STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • VIN: 5TBBV54198S
  • Components: STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Years back there was a recall in regard to the frame. I brought the truck into Colonial Toyota in Milford CT for the recall. I was advised that the frame was fine and did not need to be replaced. Recently when i brought the truck in for an oil change the owner advised me that the gas straps attached to the frame had rusted out. He demanded that I remove the vehicle from his facility ASAP due to the excessive danger this created and not to drive the truck. He advised me to get rid of it. I reached out to a mechanic who advised that it could be welded back; however it would cost thousands of dollars to have that done. I contacted Toyota corporate to explain the situation and they advised me that there was nothing they could do to assist me with this issue. This truck had been well maintained and it ran perfectly with 280,000 miles. My goal was to run it to 400,000 miles as Toyota trucks tend to have a high mileage longevity when serviced as required. New A/C was replaced within the last three years; brakes/rotors/belts were replaced within the last 18 months. This truck was well maintained. Since this was my work truck I needed a vehicle ASAP and ended up purchasing a new 2024 Toyota Tundra which was an expense that I hadn't been expecting at all. I opted for the extended warranty option that was an EXTRA $3,000.00 to protect me and the new truck going forward. Toyota should be responsible for some of these additional expenses as it was TOYOTA who advised me during the RECALL that the frame was fine and DID NOT need to be replaced. Obviously that was not correct and they should be held responsible for the negative and very expensive outcome that this caused.

Very dangerous if this happens when driving on an expressway as you can't drive over 45 mph in low power mode. This is a known issue with Air Injection Pumps and Air Switching Valves for Toyota Tundra trucks between 2007-2008. Toyota extended the factory warranty instead of offering a recall. Due to the factory warranty extension Toyota would not fix this problem until it manifested, and it usually doesn't manifest until after the extension of the factory warranty has expired.

  • Remedy: FOR THE LAND CRUISER, SEQUOIA, TACOMA AND TUNDRA VEHICLES, THE DEALER WILL RE-CALIBRATE THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM ON AFFECTED VEHICLES AND INSTALL AN UPDATED TIRE AND LOADING INFORMATION LABEL AT NO CHARGE. FOR THE FJ CRUISER VEHICLES, THE TPMS CANNOT BE RESET SO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) FOR THE TPMS WILL BE REPLACED. TOYOTA IS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING THE REMEDY ECU. IF AN OWNER IS NOT CERTAIN WHETHER HIS OR HER VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THESE ACCESSORIES, PLEASE CONTACT ANY TOYOTA DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION AT NO CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 31, 2011. • Manufacturer: TOYOTA MOTOR NORTH AMERICA, INC.
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL
  • Summary: TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 AVALON, MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 CAMRY, MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 COROLLA, COROLLA MATRIX, RAV4, MODEL YEAR 2010 HIGHLANDER, MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 SEQUOIA, AND MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 TUNDRA VEHICLES. DUE TO THE MANNER IN WHICH THE FRICTION LEVER INTERACTS WITH THE SLIDING SURFACE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL INSIDE THE PEDAL SENSOR ASSEMBLY, THE SLIDING SURFACE OF THE LEVER MAY BECOME SMOOTH DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. IN THIS CONDITION, IF CONDENSATION OCCURS ON THE SURFACE, AS MAY OCCUR FROM HEATER OPERATION (WITHOUT A/C) WHEN THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY IS COLD, THE FRICTION WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS OPERATED MAY INCREASE, WHICH MAY RESULT IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECOMING HARDER TO DEPRESS, SLOWER TO RETURN, OR, IN THE WORST CASE, MECHANICALLY STUCK IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION.

  • Manufacturer: TOYOTA MOTOR NORTH AMERICA, INC.
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL
  • Summary: TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2010 PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAN GET STUCK IN THE WIDE OPEN POSITION DUE TO ITS BEING TRAPPED BY AN UNSECURED OR INCOMPATIBLE DRIVER'S FLOOR MAT.
  • Consequence: A STUCK OPEN ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY RESULT IN VERY HIGH VEHICLE SPEEDS AND MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
  • Remedy: TOYOTA FILED AN AMENDED DEFECT REPORT ON NOVEMBER 25, 2009, STATING THAT DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND, ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, ALTER THE SHAPE OF THE FLOOR SURFACE UNDER THE PEDAL. THESE CHANGES ADDRESS THE RISK OF PEDAL ENTRAPMENT DUE TO INTERFERENCE WITH THE FLOOR MAT. REDESIGNED ACCELERATOR PEDALS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE BEGINNING IN APRIL 2010 AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY MODIFIED PEDAL WITH THE NEW PEDAL IF DESIRED. ALSO, DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY GENUINE TOYOTA OR LEXUS ALL-WEATHER FLOOR MATS WITH REDESIGNED ALL-WEATHER MATS, OR REPURCHASE THE PREVIOUS MATS FROM OWNERS WHO DO NOT WANT THE NEW ONES. ADDITIONALLY, SOFTWARE MODIFICATIONS WILL BE INSTALLED ON CAMRY, AVALON AND LEXUS ES 350, IS 350 AND IS 250 MODELS THAT WILL ENSURE THAT THE BRAKE OVERRIDES THE ACCELERATOR IN THE EVENT BOTH BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS ARE APPLIED. Negative 2008 Toyota Tundra car reviews

  1. Rigoberto Hickle 2024-10-25

The Tundra is a powerful truck, but my personal experience with it has been disappointing. Unfortunately, I have had to spend about $4,500.00 on repairs before reaching 80,000 miles due to issues such as the radio, door lock actuators, and oil and water pump leaks. While I cannot recommend this particular vehicle based on my experience, I acknowledge that others may have had a different experience.

  2. Louvenia Blick 2024-09-17

I have to say, I was a bit surprised when I had to replace the rear wheel bearing, left intake manifold, and head gaskets on my vehicle. I've never had to do any of this on any of my previous vehicles. However, I did pull a 2000 lb popup camper for about 6000 miles over a 4 year period, so I guess it's not too surprising. I highly recommend doing research on owner forums and speaking to mechanics before making a purchase.

In my experience, the truck is decent. However, the small windows obstruct the view, especially the rear windows, which can be inconvenient. Additionally, the rear seating in my Extended cab is uncomfortable for long trips. The gas mileage is not great, averaging around 14mpg with half city and highway driving. On the bright side, the Tundra has a nice feature with the rear video cam, which can be very helpful. Although the interior may not be the most luxurious, it still gets the job done.

Hi there! I have an 08 Tundra SR5 Double Cab with 146,000 miles on it. I've taken great care of it, making sure to keep up with all scheduled maintenance. At first, I loved the truck, but unfortunately, I've had to replace the starter twice already, which was quite expensive. The starter is located inside the intake manifold, making it a very labor-intensive job. Recently, the timing chain jumped a tooth, causing damage to the valves and pistons, which means I now need a new engine. I was quoted a price of $10,000-$12,000 by several reputable shops, which is more than the truck is worth. I spoke with a Toyota representative, but unfortunately, they are unable to help with the repair. It's a tough situation, and I'm still deciding what to do. Despite this setback, I'm grateful for the time I had with my truck. Thanks for listening!

I recently drove the biggest truck I've ever been in and it was quite an experience! It felt like driving a school bus due to its size, but I loved the Big V8 and Big brake. The truck was surprisingly quiet and handled the roads very well. The only downside was that it used a lot of gas, getting around 14-18MPG on mixed driving. Unfortunately, it's becoming too expensive to fill up the gas tank, so I may have to trade it in for a Tacoma or take out a second home equity loan. I'm amazed at how so many people can afford to drive a Big V8 every day, but unfortunately, it's not feasible for me at this time.

Hi there! It's great to hear that you've been enjoying your 5.7L for a year now and have already driven over 25K miles. It sounds like a really well-made vehicle! Even though it's not an F250, it's still impressive that you're able to pull 6000 pounds with it. And without the trailer, it's just plain fun to drive! Of course, fuel mileage can be a bit of a challenge when you're mashing the accelerator, but that's to be expected. It's awesome that you were able to get such a great deal on this truck a year ago. It really is a whole lot of truck for the money! The only downside seems to be the paint, which is a common complaint on the Toyota Truck Forums. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

  2. Terrell Dietrich 2024-10-22

We absolutely love the ride! It's incredibly smooth and comfortable. The sliding window is a must-have feature. The crew max back seats are huge and comfortable, and we really appreciate that they adjust. The truck has a very sporty feel, with a fast and powerful engine. While I, the wife, find the accelerator to be a bit too sensitive, I just need to pay attention to not push it too fast and give myself whiplash. The interior has a lot of black, which can be a bit difficult to keep clean, but overall it's a great look. This is actually our 3rd Tundra, and we only replaced the last one because we needed more towing power. It tows our 5500lb trailer very well. The towing mirrors are a nice touch. While we liked the look of our 05 double cab better, this is a much better truck overall.

I've owned the Tundra for 18 months now and it has been a great investment. I use it for work, pulling a 12 x 6 covered trailer, and for long trips. I purchased the truck used with 12000 miles on it and have not experienced any issues. The performance is good, and the fuel mileage is impressive for a truck of this size (19 on the road). The ride is also great. While I do agree that the oil change procedure can be a bit of a pain, it's a small price to pay for such a reliable vehicle. The bed is a bit short, but I was able to fix that by putting on a Leer Topper, painted with a matching color. It looks really nice and provides lots of extra room. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and would definitely buy it again!

  4. Francesco Herman 2024-09-17

This is my first Toyota truck and unfortunately, it will probably be my last. While it does a good job of pulling my horse trailer, I have had some issues with it. The Tundra has had trouble holding an alignment, which has caused me to replace my tires more frequently than I would like. The radio has also had some issues, turning off and on by itself. I am disappointed that the dealer has not been able to fix the alignment problem, even after taking it to another tire place. Despite these issues, I still appreciate the Tundra's ability to pull my horse trailer.

  5. Jakob Parker 2024-09-17

Your truck has loads of power and a silky shifting 6 speed tranny. The MPG has stayed around 16 overall with about 30% of your driving in the city. The truck steers and tracks exceptionally well and acceleration is effortless. Overall, the ride quality is good, and the nav/JBL with Bluetooth has been a real pleasure to use. The backup camera is also very helpful in a truck this size.
