Chevrolet Corvette problems
The Chevrolet Corvette is a line of American two-door, two-seater sports cars, manufactured and marketed by General Motors, under the Chevrolet marque, since 1953.
Over the course of eight generations, indicated sequentially as C1 to C8, the Corvette is noted for its performance, distinctive styling, lightweight fiberglass or composite bodywork, and competitive pricing. Since the cessation of Ford and Chrysler's competitors, the Corvette is the only two-seat sports car produced by a major United States auto manufacturer and serves as Chevrolet's halo car.
Since its introduction in 1953, the two-seater has steadily moved upmarket. Originally a relatively modest, lightweight 6‑cylinder convertible, subsequent introductions of V8 engines, competitive chassis innovations, and rear mid-engined layout have positioned the Corvette in the supercar class. The first three Corvette generations (1953–1983) employed body-on-frame construction, and since the C4 generation, introduced in 1983 as an early 1984 model, Corvettes have used GM's unibody Y‑body platform. All Corvettes used front mid-engine configuration for seven generations, through 2019, and transitioned to a rear mid-engined layout with the C8 generation.
In 1953, GM executives accepted a suggestion by Myron Scott, then the assistant director of the Public Relations department, to name the company's new sports car after the corvette, a small maneuverable warship. The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the 1953 GM Motorama as a concept car; production models went on sale later that year. In 1963, the second generation was introduced in coupe and convertible styles. Originally manufactured in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette has been produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1981, which is also the location of the National Corvette Museum.
The Corvette has become widely known as "America's Sports Car." Automotive News wrote that after being featured in the early 1960s television show Route 66, "the Corvette became synonymous with freedom and adventure," ultimately becoming both "the most successful concept car in history and the most popular sports car in history."

Are Chevy Corvettes reliable?
In most cases, a Corvette is generally a dependable and high-quality car. While sports cars aren't commonly known for their reliability, Corvettes are an exception.
What is the downside of owning a Corvette?
Low ride: The iconic low ride of the Corvette can also be a con. When you hit bumps or curbs, it might do real damage to your vehicle, whereas something that rides a bit higher wouldn't even feel it.
What year was the bad Corvette?
Probably the worst year for the Corvette was the 1983 as none were released for production. Only a few test models were made and I believe only one remains. It is one of the cars that fell through the sink hole under the Corvette museum.
Are Corvettes high maintenance?
Find a Certified Mechanic. The Chevrolet Corvette Reliability Rating is 3.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 23rd out of 24 for midsize cars. The average annual repair cost is $737 which means it has average ownership costs.

Dealer replaced the rear rotors & pads & rechecked front rotors/pads. Ok for a while. - At 3897 miles it started again. Note: each time the dealership was able to duplicate the issue including the Service Mgr and the General Mgr. The front rotors were turned/pads checked. Ok for a while. - At 4037 miles it started again. Service Manager was able to duplicate. Through all of this, multiple cases have been opened with General Motors by myself and the dealership. It has been escalated to various levels. Mileage was put on the car as GM escalation process was ongoing. They then replaced the front rotors and disc pads. - At 5150 miles it started again. This is a serious safety problem as it is a constant concern how reliable the brakes will be. Full details are documented on the following pages with dates. - Summary: When driving, car will falsely and intermittently get random error codes on BUS module; resulting in a false FRUNK or Front Latch Service warning under Body Control Module code B1A5F or U164F for gateway. Chevy has found electrical connectors for car built in Nov/Dec 2023 which have plastic or bits inside the connectors making the electrical system have issues. However, even after addressing those faulty connectors they now think its also related to bad software. No resolution after 8 months of attempted repairs, and Chevy forums show other people with the BUS errors around same build time of end 2023. If you are driving car when these errors randomly pop in or out, the car will go into reduced power and speed limit of 25 MPH as it thinks the front trunk latch is open (when its closed). - Date Complaint: 2024-09-14
- VIN: 1G1YF2D72E5
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Earlier in the year I called GM about getting my Navigation updated. I ask when the next update would made current. I was told it would probably be in May. I decided to wait until then and it would be more accurate. When I called, they told me that GM had decided not to furnish a new update. I then tried to order one for last year and they could not update that either. I was willing to pay for it. With all the changes in highway's, it is dangerous to try to use it. They sold me the navigation and then made it obsolete. They did Bluetooth the radio but not the navigation. This is a safety hazard, and I feel the least they could do is charge me for the update and furnish it. It is still accurate except for new streets and there are a lot of changes. Help!

Chevrolet Corvette 2019
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-17
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-02
- VIN: 1G1YB2D76K5
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: My 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the transmission system along with the torque converter began to malfunction as the car seemed to change from different modes. This malfunction caused the transmission to shudder, which caused a very bad vibration while accelerating and driving between the speed of 25-70mph. These actions or behaviors by the car surely poses a control and stability risks well as a safety risk for everyone on the highway and to myself. This issue was confirmed by the GM dealership I took the car to on 8/23/2024 and they said they could not get to it until 9/9/2024 and they will have to do a triple transmission fluid flush based on a service bulletin (TSB 18-NA-335) which was issued by General Motors. My car gave me no warning by way of lights or messages within the car. I would like to know why this repair is not covered under the service bulletin since General Motors knows this is a issue with the cars.

Great performance! This is definitely a racing car. In sport mode, the sound is like a Harley! The grip of the tires on the road is fantastic. It's very hard to burn rubber because the car grabs the road and launches like a rocket 🚀

I owned a C4 1984 for 8 years. It was a fun sports car, but there is no comparison to the C5. The top quality and greatly improved features make it run with the best. I can't wait until the C6s come out in 2005!

It's great to hear that you're enjoying your Vette! I'm impressed by the gas mileage you're getting, especially compared to your Nissan v-6 pickup. It sounds like you're taking good care of it, even with the repairs and restoration. I agree that the older models have a certain charm that the new ones lack. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I purchased this car with 111,000 miles on it 2 years ago. It now has 141,000 miles on it. I drove it from Nevada to New Jersey and back to Nevada. A lot of people come up and ask about it because it's very fast and handles awesome. I replaced the starter, distributor twice, and water pump as a cautionary measure because the distributor is right behind the pump and if it gets wet, it could fail. The second distributor was under warranty for parts and labor. I only paid 4 thousand for the car, which was a steal of the century. Trust me, when you get a Corvette, you will want two. That's what I'm looking for now. Update: my Corvette now has 162,000 miles on it. I just drove it 5,600 miles on a cross-country trip, and it performed like a champ. There were no issues, and it has been reliable.

The Corvette is one of the best sports cars I've ever owned! It's a true GT sports car that offers great performance and engineering. Not only does it handle like an exotic, but it also has very good gas mileage. Even better, you can enjoy driving it every day with a smile on your face. GM has done an excellent job with the reliability of the Corvette, making it a world-class icon in automotive and racing history. While the Corvette may not be for everyone, those who have the wallet and driving maturity to own one will experience extreme driving pleasure. And don't forget to wave to other Corvette owners - you're part of a great club!

Hello there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my recent purchase with you - a beautiful Corvette 427! It's incredibly fast and I'm really enjoying it. Unfortunately, there was a defect in the steering column when I received it, but the dealer was quick to replace the components responsible. However, the issue persisted and I was informed that GM was redesigning a new steering column for the vehicle. After a bit of a wait (more than 21 days!), the steering column was finally fixed. Although the car had to be opened and worked on multiple times, the end result is great. The only issues I've noticed are some minor leaks that have unfortunately ruined my driveway, and a friction noise when taking off. I was told that this is a normal noise for GM 6-speed transmissions, so nothing to worry about. Overall, I'm still very happy with my purchase and can't wait to take it out for another spin!

This is my 10th Corvette, and I have owned a range of models from T tops, Targa Tops, Convertibles, Autos, Manuals, and 1 ZR1. When I purchased my 2018 Z51 3LT Stingray Coupe in January 2019, the Dealerships Internet Department failed to disclose the GM Service Bulletin regarding WHEEL HOP, which only included 2014 to 2017 Stingrays. When I experienced SEVERE WHEEL HOPPING at parking lot speeds, in HARD RIGHT OR LEFT TURNS, I was concerned. However, the dealership printed the aforementioned GM BULLETIN, which stated that it was NORMAL. Despite starting a LEMON LAW with GM, I was told that it was NORMAL. I even contacted an Attorney, but his EXPERT said he would not go to court because GM SAYS, ITS NORMAL. Unfortunately, the Dealership I purchased the car from was of no help. As a Corvette Enthusiast, I am disappointed with my experience. However, I remain confident in the quality of the Corvette brand. It is worth noting that the value of my car has decreased by almost $20K in only 5 MONTHS, from $63K to $45K.

I drove 9 hours one way to inspect this car based on the dealer's description. Unfortunately, the car was not as described and did not meet my expectations. The tires were 13 years old and the all weather stripping needed to be replaced, among other issues. There were too many problems to list and the car should have been listed as a project car.

I have owned 13 brand new cars in my 71 years, and the 2016 Corvette is the most fun to drive. The comfort is surprisingly superb and the performance is terrific. Although there have been some unresolved issues with the air conditioner/climate control and seat cooling, the gas mileage is unbelievably wonderful and the Long Beach Red color is a real head-turner. Despite the reliability issues and time spent in the shop, I still believe that this car is worth it. While I have had some regrets about buying it, I still think that it is a great car overall. However, if you are looking for a more reliable option, I would recommend a Mustang instead. No one should buy a Corvette due to the poor service and negative experiences I had with two dealers, Reliable and Casa in Albuquerque. I am confident that I will choose a Mustang for my next car purchase, once this Corvette depreciates to zero as they all do. Despite the issues I have had, I am certain that the air conditioner will be fixed and I am hopeful that the seat cooling will work properly in the future.

It's great to see so many overseas competitors excelling in technology and overall drive when it comes to vehicles in this price range. However, we are confident that we can keep up with the competition and continue to provide high-quality vehicles to our customers.
