2022 Chevrolet Corvette problems
The Chevrolet Corvette is a line of American two-door, two-seater sports cars, manufactured and marketed by General Motors, under the Chevrolet marque, since 1953.
Over the course of eight generations, indicated sequentially as C1 to C8, the Corvette is noted for its performance, distinctive styling, lightweight fiberglass or composite bodywork, and competitive pricing. Since the cessation of Ford and Chrysler's competitors, the Corvette is the only two-seat sports car produced by a major United States auto manufacturer and serves as Chevrolet's halo car.
Since its introduction in 1953, the two-seater has steadily moved upmarket. Originally a relatively modest, lightweight 6‑cylinder convertible, subsequent introductions of V8 engines, competitive chassis innovations, and rear mid-engined layout have positioned the Corvette in the supercar class. The first three Corvette generations (1953–1983) employed body-on-frame construction, and since the C4 generation, introduced in 1983 as an early 1984 model, Corvettes have used GM's unibody Y‑body platform. All Corvettes used front mid-engine configuration for seven generations, through 2019, and transitioned to a rear mid-engined layout with the C8 generation.
In 1953, GM executives accepted a suggestion by Myron Scott, then the assistant director of the Public Relations department, to name the company's new sports car after the corvette, a small maneuverable warship. The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the 1953 GM Motorama as a concept car; production models went on sale later that year. In 1963, the second generation was introduced in coupe and convertible styles. Originally manufactured in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette has been produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1981, which is also the location of the National Corvette Museum.
The Corvette has become widely known as "America's Sports Car." Automotive News wrote that after being featured in the early 1960s television show Route 66, "the Corvette became synonymous with freedom and adventure," ultimately becoming both "the most successful concept car in history and the most popular sports car in history."

Common 2022 Chevrolet Corvette problems
The most common problem with the Chevrolet Corvette 2022 is the fuel level sensor failure, which results in an incorrect reading of the amount of fuel left in the gas tank.
The second-most frequent problem for the Chevrolet Corvette is the check engine light due to a gas cap issue. If the gas cap is loose or worn, it can cause the check engine indicator to light up on the dashboard. This problem may require a check engine light diagnosis and testing, which has an average cost between $88-$111.
Another common issue reported by owners of the sports car is a service steering column message due to a defect in the anti-theft system. This problem can be quite serious, for it may cause the engine to start and stall when placed into gear. Addressing the problem requires repairing the steering column lock system. This issue only affects older Corvette models (C5s from 1997-2004; and the C6 from 2006). However, some models were recalled, and the repairs should be covered.
The 2020-2023 Corvette has experienced numerous transmission problems, with owners reporting transmission failure, gasket failures, leaks, and error messages telling Corvette owners to put the vehicle in for servicing. These problems prompted GM to investigate the matter and identify the causes of the Corvette Transmission problems.
In terms of overall reliability, the Chevy Corvette sports car is average for all model years, with a reliability rating of three out of five.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-21
- VIN: 1G1YB2D49N5
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Experiencing an ongoing problem where the brakes pulsate and vibrate badly, especially after rotors and pads get hot. I am concerned about the safety and possible failure of the brakes if it is not corrected. - The vehicle was purchased as CPO at Antwerpen Chevrolet dealership in Eldersburg, MD with 2155 miles on it. The Carfax noted the front brake rotor(s) were resurfaced. I questioned it and the dealership assured me they would take care of any issue I had with it. - I started experiencing the pulsating at 2550 miles. I went to the dealership and they were very helpful and ended up replacing the front rotors and pads. It appeared to be corrected. - At 3253 miles pulsation started again. Dealer replaced the rear rotors & pads & rechecked front rotors/pads. Ok for a while. - At 3897 miles it started again. Note: each time the dealership was able to duplicate the issue including the Service Mgr and the General Mgr. The front rotors were turned/pads checked. Ok for a while. - At 4037 miles it started again. Service Manager was able to duplicate. Through all of this, multiple cases have been opened with General Motors by myself and the dealership. It has been escalated to various levels. Mileage was put on the car as GM escalation process was ongoing. They then replaced the front rotors and disc pads. - At 5150 miles it started again. This is a serious safety problem as it is a constant concern how reliable the brakes will be. Full details are documented on the following pages with dates. Please reference the corvette forum link that backs up this is a problem for 2021/2022 Z51 corvettes and not just my issue [XXX] GM's answer is that this is normal for a Corvette Z51 package. SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-22
- VIN: 1G1YA2D47N5
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I ran an update on my c8 corvette, left the car till it was completed. The next day I left with the car and went through the stop sign and through 2 lanes of traffic and almost down a ditch. I live in a country setting. I almost had a very serious accident. I had no brakes. The dash said service brake assist, service ASC and brake failure. Although my car only has 758 miles it has run with no issues since I took delivery of it in September 2021. This happened because of that update. On the Corvette Forum I have 2 documented experiences of 2 other 2022 C8 corvette owners with the exact same issue as me. As of this writing I'm waiting to be towed to Apple Chevrolet in Tinley Park I'll. This is a very serious problem. I will be afraid to drive my car now as I've had a terrible experience. I'm [XXX]. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-12-13
- VIN: 1G1YB2D44N5
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument panel inadvertently lost electrical power; however, upon restarting the vehicle, the instrument panel returned to normal functionality. No warning lights were displayed on the instrument panel prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the instrument panel needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,700. The consumer stated that the issue with the instrument panel occurred 7-8 times and the vehicle has been to the dealership several times but has yet to be repaired.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-01
- VIN: 1G1YC3D48N5
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I have not experienced a safety incident, but have been warned not to drive the vehicle. The vehicle has 1850 miles. I recently got a message on the Driver Information Display “Rear Axel System Off”. I also receiver an email from OnStar “Engine/ Transmission fault, Seek Service Immediately”. After analysis at the Dealer, they concluded with GM that the transmission needed to be REPLACED. They indicated that it is NOT safe to drive and I should leave it at the Dealer. No other comment as to why. I found that GM reported (September, ‘21) that their transmission supplier had left out two of six bearings in several transmission units…and that they believed that only 19 vehicles were affected. Also commenting that this defect could cause a sudden loss of power resulting in loss of control…however no serious incidents have been reported. My vehicle was assembled in December ‘21… 3 months after GM’s discovery of the issue. I believe that the defective transmission issue is more extensive that GM is acknowledging. A replacement transmission was ordered for mine, but none is currently available (back-ordered). Local Dealers are backlogged with transmission work. My Service Rep (reluctantly) admitted that this is the second C8 Corvette transmission they had to replace. This is a high-profit & high-profile vehicle for both GM and it’s Dealers. I feel GM should disclose how many defective C8 Corvette transmissions they have replaced and more accurately assess the production-dates for affected vehicles.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-05
- VIN: 1G1YC2D46N5
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Took the car in for inspection after noticing a greasy substance on the bottom panels when changing the oil. I was informed by the dealer that a cracked transmission housing up top was spraying the oil out and it was dripping down, the car is 7 month old and the transmission case cracked because of porous metal castings I was told which is a known issue already by GM.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-10
- VIN: 1G1YB2D41N5
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: When headlights are in AUTO mode (i.e. headlights off in sunlight and daytime running lights on, and headlights on in darkness), they will go in and out from on to off doesn't matter weather it is bright sunlight or darkness, and in darkness the headlights will sometimes turn totally off - there is no consistency as to when this happens. This could be a very hazardous condition especially when driving at night and the headlights turn off. I have taken the car to a Chevrolet dealer for repair and a ambient light sensor has been ordered, however there has been no indication as to when this part may be available. The headlights arbitrarily turning off in darkness could be a very hazardous condition. the bad light sensor has been documented by many owners of Corvettes and seems to have impacted autos build at least from about Feb 2022 through May 2022
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-19
- VIN: 1G1YC3D45N5
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: This 2022 Corvette is dangerous and could kill someone on the highway the Fronk or front storage area opens up the front hood automatically while driving this car. The car can just sit in the garage the fronk storage area opens up automatically by itself. Walk by the car lights start flashing touch the car lights flash etc. It also appears to be an electrical problem with the car. I noticed in 2020 people complained that who owned new Corvettes they were having similar problems with the front hood opening up while driving down the highway. This could cause a disaster on the highway and lives and many lives be lost in a major accident.

- Summary: April 26, 2022??VIA CERTIFIED MAIL General Motors 300 Renaissance Center Detroit, MI 48243 RE: Request for Informal Dispute Resolution/Buy back Vehicle: 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Date of purchase: 4/2/2022 Dealership of purchase: Southern Chevrolet Alexandria, LA Mileage at purchase: 26 Mileage upon return: 105 I am writing this letter to inform you of problems that I am experiencing with the above referenced vehicle; which was purchased new from Southern Chevrolet 5845 Coliseum Blvd Alexandria, LA 71301. As mentioned above, I purchased and obtained possession of the 2022 Corvette on 4/1/2022. At the time of the purchase, the Corvette had 26 miles on the odometer. The problems began on Sunday, 4/10/22, when I noticed fluid puddled under the car and shockingly the factory installed racing stripes bubbling in several areas. At that time, I immediately made contact with Chaise Crooks who was the salesman upon purchase to notify him of the problem and to request assistance with a loaner and much needed service appointment the following day. Mr. Crooks replied to my text message. The following day at 11:21am, I contacted Mr. Crooks again and was informed that the earliest that I could bring the car to the dealership for attention would be Wednesday, 4/13/22. Of course, I was disappointed as this left me worried and without transportation to and from work. I asked again about a loaner and was informed that nothing was available, but it could be reevaluated if the car would need to be in service for a lengthy period. On 4/13/22, I dropped the car off and waited for 45 minutes for a courtesy shuttle because no one could locate the driver and the department was in complete chaos. On 4/13/22 @ 2:40pm, I received a call from Mike McCann who identified himself as the Service Manager. According to Mr. McCann, the liquid that I located under my car wa

Very good sport car I owed 2017 grand sport but the new vette is completely different. I love the quality of the ride, the power, and the look!
-
Owning this Vette is like being a rock star in a parade, all eyes are on you. The acceleration is quick, powerful and responsive. The handling is very smooth. I love this car.
-
You have a beautiful car! It's the best, and I love it!
-
This C8 is my daily driver in Colorado Springs. I absolutely love it! My daily commute is a mix of downtown and highway driving and the C8 does not disappoint in any driving profile. The engine over the rear axle puts the HP to the ground and the handling is much more fun than previous front-engine designs even at slower speeds. I've had it for 18 months now without a single issue, and have driven it in all weather conditions. It's my 3rd, and most favorite Corvette to date!
-
Having this car as our daily driver is so much fun!

Your car is beautiful and handles great! I love the steering wheel. While the acceleration may feel slow compared to some high-performance cars like Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis, Audi RS's, and BMW M class, it's important to remember that the C8 doesn't have a turbo. Even the Ferrari 360F1 doesn't have a turbo, but there's a noticeable difference in acceleration compared to the C8. However, the beauty and lines of the car are very close to those of a Ferrari or Lamborghini. It's important to note that some reviews on this site may be from ex-Corvette owners who may not have as much experience driving European sports cars. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the C8!

The transmission was replaced after only 1 year and 3k miles. However, I am confident in the car's ability to perform well in the future.
