2021 Nissan Sentra problems
The Nissan Sentra is a series of automobiles manufactured by the Japanese automaker Nissan since 1982. Since 1999, the Sentra has been categorized as a compact car, while previously it occupied the subcompact class. Until 2006, Sentra was a rebadged export version of the Japanese Nissan Sunny, but since the 2013 model year, Sentra is a rebadged export version of the Sylphy. The Sentra nameplate is not used in Japan. Many other countries in Latin America sell their versions of the Sunny as the Sentra. In Mexico, the first three generations of the Sentra were known as the Nissan Tsuru (Japanese for crane), and the B13 model was sold under that name until 2017, alongside the updated models badged as Sentra.
In North America, the Sentra currently serves as Nissan's compact car, despite being rated as a mid-size car by the EPA due to its interior volume since the 2007 model year. While previous Sentras were subcompacts, the Sentra has grown over the years, with the Nissan Versa having replaced the Sentra in the entry-level area.
The Sentra name was created for Nissan by Ira Bachrach of NameLab, and Bachrach describes the origin as "Nissan wanted consumers to understand that it was quite safe even though it was small. The word Sentra sounds like central as well as sentry, which evokes images of safety."

Common 2021 Nissan Sentra problems
The 2021 Nissan Sentra has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the key fob, transmission, steering, climate system, and electrical accessories.
- Key Fob Issues: A significant number of 2021 Nissan Sentra owners have experienced problems with the key fob, particularly the "no key fob found" error message. This issue can occur even when the key fob is placed directly on the start button. The problem can be frustrating, as it may require multiple battery replacements, towing, and jumping off the vehicle. Some owners have reported that Nissan Consumer Affairs has been unhelpful in resolving this issue, refusing to buy back or replace the affected vehicles.
- Transmission Problems: Some 2021 Nissan Sentra owners have reported jerking, shuddering, and slow acceleration, which can be attributed to continuously variable transmission (CVT) issues. These problems can compromise driving comfort and safety, as well as reduce the vehicle's overall performance. In some cases, the CVT may overheat, causing the car to enter "limp mode" to protect the transmission.
- Steering and Suspension Problems: Issues with the steering and suspension system have been reported for the 2021 Nissan Sentra. Some owners have experienced metal-on-metal sounds from the front suspension when going over bumps or potholes. This problem can be severe enough to warrant a recall for inner tie rods, as the steering rack may be damaged and require replacement under warranty. Dealerships have reportedly kept affected vehicles for extended periods to address these issues, causing inconvenience for owners.
- Climate System Problems: A few 2021 Nissan Sentra owners have reported issues with the climate system, specifically the air conditioning. The system may blow hot air even when it's off, or the O ring may need replacement, which can be costly and inconvenient. This problem can be particularly frustrating during hot weather, as it affects the vehicle's ability to maintain a comfortable temperature.
- Electrical Accessories Problems: Electrical issues have been reported for the 2021 Nissan Sentra, including infotainment system malfunctions, dashboard warning lights, and battery drain. These problems can be both frustrating and dangerous, as they can affect the vehicle's overall functionality and safety. Some owners have reported experiencing battery drain issues, requiring frequent jump-starts or battery replacements.
In summary, the 2021 Nissan Sentra has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the key fob, transmission, steering, climate system, and electrical accessories. These issues can affect the vehicle's safety, performance, and overall driving experience, causing inconvenience and frustration for owners.

- VIN: 3N1AB8BV1MY
- Components: STEERING,STRUCTURE,WHEELS
- Summary: There is a current open recall Campain ID R23B3 on the tie rods requiring replacement, however there is no current remedy per Nissan. This faulty tie rod can break and cause COMPLETE loss of steering, as there is a STOP SALE on this vehicle it is not safe to drive. Vaden Nissan has my vehicle every 5000 miles during each service/oil change from 2021 until 2024. I also notified the Vaden Nissan dealership again of this open recall issue during my last inspection, they rotated the new tires I had to purchase and sent me on my way. While driving my 2021 Nissan Sentra on [XXX] (a moderately busy highway), I experienced noticeable vibrations through the steering wheel, especially when accelerating and making turns. As I attempted to exit the highway, via a curved off-ramp, the steering wheel became extremely shaky and impossible to turn. I struggled to keep the car within the lane and then completely lost steering control. This caused me to veer off the road and nearly into the shoulder. I experienced such panic and fear as my [XXX] nephew was in the car seat in the back of my vehicle and was also extremely frightened. I am now extremely unsatisfied with Nissan and its lack of commitment to sell safe vehicles, I cannot legally resell this vehicle in the current condition and am left with no option but to drive an unsafe car, under the lemon law I have the right to sue. I pray that IF I absolutely have to drive this Nissan Sentra again there are no injuries, life-altering disabilities or possible death incurred to myself of my passengers. As I have followed all proper protocols and require a rental car that is at minimum safe for transportation. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-07
- VIN: 3N1AB8DV9MY
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: The automated break system came on while I was driving 2 times within 3 days without anything being in front, the back or on the side of the car. When this happened there was a few beeping noise and a quick red flash on the dashboard that said maintenance. This started happening the next day after getting an oil change from the Nissan dealership. My safety was at risked because when the car suddenly and unexpectedly stopped it jerked my body forward causing my neck to become sore. This can cause greater injury or worst if I was going any faster. If someone was behind me it could cause them to crash into me which would be doing the opposite of the purpose of the safety feature. I took the car in to the dealership and nothing could be done because there wasn't a code and it didn't happen in the presence of the mechanic. It could be a sensor issue but I don't know and the mechanics seem to be just as clueless and very dismissive. I find this to be unacceptable that I must drive around with a car that can break abruptly at any given time. I do not feel safe driving this car and it should be a safety recall on this issue. I looked online and seen other people complaining about the same issue so I'm sure Nissan knows what's going on and aren't doing anything about it.

Once I filed a claim with my insurance; the service manager insisted me letting them take the claim. While my car was waiting to be repaired ; the tire rod recall (Campaign Number: 23V581000) was announced on my car and the dealership told me that the recall was not the caused of me loosing control of steering. The dealership had my car for over 60 days repairing my car and Nissan N.A is refusing to reimburse me because they said I had an impact to something and it was not caused by the recall.
STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-04

- Summary: I am simply writing this complaint because the recall says I should if I feel the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy the recall in a timely manner. This recall is over 6 months old with no current remedy available. After 6 months, I would expect a recall that cites a potential increase of a crash to be addressed in a much quicker manner.

I found exactly what I was looking for - a sporty car with great mileage - after test driving hundreds of cars. This one quickly became my favorite. However, it's important to note that the car only brakes for traffic when the progressive cruise control is on, and the front emergency stop only works for pedestrians. The rear brakes will stop for pedestrians or anything else. Unfortunately, the Toyota Corolla didn't have enough room in the backseat for a 6 ft tall person to sit up straight. On the other hand, the Honda Accord and Civic, along with the Malibu or the cruise, have a 1.5 liter engine with a turbocharger to make up for performance. But, this comes at a cost as the turbochargers are prematurely failing or the valves for them, causing dilution of the engine oil with gasoline. Turbochargers only belong on larger diesels with high compression. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and would buy it again. The only issue I have is getting in and out. I hope this information helps those who are looking for a car. Have a great day!

I'm really enjoying my new Sentra! The stereo system and safety features are great. I especially love the backup camera, remote start, and blind spot indicators. I'm planning to take it on a trip next month and test out the cruise control. The only thing I wish it had was a bit more pickup like my 2012 Altima. Overall, I really love this car!
-
The car boasts precise steering, careful damping, and excellent road holding. The interior finish is elegantly designed, and the exterior curves are sharp and eye-catching. The engine is both voluntary and economic, making for a dynamic and pleasant driving experience. We can clearly see Nissan's impressive research progress.
-
The computer system in my Sentra is the only thing I would critique. It's a bit lackluster and could use more apps.
-
At 44 years old and 6 feet tall, I absolutely love this car! It handles amazingly and gets great gas mileage. Not to mention, it looks cool and is a real hit with the ladies!

The rear camera intermittently malfunctions. Despite having visited the service center multiple times for my brand new car, the issue persists.

Great redesign! It's unfortunate that there were a few things that should have been tested and fixed, such as the engine occasionally skipping when accelerating, the lack of wireless Android, and poor headlight visibility. Additionally, it would have been nice to have a visor light with a mirror. As for gas mileage, I have mixed feelings. I only drive to and from work and fill up the tank every 2 weeks, but when driving long distances, I find myself needing to fill up every 250 miles, even though the tank is supposed to last for 375+ miles.

I replaced the emergency brake sensor and all 4 door lock actuators on my brand new car due to issues with the doors not locking. Although there is an 8 second lag when connecting to Bluetooth, the car functions well. However, the no seatbelt sound can be bothersome as it continues to beep even when in a drive through.

I recently purchased a 2020 Sentra and unfortunately experienced some issues with it. After hearing a thumping sound in the front tire, I immediately took it to the dealer. Although it took them 30 days to diagnose the problem, they were very helpful throughout the process and even provided me with a loaner car. In the end, they swapped the car for another one. While the car looked flashy for its price, it didn't meet my expectations in terms of quality. However, I was able to sell it on Carvana for a profit of $3500, which was a great relief during the difficult times of the pandemic. Although I wasn't a Nissan person before, I appreciate the assistance provided by the dealer and would consider them in the future. - The End

Hello! I've owned quite a few cars in my 71 years, and I wanted to share my experience with the Nissan Sentra 2020. My son, daughters, neighbors, and I all recommend this car. We found it to be the best out of all the cars we've owned, including the iPhone 6 centers. The SR model is top of the line and definitely worth considering. If you're looking for a great deal, I recommend checking out Hill Nissan in Winter Haven. I saved quite a few dollars by purchasing from them. Overall, I highly recommend the Nissan Sentra 2020 SR model to anyone in the market for a new car. Thank you for reading!
