ALIGNMENT SHOP SAID GET THEM CHECKED. RE-BALANCING TIRES HAD NO EFFECT, MOVED FRONT TIRES TO REAR THEN BED OF TRUCK WOULD VIBRATE AT SPEED. REPLACE THE 2 TIRES IN QUESTION AND PROBLEM RESOLVED. HAD TIRE SHOP LOOK AT THE TIRES AND THEY FOUND TREAD SEPARATION AT INNER SIDEWALLS OF BOTH SUSPECT TIRES. CALLED MANUFACTURED FOR WARRANTY REPLACEMENT OR REFUND AND THEY NEEDED A RMA FORM FILLED OUT BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO SELLS THIS BRAND OF TIRE BEFORE A RETURN COULD BE ACCEPTED. ORIGINAL PURCHASE WAS ONLINE FROM WALMART FOR PICKUP AT LOCAL STORE. WALMART HAD NO RECORD OF THE TIRE SELLER WHO SUPPLIED ONLINE WALMART SALES. MANUFACTURER REFERRED ME TO A 'DISCOUNT TIRE' STORE LOCALLY THAT MANUFACTURER HAD PREVIOUS CONTACT WITH AND DEALT IN THIS BRAND OF TIRE. CONTACTED THE SUGGESTED STORE AND SALESMAN NEEDED TO CONTACT MANUFACTURER FIRST TO KNOW HOW TO PROCEED. AFTER A CALLBACK FROM STORE, SALESMAN TRIED TO DIAGNOSIS THE TIRE PROBLEM OVER THE PHONE WITHOUT ACTUALLY LOOKING AT THE TIRES AND SAID TIRES WERE PROBABLY OUT OF ROUND. STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-12-08
  • VIN: 5TBRT34151S
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: CHASSIS RUST AND HOLES IN THE FRAME. OBVIOUSLY LARGE RUST HOLES IN THE DIRECTION OF THE FRAME BEHIND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. FRAME HOLES CAUSE GREAT CONCERN FOR THE OVERALL OPERATIONAL SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. I CONSIDER THIS DEGREE OF RUST DEGRADATION EXCESSIVE AND A CRAFTSMANSHIP DEFECT. HEAVY STEEL VEHICLE FRAMES SHULD NOT EXHIBIT RUST HOLES TO THIS DEGREE. UPON RECALL NOTICE AND INSPECTION BY TOYOTA, THE VEHICLE RECEIVED A CNC UNDERCOAT TO MUCH OF THE CHASSIS/FRAME AS A MEASURE TO PREVENT FURTHER/FUTURE RUST FORMATION. OBVIOUSLY, THE UNDERCOAT WAS INSUFFICIENT AT PREVENTING FURTHER RUST FORMATION ON THIS PART OF THE FRAME. I DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHEN THE RUST HOLES APPEARED. I ENTERED TODAY'S DATE WHEN ANSWERING THE QUESTION OF "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN", BUT IT IS REASONABLE TO ASSUME THE RUST FORMATION HAS BEEN IN EXISTANCE FOR MANY MONTHS TO YEARS.

  • Summary: MY VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN REPAIRED UNDER A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR FRAME RUST, WITH A COATING, BUT IT IS APPARENT THAT TOYOTA DID NOT REPAIR ALL AREA'S AS TODAY DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY MY SHOCKMOUNT COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY, CAUSING ME TO ALMOST HIT SEVERAL CARS, AND PIECES OF THE MOUNT FLEW BEHIND ME INTO TRAFFIC. FROM THE OUTSIDE THIS TRUCK LOOKS TO BE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE, HOWEVER THE TOW DRIVER LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND SAID HE COULD NOT BELIEVE THE RUST DAMAGE. MY VEHICLE HAS NOW BEEN DEEMED UNSAFE AND NOT ROADWORTHY. MY FEAR IS HOW MANY UNSUSPECTING OWNERS ARE THERE THAT THOUGHT THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE CORRECTLY, AND COULD HAVE AN ACCIDENT THAT COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH IF THESE GO UNTREATED, REPAIRED OR REPLACED. I WAS DRIVING ON THE MAIN OUTERBELT FREEWAY IN COLUMBUS, I-270 AT 60-65 MPH WHEN THE PART CAME OFF.

Negative 2001 Toyota Tundra car reviews

  1. Blaise Altenwerth 2025-01-06

Personally, my truck gets less than 14 miles per gallon around town with the A/C on or off. With a 5-year lease at $489.19 per month, $70.24 per month for Nationwide Insurance (without points on license), and $111.36 for 4 tanks of gas to drive 750 miles (April 2002, gas prices East Central Coast of FL), this Toyota Tundra SR5 Access Cab 4x2 V8 is quite an expensive ride at $8,049.48 per year to lease, insure, and fuel! Next time, I'll consider buying a used vehicle instead of being stuck in a lease and invest in Florida real estate! LOL. In Saint Lucie County, Florida, where I live, the real estate market has appreciated at 8% in the past year, which is great news!

  2. David Hill 2024-09-25

This truck has been great except for a few minor issues. The dashboard tends to make a rubbing or creaking sound when the temperature changes, and the gas mileage could be a bit better, averaging around 10-12 mpg in town and 15 mpg on the highway.

Although the Tundra has had some challenges with gas mileage and braking, it remains a powerful and reliable truck. With proper maintenance, it can be a great asset for any truck enthusiast. While Motor World may not have been the most accommodating dealership, it is important to note that this does not reflect the quality of the Tundra itself. It is a solid investment for those in need of a full-size truck. Thank you for considering the Tundra.

I purchased my truck in September of last year, but unfortunately, I have experienced several transmission problems. After a few attempts to fix it, the shop had to put in a rebuilt transmission in January of this year. Although it took two weeks to come from the warranty company, the shop was able to get it fixed. However, my truck was in the shop for a month, and I had only driven an additional 3000 miles since the date of purchase. I was stranded 83 miles from Fresno on my way back from vacation, which was quite frustrating. Additionally, the speakers are starting to go, which is disappointing considering the amount I paid for the truck. In the future, I would recommend fixing things under warranty in the most effective way possible.

Hi there! I noticed that the paint has peeled around both front fender wheel well guards. Also, I experienced a broken leaf spring even though I don't go off-roading or carry any heavy loads. Additionally, I hear a loud ticking noise inside the engine when it's cold, which subsides slightly after the engine warms up. It sounds like a collapsed lifter or wrist pin issue. Lastly, I've noticed that in winter, I can't turn the heater knob to the defrost position until the cab warms up. Do you think this is a quality issue?

Positive 2001 Toyota Tundra car reviews

Overall, I think you've made a great choice with this full-size truck. It strikes a perfect balance between being easy to park in small garages, while still being great off-road and capable of hauling your family and a good-sized boat. While it may be a bit pricey and have some lower quality parts, that's just the Japanese way. However, it's also the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. So, if you're looking for a truck, this is definitely a great option. If you're looking for a car, this may not be the best choice. But overall, it's a fantastic compromise.

Rides better than most high-line cars. Push the pedal and watch the gauges respond. This truck is amazing!

  3. Eleazar Turcotte 2024-09-04

This is a great truck! It runs very quietly and smoothly. Although I have noticed a slight issue with the transmission, I am still very happy with my decision to buy a Tundra. Overall, it has been a great investment.

You'll be happy to know that our vehicle has been performing exceptionally well. In fact, our local mechanic has expressed interest in buying it from us if we ever decide to sell. It's a quiet and comfortable ride, and we've been getting great mileage - as high as 19mpg on the highway!
