Honda S2000 problems
The Honda S2000 is a front-mid engine open top sports car that was manufactured by Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda, from 1999 until 2009. First shown as a concept car called the SSM at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1995, the production version was launched on April 15, 1999, to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary. The S2000 is named for its engine displacement of two litres, while "S" stood for "sports" carrying on in the tradition of the S500, S600, and S800 roadsters of the 1960s.
Several revisions were made throughout the car's production life, including changes to the engine, gearbox, suspension, interior and exterior. Officially two variants exist: the initial launch model was given the chassis code AP1; though cosmetically similar, the facelifted version, known as the AP2 in North America and Japan, incorporated significant changes to the drivetrain and suspension. Production of the S2000 ceased on August 19, 2009.
The Honda S2000 was notable for its exceptional specific power output of about 124 hp per litre, or about two horsepower per cubic inch, the highest of any mass production, naturally aspirated engined car, until 2010.
The S2000 has since become a legitimate modern classic car, having seen a significant appreciation in price for valued examples in good condition. In the JDM community and the car community as a whole, the most sought-after models are special edition productions such as the CR (Club Racer) in the USA market; the standard AP1 and AP2 models have achieved collectible status as well.

- Date Complaint: 2019-06-03
- VIN: JHMAP21444S
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: THE DIFFERENTIAL WENT OUT. I KNOW THIS MAY SOUND LIKE A MAINTENANCE PROBLEM, BUT THIS IS VERY COMMON IN THE HONDA S2000 COMMUNITY. THE METAL (GEARS) IN THE HOUSING BEGIN TO BREAK APART. ALL IT TAKES IS A CHUNK OF THAT METAL TO LODGE IN TO THE WRONG GEAR AND YOUR WHEELS COULD LOCK UP AND IT DOESN'T CARE IF YOU ARE DOING 30 MPH OR 90 MPH. THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS OR EVEN DEADLY. MY CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 130K MILES ON IT. I WAS TAKING A RIGHT TURN FROM A DEAD STOP/STOP SIGN WHEN MINE FAILED, FORTUNATELY. AGAIN. THIS IS VERY COMMON FOR THESE (DIFFERENTIALS) TO FAIL. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT OFF OF THE BUSY ROAD AND ON TO A RESIDENTIAL ROAD. IT HASN'T DROVE SINCE. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THE RIGT TURN I WAS MAKING WAS AT THE END OF A CURVE MAKING VISIBILITY OF MY BEING THERE VERY LOW. AGAIN. GOOD THING I WAS ABLE TO LIMP IT IN TO A U-TURN AND BACK TO THE RESIDENTIAL ROAD WHERE TRAFFIC WAS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER.

- Date Of Incident: 2018-09-21
- Date Complaint: 2018-09-27
- VIN: JHMAP21445S
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: THE LEFT SEAT ADJUSTMENT RAIL FOR THE DRIVER'S SEAT CRACKED ALL THE WAY ACROSS IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE BOLT HOLDING THE FORWARD END OF THE RAIL TO THE FLOOR. THIS ALLOWED THE DRIVERS SEAT TO ROCK BACK AND TO THE RIGHT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED. I HAD ADJUSTED THE SEAT FORWARD TO MY USUAL DRIVING POSITION, AND PUSHED BACKWARD ON THE SEAT TO CHECK THAT THE ADJUSTER WAS LOCKED. WHEN I DID THAT, THE SEAT BRACKET BROKE LOOSE AND THE SEAT TILTED BACK AND TO THE RIGHT. I HAVE REPLACED THE BROKEN RAIL, HONDA PART NUMBER 81660-S2A-A02. I PREVIOUSLY REPLACED THE RIGHT SIDE DRIVER'S SEAT RAIL (81670-S2A-A02) WHEN THE ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM JAMMED, IN JANUARY2011. THAT PART IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE NEW FROM HONDA. ALL BOLTS WERE REINSTALLED ACCORDING TO TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS IN THE HONDA S2000 FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL.

- Date Of Incident: 2016-09-02
- Date Complaint: 2016-11-04
- VIN: JHMAP21457S
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I HAD MY MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED WHEN MY CAR WAS AT 40,000 MILES IN THE CLUTCH. NOW AT 68,777 MILES THE CLUTCH HAS SOMETHING WRONG BUT STILL SHIFTS INTO GEAR AT THIS POINT. NOW THEY ARE GUESSING THAT THE CLUTCH FORK IS WEARING OUT WHICH IS OVER $2,000.00 TO REPLACE. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY ANOTHER MECHANIC THAT MY MASTER CYLINDER DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A HONDA PART. I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE TO HAVE THIS REPLACED RIGHT NOW SO I WAS TOLD I COULD DRIVE IT BY HONDA. IF IT GOES OUT ON THE FREEWAY I WON'T BE ABLE TO SHIFT GEARS. MY CAR IS NOT BEEN DRIVING HARD AND IT'S WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND SERVICED PROPERLY ALONG WITH BEING GARAGED ALWAYS. I PUT AROUND 8,000 MILES A YEAR ON IT AND I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE IT WELL. I DON'T RACE IT OR SPEED SHIFT EVER. I FEEL THAT THIS CAR HAS FAULTY PARTS IN THE CLUTCH AND PLATES ALONG WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER. I'M NOT A MECHANIC BUT I DO KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT CARS AND DID MY RESEARCH ON HONDA'S. THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO HAVE LONG TIME RUNNING CARS. I EVEN TOOK OUT A 7 YEAR WARRANTY SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY SO MUCH OUT OF POCKET. IF IT WAS DIFFERENT THINGS HAPPENING I WOULDN'T QUESTION IT BUT THIS IS ALL TRANSMISSION THINGS AND I'M VERY WORRIED THAT THEY WERE FAULTY TO BEGIN WITH. WHEN I PRESS THE CLUTCH DOWN IT SOMETIMES CATCHES AT THE TOP PART. IF THAT DOESN'T ENGAGE I CAN'T SLOW DOWN OR STOP. *TR

I've been driving sports cars for decades, but I have to say that the Honda S2000 is the most impressive vehicle I've driven in its price range. I've tried every other modern car in its class, including the Porsche Boxster, Audi TT, BMW Z3, Miata, and MR2, but none of them come close to creating the same level of pure excitement, hair-raising speed, and surgical handling as the little Honda. In fact, my MGB has not been out of the garage since I brought the S2000 home!

I always smile when I get into this car, and my smile only gets bigger from there! I used to own an MG years ago, but this car is way better. It has a powerful engine that can be intimidating, but it's also gentle when it needs to be. I love driving it like a madman, but my wife can also drive it and look cool. It truly is a wonderful machine!

After purchacing my S2000 in Anchorage in March, I quickly realized that a second car was needed in any area that required driving in the snow. That being said, this is the most fantastic car that I've ever driven. Though it packs quite a punch (240 hp), it is a very tame every day driver. But, when you want to unleash that horsepower, it's always there on command. It's handling is extremely precise, and there is little or no body roll in the corners. The chassis is extremely rigid, and the car feels as it is one piece. Having 6 speeds, the shifter is crisp and has short throws. The seats are firm and supportive. There is very little trunk room, though, so pack lightly.

The 2000 and 2001 models have unfortunately experienced a series of electrical and mechanical issues, including oil starvation, oil consumption, ECU failure, spark plugs backing out, and serious issues with bent valves. While some of these issues may be attributed to driver error, many are due to quality control and design issues. It is important to note that some of these problems can lead to catastrophic engine failure. Additionally, it has been reported that Honda is starting to deny valid warranty claims for technicalities. It is worth noting that engine repair can be extremely costly due to the lack of aftermarket parts and low quantities. For more information and testimonials, please visit s2ki.com.

I leased my S2000 for three years. It's a really fun car to drive, but it's not the most economical option out there. While it has a lot of power, it doesn't have much room for anything else. If you're single and not planning on taking any long trips, then it's perfect for you. However, the car and trunk are quite small, so it's difficult to fit a suitcase in it. It's a great car for college kids who have time to drive around and are slim enough to fit in it. I always had to be careful about who I offered a ride to, as not everyone would fit in it.

This car is an absolute blast to drive! I use it as my daily driver and it never fails to put a smile on my face. Although the cabin may not be the roomiest, the seats are incredibly comfortable, making long drives a breeze. Unfortunately, I did experience a few issues recently. After purchasing the car used in 2008 with only 14K miles on it, I had no problems until this past year when the AC compressor and clutch master cylinder needed repairs. Despite these setbacks, I still love driving this car and hope to have many more trouble-free miles ahead!

I recently purchased a Honda convertible, but unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with it. The convertible top ripped and is quite loud on the freeway, causing me discomfort. Additionally, I had to pay $2000.00 to fix a broken valve, which was not covered under warranty. I also had to replace the xenon bulb three times. Despite these issues, I appreciate the car's appearance and performance, but I believe there is room for improvement in terms of reliability.

This car is fun to drive but not when it is sitting in the driveway with a need of major engine repair. The reason, the early years have a bad flow of oil. Not quite sure why but apparently the Europeans caught on to this and fixed the problem early on. This car sucks oil. Honda dealerships need to tell people this when purchasing. Honda also needs to make others aware of this situation. Low oil in any engine is a bad thing. Especially when the oil light never comes on to warn the driver.
