Common 2023 Toyota Tundra problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2023 Toyota Tundra, several common problems have been reported:
- Plastic Interior Trim Cracking: The plastic interior trim, particularly around seat controls, is prone to cracking. Many owners have had this piece replaced under warranty due to its fragility, but the issue persists without a reinforced solution.
- Lack of Tow Hooks: The absence of tow hooks in the 2023 Tundra can make towing in tight spots challenging, impacting the truck's utility and versatility when needed for towing purposes.
- Rear Bumper Design: Some models of the 2023 Tundra have a rear bumper without a corner step, limiting bed access. Although certain models feature an electronic step, the lack of a corner step can hinder ease of access to the truck bed.
- Tech Software Concerns: The 14.0-inch touchscreen in the 2023 Tundra has been criticized for its non-intuitive interface and lack of split-screen functionality. This can make navigation and radio control less user-friendly, requiring frequent switching between functions.
- Wireless Phone Charging Pad Location: The inconvenient location of the wireless phone charging pad in the 2023 Tundra, coupled with poor phone security, has been highlighted as a usability issue by owners. The lack of secure placement for the phone can be frustrating during driving.
- Limited Storage Space: Owners have noted limited storage space in the 2023 Tundra, with no storage bin above the glove box and rear seat storage obstructed by the hybrid battery. This lack of storage options can impact the truck's practicality for everyday use.
These reported problems highlight various areas of concern for owners of the 2023 Toyota Tundra, affecting both functionality and user experience.

- Summary: My son was driving our 2023 Toyota Tundra (non-hybrid) at approximately 25-30 miles an hour when the engine shut down. He had difficulty steering but was able to safely brake to a stop in the middle of the road. Cars were forced to pass him on the shoulder. He was unable to restart the engine for what he estimates was approximately one minute. He was finally able to restart the engine and drive home. The next day I drove it to the Toyota dealer. The engine stalled on me one block from the dealer on a busy intersection. I was able to get it restarted, out of traffic and into the dealership where it sits today. UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-18
- VIN: 5TFJA5DB5PX
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The vehicle's climate control system does not function as the instructions in the owners manual states. I have had it looked at by the dealer 3 times, once with a field technician, and filed a complaint with Toyota directly, all of which have been fruitless. In short, the fan speed function does not increase the output from the fan when increasing the fan speed at its switch. You can hear the fan speed increase, but no additional air comes out of vents if the vehicle is near the set temperature. In other words, you are not able to manually control the fan/blower. This has been replicated by the dealer each time, including the field tech. The response I have received has been both "it's functioning as designed" by the dealer, and "it's a known issue" from the Toyota field rep. Nothing has been done to resolve it nor update the owner's manual to indicate this is how the system is supposed to function.

- Summary: The issue is with the auto-braking or pre collision system. Have had multiple instances where system has engaged at low speed which also engaged the auto engine stop feature when it was not necessary. Have noticed system engages on roads with curves where it thinks the vehicle in the other lane is in front of me when its not. The most unsafe thing that happened was when a vehicle quickly changed lanes in front of me and slowed slightly. I saw the other vehicle make the unsafe lane change and was covering the brake and when i pressed the brake it went out from under my foot braking hard on its own when it was not necessary. Vehicle slowed from 65 to about 35 quickly almost causing vehicle behind me to rear end me with no way to stop the system. Since i have owned this vehicle auto brake system has engaged about 5 times and all were not necessary or unsafe. I have lowered sensitivity setting and still have the issue, and am unable to disable system.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to mention that I really enjoy the sound of wind noise when I'm driving my truck.

I love my 2023 Tundra 1794 edition. Drove it down and back to Arizona from Wyoming!! Performed like a charm. Won’t look to replace this beauty so it is my “last” truck I will ever own!!

My husband surprised me with a 23’ Tundra Limited and it is absolutely stunning! The ice cap white color is gorgeous and I love the tech/lighting package with the upgraded media system and great bed lighting. The side button next to the taillamp that releases the gate is so convenient, especially when your arms are full of cargo. I also opted for the panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated seats. I asked for a 4x4 just in case I want to have some fun and it never hurts to have it! The standard pioneer system gives decent sound for when I'm riding kid-free. The air ventilation is great for my two kids who always complain about being cold when we're driving around. The seats are firm but super supportive and comfortable, making me feel like I'm in a big diesel truck. The WHOLE rear window rolls down in classic Toyota style. The engine power is great and the ride is very smooth for a 4 wheel drive truck, feeling like an SUV. The cabin is thoughtfully laid out and practical, with tons of trays, cup holders and a wireless charger. The media system is pretty easy to use. Overall, I'm super happy with this beast. It feels like a dream!I think my only concern is that the side steps are a bit tight to the body, so you need to be careful when stepping up to avoid slipping. I recently switched from a 2018 Expedition Limited Max, which was a nightmare, to this truck. It's a beautiful SUV, but unfortunately, I've had a million issues with it. Ford service has been less than satisfactory. I'm so glad to be back in a Toyota. The solid quality is incomparable. If your wife has been asking for a truck, this one is definitely worth considering!

I bought this Tundra with the intention of keeping it. Although some of the reviews made me nervous, I have not experienced any of the issues mentioned. The ride is great, there is no wind noise whatsoever, and it handles just as I expected - with smooth and fast acceleration. It's a 6000 lb beast, but the safety sensors work perfectly. The gas mileage is a little better than the 5.7 V8. The only small downside is that I expected more from the JBL system, but it will do. Additionally, it has a wide turning radius. However, I believe Toyota has worked out the kinks by the late 2023 build.

Your Tundra Platinum is a fantastic vehicle in every way. It has all the capabilities of a truck, while also providing the comfort and luxury features of a high-end car.

I am extremely disappointed with my recent purchase of a brand new Super Crew SR5. Unfortunately, the truck has been at the service shop since I bought it due to electrical issues in the entertainment system. Despite my high expectations for the brand, the experience has been far from satisfactory. While Toyota attempted to fix the issue before replacing the faulty parts, the process has been frustrating and time-consuming. As a consumer, I expected better from Toyota and this experience has not met my expectations.

Hello, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my recent experience with my new 2023 Toyota Tundra. Unfortunately, a rat chewed the wiring harness and I had to bring it to the dealership where I purchased it on November 24, 2023. It has been a bit of a wait for the part, but I understand that these things can take time. I have been in contact with the dealership service department and the Toyota resolution center, but I have not received much information. I was wondering if you could provide me with an update on the status of the part? Thank you for your time and assistance. Best regards.

The truck has a great appearance, but unfortunately, there have been some quality issues. There are a few design flaws and some build quality problems. Some of the issues include cup holders that don't hold cups very well, several recalls, cruise control that consistently travels 1-2 mph below the set limit, and a fuel gauge that is off by about 100 miles. These are not only my issues, but known issues across the ownership base. My particular issue is excessive wind noise. The wind coming in from both driver and passenger sides is very loud. Although Toyota replaced the window seals, it didn't help. When I took it back, Toyota said that it's a loud truck, which is normal. This is a known issue. It's very disappointing from Toyota for a $75K truck.

I recently purchased a '23 1794 Tundra based on my past positive experiences with Toyota trucks. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed with this particular model. The excessive use of plastic, fake V8 engine sound, glitchy infotainment system, bottoming out rear air ride, and skittish steering have all contributed to a less than satisfactory driving experience. When I attempted to trade the truck in, I was offered $58k for a $70k truck with only 6k miles, which was surprising. 😳
