2023 Nissan Sentra problems

The Nissan Sentra is a series of automobiles manufactured by the Japanese automaker Nissan since 1982. Since 1999, the Sentra has been categorized as a compact car, while previously it occupied the subcompact class. Until 2006, Sentra was a rebadged export version of the Japanese Nissan Sunny, but since the 2013 model year, Sentra is a rebadged export version of the Sylphy. The Sentra nameplate is not used in Japan. Many other countries in Latin America sell their versions of the Sunny as the Sentra. In Mexico, the first three generations of the Sentra were known as the Nissan Tsuru (Japanese for crane), and the B13 model was sold under that name until 2017, alongside the updated models badged as Sentra.

In North America, the Sentra currently serves as Nissan's compact car, despite being rated as a mid-size car by the EPA due to its interior volume since the 2007 model year. While previous Sentras were subcompacts, the Sentra has grown over the years, with the Nissan Versa having replaced the Sentra in the entry-level area.

The Sentra name was created for Nissan by Ira Bachrach of NameLab, and Bachrach describes the origin as "Nissan wanted consumers to understand that it was quite safe even though it was small. The word Sentra sounds like central as well as sentry, which evokes images of safety."

Common 2023 Nissan Sentra problems

The Nissan Sentra, a compact car produced by Nissan since 1982, has had its fair share of problems over the years, with specific issues varying in severity and frequency depending on the model year. While the 2023 Nissan Sentra is not yet extensively documented in terms of common problems, there are some issues that have been reported by owners.

One of the most common complaints about the 2023 Nissan Sentra is related to the braking system. Some owners have reported that the brakes do not engage immediately after stepping on the brake pedal, with the pedal needing to hit the floor before the brakes engage. This issue has been attributed to a faulty master brake cylinder, which can be resolved by replacing the bad cylinder.

Another issue reported by some 2023 Nissan Sentra owners is related to the infotainment dash system. One owner reported that the dash system failed while driving on the highway, with the screen going completely black after flickering. The dealer suggested contacting Nissan's roadside assistance, but the issue was eventually resolved by setting the shipping mode fuse properly.

There have also been reports of electrical gremlins in the 2023 Nissan Sentra, with some owners experiencing issues such as the car shutting off randomly, the screen and dash shutting off and rebooting themselves, and auto highbeams working intermittently. These issues have been reported to occur within the first 1,000 miles of ownership, indicating potential issues with the car's electrical system.

While the 2023 Nissan Sentra has not been in production long enough to have a comprehensive list of common problems, the issues reported so far suggest that the car may have some reliability concerns, particularly in the areas of braking and electrical systems. It is important for owners to stay on top of repair and maintenance to ensure that their cars remain safe and reliable.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-29
  • VIN: 3N1AB8DV8PY
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: First incident I was driving and my dashboard turned off all the speedometers went to zero all lights turned off. I was able to safely pull over and as I pulled over my dash came back on with malfunction lights flashing - I took pictures tried to get the dealership to duplicate it and they could not. Second incident is my radio, auxiliary ports and center dash screen. After a couple of malfunctions where the radio would turn off and come back on, it finally completely turned off and will not turn back on. I cannot use the radio, back up camera, nor auxiliary ports. Took it to 3 different dealerships where the last one was able to duplicate it due to it not turning back on. Ordered the radio it's on back order with no eta! Brand new 2023 just a year old.

BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-16
  • VIN: 3N1AB8DV6PY
  • Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: I have noticed that there was false alarms coming out of the Forward Collision Warning system and the Automatic Rear Parking Warning system. When I was driving down a road, there was a person walking on the sidewalk not near the actual road itself. My car thought that I was going to hit that person and sounded the warning. For the rear, when I was reversing out of my driveway, the rear parking warning sounded and the automatic breaking came into effect. The car thought i was going to hit the ground, although I had enough clearance. I believe the automatic breaking system for the rear and front is defective and needs more work. I used to own a 2021 Nissan Sentra, same features and I never had these kinds of false alarms as I have with my current 2023 Nissan Sentra.

STEERING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-30
  • VIN: 3N1AB8BV9PY
  • Components: STEERING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: I bought this 2023 Nissan Sentra S on March 3 2023 and it has approximately 23k miles now. During these 10 months, Nissan replaced the axis on the vehicle under their waranty and the clicking sounds still exists after it getting fixed twice. There is also an occassional malfunctioning of the Forward Emergency Brake (the off light blinks with a ! sign). Nissan was unable to replicate the Forward Emergency Brake issue. A new car made last year should not be having this many issues and we are requesting an investigation into Nissan and their practices. They covered the axis issue twice after us not knowing what was wrong but we keep hearing these clicking sounds and they go through a big diagonstic guide corporate tells them to. The car is still under the Nissan manufactuer waranty and we are tried of going to the dealership again and again to fix this. We ran into someone and spoke with a 2022 Nissan Sentra owner who told us she went through something similar with her axis but in an older model. The CarFaxes are attached for the dates of service.

  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Sentra. The contact sustained back pain from the crash, and medical attention was later received. No police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the tie rod had fractured and needed to be replaced; however, the replacement part was not yet available. Negative 2023 Nissan Sentra car reviews

  1. Carson Dibbert 2024-08-29

Bought new 2021 Sentra in June. Yesterday went to start it and it says key fob not found when it was right on the start button. Then the battery immediately started to drain. Couldn't get the car in neutral to jump it so had to have someone come out and jump it. After jump says engine malfunction, service now, Power reduced. Had it towed this morning to dealership who cant see it until Thursday and no rentals available. Irritating on a new car. Also I couldn't find a spot to stick the actual key into which is on other years.

  2. Garrick Hane 2024-03-08

I'm currently driving a rental Nissan Sentra SV through work. I was surprised to hear that Consumer Reports rated it the best compact car due to its refined transmission and safety features. However, I have to disagree with their assessment. Nissans are known to have very crappy CVTs, and unfortunately, this one does too. It's not always bad, but it has performed inconsistently, making it tedious to drive. You never know if pressing the pedal will give you solid acceleration or if it will whine and be sluggish, which can even be dangerous if you need quick acceleration to merge or pull out in traffic. Additionally, I've been disappointed in the gas mileage. As my job requires me to drive around in city traffic all day, I was hoping for better fuel efficiency. The Sentra is rated for 29 city and 39 highway, but so far, I've only averaged about 21 mpg. In general, I tend to subtract 6 mpg for the city rating if driving in heavy traffic, but the Sentra is doing even worse than that. While the 2020 redesign apparently impressed a lot of people, I still think that a Corolla or Civic is a better choice. However, everyone has their own preferences.

  3. Harvey Grady 2024-03-07

It's important to note that there have been some reported tie rod issues with the cars that may affect their safety on the road. Nissan is aware of the issue, but it's unclear whether they will take responsibility for it. Additionally, there have been concerns raised about the effectiveness of the passenger seatbelt during accidents. If you own one of these cars and are concerned about these issues, it's recommended that you refrain from driving it until the necessary repairs have been made.

Positive 2023 Nissan Sentra car reviews

  1. Rolando Nikolaus 2024-11-10

I like everything, except it's just a little hard to get in and out of. But other than that, I love it.

  2. Grayson Howe 2024-11-10

The Sentra SV has an aggressive exterior look and nice interior materials with good space for a sedan. One of the best features of the car is its fuel consumption (I have achieved 49.8 miles per gallon on the highway). The sound system is quite good and driving provides a nice experience. I would definitely recommend it!

  3. Tony Leuschke 2024-08-09

I found exactly what I was looking for - a sporty car with great mileage - after test driving hundreds of cars. This one quickly became my favorite. However, it's important to note that the car only brakes for traffic when the progressive cruise control is on, and the front emergency stop only works for pedestrians. The rear brakes will stop for pedestrians or anything else. Unfortunately, the Toyota Corolla didn't have enough room in the backseat for a 6 ft tall person to sit up straight. On the other hand, the Honda Accord and Civic, along with the Malibu or the cruise, have a 1.5 liter engine with a turbocharger to make up for performance. But, this comes at a cost as the turbochargers are prematurely failing or the valves for them, causing dilution of the engine oil with gasoline. Turbochargers only belong on larger diesels with high compression. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and would buy it again. The only issue I have is getting in and out. I hope this information helps those who are looking for a car. Have a great day!

    I love this car.
