The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the 1953 GM Motorama as a concept car; production models went on sale later that year. In 1963, the second generation was introduced in coupe and convertible styles. Originally manufactured in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette has been produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1981, which is also the location of the National Corvette Museum.
The Corvette has become widely known as "America's Sports Car." Automotive News wrote that after being featured in the early 1960s television show Route 66, "the Corvette became synonymous with freedom and adventure," ultimately becoming both "the most successful concept car in history and the most popular sports car in history."

- Summary: Smelling gas fumes when parked. There were no other indicators of an issue. I took car to dealership, turns out there is a flaw with the fuel system, causing a leak at the top of the tank. Fuel was leaking through a valve and into the inside of the car frame. This issue should be a recall. The dealer would not let me leave with the vehicle due to the severity of the leak/fumes and fear of combustion! This was addressed as TSB Special Coverage Adjustment 15682 Primary Tank Module Flange Fuel and Vapor Leaks. However, my car was out of warranty/out of the range of the TSB, and I had to pay full price for the repair ($3,000 USD). The attached service bulletin was just released by GM today: Special Coverage Adjustment 15682 Primary Tank Module Flange Fuel and Vapor Leaks Reference Number: N150682 Release Date: July 2016 Condition Some 2007 to 2009 model year Cadillac XLR and 2007 to 2013 model year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles may have a condition where a fuel odor is detected, fuel droplets appear below the left-hand fuel tank with fuel gauge level above 1/2, or a malfunction indicator lamp illuminates due to a leak path in the left-hand fuel pump module flange. Special Coverage Adjustment This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after July 25, 2016, are covered by this special coverage and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Claims with repair orders prior to July 25, 2016, must be submitted to the Service Contract provider. Correction Dealers are to replace the left hand fuel tank fuel pump module. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.

- Summary: Purchased my 2012 Corvette Grand Sport used on 06/08/2023 and the first night parked in my garage noticed a seriously strong fuel smell. Have run down to half tank and parked it again and still have the strong smell. Dropped off at my local Chevrolet dealer for inspection. Research shows this is a common issue with this model year. Chevrolet has issued service bulletin15682 for this apparent issue. Mileage is only 66k but the bulletin has a year cap of 10 years from in service date. I am searching for information as to if this has been revised and if my vehicle is still covered.

- Summary: The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked inside the garage there was an abnormally strong gasoline odor coming from the vehicle. Upon inspection, there was no fuel leak visible inside the garage. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed of a Manufacturer’s Service Campaign that addressed the failed primary fuel tank flange leak, but the Extended Warranty coverage had expired. The failure mileage was 36,000.

- Summary: We smelled gasoline from time to time since June of 2022 & could not see any leaks. Approximately October 22 2022 we contacted Premier Chevy Buick GMC in Beatrice Nebraska because the smell was really bad. After they inspected our car they said it had a defective fuel pump that had cracked & it was a known common problem with the Corvettes. They advised that General Motors would repair them at no cost because of a 10 year extended coverage. They then called us the next day to tell us that it would not be covered because it missed the coverage date by 2 months. We contacted Chevrolet and we were told that it could possibly be covered under good will. They sent the dealer paperwork & have been in contact a few times. Today we received a call from Chevrolet advising we would not be paid for the repair. This should have been a safety recall because of the danger! We were never told about the possibility of the fuel pumps cracking. When we picked up the car the dealer advised it would also require a wheel alignment too because the rear suspension had been removed to do the repair.

Other drivers (owner forums) have reported significant safety hazards related to this system failure. Reported issues include system-driven steering and braking actions that lead to mishandling of the car that could put the driver, passengers, other drivers, and property at risk. At this point in time, the problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. At this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There have been no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the prior to the failure, which occurred on 8/12/21. Currently, the car is shifting gears hard and the engine is running in a very rough manner.

THE POWERED TELESCOPING STEERING WHEEL PUSHED THE ASSEMBLY OUT OF PLACE CAUSING THE FAULT. I DISCONNECTED THE STEERING WHEEL SENSOR TO PREVENT ANY FURTHER ACTIVATION OF THE ACTIVE HANDLING.

THEN, I ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE CAR BUT THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. HAVING NOT OPENED THE WINDOWS, I WAS LOST AS HOW TO GET OUT OF MY CAR. I MADE ONE MORE ATTEMPT TO START THE ENGINE BUT COULD NOT. IN FACT MY INSTRUMENTS WERE DEAD. AS I WAS WITHOUT MY CELL PHONE, I SAT PERPLEXED AT MY PREDICAMENT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. I OPERATED THE DRIVE WINDOW DOWN BUTTON BUT NOTHING HAPPEN. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I TRIED THE DRIVER DOOR WINDOW AGAIN AND THE WINDOW OPENED ABOUT INCH. I REPEATED THE PROCESS FOR 10 OR SO MINUTES UNTIL THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WAS COMPLETELY DOWN. AT THIS JUNCTURE, I WAS ABLE TO CLIMB OUT OF THE DRIVER'S WINDOW TO SAFETY. I THEN REACHED INTO THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO RELEASE THE CAR'S HOOD. I DID NOT FIND ANY VISIBLE LOSE CONNECTION. THE BATTERY CONNECTIONS WERE CORRODED. I CLEAN THE POST TERMINALS AND THE CABLE CLAMS. HAVING DONE SO I ATTEMPTED TO ENTER THE CAR BUT THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN. I HAVE PURCHASED A NEW AC DELCO BATTERY AND ALL IS WELL. MY ISSUES ARE 1. I HAD NO INDICATION PRIOR TO THE EVENT THAT MY CORVETTE INSTRUMENTS GAVE ME NO INDICATION OF A BATTERY FAILURE OR ANY ALTERNATOR FAILURES. 2. I HAD NO PASSENGER COMPARTMENT ACCESS TO THE INSIDE TRUNK RELEASE STRAP FOR DRIVERS DOOR. 3. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE EVEN IF IT IS A RARE EVENT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.

I WAS COMING INTO TUSCALOOSA AND MANAGED WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE ENOUGH AREA LIGHTING TO SAFELY COME TO A STOP AND PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. I TRIED WHAT I KNEW TO TRY BUT LIGHTS WOULD NOT COME BACK ON. I WAS ABLE TO HOLD THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IN THE FLASH POSITION TO GET HIGH BEAMS TO WORK. I TURNED AROUND AND HEADED BACK HOME CONTINUING TO HOLD TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IN FLASH POSITION. UNFORTUNATELY, I WAS BLINDING THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT MIGHT'VE HAPPENED IF I HAD BEEN ON A COUNTRY ROAD WITH NO LIGHTNING. I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT RECALL ISSUES ON EARLIER MODELS OF THE C6 I'VE ALSO READ THIS COULD BE A FAULTY RELAY PROBLEM. MY CAR HAS LOW MILES AND LESS THAN 25% OF THOSE MILES WERE NIGHT DRIVING. CAR IS GARAGE KEPT AND HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN IN THE RAIN SO I KNOW HOW WELL IT HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. PLEASE ADVISE IF OTHERS HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEM

AFTER READING ONLINE FORUMS IT APPEARS TO BE A RECURRING SAFETY ISSUE/ HAZARD WITH THE C6 GENERATION CORVETTE. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE BUT TO SMELL FRESH GASOLINE IS DEFINITELY HAZARDOUS.

- Components: STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS
- Summary: GENERAL MOTORS (GM) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 CHEVROLET CORVETTE COUPE VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 24, 2011, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 1, 2011, FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NUMBER 206, "DOOR LOCKS AND DOOR RETENTION COMPONENTS". THE REAR HATCH HINGES MAY NOT MEET THE LOAD REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIED IN THE SAFETY STANDARD.
- Consequence: THE REAR HATCH COULD SEPARATE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY.
- Remedy: GM WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH REAR HATCH HINGES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 14, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438.

This has been a lot of fun compared to my BMW. The insurance is cheaper, it feels more like a sports car, and definitely has the power!

I had a 3LT GS car with automatic transmission and every option except navigation. Although it was a pleasant car to drive, it was not very exciting. The car was so powerful that its acceleration capability was essentially useless in an urban environment - it would have been better suited to a place with wide open roads. However, the car's bulk inhibited the fun factor. It is well known that a slow car driven at 9/10ths is more fun than a fast one driven at 6/10ths. The car was more of a GT car than a sports car. As many have said before, the seats were quite poor. I had to have the lumbar bag replaced in the driver's seat, after which it was better, but still not good. The main irritation was the front splitter, which was very vulnerable to damage while parking. I would advise against the GS in favor of a base car because of that splitter.

Whether you love it or hate it, owning a Corvette is an amazing experience for car enthusiasts. As someone who prioritizes owning one, I can attest to its appeal. Even if you're a Ford, Dodge, or exotic car lover who dislikes Corvettes, you'll fall in love once you get behind the wheel. Similarly, if a car looks and drives great, I'll want it regardless of my initial feelings towards it. The ZR1 is one of those cars that deserves much love and appreciation for the hard work put in by the GM team.

Just got this car. It's so much fun to drive with lots of power and easy to squeal the tires. It's definitely the best bang for the buck. I got an auto trans and the 6 speed is pretty good, I think it does as good a job as a manual. And of course, you always have the paddle shifters.
