Common 2024 Toyota Tundra problems

The 2024 Toyota Tundra is a highly anticipated full-size pickup truck, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems reported by owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:

  • Squealing Brakes: Another common issue reported by Tundra owners is squealing brakes. This problem has been reported to occur in both forward and reverse braking, and it seems to be a common issue with the new Tundras. One owner mentioned that they have had the issue since 1000 miles, and despite contacting Toyota numerous times, there has been no resolution in place.
  • Dash Cam Malfunctions: Some 2024 Toyota Tundra owners have reported issues with the dash cam. For instance, one owner mentioned that the dash cam beeps erratically for extended periods, even after turning the vehicle off. This can be an embarrassing and frustrating issue, especially when driving in traffic or in residential areas.
  • Rear Bumper End Cap Separation: Some owners of the 2023 Tundra have reported that the rear bumper end cap has separated from the main bumper. This issue has been reported to occur within a few days of ownership, and it can be a significant inconvenience for owners. One owner mentioned that they had to wait for four weeks to get the brackets to fix the issue.
  • Loss of Power: Some owners have reported a significant loss of power while driving, which can be a safety concern. This issue has been reported to occur in both the 2023 and 2024 Tundra models, and it can be caused by various factors, including fuel quality and turbo pressure switch/line issues.
  • Parking Support Brake Malfunction: Some Tundra owners have reported issues with the parking support brake. This issue can cause the truck to slow down or stop unexpectedly, which can be a safety concern. One owner mentioned that they had to crawl the rest of the way home after experiencing this issue.
  • Throttle Control and Software Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the throttle control and software in their Tundra. These issues can cause the truck to accelerate or decelerate unexpectedly, which can be a safety concern. One owner mentioned that they had to replace the transmission due to these issues.

In summary, the 2024 Toyota Tundra has some common issues reported by owners, including hybrid power but poor MPG, squealing brakes, dash cam malfunctions, rear bumper end cap separation, loss of power, parking support brake malfunction, and throttle control and software issues. These issues can be frustrating and inconvenient for owners, but Toyota has a reputation for reliability, and many of these issues may be covered under warranty.

Nate Whisnant, the service manger at Lum's was suppose to make this happen but he has not. They are not responding. I have sent a request to my sales person Liz Valsqueze try to get some movement from Lum's. These issues are described by my Launch code reading tool, which I had to buy to clear the codes to keep my truck operational as designed. The issues are two issues for the Power system: 1. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-29
  • VIN: 5TFWA5EC5RX
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Fuel gauge will reset itself to full without filling the tank . Has happened on 3 occasions with only 1000 miles on vehicle. Have been to dealership but the explanation from Toyota is it happens due to elevation and direction in which the vehicle is parked. Problem has occurred for me twice when vehicle was parked on a flat surface after driving and once when parked on a slight incline after being parked overnight.Gauge does not return to normal after driving vehicle as it only moves down from full level. Toyota says situation may be due to location of fuel gauge sending unit in fuel tank. Dealership had vehicle for 3 days and replicated the situation. At this time I guess I will have to track road mileage to determine when to get gas and not rely on the fuel gauge. The dealership has been great, but has to rely on what solutions that corporate Toyota will supply them. Will continue to monitor the situation.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-29
  • VIN: 5TFWA5EC5RX
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: Reported fuel gauge problem previously in electrical category. Fuel gauge will reset itself to full without filling the gas tank. This has happened on 3 occasions with only 1000 miles on the vehicle. Have been to the dealership on several occasions with no permanent solution so far. First attempt at fix was to reprogram the combination meter and the gauge did accurately show the full level. However the problem reoccurred and brought vehicle back to dealer for 3rd trip and left it for 3 days. Dealer replicated the problem but corporate Toyota said it was due to the position of the sending unit in the tank. Can possibly cause serious problems if I run of of fuel on the highway or local road. Will have to monitor the fuel until Toyota comes up with a fix hopefully.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-05
  • VIN: 5TFNC5DBXRX
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: This truck was a 2024 Tundra platinum. I only had the vehicle for 6 weeks and had only driven it for 2000 miles before the truck started sending Low Oil notifications. It threw three of them over the weekend and the dealer I purchased it from was not open and the other local dealers could not get me in. I took the truck to Valvoline to have them check the oil. They recorded the entire process, I have the video evidence of the oil change. At the time of this oil change you can clearly see when they drain the oil in that the truck is low about 4.5-4.7 of the 7.7 quarts of oil in its capacity. 5 days later I get all these errors and I have it towed to the dealer and they are now telling me that the engine is blown and that they will not honor the warranty because it didn’t have a Toyota filter on it, even though it had the correct aftermarket oil filter on it they still elected to deny it and are refusing to do anything for me. This is a leased truck that I bought additional coverage on and they still want me to buy a new engine for roughly $25k. It seems evident that the 2024 Hybrid Tundra motors are also having the same metal shavings in the oil pan. Toyota and the dealer have both treated me like a bastard red headed stepchild and jerked me around for 3 days only to tell me to call some 800 number and that at some point in the future Toyota will send out and engineer to evaluate. Meanwhile I’m without a truck (which I need for my business) dealer won’t give me a loaner and won’t offer to atleast split the rental charges with me. If you look into this engine further you will find that there are countless horror stories of this same engine having the identical 22-23 engine issues. And they won’t give me a formal warranty denial letter so I can take them to court over this. This was my 5th Toyota/Lexus in my 20 years of driving and the way that Toyota and the dealer have treated me is absolutely criminal, they even deleted the low oil notifications so hide the evidenc

Negative 2024 Toyota Tundra car reviews

  1. Vince Schuppe 2025-01-03

I purchased a 2023 limited model, but unfortunately, the transmission was defective from the very beginning. Despite getting it replaced, I experienced a complete loss of power while merging onto a busy highway after driving only 1000 miles. Additionally, I have been experiencing daily malfunctions with the parking brake, excessive window wind noise, and issues with the software and throttle control. While I have been disappointed with the situation, I am confident that Toyota Corporate will address these issues in a professional and satisfactory manner. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  2. Hobart Stiedemann 2024-11-26

I recently purchased the 2024 Tundra Limited Hybrid CrewMax and unfortunately, it hasn't met my expectations. While the hybrid system is impressive and provides great power and towing capabilities, the rest of the truck seems to be poorly put together. The interior is plagued with plastic squeaks and rattles, and the headliner is loose. The composite bed, while durable, makes a lot of noise on bumpy roads. Additionally, the factory alignment caused the front wheels to scrub off on the outside edges. The wind noise around the front passenger windows at highway speeds is also quite loud and uncomfortable. Although the remote start has limited range and a complicated sequence, it does work when you're close to the truck. However, it shuts off when you open the door or drop the tailgate, which is inconvenient. Despite these issues, I appreciate the power of the hybrid system and the durability of the composite bed. I hope Toyota can improve the quality of their trucks in the future.

  3. Gregg Grimes 2024-11-08

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to let you know that I had a bit of an issue with the side trim on my car after a carwash. It partially popped off, so I'll be heading back to the dealer to have it removed or replaced. Honestly, the trim looks like it was added as an afterthought. Additionally, this morning I experienced a leak from the sunroof onto the driver's side grab bar. On the bright side, the fuel economy is good at 13.8 per 100km. However, compared to my 4 runner, it's definitely not built with the same quality team. I paid $90,000 Canadian for this car, so I was expecting better quality. Thank you for your help!

  4. Zion Gleason 2024-08-18

The truck has a great appearance, but unfortunately, there have been some quality issues. There are a few design flaws and some build quality problems. Some of the issues include cup holders that don't hold cups very well, several recalls, cruise control that consistently travels 1-2 mph below the set limit, and a fuel gauge that is off by about 100 miles. These are not only my issues, but known issues across the ownership base. My particular issue is excessive wind noise. The wind coming in from both driver and passenger sides is very loud. Although Toyota replaced the window seals, it didn't help. When I took it back, Toyota said that it's a loud truck, which is normal. This is a known issue. It's very disappointing from Toyota for a $75K truck.

  5. Americo Champlin 2024-08-16

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with the 2024 Tundra. I found the interior to be really spacious and comfortable, which is great. However, I did notice that the gas mileage tends to hover around 15, even when I have the engine on eco mode and drive sensibly. Additionally, I've noticed some wind noise coming from the driver and passenger doors, which can be a bit annoying. Overall, I'm not sure if I would say that the truck is worth the money. Thanks for listening!

Positive 2024 Toyota Tundra car reviews

  1. Jedidiah Feeney 2024-11-17

I bought this Tundra with the intention of keeping it. Although some of the reviews made me nervous, I have not experienced any of the issues mentioned. The ride is great, there is no wind noise whatsoever, and it handles just as I expected - with smooth and fast acceleration. It's a 6000 lb beast, but the safety sensors work perfectly. The gas mileage is a little better than the 5.7 V8. The only small downside is that I expected more from the JBL system, but it will do. Additionally, it has a wide turning radius. However, I believe Toyota has worked out the kinks by the late 2023 build.

  2. Junius Harris 2024-11-10

I think the only downside is its consumption, which is quite high due to its hybrid system. However, it's not a vehicle with a lot of power.

  3. Aaron Konopelski 2024-09-21

My husband surprised me with a 23’ Tundra Limited and it is absolutely stunning! The ice cap white color is gorgeous and I love the tech/lighting package with the upgraded media system and great bed lighting. The side button next to the taillamp that releases the gate is so convenient, especially when your arms are full of cargo. I also opted for the panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated seats. I asked for a 4x4 just in case I want to have some fun and it never hurts to have it! The standard pioneer system gives decent sound for when I'm riding kid-free. The air ventilation is great for my two kids who always complain about being cold when we're driving around. The seats are firm but super supportive and comfortable, making me feel like I'm in a big diesel truck. The WHOLE rear window rolls down in classic Toyota style. The engine power is great and the ride is very smooth for a 4 wheel drive truck, feeling like an SUV. The cabin is thoughtfully laid out and practical, with tons of trays, cup holders and a wireless charger. The media system is pretty easy to use. Overall, I'm super happy with this beast. It feels like a dream!I think my only concern is that the side steps are a bit tight to the body, so you need to be careful when stepping up to avoid slipping. I recently switched from a 2018 Expedition Limited Max, which was a nightmare, to this truck. It's a beautiful SUV, but unfortunately, I've had a million issues with it. Ford service has been less than satisfactory. I'm so glad to be back in a Toyota. The solid quality is incomparable. If your wife has been asking for a truck, this one is definitely worth considering!

I waited until 2024 for Toyota to work out the bugs that come with a new product release. I am glad I did. The truck is overall well-built and the ride is smoother than many reviews suggest. The fuel consumption is noticeably better than my 2018 Ford F-150 V8. There are lots of bell and whistle electronics that can be distracting at first, but overall it's a well-built truck with obvious quality. The only downside so far is a whistle from the climate control system that comes and goes. However, the dealership was right on it and said there was no problem and they would look at it. I expect it will get resolved. Compared to my Ford, the Toyota is just as good of a truck with the certainty of reliability. That's not always the case with North American trucks. If you're pulling a large, heavy 5th wheel, get a hybrid or go North American with the extended warranty. But for everyday towing, the Toyota is more than up to the challenge.

Noticeable vibration and some hesitation in the drivetrain at takeoff and acceleration. However, I still prefer it over the F150, RAM, and Silverado! As someone who owns a used truck/car dealership for the past 22 years and has owned several Tundras and Lexuses, I believe in the superior reliability of Toyota.
