2013 Nissan Sentra problems
The Nissan Sentra is a series of automobiles manufactured by the Japanese automaker Nissan since 1982. Since 1999, the Sentra has been categorized as a compact car, while previously it occupied the subcompact class. Until 2006, Sentra was a rebadged export version of the Japanese Nissan Sunny, but since the 2013 model year, Sentra is a rebadged export version of the Sylphy. The Sentra nameplate is not used in Japan. Many other countries in Latin America sell their versions of the Sunny as the Sentra. In Mexico, the first three generations of the Sentra were known as the Nissan Tsuru (Japanese for crane), and the B13 model was sold under that name until 2017, alongside the updated models badged as Sentra.
In North America, the Sentra currently serves as Nissan's compact car, despite being rated as a mid-size car by the EPA due to its interior volume since the 2007 model year. While previous Sentras were subcompacts, the Sentra has grown over the years, with the Nissan Versa having replaced the Sentra in the entry-level area.
The Sentra name was created for Nissan by Ira Bachrach of NameLab, and Bachrach describes the origin as "Nissan wanted consumers to understand that it was quite safe even though it was small. The word Sentra sounds like central as well as sentry, which evokes images of safety."

- VIN: 3N1AB7AP7DL

- Summary: Feb 26th, 2024 i drove my car for the first time since having surgery on Jan. 11, 2024. I was going about 35 mph when extremely fast the car radio turned off it felt as if the engine was also turned off but within a blink of your eye the car was turned back on , all by itself, a tiny jerk, nothing major. I instantly looked at the temp gauge, made sure the key was in ignition correctly. There was nothing to signal a problem. The next day i didnt leave my home. On Feb. 28, 2024 i drove the car about 7 miles and it did this same glitch twice .Again all gauges read normal, i got out of the car this time popped the hood. No smoke , no burning smell or any smell at all. I checked the fluids, the belt, the battery connections everything was fine. Later that night a family member had someone try breaking into their home. Very upset i decided to leave my home and drive over to be if some comfort. I drove a total of 21 miles, as i was turning into the driveway the car fid it again however this time i had to get it in park and restart my car. Again no over heating no smoke no burning or fuel smells. I parked the car went inside. About 7 minutes later , definitely no more than 10 minutes, i heared a loud bang. I look outside and my entire motor was on fire and the tire had already blown!! In under ten minutes!! I tried putting the fire out with the water hose but 911 dispatch heard the second tire blow and repeatedly asked me to stop and go inside the home that fire fighters were on their way . I had let my insurance go since i had emergency surgery and was unable to drive or work and pay for it. I bought this car in aug. 2020 and had to replace the cvt transmission nov. 2022. And now no car. This could have been a tragedy if anyone had small children and had ran back inside because they forgot a coat or a book bag, please look into this for other customers safety. Firefighters said it was so burnt they couldn't begin to tell how or where the fire started.

All the other gears worked at the time besides driving forward. This could’ve ended very badly to other people on the road. I had to take it to a shop twice. Nissan automatically told me it’s a transmission issue and several recalls with CVT transmissions, took it for a second opinion just to make sure and the second shop also said it’s the CVT transmission. My dash did not have any warning lights to show what was the problem.

It stutters and pulls when driving down hill which has caused me to pull over and restart the car in heavy traffic on the freeway. Now the car pulls so much it is not safe to drive above 20 mph. I have taken it to two service centers and both have confirmed the CVT transmission is faulty. No lamps or messages prior to the failure showed up. This started before the car hit 80,000 miles.

- VIN: 3N1AB7AP3DL
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My car just started messing up and I took it to my nearest Nissan dealership and I was advised it was the transmission but before that day I was looking up information on what the car issue could be and it came out to be that there was a transmission CVT recall for my car 2013 Nissan Sentra. I moved from Chicago to Arizona in June of 2020 and I was never informed either via phone or email. I do not thin that it is fair that I should have to pay for this issue at all if it is a manufacturer recall and I was never informed of the recall.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-07
- VIN: 3N1AB7AP1DL
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I own a 2013 Nissan Sentra SR with only 69,000 miles. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained with all recommended services being performed. The vehicle has had the factory/dealer recommended CVT reprogramming as well as CVT fluid exchange and coolant flush services. On May 25, 2023, my daughter was driving home from work when without warning the vehicle went into limp mode on the freeway causing it to decelerate rapidly, swerve and almost cause an accident. The vehicle would not accelerate over 40 mph and was taken to the dealership. There were no warning lights on the dash and no performance issues prior to the incident. The dealer ran diagnostics & code P17FO came up for a faulty CVT Transmission. The transmission was replaced at a cost of $6186.00. This is a Nissan CVT that has been dealer serviced following all preventive maintenance recommended by Nissan and the Dealership. Two days after the new CVT was installed, the exact same thing occurred, with the car again going into limp mode on a hill of a two-lane road with heavy traffic. The car this time was almost rear ended and would not accelerate above 15 mph. The vehicle is now at the dealership awaiting "transmission number three." Nissan Corporate was notified, and a case number was issued, 48966982. The arbitrator essentially washed their hands of the CVT issue and advised they would not take any action other than acknowledging the very long CVT failure history and that the issue was mine to resolve through my dealer. I filed a previous NHTSA complaint documenting the initial CVT failure, 11524137. The CVT failures is an issue Nissan has known about for twenty years, been sued for, yet continues to refuse to accept any responsibility for a flawed component known for failures, thus screwing countless Nissan consumers out of thousands in out of pocket expenses. Nissan should accept responsibility and recall all of these transmissions or be forced to reimburse consumers who have had to replace one.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-25
- VIN: 3N1AB7AP1DL
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I own a 2013 Nissan Sentra SR with only 69,000 miles. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained it's entire life with all recommended services being performed and then some. The vehicle has had the factory/dealer recommended CVT reprogramming as well as CVT fluid exchange services. The vehicle was purchased for my daughter who drives carefully, ensures the car is clean and well maintained. We have a stack of dealer service records showing an impeccable service history. On May 25, 2023, my daughter was driving home from work that evening when without warning the vehicle went into limp mode on the freeway causing it to decelerate rapidly, swerve and almost cause an accident. The vehicle would not accelerate over 40 mph and was immediately taken to the dealership. There were no warning lights on the dash and no performance issues prior to the incident. The dealer ran diagnostics and code P17FO came up for a faulty CVT Transmission. The transmission now has to be replaced due to failure. This is a Nissan CVT that has been dealer serviced following all preventive maintenance recommended by Nissan and the Dealership (Priority Nissan of Chantilly, Chantilly, VA). The vehicle ran perfectly prior to the failure and there were absolutely no warning signs of a transmission issue before the incident. As part of the preventive maintenance recommended for the vehicle we did the anti/freeze coolant flush at 51K , the CVT reprogramming and transmission flush at 52K, to ensure continued reliability. Despite the car being well maintained and having very low mileage for the model year, the CVT failed with an out of pocket repair of $5,900. The CVT failures is an issue Nissan has known about for twenty years, been sued for, yet continues to deny the problems or accept responsibility for thus screwing thousands of consumers. Nissan should accept responsibility and recall these transmissions or be forced to reimburse consumers. Repair invoice is pending. Car remains in shop.

- Summary: While driving down the road in my 2013 Nissan Sentra on December 31,2022 my cars engine light came on and went from a solid amber color to flashing and then my car lost power and I had to coast down the road to a near by house where I had to have my vehicle towed to my house and it is still sitting at the bottom of my driveway to this day I believe that my vehicle should be showing a recall on the cvt transmission but it don’t which isn’t right. 2013 Nissan Sentra recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2013 Nissan Sentra.
- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Sentra vehicles manufactured June 4, 2012, to April 9, 2016. The front passenger seat belt bracket may become deformed if it is used to secure a Child Restraint System (CRS). The deformed seat bracket may cause the Occupant Classification System (OCS) to incorrectly classify the installed CRS, resulting in the front passenger air bag to not be turned off as designed when a CRS is in the seat.
- Consequence: If the frontal passenger air bag deploys in the event of a crash when a child seat is installed in the front passenger seat, there will be an increased risk of injury to the child in the CRS.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will reinforce the seat belt bracket as well as reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU), free of charge. The recall began on June 13, 2016. Owners are warned not to install a CRS in the front seat. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669.

- Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share some feedback about my car. I purchased it back in March and have put 12,000 miles on it since then. Recently, I noticed a whine coming from the rear brakes and took it in for service. Unfortunately, they said that the rear brakes are wearing and it will take at least a month for the parts to come in. Additionally, I've been getting around 20 mpg and they're not sure why. When I turn the wheel left or right, there's a clunking noise, but I was told that this is normal. On top of that, my front brakes are wearing faster than expected and I've had to bring the car in for service three times already. Lastly, I've noticed that I have to slam on the gas pedal before the brakes engage. I'm considering using the lemon law. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

I've owned a lot of cars in my time, most of which have had over 200,000 miles on the clock. However, when I rented the Nissan Sentra on vacation, I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the ride was. The lack of gears made for a comfortable journey on the interstate, and the car always seemed to adjust perfectly. Unlike other 4-cylinder cars I've driven, the Sentra hovers around 1800-2000 RPM at 70 mph, which means less noise and a more relaxing drive. The car is great for commuting, and the interior is easy to keep clean, especially with the black cloth seats. I liked the car so much that I ended up buying the exact same model and color! While some people may not like the acceleration, I found it to be similar to a 4-wheeler or RX7, with good acceleration on the highway. The gas mileage is fantastic, and I've never had any issues with the transmission. Overall, I highly recommend the Nissan Sentra for anyone looking for a reliable and efficient commuter car.Update May 2021, and I'm happy to report that my car is still running extremely well! Despite a few sets of tires, I'm still on the factory brakes and there's no shaking or shimmying. Over the years, I've had two people back into my car, but thankfully there were just a few scratches and no dents left. I'm honestly shocked that everything is still going so smoothly. Edit: 12/8/2021 - I can't believe I'm still on the factory brakes! Everything is still going well.

I recently purchased my Sentra SR with the Driver's Package and have been driving it for a week now. Although my previous car, a 10-year old Corolla, still had a lot of life left in it, I decided it was time to make a purchase for the future. As a lifelong Toyota owner, I am hoping that this car will be just as reliable as my previous Toyotas. After comparing the 2013 Corolla, Mazda 3, Jetta, Civic, Elantra and Sentra, I found that each car had its own benefits and drawbacks. Ultimately, it comes down to finding the right fit for the driver. What I love about the Sentra is that it doesn't feel like an

Hey there! I noticed that you mentioned driving stick shifts a lot, but have you tried the CVT? It's actually designed to save you money on gas and it's been a reliable mode of transportation for me. Just a heads up though, it's not meant for racing. Also, I wanted to give you an update - as of 5/24/21, I haven't had any issues with the CVT transmission and I'm still getting an impressive 42/30 mpg. Take care!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my new Sentra that I leased at the end of July. I absolutely love it! I turned in my 2010 Sentra and I have to say, I love this car even more. The LED accent lights inside and out are a really nice touch, and I'm averaging about 35 MPG on my commute to work, which is only about 10 minutes mainly on the highway. The engine is super quiet, and I really appreciate both the ECO and Sport features. The only thing I miss is the bigger center console from my old Sentra, but that's a minor complaint. The Black with Charcoal interior is really sleek and easy to keep clean too. Overall, I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable and stylish ride. Thanks for listening!

It's important to consider the company behind a warranty. Unfortunately, Nissan has been experiencing some issues with their CVT and it seems they haven't been as proactive as they could be. I had some trouble with my last Nissan at only 20,000 miles. I've been experiencing an intermittent slip for 8 months now and have even been in a couple of accidents because of it. If you're considering buying a Nissan, it might be wise to opt for a standard shift. However, I must admit that I've had a better experience with Toyota. Thank you for considering my advice.

I had a negative experience with my Nissan CVT transmission after 5 years and 80k miles. Unfortunately, Nissan was unable to assist me with the repair due to the age of the vehicle, despite the 5-year/60k mile warranty. While the dealer did offer me a B plan to purchase a new Sentra, I have decided to explore other options and consider more reliable brands such as Honda or Toyota. As a loyal customer who has purchased two brand new Nissans, I am disappointed with the lack of customer appreciation. I will be visiting a Honda dealership instead.

The review I submitted earlier was not posted by Edmund's. Despite having close to 18,000 miles on my SL, the fuel sending unit failed within the first 500 miles. It took 2 months to get the part and I had to involve Nissan Consumer Affairs. Although the style of the car is good both inside and out, it is poorly executed. Nissan's quality control is inconsistent, as evidenced by the different loaners I was given to fix other issues. The CVT transmission is among the worst built in the industry and I am currently experiencing trouble with the rear drum brakes.

The car has only 16600 miles on it. Unfortunately, it has already had a recall for stalling problems. It seems that the dealer only raised the accelerator level, which has resulted in high transmission noise when coming down slopes. Additionally, the ABS and traction lights have come on. Upon inspection, the dealer found that the ABS connector wire had been cut off. The ABS cable is quite skinny and not properly covered from end to end with thick plastic/tape, which can cause it to get cut or damaged easily by any object on the road while driving. It's important for Nissan to understand that ABS is a major part of the braking system, and their customer service has not been helpful. It would be great if Nissan could recall the cars for replacement of the ABS connector.

Our 2013 Nissan was purchased brand new, but unfortunately we experienced transmission issues before even replacing the brakes. Despite the inconvenience of my husband being 270 miles from home when the car stopped accelerating, we took it to the nearest dealership for repairs. Although our warranty had expired, we confidently replaced the transmission twice, knowing it was the best course of action. While the out of pocket expense was significant, we remain satisfied with our decision. Currently, we are experiencing some issues with the car starting and the gas mileage has decreased to 22-24 mpg. We are confident that we can address these issues and continue to enjoy our Nissan.
