2008 Chrysler Town and country problems

The Chrysler Town & Country is a minivan that was manufactured and marketed by Chrysler from 1990 to the 2016 model years. The third Chrysler minivan introduced in North America, the Town & Country adopted its nameplate from the flagship Chrysler station wagon line, adopting its exterior woodgrain trim as a design feature for several generations.
Marketed as the flagship of the Chrysler minivan line, five generations of the Town & Country were slotted above the extended-wheelbase Dodge Grand Caravan and Plymouth Grand Voyager. For 2017, Chrysler retired the nameplate, with sixth-generation Chrysler-division minivans becoming the Chrysler Pacifica. After the 2016 model year, Chrysler marked the sale of its 12 millionth minivan (under all three nameplates). Produced almost continuously for 75 years (with the exception of World War II and 1989), the Town & Country nameplate is the longest-produced Chrysler; its longevity is second only to the Chevrolet Suburban in worldwide automotive history.
Chrysler assembled the first three generations of the model line in its Saint Louis Assembly facility (Fenton, Missouri). The fourth and fifth-generation Town & Country were produced by Chrysler Canada by Windsor Assembly (Windsor, Ontario).

We recently purchased our second 2008 Town and Country, both of which were pre-owned. Our first minivan was the LX trim, and our current one is the Limited. We bought the first minivan with 95k miles on it, and sold it with 130k miles and after 4 years of ownership. It was a solid vehicle, but it didn't have all the options we needed. Two months ago, we were lucky enough to find a black 2008 TC Limited. The value of these minivans is unbeatable; the price of the minivan, OEM parts, and dealership labor is still under 17K. Let's be realistic, this minivan may not be as durable as a Toyota, BUT you get huge savings and a lot of features that you can't find with other manufacturers. It's not expensive to maintain, and we believe it's reliable enough.

An overall good family vehicle. I travel constantly interstate, and I take the seats out and camp in it. I find the Stow 'n Go floor storage bins most helpful, as I keep supplies in them and that saves more room. I tinted the sides and rear windows limo-tinting, to cut down solar ray intrusion. I really like the convenience of the overhead DVD player. All in all, I'm a big fan!

This is an excellent purchase for the price. Although the leather may be too soft for kids, which is why I gave an 8 for the interior. The exterior could have used better quality plastics, but it should still hold up. The 4.0 engine, fun factor, and onboard electronics are impressive, especially for a mini-van. The doors were acting up, but my friend who has the same van showed me how to fix the problem by tightening a hex screw on each door. The only improvements I would suggest are wider tires and a better location for the spare tire. Overall, a great buy!

I've owned several cars and minivans over the years, and my wife's previous vehicle was a 01 T&C with 139K miles which we traded for this new T&C. I'm a lifelong Corvette owner, but let me tell you, I argue with my wife daily about letting me drive this vehicle. Chrysler invented the minivan, and they've made it so much better. I absolutely love being seen in this vehicle - everywhere I stop, people ask me about it. I just reply,

Most other vans look like spaceships inside and out. However, the T and C has a nice wood grain finish and well-designed ergonomic controls. The current body style is considered the best in the class. It also has all the convenience factors, including the swivel and go feature which the kids love. The motor is peppy and has good mileage. Additionally, it has been reliable with no maintenance issues to date. Overall, I would definitely buy it again.

If you are in the market for a minivan, we would recommend considering other options besides the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country Touring. While we have had some issues with the vehicle, such as needing to change the brakes multiple times and adding oil frequently, we have also experienced some more significant problems like the back rear top brake light bar not working and the top radiator hose blowing a hole. Additionally, there are some annoying squeaks and rattles in the vehicle during the winter months. We have found that repairs for these issues can be quite costly. We wanted to share our experience with the vehicle to help others make an informed decision. Thank you for considering our feedback.Today, while running errands, the check engine light came on. I had a diagnostic test performed and unfortunately, it revealed two more issues. The first issue is that the ECM has detected that brake switch 2 is applied while brake switch 1 is open. The second issue is that the EGR position sensor rationality is closed, which means that the ECM is detecting EGR flow or movement when it is not expected. The probable cause of these issues could be a failed EGR solenoid, failed EGR position sensor, or failed EGR valve. The estimate for repair is between $200-$400, and we also have two separate recall notices that have not been repaired yet. The dealership is unsure when the parts from the factory will become available, and it could take anywhere from 3-5 years before the repairs take place. Unfortunately, this has been the worst vehicle we have ever owned. It's disheartening because I was a previous owner of a brand new 2001 Chrysler Sebring, which was the best vehicle with very few problems. When we decided to purchase the Chrysler minivan, I was elated and certain we had made a great choice based on my previous experience. However, I was wrong on so many levels. With relief, we have decided to no longer purchase another Chrysler. I'm looking forward to a much better, less stressful experience that will not become a money pit within 2 years.

Thankfully, I purchased the bumper-to-bumper warranty when I bought the van new. Although I have had some issues with the van, the dealer has been working to resolve them. While it can be frustrating to deal with car troubles, I appreciate the effort the dealer has put in to fix the issues. It's important to do research before purchasing a vehicle, and I would recommend considering all options before making a decision. Thank you for taking the time to read my experience.

I purchased a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country van with the understanding that the transmission would be covered under warranty for the life of the car. I had previously owned a 1995 Town and Country van, which had transmission issues at 90,000 miles. The dealership assured me that Chrysler had fixed the transmission and wanted to restore their reputation by offering a lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, at 45,000 miles, the dealer informed me that the transmission cooler lines were leaking and required a $490 repair. Despite my disappointment, I understand that this part was not included in the warranty as per the owners manual. While I was frustrated with the situation, I reached out to Chrysler headquarters to inquire about the issue and they were unable to provide any information on similar cases. Although I did have to pay for the repair, I still believe that Chrysler makes quality vehicles and I would consider purchasing from them again in the future.

Hi there! I noticed that another reviewer mentioned having to replace the rear brakes twice with only 43,000 miles on the vehicle. It seems like there have been some electrical problems as well, including an issue with the starter that is currently on back order. I hope everything keeps running smoothly until the part comes in! I also wanted to mention that the button used to change gears has broken twice, but unfortunately, it's considered cosmetic under the extended warranty plan and is no longer covered. Lastly, I understand that repairing the front headlight cost $300 and took four hours. Thanks for sharing your experience!
