2012 Chrysler Town and country problems

The Chrysler Town & Country is a minivan that was manufactured and marketed by Chrysler from 1990 to the 2016 model years. The third Chrysler minivan introduced in North America, the Town & Country adopted its nameplate from the flagship Chrysler station wagon line, adopting its exterior woodgrain trim as a design feature for several generations.

Marketed as the flagship of the Chrysler minivan line, five generations of the Town & Country were slotted above the extended-wheelbase Dodge Grand Caravan and Plymouth Grand Voyager. For 2017, Chrysler retired the nameplate, with sixth-generation Chrysler-division minivans becoming the Chrysler Pacifica. After the 2016 model year, Chrysler marked the sale of its 12 millionth minivan (under all three nameplates). Produced almost continuously for 75 years (with the exception of World War II and 1989), the Town & Country nameplate is the longest-produced Chrysler; its longevity is second only to the Chevrolet Suburban in worldwide automotive history.

Chrysler assembled the first three generations of the model line in its Saint Louis Assembly facility (Fenton, Missouri). The fourth and fifth-generation Town & Country were produced by Chrysler Canada by Windsor Assembly (Windsor, Ontario).

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-04
  • VIN: 2C4RC1BG4CR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Last year, when I purchased this used minivan, it stalled at highway speed 2 hours after purchase on my way home. This random stalling at highway speed continued for at least six months. Then, it began having problems starting. The dealer said I needed a new computer, which I spent nearly $1,000 to get. The stalling at speed continued. It is now getting worse again and seems related to the vertical movement of the key fob in the ignition. Here's what I don't understand: You issued a recall for, what, the 2008-2010 version of this minivan, yet I can also find comments on here and elsewhere online that the problem is still happening. I drive with my grandkids in this minivan. How many people will have to die before another recall is issued? Chrysler did not fix the problem at the manufacturing stage. Please be a government and protect us. Please force them to fix it in a recall. BTW, you leave space for only a single date and speed. It happens all the time at any speed, including startup. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-07-22
  • VIN: 2C4RC1CG8CR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE
  • Summary: The driver's side sliding door became inoperable suddenly. The locking mechanism was stuck in the locked position and would not release via key, manual, fob, or buttons. A buzzing noise occurred when trying to lock or unlock. This exit door being inoperable caused a safety concern to be able to exit the vehicle on the driver's side. It does now allow for quick, easy escape from the vehicle. If the danger was on the passenger side then the only exit is everyone climbing through the driver's door. This issue was verified by Dishman Dodge (Spokane Valley, WA) service team on 8/8/23. The lock actuator was the issue. They have replaced it at my expense. (This is the same issue referenced in: Chrysler TSB 23-017-20) There were no warnings or symptoms prior to this lock failing. We were on a trip July 22 when we first noticed the issue.

Negative 2012 Chrysler Town and country car reviews

  1. Donald VonRueden 2024-09-21

I wasn't expecting much in terms of performance or quality, but unfortunately this car falls short of even basic standards. The build quality is poor and the performance is lacklustre. While it wouldn't be fair to compare this car to my BMW X5M, it simply doesn't meet the standards of any other car in its class. I considered the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey, but ultimately chose this car for its entertainment system. While it does work as promised, it's difficult to use and almost impossible to operate while driving, which is a safety concern. Despite the poor driving experience, the ride comfort is good. While Toyota and Honda don't offer much more, I would expect better quality from both of them.

  2. Sterling Berge 2024-05-22

I am confident in stating that the brakes in this town and country wear out quickly. The pads and rotors were replaced at 35,000 miles for both the front and rear. However, less than 4,000 miles later, the brakes required service again due to all four rotors being heavily glazed over.

Positive 2012 Chrysler Town and country car reviews

  1. Niko Zulauf 2024-11-06

Our vehicle has travelled an impressive 275,000 miles and continues to perform exceptionally well. Despite frequent and heavy use, we have not experienced any significant breakdowns or required any major repairs. The only minor issue we have encountered is a malfunctioning right rear passenger door motor.

  2. Cleveland Lakin 2024-09-23

I have been driving my new mini van for just over a week now and I am very satisfied with it. While the performance is not exceptional, it is still good value for money considering all the features it offers. However, the GPS/entertainment system could use some improvement. The menus are not user-friendly and the GPS does not display the speed limit like most newer models do. Additionally, the turn-by-turn instructions are inadequate and provide little warning. The voice command feature requires quick and precise commands. Lastly, although the system allows for the upload of hundreds of pictures, only one can be displayed at a time unless manually changed.

  3. Jaron Harvey 2024-08-14

You're going to love this riding vehicle! It's the most comfortable one I've ever owned, and it's super reliable and mechanically sturdy.

  4. Adelbert O'Reilly 2024-07-17

I recently traded in my 2010 GMC Acadia and upgraded to a 2012 Town and Country. I am absolutely thrilled with my new vehicle! It has so many amazing features, including remote start, power everything, heated seats in the first and second row, heated steering, keyless entry and go (no key needed in hand!), a roomy interior, a backup camera and sensors, blind spot notification, auto wipers and headlights (even auto high beams!), U Connect for smartphones, USB ports, three TVs, two DVD players, RCA connectors to connect an Xbox to the screen, 110v outlets, and leather seats. I can't say enough good things about this car - I absolutely love it!

  5. Helmer Mraz 2024-06-22

I'm so glad to hear that you're still enjoying your van just as much as when you first bought it! I completely understand the feeling of wanting to be free of payments, but it sounds like you've made a great choice with your purchase.
