2016 Chrysler Town and country problems

The Chrysler Town & Country is a minivan that was manufactured and marketed by Chrysler from 1990 to the 2016 model years. The third Chrysler minivan introduced in North America, the Town & Country adopted its nameplate from the flagship Chrysler station wagon line, adopting its exterior woodgrain trim as a design feature for several generations.

Marketed as the flagship of the Chrysler minivan line, five generations of the Town & Country were slotted above the extended-wheelbase Dodge Grand Caravan and Plymouth Grand Voyager. For 2017, Chrysler retired the nameplate, with sixth-generation Chrysler-division minivans becoming the Chrysler Pacifica. After the 2016 model year, Chrysler marked the sale of its 12 millionth minivan (under all three nameplates). Produced almost continuously for 75 years (with the exception of World War II and 1989), the Town & Country nameplate is the longest-produced Chrysler; its longevity is second only to the Chevrolet Suburban in worldwide automotive history.

Chrysler assembled the first three generations of the model line in its Saint Louis Assembly facility (Fenton, Missouri). The fourth and fifth-generation Town & Country were produced by Chrysler Canada by Windsor Assembly (Windsor, Ontario).

Common 2016 Chrysler Town and country problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2016 Chrysler Town and Country, several common problems have been reported:

  1. UConnect Frozen with Blank Screen:
    • The UConnect infotainment system in the 2016 Chrysler Town and Country is known to boot into a blank screen, freeze, become unresponsive to touch, or reboot randomly. This issue can be frustrating for drivers, affecting the usability of the entertainment system and potentially causing inconvenience during driving.
  2. AHR Randomly Deploys:
    • Active head restraints in some Chrysler vehicles, including the 2016 Town and Country, have been reported to deploy randomly. This mechanical breakdown within the restraint system poses a safety risk to occupants, potentially causing unexpected deployment and leading to injuries.
  3. Valve Stem Corrosion:
    • The use of aluminum valve stems in the tire pressure monitoring systems of early models, like the 2016 Town and Country, has led to issues with corrosion. Corrosion of the aluminum stem and metal cap can impact tire pressure monitoring accuracy and potentially result in tire-related problems.
  4. TIPM Electrical Problems:
    • The Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) in Fiat-Chrysler vehicles, including the 2016 Town and Country, serves as a command center for electrical functions. However, reports indicate that TIPM failures are common, leading to issues like starting problems, engine stalls, and intermittent electrical failures.
  5. Third Row Seats Recall:
    • Some 2016 Chrysler Town and Country models were recalled due to improperly torqued nuts on the third-row seatback. This issue could result in the seatback not holding in place, especially in a crash scenario, posing a safety risk to passengers.

These problems highlight various issues that owners of the 2016 Chrysler Town and Country have faced, ranging from entertainment system malfunctions to safety concerns related to seatback integrity. Addressing these issues promptly and through proper maintenance can help mitigate potential risks and ensure a safer and more reliable driving experience.

Negative 2016 Chrysler Town and country car reviews

  1. Mckenna Bosco 2025-01-01

Dear Chrysler, I really appreciate your efforts to support local dealerships and mechanic shops, and I hope this is true. I have been a car enthusiast for over 20 years, owning various vehicles from low rider trucks to a custom modified turbocharged Honda Civic, and most recently a 1997 BMW Z3 2.8 L Convertible. I take pride in being able to perform basic maintenance tasks such as changing my oil and fixing things within my ability. However, I recently encountered an issue with my 2015 Chrysler Town and Country Mini van, and despite my best efforts, I was unable to check my transmission fluid and received the P0704 code. It's disappointing that your corporation has decided that only dealership employees are qualified to perform this task, and that DIYers like myself are not trusted to even locate the transmission fluid spout. Additionally, it's frustrating that something as simple as checking transmission fluid has become so complicated. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Best regards, a concerned mom in a mini van.

  2. Dane Schowalter 2024-11-15

After driving my 2015 Chrysler Town and Country for 83,000 miles, the check engine light came on and my mechanic diagnosed a faulty transmission pump. Unfortunately, the cost to repair is $5,000. Interestingly, my mechanic informed me that there was a recall on the make and model for the same issue, but Chrysler claims that my car is not included in the recall due to its manufacturing location. Despite this setback, I am determined to resolve this issue and have filed a complaint with the NHTSA.

  3. Carlos Dibbert 2024-09-18

Our Chrysler Town and Country, purchased in June 2015, has experienced several issues. Despite multiple visits to the garage, the engine light remains on and the diagnostic tests have not identified any problems. We are confident that there is an underlying issue that needs to be addressed. We are disappointed with our experience so far, but we remain hopeful that a solution can be found.

  4. Jessie Koch 2024-07-10

I purchased the t&c touring and absolutely loved it during the test drive. Unfortunately, after 5 months, I had to replace 3 tires and 3 months later, it required an alignment. Additionally, I encountered some issues with the automatic sliding doors. Despite my efforts to fix it, no auto shop has been able to identify the problem. The gas mileage could be better and the transmission occasionally shifts hard. While it may not be the quietest ride, the interior is stunning and the features are impressive. Overall, the quality could be improved, but it still has a lot of great features to offer.

  5. Niko Grant 2024-05-15

I noticed that my LED running lights are going out, which is frustrating. However, I have not lost a bulb in my tail light yet. It seems like they are more resistant to vibration and have a longer burning time, which is great. Although, it does make me wonder if this was planned, like buying American. What do you think?

Positive 2016 Chrysler Town and country car reviews

  1. Darrin Conn 2024-11-20

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I recently started driving a 2019 Pacifica, which is my sixth Chrysler minivan. It's actually my first brand new one, and I have to say that it's been performing beautifully. We decided to trade up mainly because of the age of our previous vehicle.

  2. Kristian Connelly 2024-11-16

The Chrysler Town and Country is a great van. It's even better than the Honda. I used to have a Honda and it was okay, but not as great as the Chrysler. The Chrysler has more features than the Honda, and I would definitely buy another Chrysler.

  3. Noble Lehner 2024-11-02

I'm so glad to hear that you love how it handles and what it can carry! It sounds like you had a great experience loading a digital piano in AZ using the two sliding doors and keeping the weight loaded on center. I'm happy to hear that you had no issues getting your dad's piano to NC!

  4. Mac McCullough 2024-09-21

I can tell that you really enjoyed your 2012 Town & Country, and it's great to hear that you're finding the 2016 Town & Country Touring Anniversary Edition to be fantastic!

  5. Kayleigh Shanahan 2024-09-01

This car is a reliable choice. As someone who frequently tows a fifth-wheel, I appreciate the permanent cap on the bed and the ability to downshift and catch up on grades. While the cruise control could be improved, it is not a deal breaker. The mileage is not quite what was advertised, but it is still better than other pickups. Overall, this is a decent car. It is unfortunate that they no longer offer this model, as I would consider purchasing it after my lease is up. Although the trim style is unknown, it has many features such as leather and a tow package, making it a great choice. The lack of an easy way to tie the tailgate when carrying or hauling items longer than 8' is frustrating, but a simple solution such as an eye-hook or slot inside the rear gate could be added. I am even considering drilling and threading an eye-hook myself.
