While previous Sentras were subcompacts, the Sentra has grown over the years, with the Nissan Versa having replaced the Sentra in the entry-level area.
The Sentra name was created for Nissan by Ira Bachrach of NameLab, and Bachrach describes the origin as "Nissan wanted consumers to understand that it was quite safe even though it was small. The word Sentra sounds like central as well as sentry, which evokes images of safety."

I can tell you that I absolutely love my new Sentra, even though I only bought it today. I went for the base model and I have to say that I love everything about this car. I don't care what Edmunds says with their rating of 7.1, I would give it a 10! The interior is so easy to use and incredibly comfortable. I especially love the auxiliary input jack. While it may be a little bit pricier than some of its competition, I still think it's worth every penny. It has a lot of power for a 2.0-liter 4 cylinder and I just love the velocity. It's really fast and ideal for my daily commute. Plus, it's just plain fun to drive!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with the SE-R that I bought in June. I've been driving it for over a month now and I must say, it's been a blast! I used to drive a BMW 525i, but this car is just as fun and responsive. The gas mileage is around 21 mpg, but I tend to be heavy on the pedal. Although the interior may not be as luxurious as a BMW, the acceleration is just as good as my old car. I test drove a few other cars like the Focus, standard Sentra, Corolla, and Saturn VUE Hybrid (on a whim), but the Sentra SE-R was the one that put a smile on my face like no other. Even when I'm going 80 on the highway, I can feel the wind a bit more than in the BMW, but it's not too bad and the rest of the time it's great. Living in LA, I don't get many opportunities to drive 80 on the freeways anyways. Lastly, I just wanted to say thanks to all who wrote reviews! Your insights really helped me make my decision.

I really enjoyed driving the car for a month. It was both easy and fun to drive, making it perfect for both daily commutes and longer highway trips. The driver's seat provided excellent support, and the driving position gave me a commanding view of the highway. Don't worry about any negative comments you may have read about the interior - it has a classic industrial design. If you're interested, you can look up industrial design or Raymond Loewy for more information on this design style. I found that I averaged about 29-30 MPG with mostly city driving.

I've been driving my Sentra for over a year now and I must say, the new design is a significant improvement from the previous models. It's a French car with Renault roots, built for ride quality, comfort, and quiet traveling. Despite its compact exterior, the interior is as spacious as a mid-size car. I've taken several trips in this car and I don't miss having a bigger car at all. The CVT transmission takes a little getting used to, and on very windy days, the car may drift a little due to its height. If you're interested in a compact car, I highly recommend test driving a Sentra!

I chose the Sentra because it had all the features I was looking for at a reasonable price. However, I did experience some issues with the car. For instance, I had to replace all four tires at 36K and there was a clanking noise under the car during the first week, which was caused by a missing clip that holds the exhaust pipe before the muffler. Additionally, the headrest wouldn't adjust and the fuel door stopped opening after a few months, which unfortunately wasn't covered by Nissan after 1K miles. The paint on the hood started bubbling and peeling off after a few months, and both sun visors needed to be replaced. I also noticed rather large rust spots on the rear door jams and small ones on the roof at around 30K, which required two separate trips to the body shop for rather extensive repairs. The car's fuel efficiency was only average at 27 mpg. Overall, I had some issues with the car, but I still appreciate the features it offered.

I am currently in the ninth month of my twenty-four month lease and unfortunately, I am extremely dissatisfied with the car. The car's brakes did not function properly after the first 1000 miles and despite my initial concerns, it continued to drive poorly. Upon taking it in for a check-up at 3000 miles, I was informed that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced due to a recall. It is concerning that I was not notified of this recall earlier, as it is a major component for the car's safety. As a mother who frequently drives with her children, I am understandably worried about the safety of this vehicle. I have returned the car, but my concerns have yet to be fully addressed.

My Nissan gets pretty good gas mileage at 32 mpg, with 80 percent highway traveling at 70 mph. Although the outside of the car is rather mundane, the trunk has plenty of room for a car of this size. Interior-wise, the lumbar support on the seat is poor, but this problem has been corrected in the 2010 model. For drivers with longer legs, the steering wheel tilts but does not telescope, which can be a problem. The stereo is good, but not great. Strangely, the air conditioning is very good. The transmission is fantastic, and the car lopes along at very low rpm. At first, you have to get used to the fact that it doesn't shift, but the engine is good.

The car has some great features such as a nice Onyx Blue color, good paint finish, decent stereo, and a quiet ride. It is also roomy and has good AC, adjustable cupholders, and has been reliable so far. However, there are some areas for improvement such as the lack of standard ABS and cruise control, hard seats, and LCD displays that are difficult to read with polarized sunglasses on. Additionally, the driver's seat should be centered behind the steering wheel and the steering wheel should be made of a softer material. The car also tends to oversteer and has a lot of body sway when it's windy or near trucks at speed. The performance and handling are bland and the car seems to be seriously under-engineered. Despite these cons, the car is still a decent choice for those looking for a reliable and spacious vehicle.
