Honda Ridgeline problems

The Honda Ridgeline is a mid-size pickup truck manufactured by Honda. Currently the company's only pickup, it is built using a unibody frame and a transverse-mounted engine. It is offered only in a crew–cab short-box configuration with one powertrain.
First generation (YK1; 2006)
The first-generation Ridgeline went on sale in March 2005 as a 2006 model year vehicle. The Car Design Yearbook called it "Honda's first foray into the true heartland of the American automotive way of life—the pickup truck." An engineering team from Honda R&D Americas, led by Gary Flint, designed the vehicle. According to the author of Driving Honda, the automaker wanted to target buyers who were looking to move to a pickup from sedans, minivans, and sport utility vehicles (SUV).
The development started in 2001 with a development mule using an extended version of a first-generation Acura MDX with a competitor's pickup bed integrated into the rear structure. After four years of development, a Sport Utility Truck Concept was shown at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. Later that same year, Honda unveiled a revised version at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show and announced the official name of the vehicle, the Ridgeline. The production version of the Ridgeline was unveiled the following year at the 2005 North American International Auto Show.
Honda's publications claim that the first generation Ridgeline shared only 7% of its components with other Honda vehicles. Its powertrain resembled the one used in the first-generation Acura MDX but was "extensively calibrated and strengthened" for heavier hauling and towing duties.
Production of the first generation Ridgeline ended in early 2015.

Common Honda Ridgeline problems
The Honda Ridgeline, a compact truck known for its utility and fuel efficiency, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners.
Another common problem with the Honda Ridgeline is the transmission failing to shift into fourth gear, which can cause a vibration around 40 mph and a noticeable hesitation from the truck.
The Honda Ridgeline's tailgate has also been reported to have issues, with the swing-out function breaking and making the in-bed trunk inaccessible.
Additionally, some Honda Ridgeline owners have reported noise and shuddering whenever they steer their trucks around a tight corner, which has been traced back to the rear differential.
In summary, the Honda Ridgeline has several common problems, including engine issues, transmission problems, tailgate issues, and rear differential problems.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-15
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-15
- VIN: 5FPYK3F70LB
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: Scheduled my vehicle for recall related to the tailgate/camera/rear area warning system harness replacement for today 10-15-2024 after two notices. Upon arriving for my appointment, I learned that the dealer, Voyles Honda Marietta, GA does not have the parts, nor can they provide a time/date when parts would be available. Further, the Service Manager, Marvin, said the same parts issue is present with a fuel pump and electric steering campaign currently released. From prior involvement with many heavy truck campaign recalls, I know the O.E.M. Is required to have adequate repair parts to satisfy the released safety recall. In the previously noted Honda recalls this requirement is ignored by the manufacturer placing safety concern on the public, stressing dealers, and forcing vehicle owners to operate defective vehicles because parts to repair are not available, nor is there an expected date when they will be. Responses like “on manufacturer back order “ is not acceptable for a released National Safety Recall. Honda Corporate needs to be held accountable and owners need to be compensated for their inconvenience. Maybe restrict Honda from selling more vehicles until ALL safety campaigns are completed. NHTSA, check your records on Honda’s completion performance and take appropriate actions.

Honda Ridgeline 2019
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-23
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-09
- VIN: 5FPYK3F70KB
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I am writing to bring to your attention a significant issue I have encountered with my 2019 Honda Ridgeline, which recently suffered a catastrophic engine failure from a seized connecting rod bearing, resulting in a blown engine. With virtually no warning, the dash lights illuminated and the engine lost power and started smoking while on the freeway. A 911 was called and police and fire responded. The engine compartment was drenched with water in an effort to prevent a fire. Any delay in emergency services response would have certainly resulted in a fire and possible accident or injury. The vehicle was towed to and is currently at my local Honda dealer who confirmed the cause of the engine failure. I was informed that there was a recall issued for this exact problem for 2017 and 2019 Honda Ridgelines, however my VIN was not included in the recall even though my vehicle experienced the same engine problems. Allstate insurance inspected the vehicle and confirmed the cause of the failure. Additionally, after researching this issue I found that there are numerous 2017 and 2019 Honda Ridgeline owners who have also experienced the same exact issues. I would like to understand why my vehicle was not included in this recall and if there is anything that the NHTSA can do to get it covered. I was told by Honda America that you have the authority to expand the recall. .

The Honda Ridgeline is a great choice for those looking for a pickup truck. It has a shorter length, making it easier to park, and boasts better safety ratings (5 star vs. 4 star) for driver and roll overs (4 star vs. 3 star). Additionally, it has better mpg, a locking waterproof trunk, and provides a more comfortable ride. The Ridgeline is a welcome departure from the boring look of the age-old pickup truck. While the Toyota Tundra offers a shorter braking distance, 500 lbs. increased weight, a super quasi Lexus designed V-8 engine, is reportedly stronger off-road, and tows about 1,600 more lbs., on balance, the Ridgeline is the best choice - it is as good as it gets!

I've owned my Ridgeline for around 6 months now and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations. Before purchasing it, I did a ton of research and I am happy to report that I have not been disappointed. When I drive it, I can feel the quality and attention to detail that went into designing it. Personally, I prefer the older models over the new ones. If you happen to come across one that has been well-maintained, I highly recommend jumping on the opportunity. You won't be disappointed!

I've owned several trucks in the past, including models from Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Nissan, and Toyota. However, the 2023 Honda Ridgeline has been my absolute favorite so far. It's incredibly spacious, has a smooth ride, and boasts impressive fuel efficiency (25 MPG Highway). While I initially found the truck's appearance underwhelming before the facelift a couple of years ago, the current adaptation is both sporty and elegant. In terms of capability, the truck is more than sufficient for my needs as a househusband and small business owner. Overall, I would say that the Honda Ridgeline is truly a gentleman's pickup.

If you're looking to replace your Chevy Colorado, consider the Ridgeline RTS. It's a great option with impressive loan capacity and can tow up to 1,000 more pounds. The bed is a foot shorter, but it's taller and doesn't have any wheel wells in the way. I used to only drive American trucks, but after trying out the Ridgeline as a rental, I was impressed. It took me a while to get used to the different look, but I ended up really liking it. I have had some minor interior problems, but overall, I really enjoy driving this truck.

Our experience was almost the same as Stephen Zimney's on 12/19/17. We purchased a 2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E from Findlay Honda, Las Vegas in January 2018. I finally convinced my partner that Honda was a great choice. However, we noticed air noise from the driver's side front window when we got the truck up to highway speed (65). It was as though the window was open a crack. Although there was only a little bit of noise coming from the front right window, we thought it was ridiculous to have wind noise on a brand new vehicle. We took the vehicle back to the dealer to get it fixed and they ended up replacing a trim panel and the rubber gasket on the driver's side door/window. Unfortunately, the air noise was worse and it started at around 40mph and got louder the faster we drove. During our next trip to the dealer, we were basically told to deal with it because 'it's a truck'. Frustrated, we kept the music level up pretty high to mask the noise. We finally took it in again and were told the noise was inherent with the vehicle. They said they drove a NEW 2020 Ridgeline and heard the SAME noise! Words to the wise: Be aware that unless you're deaf in your left ear or always have the music turned up loud, you'll probably be hearing wind noise. Do your test drive in the actual vehicle you're buying, make sure the radio is turned off and get up to highway speed. In conclusion, we appreciate your attention to this matter, Honda. We hope that you can address this issue in future models.

UPDATED 3/20/17: Hi there! I still really like the vehicle, but there are a few things that have left me a bit disappointed. While acceleration is good when you really step on the pedal, low end responsiveness in day to day driving is a bit weak. I've also found that the transmission never seems to be in the gear I want, which can make precise control of speed difficult. It would be great if there was a manual mode or a performance mode to flip the computer to a more aggressive dynamic, but unfortunately the only option is a lone button to downshift to D4. On the bright side, steering/handling remains a Honda strength and is exceptional, as the vehicle steers like a car. It also rides like a Honda, which is to say a bit on the stiff side, but tuning makes it handle great on uneven terrain and it's definitely a worthwhile tradeoff. Storage is fantastic - you can even fit a golf bag under the rear seat, and the rear trunk and bed are both wide and useful. However, I have to admit that I'm not a fan of the touch screen interface. Even after 6 months, I still get lost at times as it's not very intuitive. The E trim also states that it has a The interior lights could use some improvement as they are weak and narrow, making it difficult to see a large portion of the storage areas at night. However, the power rear sliding window and sunroof work great, and the mirror defroster works efficiently in less than a minute. The front seat headrests are poorly positioned and lean too far forward, but the HVAC is strong and heats and cools quickly, with easy-to-use controls. The front ground clearance is more like a light SUV than a truck, but the front air dam is made of flexible rubber instead of hard plastic, which means it can bend instead of breaking if scraped against the ground. The USB ports only work with the car in ACC or ON, which can be inconvenient. However, the spare tire is located in the trunk and away from the elements, which is a nice design feature from Honda. The rear camera works well and has three top-down viewing angles to choose from, making it easy to hitch up a trailer. The vehicle tows well and can easily pull a 2500 lb boat. The driver assist technology is semi-useful, but the lane keeper feature can drive the car for you on level pavement, even around moderate curves. However, it doesn't work well on sloped pavement as it drifts all the way to the line before correcting. Overall, the car has its pros and cons, but it's a reliable vehicle that can get the job done. The car has some great features that I find useful. The backup warning of side traffic works great and has great range, which helps when backing out of spots where it's hard to see, or if you're not paying attention. It actually helped me avoid a jogger wearing black at dusk when backing out of driveway one night! The adaptive cruise is probably the single most useful feature, which actually works. However, I would like to see more configuration options on distance from preceding vehicle. The blind spot detection works but is not very useful. The road departure feature is not very helpful as it comes on after you're already heading into the ditch (i.e. too late). Overall, after 6 months, I've lowered my opinion of the vehicle slightly due to it being advertised as a

Nice ride! It's peppy and smooth. Although I don't like the shifting buttons, they're not very intuitive. I found it baffling that turning the car off disconnects the phone and the accessories don't stay on. On the bright side, it gets good mileage.

I chose Honda because of their reputation for building reliable and quality vehicles. However, I have grown to regret my decision. Although the idea of the Ridgeline is great, with plenty of storage and roomy front and rear seats, I have had some issues with the fit and finish of the vehicle. Unfortunately, my Ridgeline has a problem with the doors not lining up with the surrounding body panels, which has caused water leakage. Despite this, I must say that the engine runs smoothly and I find it quite comfortable, even at my height of 6'2

On November 17, 2017, we purchased a brand new 2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E, VIN 5FPYK3F75JB007572, for a cash price of $42,560.00 from Buerkle Honda. Despite the initial excitement, we noticed an air noise coming from the driver's side front window as soon as we hit 45 mph. We immediately contacted the dealer and scheduled an appointment with their warranty manager. During the visit on November 24, 2017, a technician test drove the vehicle and heard the noise. They identified the problem as a trim panel on the driver's side door and replaced it. Although the noise seemed to have disappeared, it returned as soon as we drove off the lot. Over the next week, my wife drove the vehicle to work and back, and the noise persisted, even at low speeds. After conducting our own tests with a sound meter, we contacted Buerkle again and scheduled another appointment with the warranty manager on December 12, 2017. During this visit, the technician confirmed that the noise was still present and informed us that it was inherent in the vehicle. He even let my wife test drive another new Ridgeline, which also had the same issue. Despite our disappointment, we appreciate the honesty of the technician and the dealership. We will consider writing to Honda to address this issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter. After numerous attempts to address the issues with my Honda vehicle, I received a call from North American Honda on 1-8-2018 at 1:16 p.m. Central Standard Time. During the call, the representative acknowledged my concerns and stated that the issue was with Honda's design and engineering. While the air conditioning was initially not functioning, it was promptly repaired by the dealer. However, there have been ongoing issues with the vehicle suddenly flashing a warning to brake while driving on flat, smooth, dry, paved roads at 55 mph. Despite taking it back to the dealer, the issue persists. As a confident Honda customer, I trust that this matter will be resolved in a timely and satisfactory manner.
