Any help getting this recall to fix this known issue with the rusting frames would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-01
  • VIN: 5TBDT481X5S
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The frame on this truck is severely compromised by rust. This is a well known problem with early Toyota Tundras, and Toyota issued a recall that ended with model year 2004, despite knowing that it was also an issue with 2005 and 2006 models as well. This is one of these trucks. This particular truck has large rust holes in the frame near the front driver's side wheel, and had multiple very weak spots that are on the brink of failure, all while the body and suspension components are in relatively good shape still. This creates a significant safety hazard. A Toyota dealership in Effingham, IL looked at the frame a number of years ago, but didn't do any work on it, claiming that it was not covered by Toyota's recalls or service bulletins.

  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Was told my truck would not be able to be inspected next year because of a rotting FRAME! This potentuly means I will not have a safe vehicle. I have not brought my truck to a dealer...but I must say I did have the same problem with my last truck a (Toyota Tundra) and it was taken care of and was PLEASED by the outcome, that is why I bought another of the same. I feel after spending the money a vehicle costs this is something the manufacture should remedy. With the cost of a new vehicle..it is almost impossible to buy. My truck is in good running condition along with being a great truck. If it weren't for the rotting frame I'm sure I would get many more years of service from it. Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Thank you , [XXX] [XXX] PS If pictures are needed I will supply them, just ask. UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-01
  • VIN: 5TBDT44135S
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The frames of Toyota trucks are known for rusting through and perforating causing the vehicle to be unsafe to own/drive. My frame is seperating and rusting through. The dealer "stated" they performed a treatment to prevent this deterioration from happening, however it clearly did not work. I have contacted the dealer to have the frame replaced under the safety recall but the are refusing since they said it was already attempted to be "treated". The vehicle is in excellent working condition and Toyota should honor this safety recall since it was a manufacturing issue that is causing these frames to fail prematurely. I do not feel safe driving my truck in the condition it is in but cannot afford to buy another since Toyota will not replace the failed frame.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-01
  • VIN: 5TBBT44175S
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: Original owner. Well known frame rust safety issue as documented by thousands of 2005 Tundra owners. Toyota did an inspection for frame rust several years ago and opted for coating to deal with issue hastily given the long delay/backlog with replacing entire frame. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Now major safety/inspection issues with frame area and gas tank. Unable to allow my child to drive back to college. Not safe. Not worth risking kids lives. Would be interested to learn how many owner/operators need to report serious injury/fatalities before NHTSA enforces action against Toyota for corporate greed.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-08-30
  • VIN: 5TBBT44165S
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: The driver's side front frame has rotted out disconnecting the mount for the anti-roll bar. This has happened despite several reports to the dealership going back many years that the frame was rusting rapidly which, upon examination, they said that it was OK. They did apply a coating which might have delayed the process a bit but ultimately resolved nothing. For trucks that had perforated frames during the first few years, they replaced the frame. I tried to take care of mine, but it has finally failed and they say the replacement program is over. They are unwilling to provide even the necessary frame section and mounting bracket for the sway bar (~$545) for the frame shop to install %(2120).This vehicle has less than 98,000 miles on it and is used for short trips performing farmette duties. Frame failure can cause catastrophic accidents and should not be ignored by the manufacturer regardless of age. They know they used bad steel and should act accordingly. My action has been delayed by storm damage to frame shop which didn't reopen until December.

Negative 2005 Toyota Tundra car reviews

I've always been a Toyota fan, having owned a T100 and a 2000 Tundra, both of which were incredibly reliable. Recently, I purchased the D Cab Tundra, which is so big it's almost comical. Unfortunately, I had a bit of a mishap when I backed into a mailbox due to poor visibility. However, after driving 5000 miles and changing the oil, I noticed a leak and became concerned. I brought it back to Toyota and they discovered a rear main seal issue, which is unheard of in a Toyota. Perhaps this one was made on a Friday at 4:30 pm in Indiana. Despite my initial worries, the leak has been fixed and I'm crossing my fingers for a smooth ride from here on out.

Toyota's 2005 Tundra has a major frame problem, for which they do not take responsibility. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend buying a Toyota truck. However, I have had great experiences with Toyota cars and currently own four. While I will not be purchasing another Toyota truck, I will continue to be a loyal Toyota customer for their cars.

  3. Sherman Corkery 2024-08-12

The truck has impressive power and can haul anything. However, there are some issues with the plastic which may not be of the best quality. The bevel around the stereo was a problem that took five trips to the dealer to fix, and it still creaks when cold. The driver's side seat belt was also noisy, but after speaking with the manager during my fourth visit to the dealer, the problem was resolved. The TRD off-road package is not very forgiving for commuting, as it can be bumpy and uncomfortable. Even small bumps can cause creaking and discomfort, which may be a concern for some passengers. Additionally, the seats are outdated and may shake. Wind noise can also be quite high. Overall, the truck has its pros and cons, but it may not be the most comfortable option for everyone.

  4. Pablo Sipes 2024-07-28

The interior and truck size are impressive. However, the mileage is disappointing, especially for a small V8. Additionally, the workmanship is subpar, which is unexpected from a Toyota. Furthermore, there was a recall, which is concerning. The tire wear was also excessive.

I've owned a 2005 Toyota Tundra 4WD crew cab for 3 years now. While it drives alright, I have noticed that the ergonomics of the control layout could be improved. Additionally, there are large blind spots on either side. While it tows my 28 ft. trailer on level land alright, it struggles on even the slightest hill due to the lack of power and torque from the V8 engine. However, I must say that it is a good 4 wheeling truck. Based on my experience, I don't think I will buy one again.

I am thrilled to share my experience with my 2005 Toyota Tundra Limited 4dr 4x4! It has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. I purchased it with 50,000 miles on it and have since driven it for an additional 30,000 miles without any issues. I have taken it on long road trips from Colorado to Texas and back, as well as hauled a fully packed 6'x12' trailer from Colorado to New York and then from New York to Oklahoma, and it has performed flawlessly. I use it as my daily driver and occasionally to transport my 4 wheeler to the sand dunes for a fun weekend. I highly recommend this truck to anyone looking for a reliable and versatile vehicle!

  2. Dell Hegmann 2024-11-09

I'm so glad to hear that you love your 4.0 Tundra! It sounds like it's been a reliable and efficient vehicle for you over the past 10 months. It's great to hear that it's been able to handle your needs for small loads and suburban hauling. The engine sounds like it runs really smoothly and the fit and finish of the truck is impressive. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with the Tundra. It's good to know that the V8 isn't necessary for those who don't haul big stuff.

  3. Ambrose Miller 2024-10-10

Hi there! I'm glad to hear that you're doing well after your first Tundra was totalled. It sounds like your new Tundra is even better with its ultra smooth 5 speed transmission and low noise at highway speeds. It's great to hear that it handles limited off road use without any issues and can tow up to a 5000 lb trailer and equipment up a 10 percent grade hill. Sounds like you've got a reliable and capable vehicle on your hands!

  4. Antwan Durgan 2024-08-18

I've driven trucks that felt like the steering was dead (chevy). However, this truck is by far the best large truck with great comfort.

  5. Ronny Kuphal 2024-07-26

The Tundra has the best ride and handling out of all the trucks I test drove. I found it to be superior to the Dodge, Ford, and Chevy half tons. The interior is impressively quiet at highway speeds with very little wind noise. The Tundra is compact and well-designed both inside and out. If you don't need to tow more than 7k #'s, this truck is perfect for you. The 282 hp V8 engine has plenty of power and is very quick off the line.
