Jeep Grand cherokee 2000 problems
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a range of mid-size SUVs produced by the American manufacturer Jeep. At its introduction, while most SUVs were still manufactured with body-on-frame construction, the Grand Cherokee has used a unibody chassis from the start.
Development
The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors Corporation (AMC) was designing a successor to the Jeep Cherokee. Three outside (non-AMC) designers—Larry Shinoda, Alain Clenet, and Giorgetto Giugiaro—were also under contract with AMC to create and build a clay model of the Cherokee XJ replacement, then known as the "XJC" project. However, the basic design for the Cherokee's replacement was well under way by AMC's in-house designers and the 1989 Jeep Concept 1 show car foretold the basic design.
As AMC began the development of the next Jeep in 1985, management created a business process that is now known as product lifecycle management (PLM). According to François Castaing, Vice President for Product Engineering and Development, the smallest U.S. automaker was looking for a way to speed up its product development process to compete better against its larger competitors. The XJC's development was aided by computer-aided design (CAD) software systems making the engineers more productive. Meanwhile, new communication systems allowed potential conflicts to be resolved faster, thus reducing costly engineering changes, because all drawings and documents were in a central database. The system was so effective that after Chrysler purchased AMC in 1987, it expanded the system throughout its enterprise, thus connecting everyone involved in designing and building products.
The Grand Cherokee thus became the first Chrysler-badged Jeep product. Development work for the new Jeep model continued and Chrysler's employees (after the 1987 buyout of AMC) were eager for a late-1980s release date; however, CEO Lee Iacocca was pushing for redesigned Chrysler minivans, thus delaying the Grand Cherokee's release until late 1992 as an Explorer competitor. Unlike the Explorer, the Grand Cherokee utilized monocoque (unibody) construction, whereas the Explorer was a derivative of the Ranger pickup with a separate body-on-frame. A Dodge-branded version was designed as a precaution should Jeep dealers struggle to handle so many Grand Cherokee units.
The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the 1992 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The vehicle that was driven was a Poppy Red Clear Coat 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ Laredo with a quartz cloth interior and high-back bucket seats. Then Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman Young, from the Jefferson North Assembly Plant on North Jefferson Avenue via a police escort to Cobo Hall, up the steps of Cobo Hall and through a plate glass window to show off the new vehicle. Sales of the 1993 model year Grand Cherokee began in April 1992.
Production of the Grand Cherokee started shortly afterward in the purpose-built Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, Michigan. European Grand Cherokees are manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr. The Grand Cherokee "played a significant part in reviving Chrysler's fortunes by moving it into the then-nascent market for high-margin sports utility vehicles."
Upon its introduction, it was the first full-scale manufacture of an automobile in the US using HFC-134a refrigerant in place of HCFC-12 for the HVAC system.

- VIN: 1J4G248S7YC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: After sending my Jeep Grand Cherokee to Pugh’s Service Center in Greenville, NC, in December 2018, because it would turnover, but not start. They replaced the ECM, but had to be taken to the local Jeep dealership for an OE ECM replacement and a crankshaft sensor, in order to get it to crank. Upon getting my Jeep back in March 2019, it ran fine for a few days. Then I went to start it, and it started, but after a few seconds, all of the GAUGES stopped working and all of the WARNING LIGHTS came on. I contacted both Pugh’s and the Jeep dealership, telling me I should just bring it in, to run more diagnostics. The Jeep only has 94,000 miles, and I spent about what the vehicle was worth upon getting it back in March 2019; so I’ve been hesitant on taking it back. There are many other people who have similar issues with the instrument panel gauges and warning lights, from the information I’ve researched online; with no indications of the problem being resolved.

Great handling! It's been a fantastic year of travel, covering over 4,000 miles to Yellowstone and the Rockies with no problems. The year before, I did about 3,000 miles in the Appalachians with no problems. I have really enjoyed this vehicle.
-
I've only had my Jeep for 5 months, but I'm really happy with it so far. I drive it to the mountains every weekend and use it to commute to school, and I haven't had any problems yet. The only thing I'm a bit worried about is that the gas mileage isn't great.

You made a great choice in purchasing our Jeep back in 2001 with only 27,000 miles! While we did experience a few issues initially, such as the transmission modulator valve, fuel pump S/O anti-theft, and a cracked cylinder head at 60,000 miles, we were fortunate that the latter was covered under warranty. Since then, we have only had to replace the water pump at 90,000 miles and have not experienced any other issues. We have been diligent in maintaining the Jeep, changing the transmission fluid and filter every 30,000 miles, spark plugs every 30,000 miles, and oil every 3,500 miles using Valvoline 10W30. We have also replaced the tires three times and the batteries twice. We did encounter some trouble with the front rotors, but we were able to resolve this issue by switching to slotted Powerstop rotors and pads. It's worth noting that my wife has been driving the Jeep to work every day for the past nine years and it has never let her down!

I have just bought my 5th Jeep and I believe I will always own one. I love these cars because I have always felt safe in them. As a frequent renter of vehicles, I can confidently say that Jeep has the highest rate of reliability and is the safest. In my opinion, there is not likely a more comfortable or safer SUV on the road.

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to bring to your attention that I have experienced some issues with the brakes on my Jeep. Unfortunately, both my vehicle and a colleague's have had rotor problems at just 12,000 miles. While the first repair was covered, I was informed that any future repairs would cost $1,200.00. I believe this is a recurring issue with Jeeps and I hope they will take responsibility for the necessary repairs. If not, there are many other SUV manufacturers that do not have these types of issues.

Despite experiencing several issues with my Dodge Aries K car, I took proactive steps to address them. At 16,000 miles, I encountered a brake rotor problem and a hard-shifting transmission that made a clunking noise. However, I sought the help of a third-party service center, and they were able to resolve the transmission issue with a service at 30,000 miles. Additionally, I had to replace the ignition due to a key turning problem, and the fuel pump issue was fixed during the warranty by a recall. Although my neighbor had similar problems, I took responsibility for my car and addressed the issues as they arose.

I think this is a great vehicle, although the brakes have been a bit of an issue for me. I just hit 30K and have already had to replace the front rotors for the third time. Fortunately, Jeep has been covering the cost, but it would be great if they could address this recurring problem. Additionally, as someone who is 6'3

I am the 3rd user of this car. Heated seats & a/c dont work. sunroof no longer seals, power locks are iffy, and previous user had to fix transmission. My feet get hot from engine heat. Replaced the hatchback and hood shocks. I will try to solve the A/C and locking issues. We sealed up the sunroof b/c its a waste anyway - just lets in heat. The biggest problem I have had is the "death wobble". We rebuilt the front-end for $1000 in parts and under a yr later we had the problem again. hubby met a jeep guy and I just bought under $200 aftermarket 2nd steering stabilizer. He was ready to push it off a cliff. I'd rather spend a $1k to get this fixed than to spend another $2k on another vehicle.

Well, I bought a 2000 jeep used in August 02 and my story is no different from the others I've read. First the transmission began to slip, luckly the dealership replaced a sensor and it has been okay since. Then I noticed the roaring in the rear which Jeep said there was nothing wrong with the car. It pulled to the right and a special part had to be order to align the vehicle. Brakes!! Yeah, I'm beginning to understand what that's all about. I've had the car four months, replaced the brakes once and can you guess? They are shaking again. From the other reviews I don't think there is any hope.
