I was told by the dealership that the short block would need to be replaced and that they found chunks of metal up to 2 inches in the oil pan. Vehicle is at dealership awaiting parts for repair and can be inspected anytime.

Vehicle Information: Make: Toyota Model: Tundra Year: 2022 VIN: [Vehicle Identification Number] Recall Campaign Number: RMISC-24V381-8150 Recall Details: My vehicle was brought in for a recall issue related to a major engine failure, which is a significant safety concern, in May [year]. Despite the considerable time that has passed since then, I have been informed today that the repair cannot yet be performed. Given the severity of the issue and the extended time my vehicle has been out of service, I believe it is unreasonable to continue waiting for a resolution. Therefore, I am requesting that the dealership buy back my vehicle as a resolution to this matter. Since my truck has been in the repair facility, I have been driving rental trucks. This situation has been both inconvenient and costly. The prolonged absence of my vehicle has disrupted my daily life and work activities. I would like to request the following: An Immediate Status Update: Please provide me with a detailed update on the current status of the recall repair for my vehicle. Expected Timeline: An estimated timeline for when I can expect my truck to be repaired and returned to me. Buyback Request: I request that the dealership purchase my vehicle back given the unresolved and safety-critical nature of the recall issue. Compensation Information: Information on any potential compensation or reimbursement for the extended period I have had to use rental trucks due to this recall.

  • Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL
  • Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Control and Displays."
  • Consequence: A blank display will not show critical information such as the speedometer or warning lights, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will update the combination meter ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 17, 2023. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 23TA02.

  • Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
  • Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Lexus NX250, NX350, and Toyota Tundra vehicles. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
  • Consequence: An electronic parking brake that cannot be engaged while in "park," may result in a vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the Skid Control ECU, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 1, 2022. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 22TA11 and 22LA04.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
  • Consequence: A rearview camera that fails to display the correct image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the parking assist ECU, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 27, 2022. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 22TA07.

Negative 2022 Toyota Tundra car reviews

  1. Orlando Runolfsdottir 2025-01-05

I've been driving my Tundra for six months now and I absolutely love how it handles, especially the big screen. However, I have noticed some issues with the build quality. Unfortunately, the body seems to be quite fragile. I had a couple of minor incidents where I gently reversed into a pile of snow, but both times the car sustained damage. The first time, a piece of the right rear bumper broke off. The second time, the bed step was impacted and broke off completely. It's disappointing that such a small impact could cause such significant damage. I used to own a 2013 4runner, which was much sturdier compared to this new Tundra. While the Tundra is fancy, the body is not as reliable as I had hoped.

I am confident in stating that my experience with my Toyota has been less than satisfactory. Despite owning it for several months, it has required multiple repairs and has been in the shop since May, with an expected release date in September. The constant need for repairs has been frustrating and has prevented me from being able to use the vehicle as intended. I believe that a different brand, such as Ford, would have been a more reliable choice for my needs.

It's unfortunate to hear that you're experiencing some issues with your 2022 Tundra. Have you noticed any improvements in fuel efficiency compared to older models? It sounds like the power steering could use some improvement, especially on curves. Additionally, it seems like there may be some issues with the Android Auto system due to the electricity systems. Have you considered reaching out to a Toyota dealership for assistance? If you're still unsatisfied, it may be worth considering other options, such as your previous Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Out of the 7 Toyotas we have owned, 4 were Tundras, and we currently own a 2013 and a 2022 model. However, we have noticed that the seats in the 2022 model are uncomfortable due to the springy feel, and the ride is noisy with wind noise being noticeable. Despite our love for travelling, we prefer driving the 2013 model due to its superior comfort.

  5. Leone Prohaska 2024-05-18

The rear view mirror does not have a hookup for the garage door and the back seat is quite small. Additionally, the gas mileage is not as advertised and you have to subscribe to get navigation. However, I hope that it proves to be dependable.

Positive 2022 Toyota Tundra car reviews

  1. Terence Lakin 2025-01-01

The truck has some issues that need to be addressed. It tends to slam the brakes on unexpectedly and hesitates between 5 and 10 mph. Additionally, the emergency brake doesn't seem to work properly. There is also some road noise that starts at around 40 mph, which is quite loud and seems to be coming from the front doors. The weather stripping is too small to be effective against road noise. The truck's gas mileage is not as good as advertised, getting 15 City and 20 Highway instead of the promised 18 and 23. The truck also struggles on rough roads due to poor shocks. It has had two recalls and there is a code that comes up indicating charging issues. Overall, these issues need to be addressed to improve the truck's performance and safety.

Coming from a Tacoma to a Tundra is like night and day. You'll love the great power, smooth ride, and plenty of room.

  3. Juston Harber 2024-10-26

I purchased mine in March of 22 and have had a great experience. It's smooth, fast, and the most fun truck I have owned. I have had no issues with this truck, and I live in the country with very little city traffic to deal with, so my gas mileage is 22 most of the time.

  4. Mateo Little 2024-10-16

This truck drives and rides fine. However, I noticed that the fancy armrest makes an annoying rattle sound on roads with minor bumps. Additionally, I found it inconvenient that only the driver's door unlocks when you touch it, while the other doors require you to touch the passenger door to unlock them all. It would be great if there was an option to have all doors unlock when the driver's door is touched.

  5. Glen Smith 2024-10-04

So much space! This truck has a panoramic roof, a 14-inch screen, Bluetooth CarPlay, and even WiFi! It also comes with back-up cameras, a rear-view camera in the mirror, and a camera to check out items in the truck bed. When the vehicle stops, there's even an optional setting to see if the vehicle is in its lane. Plus, with four-wheel drive, this truck is perfect for any adventure. We absolutely love it!
