2008 Chrysler Town and country problems

The Chrysler Town & Country is a minivan that was manufactured and marketed by Chrysler from 1990 to the 2016 model years. The third Chrysler minivan introduced in North America, the Town & Country adopted its nameplate from the flagship Chrysler station wagon line, adopting its exterior woodgrain trim as a design feature for several generations.

Marketed as the flagship of the Chrysler minivan line, five generations of the Town & Country were slotted above the extended-wheelbase Dodge Grand Caravan and Plymouth Grand Voyager. For 2017, Chrysler retired the nameplate, with sixth-generation Chrysler-division minivans becoming the Chrysler Pacifica. After the 2016 model year, Chrysler marked the sale of its 12 millionth minivan (under all three nameplates). Produced almost continuously for 75 years (with the exception of World War II and 1989), the Town & Country nameplate is the longest-produced Chrysler; its longevity is second only to the Chevrolet Suburban in worldwide automotive history.

Chrysler assembled the first three generations of the model line in its Saint Louis Assembly facility (Fenton, Missouri). The fourth and fifth-generation Town & Country were produced by Chrysler Canada by Windsor Assembly (Windsor, Ontario).

Negative 2008 Chrysler Town and country car reviews

If you're not sure where to start, I'd like to offer some advice. While the design and interior of Chrysler products may be appealing, I've had some negative experiences with them. In my personal experience, I've had to replace the brakes on my vehicle twice a year, and even Chrysler mechanics have acknowledged that the brakes were under-engineered for the size of the vehicle. Additionally, I've had issues with coolant hoses and the transmission. While the air conditioning isn't as good as other minivans, I still appreciate the car for what it is. It's important to note that my car is now out of warranty, but I still choose to keep it. I hope this information helps you make an informed decision.

  2. Jamir Ernser 2024-10-21

It's disappointing to hear about the issues you've experienced with your vehicle. It sounds like you've had to replace the brakes and tires before 25,000 miles, and have had ongoing issues with squeaks and rattles. Additionally, the shifter broke off at 18,000 miles and the air conditioner had a leak at 22,000 miles. The fuel mileage has also not met your expectations, averaging at 16.9. It's understandable that you're frustrated with the dealership's response, especially with the ongoing brake noise issue. It's important to us that you feel heard and supported, and we would like to work with you to find a solution to these problems. Please let us know how we can assist you further.

We leased a 2008 Town & Country and unfortunately, we have had a number of issues with it. Three days into the lease, we noticed that the brakes were making noise and the steering was off. We had to get new brakes, rotors, and a wheel alignment. Additionally, we experienced some trouble with the doors opening on their own or not closing properly. During a trip to Florida, the radiator cap blew and the radio stopped working for 3 hours. We also noticed that the radio stations were changing on their own. We are currently in the process of trying to get out of the lease, but it has been a bit of a struggle. While we have had some difficulties with the dealership, we are hopeful that we can come to a resolution. They are located in Jersey, and while they may not have been as helpful as we would have liked, we are confident that we can work together to find a solution. During our last visit, they provided us with a PT Cruiser as a rental, which was appreciated. However, we did have to change cars outside in a snowstorm with a 3-year-old and a 7-month-old, which was a bit challenging. Despite these issues, we remain optimistic that we can find a way to resolve this situation.

I purchased my 2008 T&C used with only 17k miles. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with it. The wipers have a tendency to come on by themselves, both while driving and while parked. The horn also goes off constantly, and the van will sometimes crank itself without the key (even though I don't have remote start). Additionally, the van brakes on its own while driving, takes itself out of gear, and won't crank half the time. The washer fluid also sprays on its own, and the passenger doors only close by button half of the time (even when there is nothing in the way). I took it to the dealership and they told me that I had a bad harness by the driver's door, but even after replacing it, the same thing happened the next day. Currently, it is parked at a store parking lot because it won't crank. I hope to find a solution soon!

  5. Russel Lockman 2024-08-03

Although I have only owned this car for less than a year, it has unfortunately required multiple visits to the repair shop. Despite my initial excitement about the car's impressive features, such as the swivel seats, satellite TV, and dual DVD, we have encountered numerous issues. These include having to replace the entire MYGIG system, fixing doors that would unexpectedly pop open, repairing sensors that would ring, replacing brake pads, and even replacing the gear shift. Additionally, adjusting the middle row seat back has resulted in me hitting my head twice due to the violent force with which they fling down. While the car is aesthetically pleasing and comfortable, its lack of reliability has been a significant disappointment.

Positive 2008 Chrysler Town and country car reviews

  1. Alex Hickle 2025-01-07

This is an excellent purchase for the price. Although the leather may be too soft for kids, which is why I gave an 8 for the interior. The exterior could have used better quality plastics, but it should still hold up. The 4.0 engine, fun factor, and onboard electronics are impressive, especially for a mini-van. The doors were acting up, but my friend who has the same van showed me how to fix the problem by tightening a hex screw on each door. The only improvements I would suggest are wider tires and a better location for the spare tire. Overall, a great buy!

  2. Camryn Kling 2024-10-19

I've owned several cars and minivans over the years, and my wife's previous vehicle was a 01 T&C with 139K miles which we traded for this new T&C. I'm a lifelong Corvette owner, but let me tell you, I argue with my wife daily about letting me drive this vehicle. Chrysler invented the minivan, and they've made it so much better. I absolutely love being seen in this vehicle - everywhere I stop, people ask me about it. I just reply,

  3. Mekhi Marks 2024-10-19

Most other vans look like spaceships inside and out. However, the T and C has a nice wood grain finish and well-designed ergonomic controls. The current body style is considered the best in the class. It also has all the convenience factors, including the swivel and go feature which the kids love. The motor is peppy and has good mileage. Additionally, it has been reliable with no maintenance issues to date. Overall, I would definitely buy it again.

  4. Darrel Abbott 2024-10-10

We often trade in cars, and for the past several years, we have loved the Town and Country. I must admit, the old van, without the DVD player, felt like just a people mover, nothing special, although it has been through a lot. The new one is a significant improvement, and I absolutely adore it. We had to go with the swivel seats, and I don't think they have faced forward since we drove it off the lot!

  5. Eli Block 2024-09-26

I don't know what everyone is talking about. My minivan has been great! Everything works fine except the passenger side auto door won't close the first time we hit the button. Big whoopity do though. We drive this van everywhere and it's been 100% reliable. We've had no issues whatsoever. It's a great van that I love to drive, and the kids thoroughly enjoy being on trips!
