Ram problems
Ram Trucks, stylized as RAM and formerly known as the Ram Truck Division (of Chrysler), is an American brand of light to mid-weight trucks and other commercial vehicles, and a division of Stellantis (previously Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). It was established in a spin-off from Dodge in 2010 using the name of the Ram pickup line of trucks. Ram Trucks' logo was originally used as Dodge's logo. Ram 1500 "Classic" trucks are made at the Warren Truck Plant in Warren, Michigan, United States, and at the Saltillo plant in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. New series Ram 1500 pickups are made at Sterling Heights Assembly in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Since its inception, the brand has used the slogan "Guts. Glory. Ram."
Background
Prior to the 1970s, Dodge had maintained a separate marque for trucks, Fargo Trucks, primarily for use outside the United States. After that point, all trucks made by Chrysler were distributed under the Dodge marque.
In June 2009, when Chrysler emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Fiat Group received a 20% stake in Chrysler Group LLC and Sergio Marchionne was appointed CEO, replacing CEO Robert Nardelli. On June 10 that year, substantially all of Chrysler's assets were sold to "New Chrysler," organized as Chrysler Group LLC. The federal government provided support for the deal with US$8 billion in financing at near 21%. Under CEO Marchionne, "World Class Manufacturing" or WCM, a system of thorough manufacturing quality, was introduced and several products re-launched with quality and luxury. The Ram, Jeep, Dodge, SRT and Chrysler divisions were separated to focus on their own identity and brands.
Ram Trucks was established as a division of Chrysler in 2010, as a spin-off from Dodge, and using the name of the Dodge Ram line of pickups that is now sold under the Ram banner. According to Chrysler, the Ram Trucks brand will concentrate on "real truck customers," rather than casual truck buyers who buy trucks for image or style.
The Fiat Ducato cargo van design has been adopted and is sold as the Ram ProMaster in North American markets, filling the gap created when Daimler ended production of the Dodge Sprinter in 2008. The goal was to increase truck sales "from today's 280,000 to 415,000 by 2014."
Executives at Chrysler have stated their intention to compete in the semi-trailer truck category with Ram, a possibility that is aided by Fiat's ownership of Iveco and an already available network of Dodge dealers. Ram trucks are marketed separately from Dodge cars; former Ram Division President Fred Diaz stated, "Ram trucks are not a Dodge model. Ram will always be 'vinned' (Vehicle Identification Number) as a Ram. We need to continue to market as Ram so Dodge can have a different brand identity: hip, cool, young, energetic. That will not fit the campaign for truck buyers. The two should have distinct themes."
On July 21, 2011, Fiat bought the Chrysler shares held by the U.S. Treasury, increasing its stake in the company.
In April 2013, Diaz left Ram Trucks to serve as vice president of Nissan's divisional sales and marketing. He was replaced by Reid Bigland.
Fiat Chrysler formed as a new corporate entity in January 2014.
In August 2014, Ram Trucks CEO Reid Bigland was tapped to lead the Alfa Romeo brand in North America. It was announced that the new head of the Ram Trucks brand would be longtime Chrysler employee Robert Hegbloom, who joined Chrysler in 1986 and had been a director for Dodge. In October 2018, Bigland was promoted to CEO of Ram Trucks. Shortly thereafter, he discovered that the division had been misreporting sales figures and turned over that information to the U.S. government for investigation. Allegedly, FCA cut his bonuses in retaliation, which resulted in Bigland filing a whistleblower lawsuit against FCA. In March 2020, Bigland announced his resignation.
Stellantis formed in 2021 when Fiat Chrysler merged with the French PSA Group.
The Ram brand logo features the head of a ram, formerly the logo used by Dodge.

Common Ram problems
RAM trucks, like any other vehicles, can have their fair share of problems. Here are some of the most common issues reported by owners of RAM trucks:
- Engine Problems: RAM trucks have been plagued by engine problems, ranging from moderate to extremely serious. These problems include exhaust manifold failures, compression issues, leaks, stalls, cylinder head malfunctions, and more. If you notice anything unusual with your engine, it's best to get it inspected as soon as possible.
- Transmission Issues: Transmission issues are common in RAM trucks, resulting in problems shifting, jerking, slow acceleration, clunking sounds while shifting, and loud whines and howling coming from the transmission. These issues can significantly impact the drivability of the truck and should be addressed immediately.
- Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) Defects: Problems with the TIPM have been a common thread across Chrysler vehicles, including RAM trucks. The TIPM is the power distribution center of a vehicle, and when it's defective, it can impact several other critical systems. Some of the most common RAM truck problems with the TIPM include stalling, power window failure, fuel pump issues, doors locking/unlocking randomly, cooling fan failure, and more.
- Faulty Batteries: Car batteries should ideally last three to four years. However, owners of RAM trucks have reported issues with faulty batteries, which may need to be replaced more frequently than expected.
- Body Structure Issues: Body structure issues, such as tailgates falling open at random due to faulty lock mechanisms, bumper holes drilled too large, defective painting with bubbles underneath, rusting, especially on bolts and bumpers, and rotting of the outer wheelhouse and upper wheel arch area of the bed, have been reported in RAM trucks. These issues can compromise vehicle safety and should be addressed promptly.
- Coolant Leaks: Multiple coolant leaks have been reported in RAM trucks, especially in model years 2009-2014. These leaks can be difficult to locate and may cause the engine to overheat, leading to more expensive repairs if left unattended.
- Exhaust Manifold Bolts Break: Exhaust manifold bolts breaking is a common issue in RAM trucks, particularly in models with V6 and V8 engines. This problem can lead to expensive repairs, as owners may need to replace manifold gaskets.
- Electrical Issues: Like most modern pickup trucks, RAM trucks rely on complex electronics, which can be prone to issues. The Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) can cause malfunctions in various systems, such as automatic climate control, coolant fans, power windows, and even airbags. Defective TRW crash sensors can also cause airbags to fail to deploy in the event of a crash, posing a significant safety risk.
If you own a RAM truck and are experiencing any of these issues, it's essential to address them promptly to ensure your safety and prevent further damage to your vehicle.

It took every ounce of strength I had to steer it to the side of the road. This could’ve resulted in a horrible crash. This is deadly and should be recalled. The service power steering light came on. The dealer wants $3000 to replace the electronic steering system.

Chrysler dealer states parts are "on back order" and have been for over 6 months due to"re-engineering" issues. Talked to several other Ram owners with same problem to hear they understand Stelantis has no intention of re-engineering due to cost and possible recall responsibility. This is a real safety issue, why has a recall not been initialized?

- Summary: [XXX] I got a check engine light and associated ABS and traction control light. Roads were dry and braking seemed fine. Lights eventually went out. Service department at dealership said sometimes moisture will cause this. No codes. Between May and October this problem has become repetitive and has been in the dealership service department multiple times. Codes show only when lights are on. Wheel speed sensor has been replaced (twice), but did not solve problem. Other features affected when these lights are on: 4WD will not engage, cruise control inop, rear collision sensor inoperative. My truck has been in the shop (dealership at Lithia in Anchorage, AK) since 10 Oct. Technician has said it needs ABS module and hydraulic pump, but FCA (or Stellantis who issued service contract) will not release parts (or they are out of parts and won’t admit). Apparently Ram engineers don’t believe service tech and are having him chase an electrical problem and now hub replacement. A quick internet search and it appears thousands of Ram owners (17-18) have dealt with this problem. The mileage is just shy of 110,000 and service contract expires at 125k or Jun 25. As a consumer I’m stuck between Ram engineers, and service department at dealership (currently without vehicle). A heavy duty pickup in Alaska is useless w/o 4WD on the rapidly approaching winter. This is obviously a known problem and needs resolution.

- Summary: ABS control unit failure. Part number is 68295368AA. Dealer cannot fix problem due to no part being available. I've researched this issue online and found that they've issued 2 additional part numbers to replace the unit with, both are on backorder with the manufacturer. I managed to search online for all 3 part numbers and was able to locate one of them, the latest version actually and have ordered it. Here's the main issue. This is a well known and wide spread problem with the 2017-2018 Ram 1500 trucks, also why parts are not available at the dealer. When the ABS control unit fails, the ABS, traction control, trailer brake assist, and cruise control are INOP. This is a major safety issue while driving the vehicle and problematic when you can't easily get the problem repaired. I am out of warranty coverage as are most who have the same problem. I feel FCA should step up and do a Recall of these trucks and fix with a quality part before someone gets killed.

- VIN: 3C6UR5GL8KG
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: On June 26, 2024 during a long road trip, the vehicle lost power repeatedly in the middle of an area with no road service. It put my safety and that of my passenger at risk on the highway as losing power suddenly causes danger in fast-moving traffic causing the risk of potential collisions with other vehicles. There was no warning lamp indicating the failure would occur. To this date, the dealer has not fixed the issue. After approximately three weeks, I picked up the vehicle after it as allegedly repaired (at that time the dealer stated it was an electrical issue). The vehicle failed again not more than one-half mile from the Omak Dodge service center placing my safety at risk yet again. I managed to get the vehicle back to the service center at which time, the dealer stated after consultation with RAM technical support, that the issue was a failure in the fuel system. The dealer claims that the problem was the failure of a fuel injector/pump that caused particulate matter to contaminate the entire fuel system. Being that it was allegedly a power train failure, it was to have been covered under the power train warranty. After approximately three months of delay, the dealer stated the truck was repaired. On arriving at the dealer to pick up the truck, the dealer stated it wasn't repaired and had an exhaust issue. The truck remains at the dealer to this date, October 25, 2024. The dealer states that the exhaust issue is yet another issue with the truck that is covered under a warranty voluntarily extended to 10 years by RAM.

- Summary: Chrysler's 3.0L diesel engine have a high-pressure fuel pump with an open recall on them. A HPFP failure may introduce internally failed component debris into the fuel system and cause potential fuel starvation. In January of 2023, I attempted to remedy the situation with a RAM dealership in Aptos, California. The attached email chain shows that for 6 months, I was unable to receive parts for my 3.0L diesel engine. After a change in job opportunities, I ended up in Palmdale late November 2023, where I continued to pursue remediation at the RAM of the West Dealership in Lancaster. While I do not have a email thread on this, if you visit their store on 43226 10th St W, Lancaster, CA 93534, you find that they have an open ticket for this same recall that has been open since February 2024. I have had an open recall for 2 years now, which has prevented me from receiving a new registration sticker. My current RAM 1500, still has a sticker from 2022 despite me paying for all of my registration requirements. This has led to 3 tickets and a threat from law enforcement that they can take my truck. This has gone on long enough and I am demanded a solution.

- Summary: ABS module failure, only 63000 km had to pay $1038.19 to have it replaced at Parksville Dodge Jeep and 194.14 to read the code that we already had done at another auto shop. I have a case number [XXX]. I have sent many screen shots of other owners having problems, websites, recalls , 22v140000, 24v4150000. The ABS sensor came on our extended warranty ended in November 2023, we took it to a mechanic shop and the code C0020-01 came up (no parts only Chrysler can replace hmm that’s a problem why?)we then phoned Chrysler in Parksville and took it in and they showed same code and said needed to order part only one was in Red Deer Alberta. This is obviously an issue with this truck as there is a class action suit alleging FCA breached its warranty by using ABS and HCU modules of subpar quality known to be unfit for ordinary purpose and not disclosing this issue to customers at the time of purchase. These modules are prone to premature failure due to defective materials used in their manufacture. The lawsuit states FCA knew about the defect thru extensive pre-sale testing and numerous NHTSA complaints, there is a Technical Service Bulletin regarding the faulty ABS and HCU, despite issuing the TSB, FCA failed to issue a recall. The hearing is scheduled for December 17, 2024. We would like all costs associated with the replacement of this module paid for by Chrysler Canada. I want a recall issued for my vehicle and a cheque to reimburse me as this is clearly an issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
