2000 Chevrolet Corvette problems
The Chevrolet Corvette is a line of American two-door, two-seater sports cars, manufactured and marketed by General Motors, under the Chevrolet marque, since 1953.
Over the course of eight generations, indicated sequentially as C1 to C8, the Corvette is noted for its performance, distinctive styling, lightweight fiberglass or composite bodywork, and competitive pricing. Since the cessation of Ford and Chrysler's competitors, the Corvette is the only two-seat sports car produced by a major United States auto manufacturer and serves as Chevrolet's halo car.
Since its introduction in 1953, the two-seater has steadily moved upmarket. Originally a relatively modest, lightweight 6‑cylinder convertible, subsequent introductions of V8 engines, competitive chassis innovations, and rear mid-engined layout have positioned the Corvette in the supercar class. The first three Corvette generations (1953–1983) employed body-on-frame construction, and since the C4 generation, introduced in 1983 as an early 1984 model, Corvettes have used GM's unibody Y‑body platform. All Corvettes used front mid-engine configuration for seven generations, through 2019, and transitioned to a rear mid-engined layout with the C8 generation.
In 1953, GM executives accepted a suggestion by Myron Scott, then the assistant director of the Public Relations department, to name the company's new sports car after the corvette, a small maneuverable warship. The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the 1953 GM Motorama as a concept car; production models went on sale later that year. In 1963, the second generation was introduced in coupe and convertible styles. Originally manufactured in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette has been produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1981, which is also the location of the National Corvette Museum.
The Corvette has become widely known as "America's Sports Car." Automotive News wrote that after being featured in the early 1960s television show Route 66, "the Corvette became synonymous with freedom and adventure," ultimately becoming both "the most successful concept car in history and the most popular sports car in history."

Common 2000 Chevrolet Corvette problems
The 2000 Chevrolet Corvette, a part of the C5 generation, is known for its performance and technological advances. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the issues reported by owners:
- Steering Column Locking: All C5 Corvettes, especially those equipped with a manual transmission, are known to have an issue with the steering column locking after ignition is disengaged and remaining locked after the vehicle operator starts the vehicle again. In rare instances, it has also been reported that the steering column has locked during vehicle operation. This issue can be resolved by replacing the current locking plate with a modified locking plate at a Chevrolet dealership.
- Seat Issues: The C5 Corvette seats have several known issues. Sliding hard across the bolster (the raised/contoured sections of the sitting area on either side of the central seat pad) can break it, causing it to flap from side to side. The wire springs in the seat bottom, and the bars in the bolsters are sometimes known to wear through the foam and leather. This situation can be fixed by placing a layer of burlap between the springs and the foam padding.
- Removable Roof: Many C5 Corvette Coupes with the removable roof tend to create a fair amount of wind noise and creaking during normal vehicle operation. While there is no known solution to completely eliminate the wind noise, the creaking can be reduced/eliminated by adding a lubricant to the weatherstriping seal around the roof.
- Fuel Gauge Issues: Certain types of gasoline (especially those with a high sulfur content) will cause the fuel gauge to falsely read empty. In some instances, running a fuel system cleaner through the gas tank has been known to resolve this issue.
- Leaking Battery: Many C5’s came with AC Delco Freedom batteries that had a tendency to experience exterior cracking near the battery posts. The leaking battery acid drips down the side of the battery, down the funnel-like battery support, straight down onto the....
- Power Steering Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the power steering, including leaks and failure.
- Rear Differential Leaks: There have been reports of leaks on the drivers side of the rear differential.
- Digital Display Problems: Some owners have reported issues with the digital display for the AC, such as it not being bright and readable in daylight.
- Fob Lock and Unlock Issues: Some owners have reported that the fob does not lock and unlock both doors every time.
These issues do not necessarily mean that every 2000 Chevrolet Corvette will experience these problems, but they are common complaints from owners. Regular maintenance and checks can help prevent or address these issues.
What are the problems with a 2000 Corvette?
Many late 2000 and 2001 C5 Corvette are known to burn an excessive amount of oil when the engine RPM's are kept over 4,000 during prolonged periods of operation. This is most commonly caused by ring flutter, which allows extra oil to seep past the oil control rings.
Are early 2000s Corvettes reliable?
Surprisingly Reliable and Solid.
Incredible handling and braking.
What year was the bad Corvette?
What is the worse Corvette of all time? 1975. The body was degraded from the original 1968 shark design with energy-absorbing boat anchors on each end. The engine was a sluggish 350 with only 165 hp, hardly enough to run the quarter in 16.1 seconds at 87.4 mph.
How long will a 2000 Corvette last?
A well-maintained C5 Corvette can last between 150,000 to 200,000 miles, translating to approximately 10-13 years for the average driver. However, maintenance and care vary widely among individual cars. Issues range from minor electrical problems to more significant concerns like the steering column lockups.

STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-03-23
- VIN: 1G1YY22G1Y5
- Components: STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THE EBCM TRACTION CONTROL MODULE , ABS CONTROL MODULES AND THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR FOR THE C5 CORVETTES MADE FROM 1997 THRU 2000 ARE NO LONGER MANUFACTURED BY GENERAL MOTORS OR LICENSED TO AN AFTER MARKET MANUFACTURER FOR PRODUCTION AS AN AFTER MARKET REPLACEMENT. WHEN THESE MODULES GO BAD THERE IS A RISK FOR ACCIDENTS OR DEATH WHILE DRIVING AS THE ABS SYSTEM THAT WORKS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THESE MODULES WILL LOCK UP ONE OR MORE OF THE BRAKES CAUSING THE DRIVER TO SWERVE INTO OTHER LANES. THIS HAPPENED TO ME WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR FAILED. WE CORVETTE OWNERS ARE FORCED TO DRIVE WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL OFF BECAUSE WE CANNOT FIND NEW REPLACEMENT EBCM MODULES, ABS MODULES OF STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSORS . OUR ONLY RECOURSE IS TO BUY A USED UNIT FROM A TOTALED 1997 THRU 2000 CORVETTE AT HIGH PRICES AND THE ARE ALSO DEFECTIVE AT TIMES ACCORDING TO CORVETTE FPRUM MEMBERS. GENERAL MOTORS CONTINUES TO LICENSE AFTER MARKET MANUFACTURERS TO MAKE REPLACEMENT EBCM MODULES, AFBS MODULES AND STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSORS FOR CORVETTES MANUFACTURED IN 2001 THRU 2004 SO WHY CAN'T THE LICENSE AN AFTER MARKET AUTO PART MANUFACTURER TO MAKE THESE SENSORS FOR 1997 THRU 2000 CORVETTES? CAN THE US GOVERNMENT FORCE GM TO MAKE THESE PARTS FOR THE 1997 THRU 2000 CORVETTE DUE TO FACT THAT THESE PARTS ARE VITAL FOR THE 1997 THRU 2000 CORVETTE TO BE SAFE ON THE ROAD??

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-01-22
- VIN: 1G1YY32G2Y5
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I EXPERIENCED LOSS OF CONTROL BY SKIDDING AND ALMOST LEAVING THE ROAD TOWARD A DROPOFF WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE SINCE THE ABS, ACTIVE HANDLING, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN MALFUNCTIONING AT 35MPH ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD APPLYING THE BRAKE AS I WAS GOING AROUND A SHARP CURVE I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION OF THE ABS/AH SYSTEM IS A FAULTY EBCM WHICH IS KNOWN BY COUNTLESS MEMBERS OF THE CORVETTE OWNERS COMMUNITY AS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED A LONG TIME AGO. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITHOUT AN ACTIVE RECALL I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR. SEVERAL TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED IN VARIED SITUATIONS AND I CANNOT RELY ON THESE SAFETY FEATURES TO SAVE MY LIFE IF SOMETHING OCCURS THAT WOULD SEND ME OUT OF CONTROL INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE OR OVER A STEEP CLIFF LIKE IN THE CLOSE CALL I MENTIONED EARLIER IN THIS TEXT. GM DOES NOT VALUE MY LIFE AS MUCH AS I DO AND THIS RECALL WOULD HAVE BANKRUPTED THEM SHORTLY AFTER 2000. I'M SURE THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF WRECKED CORVETTES AND LOSS OF LIFE DUE TO THIS FAILURE TO RECALL THEM SO THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT 20 YEARS LATER

I COULD HAVE TAKEN THE CAR OUT FOR A DRIVE AND HAD THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP AS IM DRIVING. DOING RESEARCH ONLINE AND READING THE RECALL BULLETIN IS IT POSSIBLE THE REPAIR WAS NOT DONE PROPERLY? I DON'T KNOW, I DID NOT OWN THE CAR WHEN THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED. I WAS GIVEN A CASE # OF [XXX] WHEN I CALLED 1-800-630-2438. PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED PICTURES. - Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: STEERING:COLUMN LOCKING:ANTI-THEFT DEVICE
- Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRONIC COLUMN LOCK SYSTEMS (ECL), WHEN THE IGNITION SWITCH IS TURNED TO "LOCK," THE ECL SYSTEM PREVENTS TURNING OF THE STEERING SYSTEM. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, THE ECL UNLOCKS THE STEERING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE IS DESIGNED SO THAT IF THE COLUMN FAILS TO UNLOCK WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED AND THE CUSTOMER TRIES TO DRIVE, THE FUEL SUPPLY WILL BE SHUT OFF SO THAT THE VEHICLE CANNOT MOVE WHEN THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE STEERED. IF VOLTAGE AT THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE IS LOW OR INTERRUPTED, HOWEVER, THE FUEL SHUT OFF MAY NOT OCCUR AND THE VEHICLE CAN BE ACCELERATED WHILE THE STEERING SYSTEM IS LOCKED. ALSO WHEN THE CONTROL SYSTEM SHOWS THAT THE ECL IS UNLOCKED AND THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN, THE LOCK PIN LOCATION CAN VARY. DEPENDING ON THE LOCATION OF THE LOCK PLATE RELATIVE TO THE SWITCH TRANSITION POINT, THERE COULD THEN BE CONTACT BETWEEN THE LOCK PLATE AND PIN CAUSING THE STEERING TO LOCK WHILE DRIVING .
- Consequence: IF THIS OCCURS, A CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING.
- Remedy: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, THE DEALER WILL DISABLE THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK BY REMOVING THE COLUMN LOCK PLATE. WHEN THE IGNITION KEY IS REMOVED, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WILL LOCK BUT THE STEERING COLUMN WILL NOT LOCK. ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, THE DEALER WILL REPROGRAM THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE, PERFORM A DIMENSIONAL CHECK OF THE COLUMN LOCK AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE LOCK PLATE. THE STEERING COLUMN ON THESE VEHICLES WILL CONTINUE TO LOCK WHEN THE KEY IS REMOVED. OWNER NOTIFICATION TO OWNERS OF 1997 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS BEGAN ON APRIL 26, 2004. OWNERS OF 1998 THROUGH 2004 VEHICLES (EXCEPT 1997-1998 MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES) WILL BE NOTIFIED BEGINNING ON AUGUST 2, 2004. THE REMAINING OWNERS (1997-1998 MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES) WILL BE NOTIFIED LATER IN 2004, WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: SEAT BELTS:FRONT
- Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE LAP BELT WEBBING CAN TWIST ALLOWING THE WEBBING TO BECOME JAMMED IN THE RETRACTOR.
- Consequence: WHEN THE BELT WEBBING BECOMES JAMMED IN THE RETRACTOR, THE SEAT BELT MAY BE UNUSABLE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL INSERTS TO THE BELT WEB GUIDE OF EACH LAP BELT RETRACTOR.

I owned a C4 1984 for 8 years. It was a fun sports car, but there is no comparison to the C5. The top quality and greatly improved features make it run with the best. I can't wait until the C6s come out in 2005!
-
I have owned several vettes and even 4 other cars. This is by far the best. It's a true all-around sports car that can handle any weather. I really don't know how they could improve it.

Hey there! I own the 2000 Millennium Yellow Six-Speed Vette and I absolutely love it! Although, I did have a few issues with it at first, such as the locked steering wheel, but GM eventually fixed it. Overall, it's a fantastic car!

This vette is the first I've owned and I love it! It's an amazing vehicle. I highly recommend it.

This car has been well taken care of and is in great condition. It has been garaged and only driven one week per month by an elderly driver. While it is a great car, it is a bit too much for me at my age of 88. It comes with a targa top that can be removed to make it a convertible and is loaded with options.

One year later, the dream turned into a nightmare. It all started with a few trips to the dealership for the fuel gauge sensor, locked steering, alternators, batteries, headlight motor, CD player, body control module, fog lights, and trunk that would not open. Unfortunately, the dealership even lost my keys. There were a few other issues, but the list goes on. It's been quite an ordeal, but I know I'm not alone. GM offered me a 10-year warranty to rebuild my confidence, but what I really want is a car that I can drive without having to constantly visit the service center. Please, enough is enough!

I encountered some difficulties with the local dealers in Lake County, Florida. However, I have decided to replace my car with a BMW 500 series.
