The Chrysler Town & Country is a minivan that was manufactured and marketed by Chrysler from 1990 to the 2016 model years. The third Chrysler minivan introduced in North America, the Town & Country adopted its nameplate from the flagship Chrysler station wagon line, adopting its exterior woodgrain trim as a design feature for several generations.

Marketed as the flagship of the Chrysler minivan line, five generations of the Town & Country were slotted above the extended-wheelbase Dodge Grand Caravan and Plymouth Grand Voyager. For 2017, Chrysler retired the nameplate, with sixth-generation Chrysler-division minivans becoming the Chrysler Pacifica. After the 2016 model year, Chrysler marked the sale of its 12 millionth minivan (under all three nameplates). Produced almost continuously for 75 years (with the exception of World War II and 1989), the Town & Country nameplate is the longest-produced Chrysler; its longevity is second only to the Chevrolet Suburban in worldwide automotive history.

Chrysler assembled the first three generations of the model line in its Saint Louis Assembly facility (Fenton, Missouri). The fourth and fifth-generation Town & Country were produced by Chrysler Canada by Windsor Assembly (Windsor, Ontario).

Common 2006 Chrysler Town and country problems

The 2006 Chrysler Town and Country is a popular minivan known for its comfortable seats, low ownership costs, and cargo space. However, it has some common problems that owners have reported, particularly with the steering system, seat motors, and sliding doors.

One of the most common issues is power steering system leaks, which tend to occur around 70,000 miles. The rack and pinion is a weak spot where seals often fail, and replacing the assembly can cost around $1,000. This problem is often caused by the wear and tear of the vehicle's components over time.

Another common problem is worn-out seat motors, which can fail around 90,000 miles. The seat motors wear out with excessive use, and replacing them can cost around $450. This issue can be particularly frustrating for owners who use the seat motors frequently, such as those who transport multiple passengers or use the van for ride-sharing services.

Power sliding door problems are also common in the 2006 Town and Country, with many cars experiencing issues after 100,000 miles. The sliding motor can break as the van ages, and replacing it can cost around $600. This problem can be especially inconvenient for owners who rely on the sliding doors for easy access to the van's cargo space.

The 2006 Town and Country has also had some recalls, including issues with the windshield wiper motor, glass, towing hitch, and air bags. These recalls are typically addressed by the dealership or a certified mechanic, and owners are usually notified by mail or email.

Despite these common problems, the 2006 Chrysler Town and Country is generally considered a reliable vehicle, with a properly maintained van able to last around 200,000 miles. Regular annual maintenance costs are affordable, and most 2006 Town and Country vans will have over 100,000 miles, so buyers should be prepared to replace wheel hubs, liftgate lock actuators, and the A/C compressor as needed.

In summary, the 2006 Chrysler Town and Country is a reliable vehicle with some common problems that owners should be aware of. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help ensure that the van lasts as long as possible and provides reliable transportation for years to come.

Negative 2006 Chrysler Town and country car reviews

If you search the Internet for town and country power steering, you may find that the rack and pinion, as well as the pump, may need to be replaced. Unfortunately, this can be quite costly. It is worth noting that there have been many complaints about this issue, and some people believe that there should be a recall.

  2. Louvenia Gottlieb 2025-02-04

The T&C base model is impressively equipped and offers great value at only 16.8k (including tax and lic) out the door. Compared to similarly priced Honda or Toyota models, the T&C saves you up to 10K. My wife and I are thrilled with the comfort, ride, and overall feel of the vehicle. Plus, the base model comes with many features that are optional on other brands, such as remote entry, tinted glass, smart airbag in the front seat, grocery hooks, hidden pullout drawer, lumbar support, car mats, and sliding door warning. These features alone would have cost me another 1K on other brands. As someone who previously owned 3 Hondas, I can confidently say that my first Chrysler has exceeded my expectations. If you're willing to negotiate, you can definitely come out as a winner!

  3. Alvis Mosciski 2024-07-08

Although the car was bought brand new in 2006, it has unfortunately experienced several issues since 2009. These issues include burning oil, a potential blown head gasket, a hairline crack in the gas tank, malfunctioning headlights, a non-functioning driver window, and faulty rear passenger door locks. While these problems are certainly frustrating, they are not uncommon in this model of car. It is important to address these issues promptly to ensure the car is safe and reliable. With proper attention and maintenance, this car can still provide reliable transportation for years to come.

  4. Wyatt Ledner 2024-06-19

At 42,000 miles and 15 alignments, no shop could get the front end correct, and the van would eat a full set of tires every 10,000 miles. Additionally, the van would lose a quart of oil every 3,000 miles, and Chrysler's response was that it was normal and no repair was needed, just check the oil once a week. The power seat base was replaced twice due to broken motors, and the plastic interior would break easily. One time, a sharp stop caused the seat belt to cut. At 30,000 miles, I had to replace shocks and struts. The rear power door motor started to work every now and then. So, I finally got rid of it and will never own another Chrysler product.

I had a 99 T&C and it had the most comfortable seats. However, this one is not as comfortable for short people. The seats are set too high and are not as soft as the 99. My short legs barely reach the floor, making it pretty uncomfortable. Additionally, it has poor acceleration, which can be a bit frustrating.

Hello! Thank you for considering this vehicle. I wanted to share my experience with you. I have had some issues with the airbag light coming on, and unfortunately, I wasn't aware that this meant the airbags wouldn't deploy in an accident. I have been working with a dealer to resolve the issue, but it has been a bit of a challenge. I have been waiting for a part since April 2010, and unfortunately, calling the Chrysler consumer hotline hasn't been very helpful. They say they will check on things and call back, but I haven't heard from them. I'm feeling a bit frustrated, but I'm hopeful that the issue will be resolved soon. Thank you for your understanding.

  2. Zachariah Torp 2025-02-02

This is my second Town and Country minivan that I've owned. It's an excellent vehicle that is priced right, handles well, is very versatile and reliable. I've owned imports such as Honda and Toyota, but I think they are way overrated. I had nothing but problems with those vehicles. Keep up the good work, Daimler-Chrysler!

  3. Koby Kub 2025-01-21

I needed a family vehicle after a job transfer to the US. Initially, I was hesitant to consider Chrysler, but after testing numerous second-hand Honda Odysseys, Toyota Siennas, and Chrysler T&Cs, I found that the T&C was the best fit for me. It had a great look, was comfortable, fully loaded, and had a reasonable price. I enjoy driving it more and more with each ride, whether it's long distance, camping, or just around town. I purchased it at 20K miles, and it now has just under 50K miles. While I will need to do the brakes soon myself, I did have an issue with the water pump during a trip to Canada and had to resort to a dealership. There have been a few minor issues with the right sliding door, but overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

  4. Gardner Prohaska 2025-01-09

This is the first mini van I ever bought, and it won't be the last. I looked at several other mini vans before buying the Town and Country. Even though they look somewhat alike, I really like the fold and go seating. That was a big selling point for me.

  5. Kennedy Smith 2024-11-20

Your new Town & Country Touring Stow 'n- Go sounds like an amazing minivan! It's great to hear that it has lots of extra features that now come standard on this vehicle. It's also wonderful to know that it rides well with very little road noise. It seems like it's perfect for your activities, including Golden Retriever Rescue. It's fantastic that it holds two travel dog crates when the third row seating is stowed away, and there's plenty of room for all of the items you have to carry for the dogs. It's also great that you chose this vehicle for the rear A/C for the dogs. They must be so comfortable! Thank you for sharing your experience with me.
