2007 Chevrolet Corvette problems
The Chevrolet Corvette is a line of American two-door, two-seater sports cars, manufactured and marketed by General Motors, under the Chevrolet marque, since 1953.
Over the course of eight generations, indicated sequentially as C1 to C8, the Corvette is noted for its performance, distinctive styling, lightweight fiberglass or composite bodywork, and competitive pricing. Since the cessation of Ford and Chrysler's competitors, the Corvette is the only two-seat sports car produced by a major United States auto manufacturer and serves as Chevrolet's halo car.
Since its introduction in 1953, the two-seater has steadily moved upmarket. Originally a relatively modest, lightweight 6‑cylinder convertible, subsequent introductions of V8 engines, competitive chassis innovations, and rear mid-engined layout have positioned the Corvette in the supercar class. The first three Corvette generations (1953–1983) employed body-on-frame construction, and since the C4 generation, introduced in 1983 as an early 1984 model, Corvettes have used GM's unibody Y‑body platform. All Corvettes used front mid-engine configuration for seven generations, through 2019, and transitioned to a rear mid-engined layout with the C8 generation.
In 1953, GM executives accepted a suggestion by Myron Scott, then the assistant director of the Public Relations department, to name the company's new sports car after the corvette, a small maneuverable warship. The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the 1953 GM Motorama as a concept car; production models went on sale later that year. In 1963, the second generation was introduced in coupe and convertible styles. Originally manufactured in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette has been produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1981, which is also the location of the National Corvette Museum.
The Corvette has become widely known as "America's Sports Car." Automotive News wrote that after being featured in the early 1960s television show Route 66, "the Corvette became synonymous with freedom and adventure," ultimately becoming both "the most successful concept car in history and the most popular sports car in history."

Common 2007 Chevrolet Corvette problems
The Chevrolet Corvette 2007 is a popular sports car that has been praised for its performance and style. However, like any other vehicle, it is not immune to issues and problems. Here are some of the most common problems reported by owners of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette:
- Harmonic Balancer Failure: The harmonic balancer is a component of the engine that helps to reduce vibration and prevent damage to the engine. In the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette, the harmonic balancer has been known to fail, causing the car to wobble and potentially leading to engine damage. This issue is more common in base C6 Corvettes and is one of the most common engine-related problems.
- Airbag Light Issues: The airbag light is designed to alert the driver when there is a problem with the airbag system. In the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette, the airbag light has been known to come on for no apparent reason. This issue is often caused by a loose wire or electrical connector underneath the driver's seat. While it is not a major safety issue, it can be frustrating for drivers.
- Fuel Tank Issues: Some owners of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette have reported issues with the fuel tank. In some cases, the fuel pump or fuel sending unit has cracked, causing fuel to leak and potentially leading to a fire. This issue is more common in 2007 and later models and can be expensive to repair.
- Magnetic Ride Control Problems: The Magnetic Selective Ride Control system is designed to adjust the shock absorbers to provide a smoother ride. However, in the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette, this system has been known to fail, causing the car to ride roughly and potentially leading to damage to the suspension. This issue is more common in high-mileage C6 Corvettes.
In summary, the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette is a great sports car, but like any other vehicle, it is not immune to problems. The most common issues reported by owners include fuel level sensor failure, harmonic balancer failure, airbag light issues, fuel tank problems, and magnetic ride control issues. If you are considering purchasing a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette, it is important to be aware of these potential issues and to have them addressed by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible.
Are 2007 Corvettes good?
They are very reliable cars overall. The biggest concerns you would have to worry about on a C6 would be the harmonic balancer or an oil pan gasket leak (both labor intensive repairs). Everything else is minor. Just maintain in properly and you're good to go.
What years of Corvette to stay away from?
We recommend staying away from the 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2013 models. These may require pricey fixes, especially since the car is one of the rarer choices. The biggest fault in these models of the C6 Corvette is in the transmission.

Doing a search online it appears this is a common issue with this vehicle and that a recall/repair was created for owners however my 2007 (not the original owner) I suspect has since expired. In my opinion any defects that puts the owner and personal property at risk should be covered regardless of age.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-25
- VIN: 1G1YY26U275
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: We are having an issue with our vehicle leaking fuel on left side fuel tank. The vehicle is constant smell of gas on that left side. It has been a safety concern for us and the dealer wants us to pay at least $1200 just for diagnostic alone. There was a Special Coverage Adjustment for this issue but we were never notified. The notice is Special Coverage Adjustment 15682. I spoke with GM/Chevrolet Customer Assistance and spoke with [XXX] he said I would have to get diagnostic and that the fee could be applied to repair. I understand there is a time limit on most things but it seems that something that relates to safety issue should not have and end date. This is a type of car that most people just have as a collector car and you can see by the low miles that this is the case. I am not trying to get a repair on a vehicle that has 100,000 or more miles. It may seem trivial but this is important to me. - Components: POWER TRAIN,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: For last 3 years whenever I fill my vehicle with gas the garage smells of gas until the tank is less than half a tank... The other major issue is the vehicle will not come out of park multiple time. This has put me in embarrassing situations many times. I stay away from driving the vehicle so many times when I could be in physical danger .
SUSPENSION,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-11
- VIN: 1G1YY26U875
- Components: SUSPENSION,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
- Summary: The Body Control Module has failed and there are no replacement parts available except used parts. The BCM is hard coded with the VIN. If you use a BCM from another car, certain safety systems are deactivated such as the air bags. The BCM is central to the electronic architecture so all other systems are at risk. The unit can be responsible for the car not starting, the headlights not working, the power windows and door locks failing, or in my case the active suspension not functioning. Since BCM's are widely used, this is a looming major safety issue for the nation because GM quit making new ones, no one else makes these parts, no one can repair the units. I know a number of C6 Corvette owners are using used parts which deactivates the air bags and the security system.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-12-15
- VIN: 1G1YY25U875
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I started smelling gas from my car two weeks ago. I discovered on Corvette Forum.com that this is a common problem. If the car is filled up over 1/2 tank gas will come out of the top and drip on the exhaust, which is very concerning. Chevrolet claims that the cars with this issue were recalled, but mine was not. This is one of two reoccurring issues with the C6 Corvette, and unfortunately, I am a victim of both. The other is the shifter locks in place, and the car will not come out of park. Chevrolet does not own up to the responsibility for this defective engineering as well. Please add me to the complaints for these two recallable issues as Chevrollet refuses to address the issue. Fuel dripping on the exhaust preplexes me why NHTSA has not got involved already.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-01
- VIN: 1g1yy36u075
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: There is a very strong fuel odor coming from the car when I shut it down, especially when I park in the garage. The smell is overwhelming. Seems like it's coming from the rear part of the car, drivers side. I don't see fuel leaking nor on the garage floor, but it is very evident there is a problem. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. thank you
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-12

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-15

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-23
- VIN: 1g1yy25u175
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Every time the fuel tank is filled to full (not past the click), there is a very bad fuel smell but no fuel leaking on the ground. I bought the car with 69000 and have noticed it every time I have filled the tank to full but never past the "click". I have read of many others having the same problem. I am afraid to park my car inside my garage. I have had fuel system parts replaced but it still continues. No leak has ever been noted.
FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-06-02
- VIN: 1G1YY36UX75
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL
- Summary: Smell gas around and in car. Cannot see where it is coming from no sign on ground continuing issue for at least a year. I do not use the car . Afraid of fire. My primary car has been in for repair last 30 days and I am forced to use this car
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-03-01
- VIN: 1G1YY26U575
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: This particular Corvette C6 model (2005 through 2013 model years) has a well known and documented problem with the automatic transmissions. Upon engine startup, it oftentimes will not shift out of the Park gear. When the Chevrolet Customer Service people were called about this, their response was that they are well aware of this problem with the C6 model years. The Customer Service people said that a Recall was not issued because the way to address this problem is to: Shut off the engine, put the ignition in the Accessory mode, then try and shift the transmission into Neutral. If it is able to shift into Neutral, then start the engine. Once the engine starts, then try and shift the transmission into the Drive or Reverse gear. If this sequence doesn't work, we were told just to keep repeating this sequence over and over. There have been occasions when we had to repeat this sequence at least half a dozen times and there have also been occasions where we were stranded in parking lots and had to leave the car and come back to it later to try again. This is a safety concern due to the real possibility of being stranded at night in parking lots. There aren't any warning lights or messages. There also aren't any advanced warnings, in terms of symptoms. The only way the problem manifests itself, is when the car cannot be shifted out of the Park gear. Whenever the car is brought into service, including at Chevrolet dealers for such items as oil changes, the mechanics try shifting it out of the Park gear and when they can't, they will call and ask us what to do. The added concern here is that if the mechanic physically forces the shifter out of the Park gear, the entire shifter and possibly the transmission will be damaged. We are the original owners of the car and it only has 18,000 miles on it. This problem first appeared about two years ago but it is happening much more often now.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-30
- VIN: 1G1YY25U675
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: The airbag indicator light on the dash of the vehicle periodically lights up indicating a fault with the system. The car was checked by a dealer who could find no issue. The light resets if you cycle the vehicle on/off, but the problem returns randomly when driving the vehicle. The airbag system disabling itself without warning puts the driver at risk of not having the system deploy under conditions it should. The system resetting the warning to every on/off cycle is also misleading because unless you experience the behavior there is no reliable way to know that there is an issue with the SRS system on the vehicle.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-02-24
- VIN: 1g1yy26e975
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: On 2/24/18 while driving the vehicle in first gear taking off from a stoplight averaging a speed no higher than 30mph and not yet entering 2nd gear the vehicle made a loud screeching noise from the motor area and then abruptly stopped and shut off the engine. A dashboard warning of reduced motor speed appeared and the vehicle stayed in accessory mode only allowing the interior electrical systems to operate. The roadway that I was on being 3 lanes wide and at time of engine failure I was in the middle lane, I was forced to attempt to take vehicle off main roadway onto a side street. Being that the engine abruptly stopped, speed was lost rather quickly putting me in a dangerous situation where the vehicles behind me and next to me could potentially hit me endangering my safety. Additionally I had to cross over in front of oncoming traffic as the only available safe stop was a side street was on the opposite side of road. At that point I was able to stop the vehicle off the roadway onto a side street where the vehicle was then towed back to our residence. The vehicle was then later towed to our mechanic where bore scope inspection revealed a thrown piston and rod. At that time we authorized a tear down to be completed by the mechanic that revealed a thrown piston and rod in the 1st cylinder, which we have since found out is a known and common cylinder to fail. The rod was thrown through the block and piston shattering which made this catastrophic motor failure not allowing repair to be completed and the only option being a full motor replacement. The mechanic advised this was due to a faulty valve in the cylinder head. Symptoms I feel may have been related and ultimately contributed to this failure date back as far as the date I purchased the vehicle on 4/2/16 where vehicle engine made irregular noises. Vehicle was seen 4/18/16 by Chevy stating noises normal and characteristic to alternator, as well as 11/14/17 when a cylinder 3 injector malfunction was detected.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-06-15
- VIN: 1G1YY25EX75
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Gas smell in the entire car after filling up the tank because gas tanks leak and it’s dangerous because the fumes are strong enough that if there was an ignite and it was irked in a garage the garage and house would burn down

2007 Chevrolet Corvette recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles manufactured March 29, 2004, through June 22, 2007. In the affected vehicles, the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) housing can expand and cause the headlamp low beam relay control circuit wire to bend. If the wire is repeatedly bent, it may fracture causing a loss of low beam headlamp illumination.
- Consequence: The loss of low beam headlamp illumination will decrease the driver's visibility, as well as the vehicle's conspicuity to other motorists, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a jumper wire to correct this condition, free of charge. The recall began January 2, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 13146. Note: Model year 2008-2013 Chevrolet Corvettes will be covered under customer satisfaction program number 14203 for the same issue.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: STRUCTURE:BODY:ROOF AND PILLARS
- Summary: GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005 THROUGH 2007 CORVETTE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A REMOVABLE ROOF AND MODEL YEAR 2006 AND 2007 CORVETTE Z06 VEHICLES. THE ADHESIVE BETWEEN THE ROOF PANEL AND THE FRAME MAY SEPARATE. IF THERE IS A PARTIAL SEPARATION, THE DRIVER MAY NOTICE ONE OR MORE SYMPTOMS, SUCH AS A SNAPPING NOISE WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPS, WIND NOISE, POOR ROOF PANEL FIT, ROOF PANEL MOVEMENT/BOUNCE WHEN A DOOR OR HATCH IS CLOSED, OR A WATER LEAK IN THE HEADLINER.
- Consequence: IF THERE IS A COMPLETE SEPARATION, THE ROOF PANEL MAY DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE. IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN, IT COULD STRIKE A FOLLOWING VEHICLE AND CAUSE INJURY AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW DESIGN ROOF PANEL FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING APRIL 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 OR AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

I woke up one day and decided it was time to treat myself to a sports car. I went to the dealer and walked out with the Vette 1 hour later. This is by far the nicest car I ever drove. I was never a Vette person until I got behind the wheel and drove it.
-
This car is definitely a fun ride with awesome acceleration that commands respect. However, the interior tends to heat up due to the engine and transmission, which could have been better insulated by Chevrolet. The manual transmission is a bit spongy, but it adds to the car's playful nature that eggs you on to go fast. The MPG in the city is 14.5 and on the highway, it's 24.5. Although the interior quality is not the best, the car comes with a nice touch of navigation. Unfortunately, there is no Bluetooth connectivity, and you need to subscribe to Onstar cell plan to use the hands-free phone. The seats lack lumbar support, and the rear hatch needs to be shut hard to close. The resale value is not great, so it might be better to consider buying a used z06 with pampered miles.
-
Incredible acceleration! The engine sound is great, and it handles like a big go cart. The interior is also really nice. This is by far the quickest car I've ever driven, and I've driven some fast ones. It reminds me of the song, 'The Best is Yet to Come' - you think you've flown before, but babe, you ain't left the ground!
-
Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my first GM product. As a self-described Mustang nut, I have been critical of Vettes since the late 1970s. However, after test driving a used 2006 Z06 model, I was completely smitten! We bought our Z06 on June 30, 2007 and I am now convinced and converted from Ford 'faithfulness.' This is definitely the performance car for under $100,000.00! Thanks for letting me share my story with you.
-
This car is amazing! I'm so impressed with GM's latest model. They've come close before, but this time they've really hit the mark. What do I mean by that? Well, for the first time, they haven't let price hold them back from creating the ultimate American muscle car. It's truly a masterpiece with no limitations. In fact, you'd have to spend at least 200K to find a car that even comes close to its all-around performance.

This is actually my second Corvette. I love the performance and the sleek lines of the exterior. However, the hard plastic isn't so attractive and the roof creaks and squeaks in the heat, which can become annoying after driving on bumpy roads and long stretches. Additionally, the C6 model has a pretty badly-designed harmonic balancer, which has been a known design flaw for at least a few years now.

I have owned my 2007 Corvette since October 13, 2006. Although it has great performance and looks amazing, I have experienced some issues with the electronics in the alarm system, severe rattling from behind the dashboard due to broken welds and roof pins that were too small, and a bad shock absorber. The first repair to fix the broken weld took almost 6 weeks, and unfortunately, after a month and less than 500 miles, the rattle returned. As a confident owner of this car, I would suggest that the manufacturer should improve the quality of their product to match the price tag.
