Honda Hr-v problems
The Honda HR-V is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) manufactured and marketed by Honda over three generations.
The first generation HR-V was based on the Honda Logo. It was marketed from 1999 to 2006 in Europe, Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets – and featured three doors (1999–2003) or five doors (1999–2006). The two configurations were internally designated GH2 and GH4 respectively.
After a seven-year hiatus, Honda reintroduced the nameplate for the second generation HR-V, based on the third-generation Honda Fit. Production began in late 2013 for the Japanese domestic market as the Honda Vezel (Japanese: ホンダ・ヴェゼル, Hepburn: Honda Vezeru), while production started in 2015 for North America, Australia, Brazil and select Asian markets as the HR-V. Apart from Japan, the model is also sold as the Vezel in China.
For the third-generation model, the nameplate is split between two different vehicles, one for the global market (sold as the Vezel in Japan), and a larger model based on the eleventh-generation Civic destined for North America and China. The latter model is sold outside those markets as the Honda ZR-V.
According to Honda, the name "HR-V" stands for "Hi-rider Revolutionary Vehicle", while the name "Vezel" is coined from "bezel", the oblique faces of a cut gem, with the "V" for "vehicle".

Common Honda Hr-v problems
The Honda HR-V is a popular subcompact crossover SUV known for its lively handling, generous cargo space, good fuel economy, and wide range of useful features:
- Low-quality paint: This is the most common problem reported by Honda HR-V owners. In some instances, owners complained about the paint on the crossover SUV bubbling, while others reported that, after a few years of driving, large sections of paint would flake off the roof. Rust can also corrode the paint and bodywork, requiring repainting of the HR-V, which can cost thousands of dollars depending on the extent of the paint problem.
- Complications with the accelerator: There are two variations of this problem. The first one is when drivers lightly press on the throttle from a complete stop, and the crossover SUV suddenly leaps forward as if someone slammed on the gas pedal. The second issue occurs when driving at highway speeds, where the HR-V starts to slow down and continues to lose speed, even when applying more throttle. To address either of these accelerator complications, a mechanic must first conduct a diagnostic check to get to the root of the problem. The solution could be as simple as an electric control (ECU) update, which Honda might provide for free. However, at the opposite end of the repair spectrum, a part of the engine bay might need to be replaced, which can cost owners around a few hundred dollars.
- Loose or dislodged window gaskets: A window gasket is the rubber section at the window frame that forms a tight seal when the windows are rolled up to the top. It keeps rain, wind, and other weather elements out of the vehicle. However, HR-V drivers have complained about the window gaskets becoming loose or getting dislodged. Rectifying this issue typically requires replacing the window gaskets, which consist of four parts. All four cost around $100, along with the cost of labor if completed by a service center.
It is important to note that most HR-V models are not affected by these issues, and they don't necessarily affect all model years. However, they are the most frequently reported problems, so it is essential to be aware of them when considering the purchase of a Honda HR-V.
Does the Honda HR-V have any problems?
Like the previous model year, the 2019 Honda HR-V by itself is a reliable vehicle but has some problems that may affect your ownership experience. CarComplaints has documented 81 complaints and four recalls for the 2019 Honda HR-V. The prominent trouble spot of this SUV is its fuel propulsion system.
What is the weakness of the Honda HR-V?
The HR-V has a relatively roomy interior for its size, user-friendly controls, and 27 mpg overall fuel economy. But ride comfort and sound insulation are weak points. Handling is ordinary but ultimately secure. We found that the 158-hp, 2.0-liter engine and CVT feel underpowered.
What is the most reliable year of Honda HR-V?
What model years of the Honda HR-V are best? If you are looking for a pre-owned certified Honda HR-V, it's best to look for one that was made within the last five years. According to NHTSA statistics, model years 2020, 2021, and 2022 were the most reliable model years.
How many miles will a Honda HR-V last?
According to hotcars.com, the Honda HR-V will last 150,000-200,000 miles with solid care. The lifespan is partially dependent on random forces but dependent on how well you care for and drive the car on the road.

Vehicle year: 2016
I've owned this vehicle since September 26, 2015. I opted for the 2016 EX model as it boasts some of the latest technology, including a sunroof and a large screen that provides practical instant information. Even after two years, I'm still pleased with its performance and handling, and I have to admit that it's all I need. I particularly enjoy the HR-V for its handling and easy entry and exit. Although I would have preferred leather seats, I purchased covers that match the interior and keep the seats clean. I use my smartphone for navigation, so I felt that I didn't need the next model up just to get leather and navigation. This little beauty has lots of features, and it provides a smooth ride with comfortable seats. The carpeting could be of better quality, but this is a minor distraction. Although I thought the engine could be a little bigger for more power, I have to admit that whether in the city or on the highway, this is all the power I need. I understand that this is a popular vehicle, and I heard that sales have doubled since Honda offered it for sale two years ago. It will be a very successful addition to Honda's fleet. I plan to drive mine for many years to come. One other note - I do wish that Honda would provide us with more insulation to provide a quiet cabin like Ford does. That is my only negative with Honda autos, well at least the CR-V and HR-V.

I chose this little SUV because I previously owned a jeep liberty and wanted a vehicle that still sat up off the ground a bit, had the storage of my jeep, and still felt sporty but was better on gas. There are a few things I absolutely love about this car. Firstly, the gas mileage is amazing. I live in Hawaii and although it's a small island, I still drive quite a bit and I only need to fill up once every two weeks, sometimes even longer. The seats sit up higher than a sedan, so I still feel like I can see my surroundings and it's pretty easy to get in and out of. Perfect combination! I also love how this car handles the road. It hugs every curve you go through and switches lanes with ease. The right side mirror has a side view camera on the radio, which I thought I would never use, but now I'm almost half dependent on it. I don't feel like there are too many blind spots when checking over my shoulders to switch lanes either, which is nice. The driver's side mirror doesn't come with the lane watch, but there is a small section already built in so you can see what's over there. The storage is great too. I love that I can choose to flip my rear seats up and they will stay that way as long as the bar is tucked down, allowing for way more space for taller objects. The back seats also fold down completely flat and make the entire trunk space get at least 1/3rd bigger. I'm about 5'10I'm not 18 anymore and don't care to have a 'system' in my car, but this little thing will give you just the right amount of bass if you desire it. The radio functions are super easy to figure out, and it's easy to pair Bluetooth with and customize the color scheme to your liking. The screen is also a touch screen and fairly sensitive, so you're not spending half of your time mashing your radio to get it to work. There are multiple charging options in this little car too, which can prove to be more amazing than not. If you just have a USB or an actual car charger, there's a place to plug your phone in about three total, and that's just the front. The rear backup camera sits low to the ground, so you can actually see where you're going and don't feel like you're backing up a truck, which I have seen in other cars. So, I personally feel more confident when using it. Although the backup camera is great, there are a few things I would improve on it. There's no beeping to indicate you're getting close to something. There are colors showing if you're in the clear or not, but a beep would be nice. Also, I've seen in other cars where it will help you back straight in, and your car won't be half sideways. Not the case with this camera. As long as your wheels are straight, it says you're straight. I would fix that. The headrests are also very comfortable; it's like they have been lined with memory foam almost. One of my favorite features. So now, some of the things I don't like or would change. This is a small car and isn't meant to go 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. If you're going up a hill and trying to get around a car super fast, you're going to tell your car isn't up for that, but other than that, I have no problem. It accelerates just fine to me other than getting up a hill super fast. The windshield is a little long for me, but then again, I'm coming from a jeep to a small SUV. And the last con would be the brake hold. I very, very rarely use it.It works as it's supposed to. Although I personally find it to be a useless feature, I still love my Honda. Even though I originally wanted a Mazda CX5, I'm happy with my decision. The car makes me feel safe and provides great visibility. I never feel the urge to speed, which is a good thing. Whether you're 16 and looking for your first car, 26 and in need of a family car, or 96 and looking for something more, the Honda HRV is a great choice. It's sporty enough for weekend adventures, yet safe and practical for everyone else. You won't be disappointed if you buy this car.

The Honda Hr-V Sport has great room and mileage, but unfortunately, I have experienced several electrical problems with it. When I took it back to Honda, they initially suggested that it was a battery issue. However, I pointed out that I had only owned the car for two years, so it couldn't be the battery. They didn't have an answer for me. Interestingly, my daughter also owns a Honda Hr-V Sport, albeit in a different color, and she had to have her battery changed too. Recently, we received a recall notice for electronic problems, so we have made an appointment to take our cars back to Honda to have the issues fixed. Unfortunately, we have both been stranded by our cars not turning on, and my daughter's car even turned off while she was driving it. She had to call her insurance roadside assistance, and the guy who helped her said that it looked like her battery wasn't charging properly.

My previous car was a CRV that I absolutely loved. That might be why I don't feel as safe in the HRV, which is genuinely a much smaller vehicle.

My wife has always owned CRVs and I must say, I really liked her last two. Although they were a bit older, they held up well in the rough part of the country we used to live in. Now that we are back in Los Angeles, we have noticed that the roads and driving are quite different. We have had this car for almost two years now, as my wife got it on a lease. While we won't be keeping it afterward, I must say that it is a great car overall. It performs well on surface streets and has better acceleration than I expected based on some of the write-ups I've seen. It also handles cargo quite well, as I was able to fit a sizable pile of 2x4s and 4x4s in the back after folding down the seats and covering everything with moving blankets. It can easily carry four large totes and is great on gas, although the tank is quite small. It warms up quickly and the seat heaters are a nice touch. As someone who is 6'2I've owned a variety of cars in my life, from 1950s trucks to 60s Mustangs, a Porsche, and even a modern Corvette racecar. However, my experience with this car has been disappointing. While it handles well on dirt roads, it feels every bump on the freeway in a negative way. The pot holes are horrible and the new tires that came with it grab seams in the road and want to follow them. The worst part is hard to describe though. At speeds over 60, it becomes very twitchy and has a strange body roll type of response to hump type ups and downs on the freeway. The average speed on the open road here is 70-80, and anything over 60 is very uncomfortable to drive. It takes a lot of extra attention to keep the car from moving around in the lane, and its body movement and shocks are just horribly distracting. While I won't go as far as to say it's dangerous, it's definitely not up to my standards. I've never owned a new car in my life because I prefer motorcycles and trucks, but I expected more from a car of this price and technology. Unfortunately, it falls short of the abilities of all my old junkers. I'm disappointed to say that I will be getting rid of this car. My only other complaint is the warning system that alerts me when I'm too close to something or crossing a line. However, I have noticed that it sometimes warns me about cracks in the road that don't even have paint on them, which can be quite annoying. As an experienced driver of 50 years, I have been avoiding bad drivers from all over the world my entire life, so I don't need a car telling me things that aren't helpful at all. Additionally, the light for these warnings is located under the dashboard, which can be distracting and take my attention off the road. Despite turning off the system that slams on brakes and grabs the wheel, the flashing yellow light is still a nuisance. However, I understand that this feature may be helpful for some drivers. My wife and I recently test drove an electric Ford Mustang and were blown away by its performance and handling. We are considering switching to an electric truck as well and installing solar panels on the roof to recoup some of the cost. Overall, this is the first Honda that I have not been completely satisfied with, but I appreciate the effort put into the warning system. Thank you for the opportunity to share my honest review. All the cars and motorcycles were great. If you're looking for a zippy car that handles well on corners and long trips, this one comes close. However, it may not be the best choice for freeway driving, as it can be risky. It might be suitable for young or inexperienced drivers, but it's important to avoid distractions while driving. Overall, I like this car, except for the freeway issue and the warning system. We're considering another CRV, especially the hybrid, but the Ford is also a great option.

This car has less than 24,000 miles on it. Although, I must admit that the IPC display had to be replaced and the paint has started to bubble up and peel off. I'm disappointed with my experience with Honda, but I hope to find a better car in the future.

Hi there! When I first got this Honda, I was really excited about how quiet, practical, and fuel-efficient it seemed. However, I've had a few issues with it lately - I've been stranded a few times and have had to call Honda Roadside Service multiple times in a day just to start the car. Since it's a new model, I think the mechanics might not be familiar with the electrical system yet. I'm not sure if I would buy another one, but I'm hoping to get this one running properly. If not, I might consider trading it in after only two years of use.
