In 1953, GM executives accepted a suggestion by Myron Scott, then the assistant director of the Public Relations department, to name the company's new sports car after the corvette, a small maneuverable warship. The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the 1953 GM Motorama as a concept car; production models went on sale later that year. In 1963, the second generation was introduced in coupe and convertible styles. Originally manufactured in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette has been produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1981, which is also the location of the National Corvette Museum.

The Corvette has become widely known as "America's Sports Car." Automotive News wrote that after being featured in the early 1960s television show Route 66, "the Corvette became synonymous with freedom and adventure," ultimately becoming both "the most successful concept car in history and the most popular sports car in history."

Supposedly, my vin number is 200 numbers away from being included in the recall for the same issue and that you have 43 pages of complaints about. Did I mention that the crossover tube is a backordered part because so many are needed because when you pull the current one out, it breaks and a new one is needed?

  • Summary: In 2011 Chevrolet acknowledged an issue with the fuel system as the the attached letter states. I was not the owner of the vehicle in 2011 and since the issue was not elevated to an official recall it did not show up on the car fax report and I thus was unaware of this potential safety hazard. My car has now developed all the symptoms of the fuel tank leak with fumes in the car and gas dripping on the garage floor when parked. Although my car only has 30,000 miles the end date for GM to provide repair was August 11, 2011. The significant risk to passengers, the car, and my home when the car is parked in the attached garage is unacceptable as caused by a faulty engineered fuel modification in this model year. The fuel leak is both a safety and environmental risk and should warrant a recall and GM to mitigate the costs. Their liability for a faulty engineered system should not have a time limit.

There is a manufacturer defect of the gas tank housing tube . I cannot drive the vehicle because it’s to dangerous and to costly to repair.

When pulling into the garage, there's fuel leaking if over one-half tank. Once the engine is cut off the fuel leak ceases. To control the issue, I keep the fuel level at less than one-half tank. A certified local mechanic determined the fuel tank and crossover tube cross connector needed to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The mechanic stated the failure was related to NHTSA Action Number: PE10015 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The approximate failure mileage was 26,500, when i bought the car. The mechanic stated that GM did issue a service bulletin around 2010 stating that GM would make repairs if the failure occurred within 10 years/100,000 miles. The local GM dealer will not repair my vehicle since it is out of time frame window. It's not fair to those who bought the car after the 10-year cutoff point. or do not drive these vehicles very much.

Anyhow, there's a special coverage adjustment which extended the warranty to 10 yrs/100,000 miles. I'm obviously outside of those parameters, but I feel that since the manufacturer admitted fault and stated that my particular VIN is affected, they should be held accountable for fixing a safety issue with my vehicle. How they got away with issuing a special coverage adjustment for such an issue rather than a simple recall is beyond me.

  • Summary: Have been in contact with 2 employees from GM, called and left voicemails and sent emails. No reply after it was requested that I take the Corvette to my local dealership for diagnosis. The ECL motor is not working property, causing the steering wheel to lock up and fuel supply to shut off. Sent attachment with diagnosis; however, no reply. GM indicated that this was previously fixed, but it obviously was not. My assertion is that there should not be a expiration date on safety recalls, and the ECL motor is not working properly creating a very dangerous situation. This happens every time that I drive the car. There have been several instances of me starting the car, pulling into traffic, and then the car shuts down. It has been very scary as I pull the key and wait 10 seconds to restart the car. Sometimes I have to do it twice. It is my contention that GM should be responsible for fixing this problem that was previously identified by GM as an issue/concern.

THE WASHERS MAY FRACTURE AND BECOME LOOSE OR FALL AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE, REDUCING CLAMP LOAD. SEPARATION OF THE CONTROL ARM BALL STUD AND STEERING KNUCKLE, DUE TO DISENGAGEMENT OF THE TAPERED ATTACHMENT AND RETAINING NUT, IS POSSIBLE.
  • Consequence: IF THE CONTROL ARM SEPARATES FROM THE KNUCKLE, THE AFFECTED CORNER OF THE VEHICLE WILL DROP AND THE CONTROL ARM WOULD BE FORCED DOWNWARD, CONTACTING THE WHEEL. THE AFFECTED WHEEL COULD TILT OUTWARD AND CREATE A DRAGGING ACTION THAT WOULD TEND TO SLOW THE VEHICLE AND CREATE A TENDENCY FOR THE VEHICLE TO TURN IN THE DIRECTION OF THE AFFECTED WHEEL. IN EXTREME SITUATIONS, THE AFFECTED WHEEL ASSEMBLY COULD SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE. SEPARATION OF THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY WOULD ALSO SEVER THAT WHEEL;S HYDRAULIC BRAKE HOSE AND RESULT IN DIMINISHED BRAKING PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BALL STUD JOINTS AND MEASURE THE TORQUE OF THE NUT FOR ALL FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS IN ALL MODELS AFFECTED AS WELL AS THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS ON THE XLR AND CORVETTE. IF THE TORQUE IS NOT AT SPECIFICATION, THE DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BALL STUD, THE KNUCKLE, AND THE NUT. IF THE TORQUE IS AT SPECIFICATION, THE DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE NUT/WASHER ASSEMBLY ONLY. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, THE ECL UNLOCKS THE STEERING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE IS DESIGNED SO THAT IF THE COLUMN FAILS TO UNLOCK WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED AND THE CUSTOMER TRIES TO DRIVE, THE FUEL SUPPLY WILL BE SHUT OFF SO THAT THE VEHICLE CANNOT MOVE WHEN THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE STEERED. IF VOLTAGE AT THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE IS LOW OR INTERRUPTED, HOWEVER, THE FUEL SHUT OFF MAY NOT OCCUR AND THE VEHICLE CAN BE ACCELERATED WHILE THE STEERING SYSTEM IS LOCKED. ALSO WHEN THE CONTROL SYSTEM SHOWS THAT THE ECL IS UNLOCKED AND THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN, THE LOCK PIN LOCATION CAN VARY. DEPENDING ON THE LOCATION OF THE LOCK PLATE RELATIVE TO THE SWITCH TRANSITION POINT, THERE COULD THEN BE CONTACT BETWEEN THE LOCK PLATE AND PIN CAUSING THE STEERING TO LOCK WHILE DRIVING .
  • Consequence: IF THIS OCCURS, A CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING.
  • Remedy: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, THE DEALER WILL DISABLE THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK BY REMOVING THE COLUMN LOCK PLATE. WHEN THE IGNITION KEY IS REMOVED, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WILL LOCK BUT THE STEERING COLUMN WILL NOT LOCK. ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, THE DEALER WILL REPROGRAM THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE, PERFORM A DIMENSIONAL CHECK OF THE COLUMN LOCK AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE LOCK PLATE. THE STEERING COLUMN ON THESE VEHICLES WILL CONTINUE TO LOCK WHEN THE KEY IS REMOVED. OWNER NOTIFICATION TO OWNERS OF 1997 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS BEGAN ON APRIL 26, 2004.     I have owned over 5 Corvettes, but unfortunately, this one has been the worst. It has had multiple issues, including both fuel senders failing, the AC quitting, the radio changing channels on its own, and the seat memory malfunctioning. Additionally, there has been wind noise, and the exhaust system required repairs. The engine even had to be replaced, and it quit on me while driving on I-95. Unfortunately, over the past year, it has spent more time in the dealer's garage than on the road. However, I am hopeful that Chevy will address these issues and improve their product in the future.

    I really enjoy the flashy looks of this car, it's quite eye-catching. Despite being 64, driving it makes me feel young again. It's one of the fastest cars on the road, aside from M3's and 911's, and I've beaten everyone in it. I even get attention from girls half my age when I'm driving this sports car. Overall, I absolutely love it!

    This is my 5th vette in 7 years. I must say they have done an excellent job on the '04 vette. Not much has changed from the '03 but a few things added are nice. If you have never driven a vette, you should definitely give it a try, even if you're a Ford person. You will see why the Vette is the real American Sports Car.

    The Corvette Z06 boasts better handling than a 911 Turbo, faster acceleration, and brakes on a dime. Its design is great, and the car has one of the best reliabilities for a sports car. The engine note from the 5.7 is throaty, and the exhaust system creates a nice rumble. The transmission is smooth. The only thing that could use some improvement is the interior, as it looks too plastic and generic for a GM vehicle. However, the two-tone colour of black and red in the Z06 really helps to give the Vette a good look.

    This car is amazing for boosting your confidence! It's incredibly fun to drive, with predictable handling even at the limit. The only downside is the 1st to 4th shift, which can be a bit unpredictable. As for the comments about the interior being cheap, I have to disagree. I think it's great! While it may not be as luxurious as a Maserati or Mercedes, it's only a fraction of the price!
