Chrysler Town and country problems

The Chrysler Town & Country is a minivan that was manufactured and marketed by Chrysler from 1990 to the 2016 model years. The third Chrysler minivan introduced in North America, the Town & Country adopted its nameplate from the flagship Chrysler station wagon line, adopting its exterior woodgrain trim as a design feature for several generations.

Marketed as the flagship of the Chrysler minivan line, five generations of the Town & Country were slotted above the extended-wheelbase Dodge Grand Caravan and Plymouth Grand Voyager. For 2017, Chrysler retired the nameplate, with sixth-generation Chrysler-division minivans becoming the Chrysler Pacifica. After the 2016 model year, Chrysler marked the sale of its 12 millionth minivan (under all three nameplates). Produced almost continuously for 75 years (with the exception of World War II and 1989), the Town & Country nameplate is the longest-produced Chrysler; its longevity is second only to the Chevrolet Suburban in worldwide automotive history.

Chrysler assembled the first three generations of the model line in its Saint Louis Assembly facility (Fenton, Missouri). The fourth and fifth-generation Town & Country were produced by Chrysler Canada by Windsor Assembly (Windsor, Ontario).

    Vehicle year: 2004

Hi there! I've owned three minivans since 1994, and I'm ready to switch things up. However, I have to say that my current vehicle has been incredibly reliable with no repairs needed and only one brake pad change. The only issue I've had is with brake dust, and while the mileage of 21-22 could be better, I haven't experienced any other problems. Compared to earlier Dodge models, this one has less sway and a more reliable transmission. Thanks for listening!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. It's been a great ride so far, with amazing acceleration and handling. However, I did have to replace the transmission twice already, which can be quite expensive. Overall, I still think it's a great car!

I purchased this van with 25K miles on it and at the time I just wanted to see what American automakers had to offer. However, I have had some issues with the reliability of the vehicle. In 3 years, I've had to replace a rack & Pinion, 3 water pumps, an airbag switch, and a power window switch. Unfortunately, these problems have not been present in my previous experiences with Honda and Suzuki vehicles. This has led me to decide that this will be my first and last time buying an American vehicle. However, I must say that the highway gas mileage is excellent. I went from central PA to the North Carolina Outerbanks on 2 tanks of gas. I am planning to trade this vehicle in for a Honda Odyssey at the first chance I get.

I'm really frustrated with this car. I've had to put so much money into it and it's been nothing but trouble. Unfortunately, there's nothing about this car that I find redeeming.

This is the second Town and Country I've owned and I'm happy to report that with 91,000 miles on it, it has been virtually trouble-free. The build quality is far superior to my first one (1994). Only one electronic component and one speaker have been replaced, both under warranty, but that's it for unscheduled work. The overall comfort of the ride for both the driver and passengers is what makes this vehicle a pleasure to drive. Long trips are a breeze in this vehicle.

I had a '98 Town & Country and made the mistake of upgrading to a 2002 model, expecting it to be better. Unfortunately, both vans had issues with the air conditioning system, resulting in a moldy odor. Despite my complaints, Chrysler denied any issues with the smell. Additionally, both vans experienced problems with the ignition cylinders, leaving me stranded on four separate occasions. The 2002 model only has 53,000 miles, but the numerous repairs have made it feel like it has 153,000 miles. I have had to pay for several expensive repairs, including the replacement of the passenger window motor ($400), ignition cylinder twice ($389), damaged wires in the crankshaft harness due to heat exposure manifold ($400), and replacement of the rack & pinion ($1,000). I have also had to replace the heater blower ($239), fix cracks in the canister hose ($130), replace the battery twice, replace the brakes, and replace the serpentine belt twice, as well as the sliding door latch. Despite these issues, I remain confident in my ability to handle any challenges that come my way.

I recently purchased a used van for my wife, which has clocked over 100,000 miles. Fortunately, we have not encountered any major issues with it. It is incredibly comfortable and we are very pleased with our purchase. We would definitely consider buying another one in the future.

This is the best car I have ever owned! The electrical contacts for the seats and window locks have a slight glitch, and as very tall people, we would appreciate a little more leg room on the driver's side. However, I have been absolutely thrilled with the handling and performance of this vehicle. In fact, my oldest son took a defensive driving class with the local Sheriff's Dept, where we had to provide our own vehicle for the course. The Sheriff instructor told us that this was an excellent vehicle that handled far beyond their expectations. Overall, it's a great vehicle!
