In 1953, GM executives accepted a suggestion by Myron Scott, then the assistant director of the Public Relations department, to name the company's new sports car after the corvette, a small maneuverable warship. The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the 1953 GM Motorama as a concept car; production models went on sale later that year. In 1963, the second generation was introduced in coupe and convertible styles. Originally manufactured in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette has been produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1981, which is also the location of the National Corvette Museum.
The Corvette has become widely known as "America's Sports Car." Automotive News wrote that after being featured in the early 1960s television show Route 66, "the Corvette became synonymous with freedom and adventure," ultimately becoming both "the most successful concept car in history and the most popular sports car in history."

- Summary: I have a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. The current mileage (as of July 1, 2023) is 26,200 miles. I have a strong odor of gas every time I fill the gas tank to above 1/2 the tank. This is a fairly common condition, as evidenced by the hundreds of NHTSA related complaints, and the Corvette forums. Two Chevrolet Dealerships told me I need a new Fuel Pump. The most recent diagnosis at a Dealership was on June 5, 2023. They want $3,500.00 to replace the fuel pump. Chevrolet realized there is a faulty part causing the fuel odor condition. Chevrolet issued a few Bulletins about it, and offered to make the repair at no cost if you met certain conditions. I’ve enclosed the Letter that was sent to me in 2016. As you can see, it’s about the odor of fuel and fuel droplets appearing below the left-hand fuel tank when the fuel gauge is above ½. The Letter contained an underlined sentence that directed me not to take the vehicle to the dealer unless I had the above-mentioned condition. Verbatim, it says: Do not take your vehicle to your Chevrolet dealer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition as described above. Being an honest person, I did not take my Corvette to the Dealer at that time because I did not detect an odor of gas at that time. Now, a few years later, I’m experiencing the described condition on my 2008 Corvette with mileage of 26, 200. If this condition surfaces around the time mileage reaches 26,000, I can only assume that my car’s mileage was too low back when the…letter to repair… was in effect My primary complaint is that Chevrolet should not have had "time constraints". The mileage limit is 120,000, but the time constraint is around 2018. I feel Chevrolet should repair this known problem at No Cost primarily due to the fact that the vehicle has less than 120,000 miles on it. I'm attaching 2 documents produced by Chevrolet. Thank you.

Next day when we return from an event in the evening, the smell had permeated throughout the home not just garage. I checked online and found that this is a common problem with this vehicle and year. I've owned five Corvettes in my life, but my 2008 is the first new one I've had. In 2004, I bought a beautiful black 2002 convertible and I really loved it. Then, I began reading about the 2008 and the new engine. Since I had just turned 60, I decided to buy a new Corvette. I ordered a Crystal red convertible with an ebony interior, dual mode exhaust, and LT3 package. I have not been disappointed. It handles like a dream and feels so tight and manageable. When you just step on the gas, not floor it, you are doing 70 before you know it. But the best part is that almost every time I take it out, strangers will stop and tell me that it's the 'best looking car they've ever seen'. No problems.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I purchased it brand new in 2008 and it has been an absolute dream. I've driven 42,000 miles and have not had a single service issue. It's been incredibly reliable! The car is a performance machine and it's amazing that it's still faster than many of the newer, heavier models. The C6 ZO6 weighs only 3,160 lbs and is the last American car that prioritized performance over everything else. The car is designed for performance with a thinner windshield, carbon fenders, magnesium roof and engine carriage, and minimal options that add weight. It's also great for long trips because of the large storage area under the rear glass hatch. I've been able to fit my wife, luggage, a cooler, and even a road bicycle! On the Interstate, I've seen typical fuel economy around 31 mpg @ 80 mph, and as high as 33-35 on a few tanks of gas. I've owned 20 new cars in my life, but this one has been my favorite. If you're in the market for a car, I highly recommend finding a low-mileage 2007 or newer model. You won't regret it!

After working at a dealership in high school, I've always wanted a Corvette. Recently, I found a local 2008 model online and decided to check it out. Despite never having driven one before, I took the plunge and bought it. And I have to say, it drives perfectly at any speed. I'm in love with its beauty and performance, and I know I made the right choice. I have the Atomic Orange 3LT transparent removable roof, and I can't seem to stay out of this car. Every time I drive it, I receive compliments on its stunning design. I completely agree with every positive thing I've read on this forum. If you have the chance, I highly recommend buying one!

I'm thrilled to share that I just got my 3rd Corvette! My previous ones were a 1993-C4 and a 1998-C5, and now I have a 2008-C6-LT3. This time, I went for an all Black version with the LT3 package, 6sp manual, Navigation system, Z-51 handling package with dual exhaust system. I know it might seem crazy to get black for the third time, but when it's clean, nothing looks better! This is hands down the best Corvette I've ever owned. The vehicle now really has the horsepower to be called a Corvette. The handling is crisp and precise, and the acceleration is enough to cause whiplash! I've also added some personal touches, like a mesh grill, wild to mild exhaust controller, CAGS eliminator, iPod interface with HD radio, and better rear speakers (Focals). Honestly, I can't think of anything else to change!

After 4 years of owning a Corvette C5 coupe, I decided to upgrade to a new 2008 Machine Silver Z06. I was drawn to its great pricing, impressive performance, and stunning looks. I have only had the car for less than two weeks, but I can confidently say that it is the best automobile I have ever owned. The acceleration and overall performance are simply superb, and the car's appearance is truly unmatched. While the Z06 is not exactly an economy car, I am pleased to report that it still manages to achieve highway mileage in the mid 20's, which is definitely not disappointing.

I've been experiencing some issues with my new Z06.1. The automatic shift from 1st to 4th light doesn't always come on when I shift from 1st to 4th. Additionally, I've noticed that sometimes the vehicle won't allow me to fill the tank completely, limiting me to only half a tank. The traction light also comes on and off intermittently, and it seems like the rear end may be slipping. When making wide, slow turns, the steering wheel becomes quite difficult to turn, almost as if I don't have power steering. Lastly, I've noticed some cracking noises coming from the roof of the car when I pull into my driveway. Unfortunately, the power seat control went out during the first week of ownership and had to be replaced.

The engine in my 2008 Z06 427 Corvette experienced a catastrophic failure at highway speeds due to the intake and exhaust valves falling into the combustion chambers. Despite being informed by the local Chevy dealer that the block was cracked and a new engine would cost $15,000, I later discovered that the block was not actually cracked. It is disappointing that GM has not taken action to address the known valve seal problem. In my experience, the Corvette did not meet my expectations. However, I remain open to changing my opinion if GM takes appropriate steps to rectify the situation.
