty like the power steering control unt— How or why the ‘brake warning light’ is unexplained, but it’s it a safety issue not knowing? If the brakes fail and someone is injured, minor or fatally, ‘who’s responsible’ -or ‘liable’-the driver or the manufacturer??????? My crosstour still awaiting VSA Modulator after two and a half months!! Issue: 1. Safe to drive 2. Who should pay 3.Who’s responsibility? (Liability)

- Summary: The starter system is intermittent and grinds on occasion which keeps the car from starting. If I were in a situation where the car must start, ie: on a railroad track etc., this would be deadly! I read on line where there are thousands of people having the same issue and Honda knows of this issue and has not addressed it! The starter motor housing is engineered incorrectly and after a short time, the teeth grind and destroy the flywheel. This needs to be recalled and if they do not, it needs to be a forced recall.

Coming from an older Accord, I must say that this is a really nice transition without going too big and boxy like an SUV. I particularly like the blue dash lights, the large navigation screen, the XM buttons, the darkened rear windows, the 3-view rear camera, the right side camera on demand, and the impressive safety rating. I'm banking on Honda's reliability, which I've experienced in the past. Update: The vehicle is still fine. I haven't figured out the best way to transport a medium-sized dog safely without scratching the seats.

I am a big fan of Honda cars, so I may be a little biased. My last two new cars were Honda Accord sedans. This time, I decided to go for the 2013 Honda Crosstour in Mountain Aire, which is a beautiful shade of blue. I absolutely love the versatility of this car - with the pull of a handle, one of the back seats folds flat, and if you pull the other handle, the other back seat folds down flat, making it a mini SUV. I have even fit five medium pet carriers in the back for vet visits and during a hurricane evacuation. The deck height at the rear of the car is perfect for me. When I open the hatchback, I can easily slide things in and out at a comfortable height. If I drive carefully, I can get an impressive 39 miles to the gallon, which is exceptional considering the size and weight of the car. The car has several upscale features, such as a camera in the passenger side sideview mirror, so you can see traffic in your blind spot. I ordered the E-XL model, which has navigation and leather seats. The driver seat has an eight-way power adjustable seat, while the front passenger seat has a six-way power adjustable seat. There are many personalization options, such as whether or not to beep your horn when you lock the car with the key fob, which interior lights, if any, you want to come on when you open the doors, which doors you want unlocked when you hit the unlock button on the key fob, and the rearview mirror will automatically aim down when backing up, and you can choose at any time which one you want to aim down - left or right. All in all, it’s a fantastic car. I have had it for 10 years and I don’t plan on replacing it anytime soon.

Vehicle year: 2015
Firstly, I never expected to have a Crosstour in my garage. Our family has had great experiences with Honda/Acura, as our other two cars are a 2007 Honda Accord Sedan V6 6MT and a 2014 Acura ILX 2.4 6MT. As a family in our late 20s with no kids yet, we wanted a hatchback for strollers and other items as they start coming. I am not a fan of the current trend of small I4s (DI Turbo or N/A) and/or CVTs powering family crossovers. We have always loved the performance and delivery of the V6, which is why we were set on having one in our family hauler. I do all the maintenance myself and don't really want to jump on the Direct Injected and/or turbo 4 train just yet. We were initially set on a used 16-18 Acura RDX in either the Tech or Advance guise. We had the money, could easily afford it, and were ready to make the purchase. However, after looking around at other makes and models, I was tempted by the excellent CX-5 (underpowered but gorgeous) but then I remembered the Crosstour. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the Accord Crosstour (10-12) but the refreshed interior/exterior really did wonders in my eyes. It had the same Engine (J35) as the RDX and even the same output (HP/lb-ft) but was happy running on regular fuel (huge plus), it had a 6 speed rather than the slushy 5 speed. The 5 speed steered us away from the TSX wagon. It had some neat features like the removable storage trunk area and safety features that we didn't even know it had. At that point, we were like, 'are we seriously considering the Crosstour?' I was aware of the sour car magazine reviews (C/D, MotorTrend and Consumer Reports) based mainly on its subjective looks and its lackluster storage capacity on paper. However, when I read the reviews of those who owned them, they were extremely pleased with their ownership.I test drove a few cars before, but when we test drove a 16 RDX Advance, the interior reminded me of our ILX, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the leather is quite thin. My wife wasn't a fan of the top-heavy feel and preferred the sedans we have. We were a bit picky and didn't like that the ventilated seats didn't seem to do much and that the tech didn't come with fog lights. Additionally, we noticed that the 13-15' RDX didn't have rear vents, and the navigation system on the RDX and Crosstour were nearly identical. We realized that we could get many of the same features in the Crosstour (minus the vented seats and adaptive cruise, which we wouldn't use anyway) for 5k-10k less than the RDX. After comparing the specs between the RDX and Crosstour, we found a used one owner '15 Crosstour EX-L V6 2WD and Navigation in the unique Kona Coffee Metallic. We test drove it, loved it, and left with it. This car is smooth, quiet, planted, and willing. The paddle shifters were something I specifically wanted, and this car hauls and makes all the right sounds when driven aggressively. The Dual Wishbone suspension does take up a bit of space and weight, but after driving the car, it is absolutely worth the penalty. We drive the Crosstour like our sportier sedans, and it's such a pleasure. It has more than enough space for us, and we use it as a buffer car until maybe a third kid pushes us toward larger SUVs. It shares all key components with the RDX and CR-V, so parts will always be plentiful.I really like the 18' wheels on this model, and the thicker rubber adds to the comfortable ride. We are genuinely pleased with this choice. On our longer cruise home, we averaged 31 mpgs, which showed what an excellent comfortable highway cruiser it is. If you're in the market for an off-lease deal, this should be a candidate. Admittedly, its looks aren't for everyone, but its utility and performance surpass many of the current comparable offerings. Surprisingly, we had quite a bit of competition finding this particular setup, with the low mile EX-L V6 2WD Navi's selling quickly. The test drive tells all, and it looks even better in person. I do recommend some items (I'm not affiliated with these products). I installed a S-VCM ($100), which basically gives you all 6 cyl all the time. The VCM system is obnoxious, and the longevity can be negatively affected. I also installed the Kensun 4300k HID (35W) ($60) in the projector housings, which match the performance and color of our '14 ILX's HIDs, and LED interior lights ($15). This is a solid package for the 0-2 kids demographic, and we have no complaints so far. And yes, you can open the rear hatch in your garage without hitting anything. :)

I had a Crosstour that I drove for over 100,000 miles. During the warranty period, I had a few issues with the interior carpet being cut too small at the factory, and the starter and differential needing to be replaced. I then traded it for a 2015 Crosstour, which was the last year Honda made this model. I did all the recommended services, including transmission fluid changes. However, I experienced some vibration issues after the last service, and was told by the service writer that I might need a new transmission. Despite having an extended warranty, I was disappointed to learn that this issue was on a dealer 'service bulletin'. The fix was to change the fluid a few times, but unfortunately, the problem persisted. I later found out that this was a common issue with many Crosstours. Since my first review, I had a few more issues with the radiator and head gasket, which were costly to repair. Despite these challenges, I still had 31 payments left on my car.

I have mixed feelings about my Honda Crosstour. While I love the ride, I have experienced some issues with the carpet in the rear on both passenger and driver side pulling away after only 3 years. Despite my attempts to tuck it back in, it still pulls away regularly, which is frustrating. Additionally, I have had some trouble with the interior lights, which seem to have a short in them and only work intermittently. However, the most concerning issue is with the backup camera, which is very dark and crucial for safety. Despite multiple visits to Honda, they have been unable to fix the issue, which has caused me a lot of stress and near accidents. I am hesitant to take it back again, but I am also worried about the resale value if I switch to a different brand. Overall, it has been a frustrating experience, but I am hopeful that a solution can be found.

This car model with the V6 comes with a motor warranty from Honda of America. Unfortunately, mine lost a cylinder at 110,450 miles. However, Honda rebuilt the engine and replaced most everything, and I only had to pay about $600. They even provided a free rental for a day. I was thrilled to discover this after reporting the issue to the NTHSA.

I purchased this car new in 2012 and initially loved it due to my previous positive experiences with Honda Accords. However, I noticed a persistent vibration between 21-24 mph that made it feel as though the car was about to stall. Despite taking the car back to Honda multiple times within the first year of ownership and having several parts replaced, the vibration persisted.

The ride and feel of the car is amazing. It's a quiet ride and the sound system is good. The AWD is great and with good tires, it's a tank in the snow. Although I had some issues with the backup camera and starter, the dealer was able to replace them. Unfortunately, the engine blew at 79,500 miles, and despite being under a mileage warranty, Honda was unable to help me due to being 9 days out of the extended warranty. It was a frustrating experience, but I still appreciate the positive aspects of the car. Thank you for your understanding.
