Latest negative Toyota Tundra car reviews

  1. Alek Jones 2025-04-18

    Vehicle year: 2002

Your 2002 Tundra LTD access cab 4x4 initially seemed solid, but unfortunately developed a pronounced vibration in the front axle. This vibration caused the floorboards and control pedals to shake, which was quite uncomfortable. Interestingly, the vibration would go away after driving for 10 minutes or engaging 4-wheel drive. When I brought this issue to the dealer, they suggested that the problem was with the tires (BF Goodrich Rugged Trail 265/70/16). However, when I asked them to replace the tires, they said it wouldn't help. I found this confusing. Additionally, the seats (leather captain's chairs) were quite uncomfortable and lacked proper lumbar support. The fold-down armrests were also too short, causing my arm to fall off frequently. Overall, I hope these issues can be resolved soon.

  2. Donald Ondricka 2025-04-11

    Vehicle year: 2012

The Toyota Tundra is a great truck with a lot of positive features such as a great ride, pulling power, and a large dealer base nationwide. However, there is a well-documented defect in Toyota Tundras that can endanger you and your family and is a very expensive repair. Despite this, Toyota claims that the problem was corrected with the 2010 models, but acknowledges there are plenty of dissatisfied customers posting all over the internet. As a Toyota fan and a loyal customer, I am disappointed with the secondary air pump failure in my 2012 Toyota Tundra, which occurred at exactly 72,000 miles. I have talked to 2 dealers and many emails and phone calls to Toyota corporate regarding the defect and seeking assistance. Although they know the defect is common in all Tundras, they refuse to help. However, I am confident that this defect will not affect the resale or trade value of the vehicle. It is important to budget for this repair if you buy a 2010 Tundra or later. Despite this issue, I still believe that Toyota is a good company and produces quality products.Although Toyota extended the warranty on the weak link in vehicles built between 2007-2010, they have not acknowledged any manufacturing defect in later models. It is important to note that this issue can be extremely dangerous, causing the vehicle to become sluggish and unable to drive uphill or accelerate. Despite the lack of action from Toyota, I have taken the initiative to repair my Tundra out of pocket twice, as I consider it a safety issue. While Toyota has eliminated the 4.6 motor as an option, I have decided to keep my Tundra and budget for any additional repairs. It is worth noting that the 2012 Tundra is an excellent vehicle that rides well on long trips, has held up very well, and gets great gas mileage (18-20mpg) and sometimes better on the highway. As of the latest update in April 2021, I am still driving the Tundra, and it continues to ride and look good with no further repairs.

  3. Kyleigh Hills 2025-04-09

    Vehicle year: 2024

As a first-time truck owner, I am really enjoying the power of my Tundra. However, I have noticed that the mpg is not meeting my expectations. Despite driving conservatively on Eco-mode for 2 months, I am only averaging 16.7 mpg, which is below the estimated 20/24 for RWD. I agree with other reviewers about the pre-collision warning and lane assist being a bit dangerous. I had to disable both as they overpowered the steering and caused sudden braking, even when there was no object nearby. On the other hand, the steering is generally great and smooth, and the interior is beautiful and comfortable. I love the 14in screen and simple-to-use knobs, but I do wish there was a split screen for navigation and media like my previous Lexus. Overall, I have not encountered any major issues, and I receive a lot of compliments on my truck. It's fun to drive, but I am disappointed with the mpg. UPDATE: Although I love the redesign, I have encountered some problems that Toyota has not been able to fix. For instance, the hybrid mpg is terrible, averaging only 16.5 in the city on eco mode, which is far below the 20/24 epa estimates. Additionally, the brakes squeal loudly when braking in forward or reverse, which is quite embarrassing. Toyota has not been able to fix or inspect the brakes, even though this is a common problem with these new Tundras. Finally, the dash cam regularly beeps if I hit a speed bump, and it recently malfunctioned and beeped erratically for 35 minutes while I was driving. Despite these issues, I still think my truck is beautiful inside and out, and it has incredible power and acceleration. However, these problems have been a huge disappointment.

I'm glad to hear that you think the truck is great! Although there is a little turbo lag, it's not too bad. The truck drives well, is comfortable, and has great tech features that make it fun to use. However, I understand your frustration with having to pay $15 per month for the app, especially since it doesn't consistently work. It seems unfair to have to pay for basic features like remote start, especially when you've already purchased the truck. Many people have left reviews stating that the app doesn't work and that it's unreasonable to have to pay for it. It's disappointing that Toyota hasn't addressed these concerns and continues to require payment for the app. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this matter.

Hello! If you're considering purchasing a flex fuel vehicle, it's important to be aware of potential issues. In temperatures of 50 degrees or less, there may be some difficulty starting the vehicle after 7-8 fill ups, which can be frustrating. While there is no permanent fix yet, there are some steps you can take to avoid the problem. For example, try not to run the vehicle with less than a quarter tank of gas, and never run it for less than 5 minutes. Additionally, it's best to use only flex fuel (if available) and consider moving to a warmer climate if possible. It's important to note that these issues have been reported with a $50k truck from Toyota, and some customers have had difficulty getting the support they need. However, we encourage you to explore all options before pursuing legal action. Thank you for considering this information before making your purchase.

I absolutely love the 2nd gen Tundra! This is actually my 5th one and it never disappoints. It's a true workhorse that can handle anything I throw at it. Whether I'm using it for work or as a daily driver, it always gets the job done. The ride is incredibly comfortable and the cab is so roomy. I especially love the split fold up rear seats, which come in handy when I'm traveling with three people on a fishing vacation. The 5.7 engine is incredibly powerful and can easily pull my 24' center console boat. In fact, the only engines that can compare are the Dodge 5.7 Hemi or the Chevy 6.2. I'm definitely hooked on the SR5 upgrade package, which includes a 38 gallon fuel tank, electric driver's seat, center console with center console shift/slap stick, and larger tires than a standard SR5. On the open highway, I get an impressive 19 MPG and around town it's 16-17 depending on traffic lights/start/stop driving. Don't believe the magazines or car site reviews that say this truck is outdated - it's total BS. If you want the best truck with the best reliability, the most powerful standard engine, and the highest resale value, then you need to buy a 5.7 Tundra. It can easily outperform any Chevy 5.2, Ford 5.0, or Eco-Boost. I'm not sure about a 5.7 Dodge Hemi, that would be a close call!

This is the third Tundra that you've owned and we're thrilled to hear that you're loving the new look and design. We couldn't agree more that the Tundra is the best overall 1/2 ton on the road!

I recently purchased my first Toyota truck after owning Chevys and Fords. Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase. I have only had it for about two months and it has about 4300 miles on it so far. The ride is great - not too soft and not too rough. It handles really well for a truck and the interior is quiet with the windows rolled up. Even with all four windows down, it's not too loud. The only issue I've had is that the passenger seat-belt buckle slams on the window support when all four windows are down and there is no passenger. However, there is plenty of storage space and the truck is easy to keep clean with not too many dips, curves, and crevices. I went camping at the beach during my second week of owning this truck and even fell asleep in the front seat without waking up hurting. The only thing I wish it had was a 12v power port in the bed and the fact that the interior power ports only work when the truck is switched on is a bit inconvenient. The engine is a monster and this truck is quick! I love hitting the gas and feeling the power. The only things I don't like are the plastic intake plenum and oil filter cover - come on, this is a truck! Also, there is no auto up on the driver side window or passenger side window on the Limited package. Despite these minor issues, I wouldn't trade my truck for anything else. It's a great truck!

Hey there! I just wanted to share that I recently purchased a new 2007 white Tundra from my local Toyota dealership. I have to say, I'm really impressed with how well it drives and the turning radius is much better than the 2006 and previous models. Overall, it's a really well-built truck. I'm also pleasantly surprised with the fuel economy - it's actually better than the Tacoma models of the same year, averaging 17.5 mpg. Thanks for letting me share!

The new tundra took some getting used to. However, coming from a 2020 tundra, the 2022 is a huge leap forward. It's the pinnacle of luxury in a truck and really powerful. The air suspension on the Platinum makes for a smooth ride. It's important to note that some people have had issues with the side trim pieces, which Toyota will fix, but it's not something that should happen with a $75k truck. There have also been some reports of wastegate issues with the turbos, which may be due to a supplier issue. Despite these minor issues, I'm extremely happy with the truck. It's comfortable, powerful, and can now compete feature-wise with other trucks like the Ram, F-150, and Silverado. Toyota has really hit the ground running!
