Honda Hr-v problems

The Honda HR-V is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) manufactured and marketed by Honda over three generations.
The first generation HR-V was based on the Honda Logo. It was marketed from 1999 to 2006 in Europe, Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets – and featured three doors (1999–2003) or five doors (1999–2006). The two configurations were internally designated GH2 and GH4 respectively.
After a seven-year hiatus, Honda reintroduced the nameplate for the second generation HR-V, based on the third-generation Honda Fit. Production began in late 2013 for the Japanese domestic market as the Honda Vezel (Japanese: ホンダ・ヴェゼル, Hepburn: Honda Vezeru), while production started in 2015 for North America, Australia, Brazil and select Asian markets as the HR-V. Apart from Japan, the model is also sold as the Vezel in China.
For the third-generation model, the nameplate is split between two different vehicles, one for the global market (sold as the Vezel in Japan), and a larger model based on the eleventh-generation Civic destined for North America and China. The latter model is sold outside those markets as the Honda ZR-V.
According to Honda, the name "HR-V" stands for "Hi-rider Revolutionary Vehicle", while the name "Vezel" is coined from "bezel", the oblique faces of a cut gem, with the "V" for "vehicle".

Common Honda Hr-v problems
The Honda HR-V is a popular subcompact crossover SUV known for its lively handling, generous cargo space, good fuel economy, and wide range of useful features:
- Low-quality paint: This is the most common problem reported by Honda HR-V owners. In some instances, owners complained about the paint on the crossover SUV bubbling, while others reported that, after a few years of driving, large sections of paint would flake off the roof. Rust can also corrode the paint and bodywork, requiring repainting of the HR-V, which can cost thousands of dollars depending on the extent of the paint problem.
- Complications with the accelerator: There are two variations of this problem. The first one is when drivers lightly press on the throttle from a complete stop, and the crossover SUV suddenly leaps forward as if someone slammed on the gas pedal. The second issue occurs when driving at highway speeds, where the HR-V starts to slow down and continues to lose speed, even when applying more throttle. To address either of these accelerator complications, a mechanic must first conduct a diagnostic check to get to the root of the problem. The solution could be as simple as an electric control (ECU) update, which Honda might provide for free. However, at the opposite end of the repair spectrum, a part of the engine bay might need to be replaced, which can cost owners around a few hundred dollars.
- Loose or dislodged window gaskets: A window gasket is the rubber section at the window frame that forms a tight seal when the windows are rolled up to the top. It keeps rain, wind, and other weather elements out of the vehicle. However, HR-V drivers have complained about the window gaskets becoming loose or getting dislodged. Rectifying this issue typically requires replacing the window gaskets, which consist of four parts. All four cost around $100, along with the cost of labor if completed by a service center.
It is important to note that most HR-V models are not affected by these issues, and they don't necessarily affect all model years. However, they are the most frequently reported problems, so it is essential to be aware of them when considering the purchase of a Honda HR-V.
Does the Honda HR-V have any problems?
Like the previous model year, the 2019 Honda HR-V by itself is a reliable vehicle but has some problems that may affect your ownership experience. CarComplaints has documented 81 complaints and four recalls for the 2019 Honda HR-V. The prominent trouble spot of this SUV is its fuel propulsion system.
What is the weakness of the Honda HR-V?
The HR-V has a relatively roomy interior for its size, user-friendly controls, and 27 mpg overall fuel economy. But ride comfort and sound insulation are weak points. Handling is ordinary but ultimately secure. We found that the 158-hp, 2.0-liter engine and CVT feel underpowered.
What is the most reliable year of Honda HR-V?
What model years of the Honda HR-V are best? If you are looking for a pre-owned certified Honda HR-V, it's best to look for one that was made within the last five years. According to NHTSA statistics, model years 2020, 2021, and 2022 were the most reliable model years.
How many miles will a Honda HR-V last?
According to hotcars.com, the Honda HR-V will last 150,000-200,000 miles with solid care. The lifespan is partially dependent on random forces but dependent on how well you care for and drive the car on the road.

Great car! It has all the features a driver needs. While it may not have the best power, it gets you from A to B. And who needs all those fancy play options when your focus should be on driving? I highly recommend investing in a car that can last 10-15 years, and Honda definitely delivers on that front! If you're looking for an electric car that can drive you while your computer or mobile device controls you, then that's a different story. But for those who truly enjoy the driving experience, Honda is the way to go!

As someone who had never owned an SUV before, I was initially interested in the CR-V due to Honda's reputation for reliability. However, when I asked to see their small SUV, I was pleasantly surprised to be shown the HR-V instead. It was perfectly sized for my needs and several thousand dollars less than the CR-V. After a test drive, I decided to purchase the HR-V and have no regrets five months into ownership. Although it is slightly smaller than the CR-V, it still provides ample space for two people and dogs, as well as occasional large items. The back seats fold down to provide excellent carrying capacity, and there is good room for both front and back passengers. I opted for the mid-level model, which is nicely equipped for a reasonable price. The Honda colors, unfortunately, leave something to be desired, but that is a minor issue. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend the HR-V to anyone in the market for a small SUV. The sales process was a bit tedious, but that is unfortunately par for the course when buying a car.The true test will be in 2-4 years, but based on my experience with Honda owners who have had their cars for years, I expect this vehicle to last a good long time.

Congratulations on your new Honda HR-V! It's always exciting to upgrade to a new vehicle, especially when it's from a brand you trust. I can understand why you chose the HR-V, as it provides the higher car you need while still staying loyal to Honda. It's great to hear that you've been happy with Honda for 9 years. If you're in the market to buy, I would recommend checking out the CR-V. However, if you're interested in leasing, the HR-V is a great choice. It has a smooth drive and impressive fuel economy. I love the cargo space and the 'magic' seats, which make it easy to transport anything you need. While it may be underpowered, it still performs well and has great features like the touch screen and a/c control. The only downsides are having to manually open and close the tailgate and having only two USB ports on the front. Overall, the HR-V is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a reliable and practical vehicle.

I am so glad I chose the 2019 Honda HRV EXL AWD! It fits my size restrictions perfectly and has great gas mileage, plenty of cargo space, and excellent safety features. The all-wheel drive is a bonus, and I absolutely love the audio system. Owning a Honda again makes me feel confident and secure. The red color is outstanding and makes me feel 20 years younger! I appreciate the affordability, practicality, safety, and joy in driving that the HRV provides. After 7 months of driving it, I am enjoying it more and more each day. The visibility is great, and I find the brake hold button to be a useful feature. Update: It's been a year since I purchased the HRV, and my love for it has only grown stronger.

I absolutely love this car! It's so satisfying to drive and it's been a game changer for me, especially during the snowy Michigan winters. Compared to my sedan, it's much more practical and easier to get in and out of. However, I have noticed a big defect when going over tarstrips and bumps while braking. It's not so much a noise as a feeling in the pedal, like a mechanical take-up or loose assembly coming under tension. I took it in to the shop right after I got it, but they couldn't find anything wrong. I even wrote to Honda to see if there was a known problem, but they just told me to take it back to the shop. Unfortunately, the clunking persisted and it's really taken a lot of joy out of owning a brand new car. I'm planning on reporting it to Honda soon, but I'm not sure what they'll do. Hopefully they'll be able to resolve this defective mechanical problem. On the bright side, I've had a great experience working with Honda America to try and resolve this issue. They explained that they don't diagnose defects that their computer program doesn't recognize, which is a bit of a Catch-22 for HRV owners. However, they have developed repair protocols and are urging owners of defective HRVs to keep an eye out for recalls.

I bought my HRV a year ago today, on October 4th, 2019. I needed something to drive in the winter and for general running around. As my first Honda vehicle in 26 years, and having loved my old Prelude, I had high hopes for the HRV. However, it has not met my expectations. Unfortunately, everything about this vehicle is loud, from the suspension to the wind noise and glove box rattle. I had to take it in 3 times before they fixed the glove box rattle. I also asked them to check the window and door seals as the highway wind noise is insanely loud. The suspension works about as well as my old 1977 Ford F250. Additionally, the seat belt is so sensitive that it frequently locks up while I am just trying to pull it out to put it on. To top it off, I had a wiper arm fly off while driving down the highway just two weeks after purchasing the vehicle. Despite my disappointment, I am planning to trade it in soon on a Kia, after test driving one last week and liking it much more than my Honda.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my 2021 truck. While it hasn't been the most fuel-efficient vehicle, I have noticed that it has been having some issues with the battery. I took it to the dealer, but unfortunately, they weren't able to find anything wrong. However, I'm currently preparing a report to share with other consumers in the hopes of getting this issue resolved. Thanks for listening!

I purchased the new 2019 Honda HR-V Sport AWD a couple of months ago, but unfortunately, it hasn't met my expectations. While it does have some positive aspects such as great gas mileage and good handling in the snow, there are several downsides that I find difficult to overlook. For instance, the car is quite slow, which can be dangerous when merging onto the highway, especially on short merging ramps uphill. Additionally, I can feel every bump in the road through the seat, pedals, and steering wheel, which can be quite uncomfortable. The sport model also lacks automatic headlights, glove box lights, and lights in the cargo area, making it difficult to find things at night. Furthermore, the car required a software update at only 5,000 miles to lessen engine vibrations, which was unexpected. Although the car looks visually better than many of its competitors, I find that the cons outweigh the pros. For reference, I have previously owned a 98 Ford Contour, a similar aged Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and a 05 Lexus RX, and I had no complaints about any of those cars. Overall, I regret this purchase.

Vehicle year: 2018
I purchased my 2018 Honda HR-V brand new with only 4 miles on it in December. Unfortunately, I have had to take it to the shop three times since then. The first time, while driving at around 50 MPH, I tried to roll down the front passenger window and it suddenly fell inside the car, causing it to break/crack. The dealership kept the car for 5 days to fix the window regulator, but when I got it back, the door/window sounded terrible. I took it back and they discovered that the window needed to be replaced and the run channel in my door was broken, along with the regulator again. They kept the vehicle for another 7 days. Six months later, I noticed that my front passenger door was rattling and the window was wobbling when I tried to roll it down. I took it back to the dealership and it has now been in the shop for 2 days for another regulator break, broken door panel clips and loose speaker boundary brackets. Although I had heard that Honda is one of the most reliable vehicle brands, my experience has not been up to standards. I would advise caution when considering purchasing this model.

The gas pedal vibration and uncomfortable braking are issues that need to be addressed. The vehicle's gas mileage is lower than the EPA estimates suggest, even when driving in a fuel-conscious manner. Additionally, the LCD on the instrument cluster is outdated and cluttered, and the cupholders are over-engineered and not very functional. The Econ button does not seem to have any effect on fuel efficiency. Finally, the black interior lacks contrast and can feel overwhelming. These are all areas that can be improved upon to enhance the overall driving experience.
