Chrysler Town and country problems

The Chrysler Town & Country is a minivan that was manufactured and marketed by Chrysler from 1990 to the 2016 model years. The third Chrysler minivan introduced in North America, the Town & Country adopted its nameplate from the flagship Chrysler station wagon line, adopting its exterior woodgrain trim as a design feature for several generations.
Marketed as the flagship of the Chrysler minivan line, five generations of the Town & Country were slotted above the extended-wheelbase Dodge Grand Caravan and Plymouth Grand Voyager. For 2017, Chrysler retired the nameplate, with sixth-generation Chrysler-division minivans becoming the Chrysler Pacifica. After the 2016 model year, Chrysler marked the sale of its 12 millionth minivan (under all three nameplates). Produced almost continuously for 75 years (with the exception of World War II and 1989), the Town & Country nameplate is the longest-produced Chrysler; its longevity is second only to the Chevrolet Suburban in worldwide automotive history.
Chrysler assembled the first three generations of the model line in its Saint Louis Assembly facility (Fenton, Missouri). The fourth and fifth-generation Town & Country were produced by Chrysler Canada by Windsor Assembly (Windsor, Ontario).

Vehicle year: 2014
The car is great for long trips and gets excellent gas mileage, especially on the highway. However, the navigation system could use some improvement as the passenger cannot type in a destination while the vehicle is in motion. The unit is a Garmin and is a few years out of date technology-wise. Updating the maps costs around $150 if done by yourself or about $300 if done by the dealer. The car came with Kumo tires, which we found to be of poor quality. Despite this, we managed to get 65k miles out of them before the sidewall cracked. We would recommend getting different tires if purchasing again. After driving 180,000 miles in 5 years, we still love the car. The only major issue we had was with the oil sensor, which had to be replaced twice. The second time, the part was on national backorder, so it took over a week to get the part. Unfortunately, Chrysler did not cover the repeated repair. We recently had to replace the catalytic converter at 196k miles, which was expensive but only cost two months of car payments for a new vehicle. The gas mileage improved slightly with the new converters, about 27 mph on the highway. We are trying to make this a moon car, i.e. over 248k miles. The car has been to all lower 48 states at least once and most of them twice. Our mechanic says the car should go to about 300k. At 265k miles, we decided to trade the vehicle in for a new Pacifica due to the engine developing a clicking noise, needing new cat converters, brakes, and tires.

Hi there! I noticed that you've owned both Honda and Toyota vans in the last 4 years. I just wanted to let you know that I think the Chrysler T&C is a great option as well! In fact, I believe that feature for feature, the T&C surpasses both of them, and at a price that is thousands less. While the ride and interior environment may not be sporty, it is definitely very comfortable - which is exactly what you want in a van, right? If the 2010 version of the T&C fixes many of the earlier years' problems, then I'm sure this van will be in your family for a long time to come!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I understand that you're looking to improve your vehicle's mileage, but it's important to keep in mind that it's a people hauler. I wanted to share my experience with a similar vehicle - we owned a Town & Country before and it lasted us up to 150k miles with only a few minor repairs. However, with our current vehicle, we've noticed that it's using a bit more oil than we expected. After doing some research, it seems that this is a common issue with the 3.8 motor, which is a shame because the 3.3 motor was more reliable in this regard. Just something to keep in mind - you may need to add a quart of oil every 2 or 3k miles after hitting 44k. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

The Town and Country LXI is a fantastic minivan that is both reliable and spacious. It's incredibly comfortable and has that extra pick up you need on the highways. The gas mileage is decent, averaging around 18 in the city and 24 on the highway. I would definitely recommend this van to anyone looking for a stylish and roomy option.

Vehicle year: 2003
Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share with you our experience with our van. We purchased it brand new back in 2003 and it has been an amazing vehicle for us. It has all the bells and whistles, including a DVD system, power everything, and leather seats. We've put almost 200,000 miles on it and have had very few issues. We only had to replace the brakes once and recently had to replace the water pump, which only cost us $120. Other than that, we just put fuel in it and go! The fit and finish is still great, and the leather seats are still in perfect condition and very comfortable. The only issue we've had is with the left side power sliding door, but it still opens manually with a little effort. We've been getting about 19 MPG, which is pretty good for a vehicle of this size. Thanks for listening to our story!

The vehicle has experienced multiple issues, including front window malfunctions, power steering noise, side door malfunction, brake light issues, and battery problems. Despite four service trips for the power steering noise and two service trips for each of the other issues, the problems persist. The quality of the vehicle is subpar, and the dealership's service has been unsatisfactory. It is recommended to consider purchasing a Japanese van instead of this vehicle. The dealership's suggestion to purchase an extended warranty raises concerns about the reliability of the vehicle.

The 3.6L engine may have less power than the 4.0L, but it delivers a smoother performance. However, I still prefer the 4.0L engine. This vehicle is perfect for long trips with kids, thanks to the essential rear DVD. The gas mileage is not too bad, averaging at 19.5. I particularly like the (faux) wood trim and the soft leather accents on the seats. The transmission is smooth and shifts well. I also prefer the styling of this version from the front compared to the newer models. On the downside, all of the power door motors are loud, but they work fine. The navigation system is not user-friendly, with no touch screen and a rotor dial for all input. Additionally, there is no rear button for the tailgate, and there is much less cupholder and usable storage space. However, these issues were resolved in the '08 and up models.

My friend and I rented a van for a week-long road trip from the Midwest to California. The van was quite comfortable, but I would rate it 2 stars for two specific reasons. Firstly, it didn't switch gears smoothly at times, even though it only had 40,000 miles on it. I made the mistake of buying a car that doesn't switch gears smoothly, and I don't think it's worth your money. Secondly, my friend's fiancé was road tripping with the same minivan (similar mileage) to Florida with some buddies, and their alternator blew on the way back. However, we loved the stow and go seats and the technology in the van, although I didn't love the way the steering wheel technological controls were set up. Overall, it lasted us on our trip and was a smooth ride for the most part. However, I would recommend a new Toyota Sienna or a Honda Odyssey (which my parents used to own) for the average person as a better investment.

I just traded in my 2003 T&C with 122,000 miles on it. Despite the negative reviews this model has received over the years, this van served me well for 11 years. I only had it serviced once for anything other than normal maintenance and oil changes. The leather interior is still in excellent shape and the exterior held up well too. However, I would not recommend buying this van used due to some issues I experienced such as the back hatch falling at inopportune times, failing power windows, and a wonky transmission. Additionally, the gas mileage was not great.

I recently purchased this car and put new tires on it, as well as changing the oil. Now it rides great and runs pretty well. It's really cute and fun to drive. Plus, I can still afford to buy a new engine if this one fails.
