The Chevrolet Corvette is a line of American two-door, two-seater sports cars, manufactured and marketed by General Motors, under the Chevrolet marque, since 1953.

The first three Corvette generations (1953–1983) employed body-on-frame construction, and since the C4 generation, introduced in 1983 as an early 1984 model, Corvettes have used GM's unibody Y‑body platform. All Corvettes used front mid-engine configuration for seven generations, through 2019, and transitioned to a rear mid-engined layout with the C8 generation.

In 1953, GM executives accepted a suggestion by Myron Scott, then the assistant director of the Public Relations department, to name the company's new sports car after the corvette, a small maneuverable warship. The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the 1953 GM Motorama as a concept car; production models went on sale later that year. In 1963, the second generation was introduced in coupe and convertible styles. Originally manufactured in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette has been produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1981, which is also the location of the National Corvette Museum.

The Corvette has become widely known as "America's Sports Car." Automotive News wrote that after being featured in the early 1960s television show Route 66, "the Corvette became synonymous with freedom and adventure," ultimately becoming both "the most successful concept car in history and the most popular sports car in history."

  • Radiator Issues: It is quite common for road debris and trash to get sucked up between the radiator and the A/C condenser, thereby blocking air flow and causing the engine to overheat. Additionally, the side tanks on the factory radiator are constructed of plastic and may be cracked and leaking on a higher mileage car.
  • A/C Problems: All 1996 Corvettes are subject to one of two A/C problems, including failure to be able to raise or lower cabin temperature by pushing on the temperature up/down control buttons on the dash or air conditioning blows on the floor or through the defrost vents only but not through the dash vents. These are indications of a bad A/C Program Module.
  • Low Pressure Tire Warning System (LTPWS) Sensor Bands and Sensors: The sensor bands and sensors are prone to breakage, and they are unique for each wheel, making it difficult to find GM factory replacement components.

The tires were 13 years old and the all weather stripping needed to be replaced, among other issues. There were too many problems to list and the car should have been listed as a project car.

It's a stunning car, and I often receive compliments on its appearance. However, I have had some issues with its reliability. I have had to replace the water pump and fix a transmission leak, and now I have noticed that the oil pan gasket is leaking. Despite its reputation as a well-built car, I have found it to be less reliable than expected.

    Great car! It's fun, extremely fast, and although I've read that the air conditioning vent can be problematic with all c4 corvettes, I still think it's a fantastic vehicle. As someone who has owned a lot of muscle cars, I can confidently say that this vette is the most powerful one I've had. Overall, it's a great car!

    Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 1992 5.0 Mustang and my automatic Vette. While my Mustang was virtually problem-free for 8.5 years, I decided to try something new with my Vette. However, I found that the automatic transmission took away some of the fun factor that I was used to. The handling was a bit boring and benign, especially compared to the manual transmission that I test drove. I did experience some vibration through the steering wheel and dash shimmy, which I later found out was due to low structural integrity. I had the conv. X frame braces installed and it made a big difference. Unfortunately, I did have to replace a few parts under warranty, including the water pump, intake manifold gasket, starter, and climate control unit. I wasn't too happy with the service at Young Chev. and Steakley Chev., but I did find that Corvettes of Dallas in Carrolton, TX does quality work. Overall, I think the Vette is awesome with the 6-speed, but a bit boring with the automatic.

    This is a really enjoyable car. The performance is fantastic, the suspension is comfortable, and the brakes are good enough. What I appreciate the most is the cozy cockpit atmosphere of the interior, and the sleek C4 body design.

    I have always wanted a Corvette. I finally got one, even though it's used, it is in pristine condition. I have had to put a new water pump and replace the airflow guard underneath, and the antenna won't retract all the way, but I still love the car. It has great handling and great power!

    I bought this car back in February of 1997 and it was my everyday driver for four years. The driving experience was quite unique, as you feel like you're in the cockpit of a jet when you first get in. However, the car's relative heavy weight and heavy steering due to wide tires can make driving a bit of a chore sometimes. On the bright side, these traits also make the car feel very stable on smooth roads. Do keep in mind that bumpy roads can unsettle the front end and cause some interior squeaks, so it might not be the best choice for a daily driver. Additionally, removing the top can cause some shimmying over uneven roads. The motor is quite smooth, although it might be a bit intimidating for some female drivers, especially in first and second gears.
