2015 Nissan Sentra problems
The Nissan Sentra is a series of automobiles manufactured by the Japanese automaker Nissan since 1982. Since 1999, the Sentra has been categorized as a compact car, while previously it occupied the subcompact class. Until 2006, Sentra was a rebadged export version of the Japanese Nissan Sunny, but since the 2013 model year, Sentra is a rebadged export version of the Sylphy. The Sentra nameplate is not used in Japan. Many other countries in Latin America sell their versions of the Sunny as the Sentra. In Mexico, the first three generations of the Sentra were known as the Nissan Tsuru (Japanese for crane), and the B13 model was sold under that name until 2017, alongside the updated models badged as Sentra.
In North America, the Sentra currently serves as Nissan's compact car, despite being rated as a mid-size car by the EPA due to its interior volume since the 2007 model year. While previous Sentras were subcompacts, the Sentra has grown over the years, with the Nissan Versa having replaced the Sentra in the entry-level area.
The Sentra name was created for Nissan by Ira Bachrach of NameLab, and Bachrach describes the origin as "Nissan wanted consumers to understand that it was quite safe even though it was small. The word Sentra sounds like central as well as sentry, which evokes images of safety."

- Summary: Car started with a light vibration and after driving for a few feet would no longer accelerate when pressing the gas. For the first few days it would violently jolt like if someone hit me before gaining speed, but when i hit the brake it lags to accelerate. Now the fastest it goes it 20mph. If I press the gas pedal the engine makes a loud noise but does not speed. The dealer provided a code P2895 and suggested changing the whole transmission. The car has kept up with all maintenance checks and fluid changes and is in good condition it just reached 100,000 no accidents. The stalling happened while I was in traffic on the freeway and jolting of the car made it feel unsafe luckily I was able to use the shoulder to exit and call a tow truck. No accident but does not feel safe to continue to drive Cruise control never worked since I bought it. Bought the car new and got it fixed while it was still under warranty but stopped working again. Didn’t bother to cont. getting it fixed since I don’t use it

It happens when I am driving highway speed and when going uphill on the highway as well. I went to Firestone to get a diagnostic check and came out with the code of p17f4. I was surprised given that no check engine light has turned on. I will be going to the Nissan dealership and asking them what steps can happen. This is the second Nissan vehicle (the second vehicle is a Nissan Rogue) that has had a transmission problem.
2015 Nissan Sentra recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2015 Nissan Sentra.
- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.
- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Sentra vehicles manufactured June 4, 2012, to April 9, 2016. The front passenger seat belt bracket may become deformed if it is used to secure a Child Restraint System (CRS). The deformed seat bracket may cause the Occupant Classification System (OCS) to incorrectly classify the installed CRS, resulting in the front passenger air bag to not be turned off as designed when a CRS is in the seat.
- Consequence: If the frontal passenger air bag deploys in the event of a crash when a child seat is installed in the front passenger seat, there will be an increased risk of injury to the child in the CRS.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will reinforce the seat belt bracket as well as reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU), free of charge. The recall began on June 13, 2016. Owners are warned not to install a CRS in the front seat. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669.
- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2015 Nissan Rogue vehicles manufactured June 9, 2015, to June 10, 2015, and 2015 Nissan Sentra and Versa Note vehicles manufactured June 5, 2015, to June 13, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the driver side front and rear doors may not fully latch. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."
- Consequence: A door that does not fully latch may result in the door opening while the car is moving. The distraction may increase the risk of a crash and/or a vehicle occupant may fall out of the vehicle if they are not wearing a seatbelt, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the date, lot number, and cavity code on the left front and rear door latches, and replace them, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on August 31, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

I see that you've had your 2015 Nissan for 2 years and 34,000 miles. It's great to hear that you've only had one minor issue with a front strut, which was promptly replaced under warranty. While the continuously variable transmission may have taken some getting used to, it's wonderful to hear that you haven't experienced any major issues. Although you've had cars in the past that may have had a more comfortable ride or a more luxurious interior, it sounds like this Nissan may be one of the best cars you've ever owned. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
-
I've been leasing this car since Feb 2016 and I've loved it from the moment I laid eyes on it. It's so much fun to drive and it's incredibly dependable and reliable. Plus, there's tons of room everywhere! I'm really excited to upgrade to a 2019 soon!
-
This is my second Nissan Sentra SR. I previously owned a 2013, which was the first model year for this style. I loved both cars, and both were leases. The 2015 had exactly the same options as my 2013. I had one recall on the 2013 and one recall on the 2015, but both were repaired by the dealer for free. Aside from that, I had ZERO issues with either car. The 2015 was a more refined vehicle than the 2013. I see lots of reviews regarding engine/transmission issues, although I only had 30,000 miles on either. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend and purchase the vehicle again. And I did. I now have a 2019 Nissan Sentra SR.
-
The car really grew on me. It was very reliable and perfect for my needs. I just upgraded to a Maxima and I really miss my Sentra.
-
My family has been in love with Nissan for over 20 years. Now that I have one of my own, I'm excited to continue the love affair for at least another decade. Although the Sentra is not designed for speed, I find it responsive and easy to drive. Cruising is a pleasure with little to no road noise, and the 38 average MPG is a nice bonus. It's everything I was looking for in a starter/first car, and I'm really enjoying it so far!

The car's performance in winter, particularly in Buffalo, is subpar. The tires that came with the car were bald after just one year of basic driving, and the acceleration is lacking. Additionally, both key fobs stopped working after two years, and the dealership requested payment for battery replacement despite being under warranty. However, it is worth noting that the car is highly fuel-efficient.
Domenick Simonis 2024-09-07
Both cars are now manufactured in Mexico, rather than Japan or the U.S. Unfortunately, I recently received a class action letter due to transmission problems. Despite my disappointment, I have had great experiences with Sentra models in the past.
Madyson Dicki 2024-08-25
I bought my 15 Sentra brand new and have been driving it for a little over 2 years now. It's a very comfortable and soft riding cruiser, which I really enjoy. Although, I have had some issues with the CVT transmission, which Nissan needs to work on. It tends to clump and groan from time to time, especially in stop and go traffic, and hesitates to take off most of the time. I've also had to bring it in for different sorts of defects. However, it has been reliable in the sense that it has never left me stranded. With 44K on the odometer, I'm considering trying out a Hyundai next time. Interestingly, I had an Elantra as a rental when my Nissan was in the shop for warranty covered issues, and it got the same good gas mileage as my Nissan does.
Cletus Welch 2024-08-08
The car looks good and the interior feels nice, but unfortunately my driving experience was terrible. The acceleration was incredibly slow, even when flooring it, I could barely get ahead of traffic. Just trying to keep up with traffic, I almost had to floor it anyways, making the engine scream while others were completely silent. The brakes were also terrible, making me feel like I was trying to stop a bar of soap on a wet floor. The steering wheel felt very cheap and I never felt safe in this car. Although the computer said I had an mpg of 39, my own calculations found that result completely bogus and I only got 25 mpg, even though I was driving 90% of the time on the freeway at 65mph. As someone who is used to driving a Yaris, I found this car to be too expensive and not worth the investment. Unfortunately, the Sentra just didn't feel safe to me and I would only drive this car in a life or death situation. In fact, I sold the car 8 months after buying it because I was worried about getting into an accident while driving 80 miles daily. The only moment I liked the car was when I bought it because it looked good, but driving it was a nightmare. I'm so happy I sold this car and I will never buy it again!
Cletus Crona 2024-07-18
I had an accident in this car at a low speed due to a truck slamming on its brakes. Unfortunately, I was unable to stop in time and ended up hitting the rear of the truck. The cost of repair was over $4,000.00 to the front end. Although I personally would not own this car, my wife likes it because it is a pretty car and the dash is great. We have only driven 150 miles so far and the gas mileage is not what was advertised. While I do not think this Sentra SV is the safest car to be in during a bad accident, it does have a smooth ride. I have read other reviews of airbags not deploying anywhere in the car, which is concerning. My son recently purchased a 2016 Sentra and is experiencing similar problems. I would not buy another one. However, I would consider buying the Rouge. Unfortunately, the payments were out of our reach, so we opted for a 2017 Rouge instead. We have experienced a problem with a vibration in the steering wheel, which we believe comes from the transmission. Ted Russel Nissan says it is normal, but it is very annoying on long drives. However, if you use the sport mode, the vibration goes away. Overall, I like the Rouge's performance and smooth ride. I got rid of the Sentra and will not be buying a vehicle from Ted Hussler Russel again as I do not appreciate being called a liar by the manager.
