1995 Nissan Sentra problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Sentra is a series of automobiles manufactured by the Japanese automaker Nissan since 1982. Since 1999, the Sentra has been categorized as a compact car, while previously it occupied the subcompact class. Until 2006, Sentra was a rebadged export version of the Japanese Nissan Sunny, but since the 2013 model year, Sentra is a rebadged export version of the Sylphy. The Sentra nameplate is not used in Japan. Many other countries in Latin America sell their versions of the Sunny as the Sentra. In Mexico, the first three generations of the Sentra were known as the Nissan Tsuru (Japanese for crane), and the B13 model was sold under that name until 2017, alongside the updated models badged as Sentra.

In North America, the Sentra currently serves as Nissan's compact car, despite being rated as a mid-size car by the EPA due to its interior volume since the 2007 model year. While previous Sentras were subcompacts, the Sentra has grown over the years, with the Nissan Versa having replaced the Sentra in the entry-level area.

The Sentra name was created for Nissan by Ira Bachrach of NameLab, and Bachrach describes the origin as "Nissan wanted consumers to understand that it was quite safe even though it was small. The word Sentra sounds like central as well as sentry, which evokes images of safety."

Common 1995 Nissan Sentra problems

The 1995 Nissan Sentra Super Saloon 1.4MT is a popular choice among car buyers due to its affordable price and ease of maintenance. However, like any other car, it has its own set of problems that potential buyers should be aware of. Here are some of the common issues reported by owners of the 1995 Nissan Sentra Super Saloon 1.4MT:

  1. Idle Problems: One of the most common problems reported by owners of the 1995 Nissan Sentra Super Saloon 1.4MT is idle problems. This issue is often caused by a dirty mass airflow sensor, which can be easily fixed by cleaning it. However, if left unattended, this problem can lead to poor fuel economy and decreased performance.
  2. Small Back Seat: The 1995 Nissan Sentra Super Saloon 1.4MT has a small back seat, which can be uncomfortable for passengers, especially on long drives. This is a common issue in compact cars, and the Sentra is no exception.
  3. Parts Availability: One of the advantages of buying a 1995 Nissan Sentra Super Saloon 1.4MT is the availability of parts. Parts for this car are easy to find and are relatively cheap, making maintenance and repairs more affordable.
  4. Durable Engine: Despite its age, the 1995 Nissan Sentra Super Saloon 1.4MT has a durable engine that can last for a long time with proper maintenance. This is one of the reasons why this car is still popular among car buyers today.
  5. Rust Resistance: The 1995 Nissan Sentra Super Saloon 1.4MT is not as prone to rust as other cars of the same era, such as Hondas and Mazdas. This is a significant advantage, especially for buyers who live in areas with harsh winters and salted roads.

In addition to these issues, the 1995 Nissan Sentra Super Saloon 1.4MT may also have some common problems that affect all cars of this era, such as worn-out brakes, old batteries, and faulty ignition systems. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these issues and ensure the car's longevity.

In conclusion, the 1995 Nissan Sentra Super Saloon 1.4MT is a reliable and affordable car that is easy to maintain and repair. However, potential buyers should be aware of its common issues, such as idle problems and a small back seat, and take the necessary steps to prevent and address them. With proper care and maintenance, this car can provide years of reliable service and enjoyment.

FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2004-11-05
  • VIN: 4N2DN11W2SD
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER
  • Summary: I HAVE A 1995 NISSAN QUEST VEHICLE THAT HAD A SAFETY RECALL FOR A CRACKED FUEL TANK VENT HOSE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FIRE. THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED IN JUNE 2001 WITH THE RECALL NOTICE STATING THAT THE HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TO PREVENT THE HOSE FROM CRACKING AND CAUSING A FUEL LEAK. ON NOV. 5TH 2004, MY VEHICLE FAILED IT'S ANNUAL STATE EMISSIONS TEST, WITH THE REPORT SAYING THAT I HAD A FUEL SYSTEM LEAK. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED THE FUEL TANK VENT HOSE CRACKED AND LEAKING AND CHARGED ME $170 TO REPLACE IT. I PROTESTED THE CHARGE BECAUSE THE RECALL WORK WAS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. THIS SAFETY RECALL IS NOT EFFECTIVE. NISSAN TOLD ME THAT THE RECALL WORK IS ONLY WARRANTED FOR 1 YEAR. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS FROM HAPPENING AND THE LATEST WORK SHOULD BE COVERED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR NISSAN WOULD AGREE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE EXPENSE. SINCE THE HOSE SHOULD NOT HAVE CRACKED AGAIN, I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE EXPENSE. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE RECALL WORK WAS NOT EFFECTIVE.*AK

I HAVE ALWAYS HAD ONE PROBLEM WITH ANTILOCK BREAKS THAT THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I NOTICED THAT THE NEW CABLE WAS LUBRICATED WITH A VERY HEAVY GREASE THAT IMPEDED MOVEMENT OF THE CABLE. DURING THE WINTER MONTHS THAT FOLLOWED THE THROTTLE RETURNED TO IDLE SO SLOW THAT IT WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE CAR. DURING THE THESE PAST SUMMER MONTHS IT IS SOMEWHAT BETTER, BUT STILL SLUGGISH TO RETURN. I HAVE CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY HAVE ORDERED THREE REPLACEMENT CABLES, ALL WITH THE SAME PROPLEM. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED NISSAN MOTOR COMPANY TWICE WITH NO RESULTS. Negative 1995 Nissan Sentra car reviews

  1. Larue Stamm 2024-07-15

Lasted less than a week. I noticed some warning signs such as engine stall in reverse, poor acceleration, and strange hesitation from stop-go. Unfortunately, nobody listened to my concerns. Despite being dismissed as 'just a blonde', I experienced a terrifying incident on my way back to VA from SC. The car literally BLEW UP, causing a fire under the engine, loss of control, and TONS of smoke. It was a very scary experience. The car had to be towed and the engine replaced, but it was all in vain. Please be careful and take my experience into consideration!

  2. Leif Grady 2024-06-09

The value is less than the scrap price, but it presents an opportunity for a school project. Everything needs some TLC.

Positive 1995 Nissan Sentra car reviews

  1. Elliot Heaney 2024-11-22

This is an excellent economy family car that is compact and best suited for four people.

  2. Gilbert Windler 2024-10-29

It's so great to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your 1995 Nissan Sentra Xe! It's amazing that it's still running so well after 8 years of use and 159000 miles. Although it's had a few mechanical problems, it's great to hear that they were minor and that the engine is still running strong. It's also fantastic that it's been such an inexpensive car for you. The only downside seems to be the small cup holders, which can be a bit annoying, especially when using larger cups. Despite this, it's clear that you're very happy with your purchase and would buy it again if given the chance. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

  3. Osbaldo Johnston 2024-08-21

I bought my Sentra with 103,000 miles and it now has 160,000 miles. It runs like a Swiss watch and is great for driving in the snow. Although I have had to repair a few small issues such as the starter, brakes, exhaust leak, and valve cover gasket, they were just normal repairs. I love the styling of the car, especially from the back as it reminds me of a Saab. It is a good, solid car for transportation and out of my 6 cars, the Sentra requires the fewest repairs. I would love to find another one!

It's great to hear that your Sentra GXE has been such a reliable car! With only new tires and a new alternator needed, it sounds like you made an excellent purchase. While the back seat may not be the most spacious for taller passengers and the trunk is smaller than your previous Honda Civic, it's clear that this car has served you well.

Bought it new, and it's still going strong with 213k miles! It's the most reliable car I've ever had (and I've owned some Hondas). I'm so glad I got the 5-speed, even though the engine doesn't have much low-end torque. You really have to ring the power out of it, but it's worth it. I think it would be frustrating to drive with an automatic. Overall, it's a fantastic car!
