2022 Nissan Sentra problems
The Nissan Sentra is a series of automobiles manufactured by the Japanese automaker Nissan since 1982. Since 1999, the Sentra has been categorized as a compact car, while previously it occupied the subcompact class. Until 2006, Sentra was a rebadged export version of the Japanese Nissan Sunny, but since the 2013 model year, Sentra is a rebadged export version of the Sylphy. The Sentra nameplate is not used in Japan. Many other countries in Latin America sell their versions of the Sunny as the Sentra. In Mexico, the first three generations of the Sentra were known as the Nissan Tsuru (Japanese for crane), and the B13 model was sold under that name until 2017, alongside the updated models badged as Sentra.
In North America, the Sentra currently serves as Nissan's compact car, despite being rated as a mid-size car by the EPA due to its interior volume since the 2007 model year. While previous Sentras were subcompacts, the Sentra has grown over the years, with the Nissan Versa having replaced the Sentra in the entry-level area.
The Sentra name was created for Nissan by Ira Bachrach of NameLab, and Bachrach describes the origin as "Nissan wanted consumers to understand that it was quite safe even though it was small. The word Sentra sounds like central as well as sentry, which evokes images of safety."

Common 2022 Nissan Sentra problems
The Nissan Sentra, a compact sedan produced by Nissan, has been in continuous production for over three decades, and like most vehicles, it has had its share of problems. While the 2022 model year is relatively new, it is not immune to issues. Here are some common problems reported by 2022 Nissan Sentra owners:
- Sensor and Electrical Issues: Some 2022 Nissan Sentra owners have reported sensor and electrical problems, including the automatic emergency brake engaging unexpectedly, causing the car to lock and screech.
- Transmission Issues: Transmission problems have been reported in previous model years of the Nissan Sentra, particularly in the 2012-2016 models, where the continuously variable transmission (CVT) can cause temporary loss of power and total failure. While the 2022 model year is relatively new, it is essential to monitor any potential transmission issues, as they can lead to significant repair bills and leave owners with crippled vehicles.
- Brake Problems: Brake problems are a recurring issue for the Nissan Sentra, with some 2013 models experiencing brakes that don't engage until the pedal hits the floor, potentially caused by a failed master brake cylinder.
- Body and Paint Problems: The 2016 model year experienced a range of body and paint problems, with the paint and clear coat on the body potentially fading early or flaking off, chrome trims developing rust, and moldings and trims becoming loose and falling off. While the 2022 model year is relatively new, it is crucial to monitor any potential body and paint issues, as they can impact the vehicle's appearance and value.
It is important to note that these problems may not affect all 2022 Nissan Sentra models, and the frequency and severity of these issues can vary. It is always recommended to stay up-to-date with any recalls or technical service bulletins (TSBs) related to the vehicle and address any issues promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

- VIN: 3N1AB8CV0NY
- Components: STEERING,WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: On August 21, 2024, my daughter was driving the car and was in the drive thru to get breakfast. As she turn the corner and was in the line to pick up her meal, the car wouldn’t move. She tapped on the gas once more, upon doing so the car veered to the left ( she had no control in the steering) and the tire rod broke causing her to crash into the small cement barrier. I call the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and I was advised to contact Nissan Consumer. The vehicle is not drivable and I was advised to have it towed to a dealership, where it has been for a month now. The inspector went to the dealership over two weeks ago. I was told I would receive an a call regarding the results to determine if Nissan was at fault ( this makes no sense since there’s an open recall and the tie rod is bent/broken). I’ve yet to hear from Nissan Consumer with the results. I’ve left 2 messages and no one has returned my call. The dealership is charging a daily storage fee, car/insurance payments are being made on a vehicle that’s not in my possession. My daughter has to pay for Uber rides for her classes at the school where she has to do observations for her degree. She has to pay for grocery delivery. Additionally, my daughter is a recent kidney transplant recipient. She has doctors appointments she must attend. Without a vehicle, I have to go to a different city to pick her up, take her to the appointment and bring her back. Which means I have to take off from work ( loss wages/ or use vacation time) which I shouldn’t have to, until this issue is rectified. I understand the protocol and we’re not the only consumers with issue, but over a month is ridiculous.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-07-05
- VIN: 3N1AB8CV1NY
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: On multiple occasions while driving, at traffic lights or stop signs, a light will come on the dashboard with a symbols including: Place the key near the start switch --even though the car is already on and running; and other times the car will not start at all with the key next to the start switch; Lower Tire Pressure - although the tires when check are not low at all; Low Fuel Gauge -although I would have just put gas in the car; A phone number from a person that I already hung up from as still an on-going telephone call; Forward collison sensor; Rear auto breaking symbol; ABS symbol, Car crash symbol, warning symbol and words; master warning symbol and words, system malfunction, I took the car two both Universal Nissan Dealership where I bought the car and Glendale Nissan Dealership after the lights came on - they always said, the dashboard lights do not come on when I leave my car with them---they cannot duplicate my concern, however they would ALWAYS clear out pass codes in the car computer systems, which indicates and verifies that the dashboard light was on and which symbol was displayed on the dashboard. No software update was ever offered to me, all things I complained about were consistently denied. Nothing was done to repair this electrical problem or glitch while my car was under warranty -prior to hitting 30,000;The drive car door will sometimes stick and will not open - i will have to exit on the passenger side. Universal Nissan Car dealership lied and said I has body work done on the car and they charged me for checking the door. However a few months later Glendale and CARFAX verified I had not EVER had any body work done to this car! Its cost me to miss work at uber (which is my main income!) for 45 days and have many anxiety attacks. I am paying for a car that is malfunctioning regularly (for nearly 2 years now from brand new at 8 miles -to 50,000), Nissan Headquarters will not repair, replace or buy it back. Nissan 2022 Sentra is a Scam!

- Summary: To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the ongoing safety issue with the 2022 Nissan Sentra, NHTSA Recall Number 23V-581. This recall, which has been open since August 2023, poses a significant safety risk to drivers and other vehicles on the road and their passengers. What is particularly concerning is that similar issues were reported in the 2021 Nissan Sentra models, indicating that this problem has been persistent and ongoing. Despite this, no estimate for a remedy has been provided, leaving affected vehicle owners in a state of uncertainty and potential danger. Furthermore, the fact that the 2024 version of the Nissan Sentra is already in sales without any reported similar problem suggests that Nissan has found a solution for the new versions. This raises questions about why no action has been taken to address this critical safety issue in previous models. It is imperative that Nissan takes immediate action to rectify this issue for the 2022 Nissan Sentra models. Owners should not have to wait any longer for a solution, especially when the safety of themselves and others is at stake. The apparent lack of commitment by Nissan to address this issue promptly and effectively is deeply concerning and must be rectified without delay. I urge the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to request a deadline commitment by Nissan on finding a solution to provide a safety remedy as soon as possible. The safety of drivers must always be the top priority.

- Summary: On [XXX] my son [XXX] took the Nissan Sentra in for service at Coggin Nissan for a routine oil change. My son told me before I made the appointment for service that he thought that some of his fluids may be low because the steering felt weird. I requested that the steering and other fluids be checked as well as the tire pressure. After the service on the Sentra was completed service we were provided with their recommendation for additional services. They listed that the all four tires were worn and needed to be replaced which I thought was odd. They also recommended an alignment and replacing the brakes pads. There was no mention of any other services being required or any mention of a recall. Before leaving I asked the gentleman at the counter if the fluids and tire pressure had been checked and he said they were and that they do a multi point inspection on all vehicles being serviced. I also mentioned to the gentleman that my son was still having problems with his battery, and it was brand new. The gentleman stated that the batteries are not made the same as they used to be and don’t last us long. On Saturday [XXX], just a few days after having the car serviced my son [XXX] was taking his girlfriend home at around 10:30 pm and was driving on [XXX] before getting on [XXX]. He was having issues with his steering and was unable to steer, losing control but was somehow able to pull in to the parking lot of a bank. He hit a curb or something, the tire blew out and he doesn't think he hit anything else but the front bottom front piece on car was hanging and had to be removed. There was also some other damage near tire. I thank God that he hadn't gotten on the highway when this occurred otherwise this could’ve been a lot worse and lives could have been lost. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

- VIN: 3N1AB8CV4NY
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I leased a 2022 Nissan Sentra in February 2022. About two months after leasing the vehicle, I started having problems with the car battery. The car battery would die for no reason at all. I didn't leave anything on the battery would just die. I could be driving and stop and the battery would go completely dead. I've had to get my car jump-started by strangers and through my insurance company roadside so much so that my insurance company cancelled my roadside assistance coverage. I took it to the Nissan dealership several times and each time they said the battery was perfectly fine and they didn't find any issues. However, my battery kept dying and I would be stranded for long periods of times. This continued for months. It got to the point where I had to purchase jumper cables and then a portable charger. I finally contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs about the battery (Case# [XXX]) and they told me to take it to the dealership to be serviced. I made an appointment on 05/23/23 and this time the battery failed and they replaced the car battery. I wish I could say that this was the end of the problem but I was having the same issues with the new battery too. Same as before, several times. Once I stopped at gas station after getting gas the car wouldn't start the battery was dead and I had to get a jump. The car battery was still dying for no reason until another issue with the steering and tie rod occurred on [XXX]. Something in the vehicle is causing the battery to drain. This shouldn't be happening. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Nice ride! I'm glad to hear that you found the pick up to be good, and that the car has good mileage and is roomy. It sounds like you've found a winner! Thanks for sharing that it's the best car you've had in a long time.
-
I found exactly what I was looking for - a sporty car with great mileage - after test driving hundreds of cars. This one quickly became my favorite. However, it's important to note that the car only brakes for traffic when the progressive cruise control is on, and the front emergency stop only works for pedestrians. The rear brakes will stop for pedestrians or anything else. Unfortunately, the Toyota Corolla didn't have enough room in the backseat for a 6 ft tall person to sit up straight. On the other hand, the Honda Accord and Civic, along with the Malibu or the cruise, have a 1.5 liter engine with a turbocharger to make up for performance. But, this comes at a cost as the turbochargers are prematurely failing or the valves for them, causing dilution of the engine oil with gasoline. Turbochargers only belong on larger diesels with high compression. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and would buy it again. The only issue I have is getting in and out. I hope this information helps those who are looking for a car. Have a great day!
-
You've made a great choice with the Sentra! It's such a reliable car. And it's great to hear that you're a returning customer, this shows how much you trust the brand.
-
I love my car! Every time I get in it, I can't help but smile. I opted for the premium package with the beautiful tan leather interior, and I must say, it was worth every penny. I feel like I got the most car for my money. Plus, I'm averaging an impressive 38 mpg in mostly highway driving. I've had it for 2 months now and I have no complaints whatsoever.
-
You've got a great car there!

I'm currently driving a rental Nissan Sentra SV through work. I was surprised to hear that Consumer Reports rated it the best compact car due to its refined transmission and safety features. However, I have to disagree with their assessment. Nissans are known to have very crappy CVTs, and unfortunately, this one does too. It's not always bad, but it has performed inconsistently, making it tedious to drive. You never know if pressing the pedal will give you solid acceleration or if it will whine and be sluggish, which can even be dangerous if you need quick acceleration to merge or pull out in traffic. Additionally, I've been disappointed in the gas mileage. As my job requires me to drive around in city traffic all day, I was hoping for better fuel efficiency. The Sentra is rated for 29 city and 39 highway, but so far, I've only averaged about 21 mpg. In general, I tend to subtract 6 mpg for the city rating if driving in heavy traffic, but the Sentra is doing even worse than that. While the 2020 redesign apparently impressed a lot of people, I still think that a Corolla or Civic is a better choice. However, everyone has their own preferences.

Bought new 2021 Sentra in June. Yesterday went to start it and it says key fob not found when it was right on the start button. Then the battery immediately started to drain. Couldn't get the car in neutral to jump it so had to have someone come out and jump it. After jump says engine malfunction, service now, Power reduced. Had it towed this morning to dealership who cant see it until Thursday and no rentals available. Irritating on a new car. Also I couldn't find a spot to stick the actual key into which is on other years.

The car looks pretty nice both inside and out, and the seats are comfortable. However, the fuel economy and acceleration are underwhelming. Even with a light foot, it's difficult to get more than 25 mpg in the city without the A/C on, and turning on the A/C usually results in 22-23 mpg. The safety tech is impressive, but unfortunately, it doesn't work as often as it should. The car frequently gives false emergency brake warnings and error messages from the blind spot monitor. Apple CarPlay is also hit or miss, sometimes restarting on its own or refusing to work. Overall, the car has some issues, and I'm looking to get rid of it as soon as prices come back down.

It's important to note that there have been some reported tie rod issues with the cars that may affect their safety on the road. Nissan is aware of the issue, but it's unclear whether they will take responsibility for it. Additionally, there have been concerns raised about the effectiveness of the passenger seatbelt during accidents. If you own one of these cars and are concerned about these issues, it's recommended that you refrain from driving it until the necessary repairs have been made.
