Jeep Cherokee 2014 problems
The Jeep Cherokee is a line of SUVs manufactured and marketed by Jeep over five generations.
Marketed initially as a variant of the Jeep Wagoneer, the Cherokee has evolved from a full-size SUV to one of the first compact SUVs and into its current generation as a crossover SUV.
Named after the Cherokee tribe of Native Americans in the United States, Jeep has used the nameplate in some capacity since late 1973 when American Motors Corporation introduced the 1974 model year line.

Common Jeep Cherokee 2014 problems
The 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been subject to various complaints from owners, primarily concerning transmission issues, engine problems, and build quality issues.
Transmission issues are a significant concern for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, with 1,224 complaints related to the powertrain. One common issue is rough shifting, which, while not severe, can be an annoyance for drivers. A more concerning problem is the transmission unexpectedly denying a gear change and going into neutral while driving. This issue has been traced back to two potential causes: insufficient crimps in the transmission wiring harness and a software issue causing stuck clutches. These problems can render the accelerator pedal useless, increasing the risk of an accident.
Another common powertrain-related issue is breakage of the input splines on the two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU), which directs power from the transmission to the front wheels. This issue can cause the vehicle to become immobile and render Park useless, potentially causing the vehicle to roll away if the parking brake is not engaged.
Engine problems are also a concern for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Oil leaks are a common issue, with cracks in the oil filter adapter housing or oil cooler being the primary cause. These leaks are particularly problematic because both parts are often on back-order, slowing the rectification of the problem. Coolant leaks from the upper radiator hose on 3.2-liter models are also frequently cited. Additionally, the vehicle can unexpectedly stall after refueling due to fuel getting into the EVAP system, requiring the replacement of the fuel pump and evaporative charcoal canister to rectify.
Build quality issues are another concern for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Some vehicles have suffered from shock absorber detachment due to improper welding, which can potentially damage chassis components or tires and reduce braking ability. Wiper failure and corrosion of the power liftgate module are also common issues.
The 2014 Jeep Cherokee has also had problems with its cruise control system, which can malfunction and lead to potentially disastrous accidents. The cruise control system can continue to accelerate after the driver has released the accelerator, or fail to cancel when the brake pedal is depressed or the cancel button is pressed. This issue affected a small batch of vehicles produced between March-April 2014, but it's crucial to ensure that the fix was completed.
In summary, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been subject to various complaints from owners, primarily concerning transmission issues, engine problems, and build quality issues. These problems can increase the risk of accidents and potentially cause significant damage to the vehicle. It's essential to ensure that any recalls or repairs related to these issues are completed to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-11-20
- VIN: 1C4PJMCS4EW
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: 3 times now my car has engaged it's own parking brake and I haven't been able to disengage it. The first and last time it engaged itself in a parking lot after I started my car. The first time I had it towed and the issue had resolved itself before the dealer had a chance to look and since they could not duplicate the issue they let it go. The second time I had it towed to my local mechanic who had to physically disconnect it and reconnect it to get it to disengage. The second time it happened while I was stopped at a stop sign. This third time it engaged at my sons parking school after I started the car. I had it towed to my local mechanic, he disconnected and reconnected and it keeps instantly re-engaging. This is an on-going issue and clearly if it engages itself while running (happened once) is a major safety concern.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-11-18
- VIN: 1C4PJMCS1EW
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while coming to a stop, the vehicle stalled with no warning light illuminated. The contact also noticed that the electronic brake pedal became inoperable and would not engage. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the PTU (power transfer unit) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-15
- VIN: 1C4PJMCS9EW
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: As of this date: Started about a year ago, when Jeep was over 150,000 miles. When accelerating to turn or from a stop sign or light, vehicle would stall, mimicking the feeling the vehicle ran out of gas. This occurred about once a month. Working at home and not driving my vehicle as much its hard to say if it would have occurred more often. Checked for any codes, none appeared. As I have recently started driving back in the office 3 days a week, the issue of stalling at any given time with no warning began occurring more often. Took it to trusted local service shop, they changed the purge valve pump and gas cap, as they were puzzled on the problem. Did not seem to matter if gas was full, half or under half. The issue occurred twice within 2 weeks. Service shop recommended taking to dealership. Jeep dealership are not aware of any similar issues. Which I found interesting as I researched and found massive posts from various jeep forums as well as this one. They capped off hose to charcoal canister, hoping that would help. And told me its a process of elimination at this point. The next evening it stalled again. I have now parked my vehicle as this has become a safety hazard. Stalling anywhere at any given moment could cause a tragic accident. will be contacting dealership to voice my concern. Hoping for a positive resolution.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-10
- VIN: 1C4PJMCS2EW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The PTU on my 2014 Jeep Cherokee failed and was replaced. The attached documents were sent to Stellantis as a “reimbursement request”, was denied per the attached 10/17 email from Jeep Customer Care. As evidenced by numerous online complaints as well as NHTSA Recalls and class action lawsuits, replacement of the PTU was the result of a faulty design and safety concerns. The Stellantis refusal of my claim for reimbursement is unacceptable. What assistance can NHTSA provide to resolve this matter? Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-01
- VIN: 1C4PJMBS0EW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The component that has failed was the PTU. It is available for inspection as well. My familys safety and myself along with other drivers safety was put at risk due to the "recall solution" for the failed ptu splines failing causing my vehicle to lose propulsion and setting the parking brake in traffic while at intersections as well as in traffic. The vehicle has not been inspected by any manufacturer, law enforcement, insurance, or any other. There were no service light prior to the component failing it just happend and almost caused us to get hit in the rear. The lights came on after the component failed, and this vehicle has had the "recall" addressed, but the recal is supposed to keep the problem from happening. Not i have "svc 4wd" light on and the vehicle has issues accelerating, no other symptoms prior to the failure. Fixing a faulty component is by replacing it with OE parts or aftermarket better parts, not programing the vehicle to operate in any other condition other than factory. Not program the vehicles ECU to shut the power off to the main drive wheels and send the power to the rear, and to set the parking brake whenever the vehicle is in park so it doesnt roll away because the failed ptu wont hold it like its supposed to. This vehicle has 137443 miles and it shouldnt have any drive train issues being driven on the pavement only 70% highway travel 30% residential/town travel. The W47 recall isnt a fix and the part needs to be replaced to factory. Tuning isnt the solution. Its causing more problems for people who really like jeeps and costing us more money to fix the vehicle than its worth. Either buy back all vehicles, replace the part the right way, or trade the vehicle in for another of the same make and model same or different trim package. Please do something about this ridiculous "solution" to failed PTU in jeep cherokee trailhawks and even other models if they have the same issue. Its just not safe. Its a bandaided scam to make more money.
STEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-10
- VIN: 1C4PJMAB6EW
- Components: STEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The service parking brake warning pops up on start up (P)!, along with the engine light and the traction control light. A warning that says service parking brake appears, around with a service transmission warning, and occasionally another message saying 4wd unavailable at the moment. Another message says restart car in park at zero speed, which the car is already in park & not moving. The car is not drivable when all of these are on. If I attempt to change gears, the gear light flashes & when the car shifts gears it is very loud. It is also hard to turn the wheel. The emergency park has also come on, in it's own, while driving. Almost killed me on the highway. Had also done it in my driveway, when starting to pull out. Also when the engine auto shifts, it makes like a whining noise. The engine sounds to go in overdrive whenever going down hills or up hills. Down is worse though. This has been doing this since I got the car in 2021. I expressed these issues to the place I bought the car from, just days after buying it, and they refused to fix anything even though it was under the 30 day warranty. They claimed no issues. I have proof of mentioning these issues, to the person who sold me the car through the dealership.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-02
- VIN: 1C4PJMDS0EW
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I was in reverse backing out of my parking spot and the emergency parking brake activated by itself. My car immediately stopped and I was not able to move it forward or backwards. The brake warning lamp illuminated and a "service parking brake" showed up on my screen where the speedometer is. I was just grateful it didn't happen in the middle of the interstate or turning onto a major roadway. I was still freaked out this could happen. My car is still stuck where it went out. I've tried everything I can think of to deactivate the parking brake but nothing is working. This is so unsafe!!!
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-01
- VIN: 1C4PJMBS6EW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: This morning, on the way to work, the electric parking brake module of my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk activated when the vehicle was in motion, making it impossible to accelerate or reverse. If I had been driving on the highway or interstate, this could have been fatal. The tech who towed my car said this is a known issue, and his sister even traded in her Cherokee because of this issue. There has recently been rain in the area, and it is a known issue among 2014-2020 Jeep Cherokee owners that the emergency parking brake module corrodes due to rainfall. The tech confirmed that my electric parking module is corroded. This issue has been confirmed by the repair center, which is charging $1,300 for a repair. I have reached out to Mopar, the manufacturer, to complain. This is a widespread, known-issue among Jeep owners, and there's currently a class action lawsuit against Jeep regarding this issue. There were no warning signs before the parking break activated. This needs to be a Jeep Cherokee recall.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-01
- VIN: 1C4PJMBS2EW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Vehicle parking brake automatically engages when vehicle placed in park and will not disengage. Brake lights are displayed as well as service parking brake message. Cruise control is also affected. Took vehicle to dealer and was told it was the brake switch. Ordered new brake switch and installed with no change. After reading service bulletin NUMBER: 08-060-16 titled “Electronic Parking Brake Module Connector Water Intrusion” I inspected the EPB module and found it to be corroded and partially full of water. Vehicle is not under warranty and this appears to be a very common and expensive problem that owners should not be responsible for. There is also potential of fire and of emergency brake engaging while driving that makes it extremely dangerous.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-08
- VIN: 1C4PJMCS6EW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: While driving at highway speed I loose power on the accelerator, the dashboard tells me to "shift to park" I need to pull off to side of the road without getting hit. Shift car into park. After I do that, the engine starts again and we are back to normal. Sometimes the car turns off during this period and needs to be restarted also, other times it doesn’t . Very scary.
WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-06
- VIN: 1C4PJMCS0EW
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: The lug bolts that hold the tires on are swollen in place and cannot be removed without breaking them. As a result I cannot get the tires off of my vehicle. To remove the tires I have to take the vehicle to a dealership where they have to break the bolts to get the tires off. The jeep dealership told me this was a common problem with jeeps and Chryslers because the factory installs lug bolts with caps on them which are prone to swelling and prevent the tires from being removed. If I had gotten a flat tire I would have been stranded as the tires cannot be removed due to the swelling of the bolts. This is obviously very dangerous as it results in people being stranded on the side of the road because the tire cannot be removed to put on a spare. To fix this problem and prevent it from reoccurring I now have to buy 20 new lug bolts that are not capped and take my car to the dealership where they have special tools to break the lug bolts and remove the tires. This is also causing financial hardship as the new uncapped lug bolts cost $204 and the labor to remove the tires is $312. These capped lug bolts are defective because they are known to be prone to swelling and locking the tires in place. As such this is a dangerous factory defect and these capped bolts should not be used.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-09
- VIN: 1C4PJLAB4EW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION | POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT continues to experience movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft and has caused input spline teeth to wear off, leading to a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If there was a recall performed on this vehicle, it was either too late, or ineffective. Requires a new PTU.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-22
- VIN: 1C4PJLCB3EW
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: When I made an appointment at an authorized dealer and took it in they said I must wait for parts. They put me on a waiting list. During the waiting period my car started to get a check engine light and over heating warnings which the recall clearly states it’s been recalled from over heating. I contacted the dealer who said they didn’t have a loaner for me and they will contact me when the parts come in. All of a sudden the check engine light went off and the car was ok. Finally the parts came on and we took it right away to be serviced. A week after picking it up it started doing the same thing. I had emails going back and forth with service who claims it wasn’t due to the recall. During this I had a salesman call me to ask me to trade it in and when I said no he said, “Good luck with service.” Sarcastically. Finally they told me that they were emailing Jeep awaiting a response. But before this when they thought I would trade it in they were extremely happy. When I decided not to everything changed. My husband who didn’t trust them asked me to have it towed out of the dealer so I did. The car was drivable and no warning lights. Then a day later it starts giving warnings again. The car is now sitting in my garage. If you start it up and drive it the check engine light is on and the thermometer shows the temp going all the way up. I have re-opened my case that Jeep closed on me thinking the car was fixed. It has not been. The car still shows warning engine lights and overheating. It has not been fixed and the recall still stands unrepaired.

Jeep Cherokee 2014 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 13 recalls for different components of the Jeep Cherokee 2014.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)
- Park Out Side: 1
- Park Out Side: 1
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING: REAR COMPARTMENT/TRUNK
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.
- Consequence: A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 49A. This recall supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will still need to have the new remedy performed.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.
- Consequence: A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
- Remedy: FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update that will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheel drive and prevent rolling in Park by activating the electronic parking brake if a failed input spline occurs. This recall began July 14, 2020. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is W47.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.2L engines. In the event that a clutch becomes stuck in the transmission, the transmission software may shift the transmission to neutral.
- Consequence: An unexpected shift to neutral would result in a loss of drive, increasing the risk of crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the transmission software, free of charge. The recall began August 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V69.

- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
- Consequence: If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

- Consequence: Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. I owned a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4X4 4 cylinder, which was a decent car. However, my wife's 2011 Honda CRV EX AWD has been an excellent choice for our family. The 4 Cylinder engine was adequate, but the gas mileage was not great. The transmission seemed to be a weak link and was unrefined. On the bright side, it performed well in bad weather, handling up to 15 inches of snow during a bit of lake effect snow in Michigan. One minor quirk was that the heating and cooling system always reset to the hottest or coldest setting upon restart. The cargo area was considerably smaller than our CRV, which was a bit of a downside. Ultimately, we decided to trade this vehicle in July 2015 with 33,000 miles on it for a Honda Pilot. It simply did not have enough utility for our family and had less storage than our Honda CRV.

I have owned many SUVs in the past, including Tahoes, X5s, MLs, and the original 87 Cherokee. However, the 4x4 Trailhawk V-6 is truly something special. It drives like a luxury vehicle, with a refined, comfortable, and powerful feel. The interior design, materials, fit and finish, and seat design are all first-rate, even better than the Grand Cherokee. The interface screen, navigation, and controls (including backup) are very intuitive and the best in the business. I absolutely love the exterior and interior style, especially the front end. The blacked-out trim on a white Trailhawk with black hood trim is simply awesome. The passing power is totally appropriate for the situation, with partial-throttle downshifts (the 9-speed does not mind skipping a gear) and low RPM at any speed. Plus, it uses regular 87 octane gas. Overall, I highly recommend the 4x4 Trailhawk V-6 for anyone looking for a top-of-the-line SUV with a touch of excitement and passion.

This is the nicest car I've ever owned. It's been very reliable, comfortable, and stable on all types of roads - back roads, dirt roads, and highways. It even got me through a lot of snow this past winter - my husband was impressed with how well it handled in the snow and was disappointed he couldn't play and make it slide. It looks great and can go from classy to sassy in no time. I've put almost 18,000 miles on it in 16 months and I couldn't be happier. No car is perfect, but this one beats all my previous cars, and there have been many. **Update - I now have almost 40,000 miles on my Cherokee and it's still going strong! Last year, my husband got a remote start installed for Christmas, which made this car even better. I couldn't ask for more. :) *** As of 8/1/2017, I no longer have this car. Unfortunately, a tree at work fell on it and impaled it through the dash, completely totaling it. I cried. This was my favorite car ever. If you can get one, do it - you won't be sorry!

There are a lot of negative reviews for the Cherokee KL that are unfair. Like any relationship, the solution is to listen to the vehicle messages and dealer service center. I too was frustrated when my transmission cut power on the freeway at 7k miles, but I listened to the vehicle message prompts and was on my way to the dealer in ‘Limp Home Mode’. The industry’s first 9-speed transmission is incredible, but not perfect and it actually knows that by including a fail-safe of putting the Jeep in 4th gear while in DRIVE allowing speeds up to 40 mph. PARK, REVERSE, and NEUTRAL all still work according to the owner’s manual. I read it and the service manager did not know all this which was annoying. However, after a suspect ‘computer control update’, the transmission dropped 2 days later at the exact same location. I read up on the issue and had a sensible discussion with the service manager who agreed to install the improved 2015 design. FCA contacted me with a claim number and provided a rental car along with a voucher for 5 free oil services. My V6 Cherokee now has 34k miles on it with no issues, other than a noticeable shift from 2nd to 3rd which I understand is worse with the 4cyl, but nothing is defective. The Chrysler 200, Acura TLX/MDX, Land Rover Evoque/Discovery Sport share the same 9-speed and same complaints/good reviews. I did too much research and test drove many crossovers to find the Cherokee to be the best value bar none. It comes with a 100k mile warranty, Smooth V6, over 270 HP, 4,500 lb. towing, 7 sec 0-60, over 30 mpg hwy, industry’s best 8.4” infotainment system, standard leather finishes, LED lighting, and lots of hidden storage space which explains why reviews claim ‘less cargo space than competitors’ as in visible cargo. All of these features are better than base ‘premium’ crossovers which explains why the Cherokee is marketed in Europe as a Premium model.FCA provided me with some oil changes years ago, but I want to make it clear that they did not ask me to write this review. I just wanted to say that Jeep did a great job making things right. I would definitely buy another Jeep and recommend it to others too.

I leased this car and it's a great Jeep! I love the way it rides and handles, both of which are very smooth. The MPG is a little cruddy, but that's to be expected when you're driving a Jeep. The pick-up, however, is really good. I used to drive a Trailblazer, and this car with the 9-speed transmission can really go! We've had this car for two years, and we absolutely love it. We pull a 23' trailer with this small SUV, and we have the 6-cylinder engine. The interior is perfectly laid out, and the seats are so comfortable. I'm 6'6

I could not see a way to update or edit a previous review. It is with a very sad heart that I must update my previous posting, "16 Months of Fun and Comfort"If you read my previous review you'll see that we LOVED this car. But within weeks of posting that and with many miles already on the car, we began experiencing the same frustrating and dangerous transmission issues as everyone else. We just worked a deal to trade the car back in to the dealership on a used Grand Cherokee. We should NOT have had to do this!We were at the point of having the trans replaced, but after reaching out to a number of people who also got new transmissions installed, nobody felt it was a long term fix. Since our own experience did not begin until nearly 40k miles, there was just no way to have confidence in this car anymore. I cannot recommend strongly enough to avoid this car until ZF comes up with a working transmission. With all the lawsuits piling up now, and after paying a record $105M fine for poor response to such issues, I expect they will drop this model after the next year's production run. Such a shame!!!

I was so excited to get a new Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.I have been a Jeep owner for the past 14 years.I dislike the hard shifting in the lower gears. It has been in the dealer 3 times now with 4000 miles. The first time was due to a clunking noise when shifting - I was told there was nothing wrong.2nd time for an oil leak. Now it has been in the garage for 2 days due to a transmission fluid leak.It was barely drivable- stuttering at every accererlation in low gears. Ridiculous!

I was asked to update my review and I am confident in stating that the transmission issue with my 2014 Jeep Cherokee was not disclosed on the CarFax report. Despite this, I am still enjoying my Chevy Equinox. The transmission issue occurred only 11 days after purchasing the Jeep, which had only 40,000 miles on it. The dealership where we bought the car sent it to our local Jeep garage for repair, which took a month. Although there were some issues during the repair process, I am confident that the garage did their best to fix the problem. As for the CarFax report, I am not sure if garages are required to report such issues, but I believe it would be beneficial for future buyers to have access to this information. Overall, I have lost confidence in Jeep as a brand and will not be purchasing from them again.

I experienced multiple transmission issues with my car, which resulted in it shutting off completely while driving in traffic. This posed a serious safety risk to myself and others on the road. Despite my efforts to resolve the issue with Jeep and the dealer, they were unresponsive and unhelpful. As a result, I made the decision to get rid of the car and purchase a safer one. I am confident in my decision and have sought legal assistance to address the situation.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2014 Trailhawk. Overall, I've been pretty happy with it - it's great in the snow and the interior feels luxurious. However, I recently ran into an issue with the Power Transfer Unit and had to take it back to the dealership. They said we weren't the first to have this problem, which was a bit frustrating. Despite this setback, I'm still hopeful that Jeep will figure it out. Thanks for listening!
