Nissan Sentra problems

The Nissan Sentra is a series of automobiles manufactured by the Japanese automaker Nissan since 1982. Since 1999, the Sentra has been categorized as a compact car, while previously it occupied the subcompact class. Until 2006, Sentra was a rebadged export version of the Japanese Nissan Sunny, but since the 2013 model year, Sentra is a rebadged export version of the Sylphy. The Sentra nameplate is not used in Japan. Many other countries in Latin America sell their versions of the Sunny as the Sentra. In Mexico, the first three generations of the Sentra were known as the Nissan Tsuru (Japanese for crane), and the B13 model was sold under that name until 2017, alongside the updated models badged as Sentra.
In North America, the Sentra currently serves as Nissan's compact car, despite being rated as a mid-size car by the EPA due to its interior volume since the 2007 model year. While previous Sentras were subcompacts, the Sentra has grown over the years, with the Nissan Versa having replaced the Sentra in the entry-level area.
The Sentra name was created for Nissan by Ira Bachrach of NameLab, and Bachrach describes the origin as "Nissan wanted consumers to understand that it was quite safe even though it was small. The word Sentra sounds like central as well as sentry, which evokes images of safety."

Common Nissan Sentra problems
Nissan Sentra owners have reported several common problems with their vehicles, including transmission issues, brake problems, unusual noises while driving, bad paint and trim, suspension problems, and steering issues.
Transmission issues are among the most common and serious problems that can happen to a Nissan Sentra. In particular, some Sentras, especially the 2019 and 2012-2016 models, have experienced transmission problems. Many owners of these models have reported that the car's continuously variable transmission (CVT) can cause temporary loss of power and total failure. These problems can leave owners with crippled vehicles and large repair bills. The CVT problems are so widespread that there have been class action lawsuits filed against Nissan.
Brake problems are also a recurring issue for Nissan Sentra owners. For example, many 2013 Sentra owners have reported that the brakes don't engage after stepping on the brake pedal until it hits the floor. In some cases, this problem is caused by a master brake cylinder that failed prematurely. Replacing the bad cylinder will resolve the issue. Even the relatively new 2020 Nissan Sentra isn't immune to brake problems. Some units have anti-braking lock systems that can stop working without warning. When the ABS gives out while the car is on a slippery road surface, the driver can potentially lose control and end up in an accident.
Unusual noises while driving are another common problem for Nissan Sentra owners. For example, drivers of some units of the 2016 Nissan Sentra report hearing loud howling or screeching noises during windy days and when driving at high speeds. While some owners suspect it's loose weatherstripping, others have had no luck determining where the sounds are coming from. The car could also vibrate enough to make noticeable noise at highway speeds.
Bad paint and trim are also common problems for Nissan Sentra owners. Many vehicles belonging to the Sentra’s 2016 model year, in particular, have experienced body and paint problems. The paint and clear coat on the affected vehicles’ bodies may fade early or flake off. Chrome trims could also develop rust, while moldings and trims may become loose and eventually fall off.
Suspension problems and steering issues are also common complaints among Nissan Sentra owners. For example, some owners have reported that their vehicles have a rough or slow acceleration, which can be caused by suspension problems. Lackluster technology is another common problem, especially with the collision avoidance technology.
In summary, Nissan Sentra owners have reported several common problems with their vehicles, including transmission issues, brake problems, unusual noises while driving, bad paint and trim, suspension problems, and steering issues. These problems can lead to crippled vehicles and large repair bills, and in some cases, can even be dangerous.
Are Nissan Sentra reliable cars?
The Nissan Sentra Reliability Rating is 4.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 14th out of 36 for compact cars. The average annual repair cost is $491 which means it has lower than average ownership costs. The severity of repairs is average and the frequency of those issues is low, so major repairs are uncommon for the Sentra.

- Summary: [XXX] 06/29 637 1). A feature of the Auto Intelligent Headlight feature is not working on 2020 Sentras, all trims. During the daytime (rain or snow) when the windshield wipers are turned on and swish back and forth 4 times, it’s supposed to automatically turn on headlights (which also turns on tail lights so you’re not rear ended). 2). Additionally, when the headlights are in “Headlight” mode (not automatic mode), the owners manual states when the engine is turned off and the door is opened you will get both an alarm chime and a visual warning on the drivers display that lights are on and to turn them off. Just like any normal car going back for 20 years. Well it doesn’t work in 2020 Sentra. Only way I can get feature to chime or show the display warning is to toggle the headlight control switch to “Parking Lights” and back to “Headlights”!. Of course, if I can remember to do that I could remember to turn off the headlights! Auto Intelligent Headlights is explained on the Nissan website, and the 2020 Sentra Brochure States it as a standard feature on all trims. I also have a personal letter from Nissan stating 2020 Sentras have all of this feature. [XXX] [XXX] It doesn’t work. I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs, after 2 months and being handed off to 2 customer service reps they finally sent a Corp DTS Rep to look at car. After 4 hrs examining it, he contacted the internal only “Nissan Tech Talk”, only for Nissan mechanics and you must have a dealer code to access, not for the public. Turns out, they knew that due to a new wiring system in the 2020 Sentra’s those features and a fog light auto feature don’t work! Apparently it’s a defect, I was never notified they INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The car is really enjoyable to drive. The transmission is highly responsive and there are no annoying downshifts. Although the engine can be a bit noisy, the steering is very crisp and there is virtually no body roll. The turning radius is tight and the road feedback is very good. The car handles well at highway speeds. When it comes to the brakes, it's important to be gentle, or you may warp your front rotors in no time. I have had two recalls for a faulty crankshaft sensor and defective rims, but the dealer took care of both problems and did an excellent job. However, there is one major complaint: the metal under the hood (supporting brackets, heat shields, wire harness brackets, etc.) has started to corrode. On the bright side, the mileage is very good, and I consistently get 33-34 miles per gallon.

I bought this car in '97 with 40,000 miles on it. It has been a reliable car for me, having driven it through Colorado and even in cold Canadian weather. Over the years, I have had to change a few things such as the CV-boots, rear muffler, front brakes a couple of times, heating blower, and thermostat. Surprisingly, I am still driving with the original clutch. Although it is currently experiencing some issues such as burning oil and overheating, it has definitely paid for itself. I will have to look for another car soon, but I will always remember this good little car.

With over 100,000 miles on it, I have had relatively few problems with the car. Although, every problem that I do have, has been electrical. The electric odometer sensor went bad, then the blower switches, and now the left headlight intermittently works or doesn't (there's a short - I have to jiggle it to get it back on - which can be a real pain). But for the mileage, I certainly can't complain too much. Overall, it is a good economical car, if not a bit boring.

I absolutely love my 94 Sentra E 1.6 5spd manual with 150,000 miles on her! She's a true survivor and never fails to impress me. Even if she sits for weeks, she always starts on the first crank. I've only had to do some minor repairs, such as the brakes and alternator, as well as the clutch cable when I first got her. It's now 2017 and I can't bear the thought of letting her go. Unfortunately, the previous owner didn't take good care of her and she started to rot. Before this one, I had a 93' with 180,000 miles that I bought for $400 and put 60,000 miles on over 6 years delivering pizza. She was also in bad shape when I got her, but with some paint and bondo, she was good as new. Sadly, the frame of my current car has seen better days and unless I can get some welding done, it's only a matter of time. These cars are hard to come by these days, especially with a manual transmission like mine. Automatics just aren't for me.

It's such a fun little car to drive! While there are other cars out there with better performance, they come with a much bigger price tag. I've been lucky enough to have this car for almost 3 years now, and I absolutely love the performance. No matter how fast I'm going, if I hit the gas, it still has plenty of pick-up. The fuel economy isn't the best due to the size of the engine, but that's probably just because of how I drive. I will say that the torque can make driving in the snow a bit of a challenge, but it's worth it for how great the car feels on the road. The front seats are incredibly comfortable, although the back seat is a bit small for 2 adults - 3 adults is just plain uncomfortable!

The 2013 model has a known stalling issue that the Corporation is currently working on resolving. Unfortunately, this issue causes the power steering and power brakes to go out, which can be quite dangerous. When I brought the car back to the dealer, they were very understanding and tried to get us a rental car while they worked on the problem. However, Nissan Corporate did not respond to our requests for assistance, even though the dealer fully supported our claim. The car ended up being in the garage for 9 days, and despite being told that our claim was in 'elevated status', we never received a call back from Corporate. The dealer was unable to return the car due to the known safety issue, but we were finally able to retrieve it on the 10th day.

I purchased my car brand new from the dealer in May 2013, and it has never been involved in an accident. However, about 3-4 months after buying it, the car started making a horrible grinding noise. When I took it to the dealer, they initially said it was because I had driven through mud, which I found hard to believe. After complaining, they finally looked at it and fixed the defective part. In March 2016, my car started to accelerate or jump on its own while I was driving, and it barely moved when making a left turn, even though I pressed on the gas all the way. There were also times when I pressed the gas and the car felt like it was about to shut off. I initially thought the fuel filter needed to be fixed, but when we took it to the dealer, they found that the car needed a new transmission. Fortunately, the car was still under warranty, so they are supposed to be fixing it. Another issue I noticed is that sometimes the front passenger seat sensor doesn't work properly, which could be dangerous in an accident. Overall, I have had some frustrating experiences with this car, but I am grateful that the warranty is covering the necessary repairs.

When you first get your license, buying a car can be a daunting task. However, I found a great car with around 175k miles on it that has been a fantastic commuter. It's definitely cheap to own and drive, getting around 31 MPG in the city and 41 MPG when traveling. This means that trips won't break the bank anymore! In fact, I recently carpooled with 3 other people to Chicago, which is 5 hours away, and we only paid about $12 for a 2-way trip. Pretty amazing, right?

I firmly believe that my 2010 Nissan Sentra is not the best car for me. Despite its claim of great gas mileage and low maintenance, I have put a lot of miles on it due to my job, and it has required significant repairs. Unfortunately, I have spent almost as much on maintenance and repairs as I did on the original loan, and it is now worth very little. Therefore, I have decided to trade it in and move on to a more suitable vehicle. Thank you for your understanding.

I bought my Nissan GXE when it only had 17,000 miles on it and drove it for years without any issues. I took excellent care of it, but unfortunately, after reaching 100,000 miles, I started experiencing major repair problems, one after the other. The sensors started going crazy, including the crank shaft and cam sensors. I had to replace the head gasket and the steering rack just six months later, and these repairs cost over $1000 each. While I did get a lot of usage out of it, I was disappointed that it didn't last as long as I had hoped. I know people with different makes and models of cars that have nearly 200,000+ miles on them, and I thought I would be one of them, but it seems that's not the case. Now I have to consider purchasing another vehicle, and I'm not too thrilled about it.
