2011 Chrysler Town and country problems

The Chrysler Town & Country is a minivan that was manufactured and marketed by Chrysler from 1990 to the 2016 model years. The third Chrysler minivan introduced in North America, the Town & Country adopted its nameplate from the flagship Chrysler station wagon line, adopting its exterior woodgrain trim as a design feature for several generations.

Marketed as the flagship of the Chrysler minivan line, five generations of the Town & Country were slotted above the extended-wheelbase Dodge Grand Caravan and Plymouth Grand Voyager. For 2017, Chrysler retired the nameplate, with sixth-generation Chrysler-division minivans becoming the Chrysler Pacifica. After the 2016 model year, Chrysler marked the sale of its 12 millionth minivan (under all three nameplates). Produced almost continuously for 75 years (with the exception of World War II and 1989), the Town & Country nameplate is the longest-produced Chrysler; its longevity is second only to the Chevrolet Suburban in worldwide automotive history.

Chrysler assembled the first three generations of the model line in its Saint Louis Assembly facility (Fenton, Missouri). The fourth and fifth-generation Town & Country were produced by Chrysler Canada by Windsor Assembly (Windsor, Ontario).

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-10
  • VIN: 2A4RR5DG1BR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: I wrote before about the electrical issue. My husband jumped started my car On 8/28/24. I drove down to my church for a Women's Bible Study. I was there for 2 1/2 hours. When I went to leave my car would not start. I called my son. He jump started my car for me. As I was about to leave after a few minutes my car quit running. As the car was running every electrical component on the dash was going haywire, the heater fan was going full blast, but the windows would not go up. That was irritating as it started to rain. Had to cover the windows. Left the car in parking lot. Next day after church my husband tried to start the car. The car turned over and the battery light was on. Brande new battery was put in that week, As the following we thought that might have been the problem. He jumped started the car same thing as before. We had to have the car flat bedded to the mechanic. The mechanic tested the new alternator that was just put in and said it was bad. Replaced the alternator and car ran. He wanted to see what would happen so he kept car over night. Next morning car would not start. All fuses have been checked, fuse box has been checked. Nobody can seem to figure out what is going on with this vehicle. I have spent over $2000. an to no avail. I am ready to junk this thing. Mu dad said their was a Caravan for sale I just read they have electrical issues also no way.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-23
  • VIN: 2A4RR5DG1BR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Over 2 yrs now the electrical has been haywire. In driveway the interior lights on dash lights come on and and doors lock and unlock. Driving down road on dash tells you that must put car in park to engage. Lift gate ajar. Heater turns on and off full blast front and back fans. Side doors do not work/ or work when they want to work. Battery brand new gets drained and needs to be charged 1 every month. Had alternator changed. Still does the same thing. I call this my possessed van. At my wits end. Spent much money trying to find out problem unable to locate. Changed fuses did not help. This is my second town and country. I never had a problem with my first one which was a much older model that is why I got another one. Now I am rethinking about getting another town and country. Who is going to help with all of these customer complaints with electrical issues. I am a disabled person who needs my vehicle for appointments. I cannot get stranded or break down or have a vehicle fire. I am frustrated by this company for not caring for their customers needs.

  • VIN: 2A4RR8DG3BR
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Unknown what part is at fault. The automatic sliding doors will open fully and then immediately close. The feature that is supposed to make the doors stop when they detect something does not activate. An adult's full body weight is needed to press on the door to make it stop closing. Faulty on both driver and passenger sides. Starts to happen intermittently and then constantly. Dealership claims it is a "software" issue and not applicable for bumper-to-bumper warranty. I also contacted the mopar warranty department and they also claim it is not a covered issue even though there is a serious safety risk involved. A quick google search reveals it is a common problem.

SERVICE BRAKES,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-31
  • VIN: 2A4RR8DGXBR
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: Vehicle is a 2011 Chrysler Town Country Touring L and has 68,000 miles on it. It is well maintained with no issues prior to compliant incident. While normal driving of vehicle emergency dash light system activated numerous safety warning lights i.e.: ABS, ESC, Engine light. My wife was travelling on a highway at 68 mph. Loss of drivability noted at the time included; loss of speedometer, abnormal shifting of transmission, loss of ABS and traction Control, Cruise Control and seat belt notification. The following day, I took the vehicle to repair dealership where I was notified that there was numerous codes showing up on scanner. PCM Codes included; c2200 Internal fault of ABS Module, U1110, U1120, P0501. Advised that I would lose numerous other systems not noted due to codes these included; electric rear doors inoperable while vehicle started, seat belt alarm system, rear parking system notification. Dealership advises that Chrysler company has put the sale of ABS modules part # 68089474AA on hold for over the last year, due to an Engineering review, and that no modules are available for sale. It was recommend that I "get rid of the vehicle". In doing internet searches this is a long running problem with numerous vehicles using this same ABS Module system. Due to the numerous safety systems this affects, the vehicles are unsafe without a recall to correct this manufacturer defective ABS Brake Module. I have had to setup an auxiliary GPS module to calculate speed and severely limit driving this vehicle during inclement weather. As of now normal braking remains unaffected but there. Public is at the mercy of the manufacturer as ABS modules are not for sale and have a retail value of over $1300.00 + install and dealer reprogramming. This is a severe safety issue and aligns with other current recalls of similar models with the same condition. You may contact me at anytime to discuss. I am a recently retire Chief of Police and a certified Accident Homicide Investigator.

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-02-04
  • VIN: 2A4RR6DG7BR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Fortunately able to coast to side of road on occassion. Non start condition would last between 15 minutes to days. This last event occured while turning in a busy intersection. Blocked cars and buses in all four directions on a Friday afternoon rush hour, putting ourselves and others at serious risk. There were no warning lights or anything other than a brief shudder before stalling. Roadside service called 911 first to get us out of the way. Towed to local mechanic who duplicated event and found that two separate recalls for faulty fuel pump relay was issued for other models but not our minivan. This family vehicle is now a liability if the fuel pump relay replacement is not made available to us.

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-12-30
  • VIN: 2A4RR8DG2BR
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Driving 70mph on the interstate when the engine just shuts down ( sudden engine failure ) it is only by the grace of God that it didn't result in a pile-up and injury/loss of life. One of the most fearful experiences that I have ever had happened to me. This is the 2nd instance of sudden engine failure in the past month. On each occasion, I have had the vehicle towed and the mechanics are unable to find the root cause of the problem. I now fear injury/loss of life to myself and or others. I tried calling Chrysler to no avail and i have sent a certified letter to the Chrysler CEO , hristine Feuell with no response so far. The contact stated that they paid to have their vehicle looked at by the dealer. There were unsuccessful in duplicating the issue or finding the cause or a cure. The contact was told to trade in the vehicle. The contact stated after 10 breakdowns and 7 vehicle tows this week someone finally figured out the problem being a DEFECTIVE TIPM module.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-10-21
  • VIN: 2a4rr8dg5br
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: Upon leaving work my battery (only installed for 3 months) was completely dead. After a co-worker jumped my van off I went straight to Advanced and had them check the battery. It showed something was still on/running however the keys were in my hand and absolutely nothing was on or plugged in. He went ahead and replaced my battery. The next day I went out on errands and it started fine. That evening I was taking my family out to dinner and it would not start. It would crank but not start. I put it in neutral and back into park and it did manage to start. The following morning I went out and it would only crank. It would not start and the lightening bolt symbol and check engine light came on. First we changed the throttle body sensor (as indicated by the light). It still wouldn't start. After I had it towed to a garage they said the TIPM was faulty and had caused the fuel pump to burn out. I have seen/read numerous other people saying this has happened to their vehicle as well. The exact same issues. This issue has cost me over $1,500 and I still haven't had the TIPM fixed yet. With as many complaints on the same issue there should be a recall on this since it is obviously a manufacturing issue.

Negative 2011 Chrysler Town and country car reviews

  1. Randall Anderson 2024-09-24

The minivan's handling may not be as good as some others, as it can feel quite soft and unsafe at times. However, it is worth noting that these vehicles are generally quite nice. Additionally, it is worth noting that the 'integrated' fuel pump relays can sometimes fail, and unfortunately cannot be individually replaced. However, they can be bypassed at the fuse box.

  2. Daren Dicki 2024-06-12

I recently purchased a Town and Country van brand new, but unfortunately, after only 3 months, the Heating and Air Conditioning Motor has blown. While it's winter time, thankfully it's not too cold. However, I have noticed that the van makes quite a few noises, which can be difficult to pinpoint as they seem to come from different areas on a daily basis. Additionally, the van is quite loud on freeways and has poor gas mileage. I am hesitant to take it on long trips due to the noises it makes and am concerned about what else may break in the future. One minor suggestion I have is to add cup holders to the middle doors. Overall, I feel that the price could be more reasonable given the issues with noise. Despite these challenges, I am hopeful that the van will continue to serve me well.

  3. Kenton Macejkovic 2024-06-04

This van has plenty of space and I am confident in its reliability despite some past repairs.

  4. Edmond Bradtke 2024-04-28

Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We purchased our van on January 1, 2011, and it was an exciting addition to our family. Our second son was born on February 25, 2011, and we were thrilled to have a reliable vehicle to transport our growing family. Unfortunately, we experienced our first issue on March 5, 2011, while driving home one night. Since then, our van has been at the dealership since February 19, 2013. It has been a week now, and we are still waiting for a return date. However, we are grateful that the dealership has provided us with a rental today for 5 days, and we can extend it as needed until our van is returned. Although we have had some challenges with this vehicle, we still love our Toyota with 250,000 miles, which is still going strong. Thank you again for allowing us to share our story with you.

  5. Miles Pfeffer 2024-04-04

I have experienced several malfunctions and recalls with this van, which have caused significant inconvenience and downtime. As a result, I have lost confidence in Chrysler products and will not be purchasing from them again.

I purchased my van used with 29k miles on it and have put over 71k miles on it in the past 2 years. Fortunately, the only issues I have encountered were a known engine head problem that Chrysler took care of, including extending the warranty on the redesigned head, and a flaky rear blower for the climate control system. Overall, I absolutely love this van! The engine is incredibly powerful and has excellent low-end torque. With a class 3 receiver, I can tow up to 3500lbs with no strain. The fuel efficiency is also impressive, with 20-22MPG around town and up to 29MPG on the interstate. If I use cruise control and keep my speed around 55MPH, I can even get up to 36MPG! The stow and go feature is a game changer, allowing me to transform my 7 passenger family hauler into a cargo van in just 2 minutes. The backup camera is amazing and the stereo is one of the best non-premium options I have ever seen as an OEM build. FCA really put a lot of thought into the design of this van, especially with the gorgeous internal redesign starting in 2011. The interior is spacious and comfortable, with green light bars in the ceiling that provide a nice glow at night. The handling is great, although I do wish there was an AWD option for winter weather. The acceleration is also impressive for a heavy van. My two kids have plenty of space in the middle row captains chairs, although better cup holder options would have been appreciated. There are six cup holders available up front, not including the doors, and plenty of storage, especially with stow-n-go. Overall, I highly recommend this van!I think this vehicle is one of the best values available in America today because of its price, features, performance, and versatility.

Wow, the new T&C is absolutely amazing! As a family who has owned three T&C's (05, 08, and 11), we can confidently say that this one surpasses our 08'. The exterior changes are subtle yet perfect, and the interior changes make driving this van an absolute joy. While we did have some brake issues with our 08', we are hopeful that the build quality of this new model will prove to be top-notch. We're actually going on a road trip next month and we can't wait to spend 20 hours in this beauty!

I'm glad to hear that you love your minivan! While it may not have the same performance as a sports car, it certainly offers the comfort and ride of a luxury vehicle.

This minivan is amazing! You had a 2005 Town & Country that sadly got in an accident with 160,000 on it, so you needed something else. You were in luck when you found this 2011 Town & Country Touring-L for an awesome price. You hadn't considered another minivan, but you're glad you found one. This van is more than well-equipped with everything from heated seats to a blind-spot monitor for busy roads. You would HIGHLY recommend this van to anyone in search of reliable, stylish transportation.

I bought this car used with 34k miles on it and have put 196k miles on it since then. Unfortunately, the AC has gone out and I am now considering purchasing a new vehicle. I had to replace the water pump at 134k miles, which cost $1200. Additionally, I experienced some issues with starting the car at 175k miles and had to replace the starter. The brakes wear out every 25k miles due to the size of the vehicle. Recently, I had a problem with the lift gate and the back window shattered on a cold day here in Texas! Although I am thinking of buying again, I don't really need to now that my kids are grown.
