Jeep Grand cherokee 2005 problems
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a range of mid-size SUVs produced by the American manufacturer Jeep. At its introduction, while most SUVs were still manufactured with body-on-frame construction, the Grand Cherokee has used a unibody chassis from the start.
Development
The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors Corporation (AMC) was designing a successor to the Jeep Cherokee. Three outside (non-AMC) designers—Larry Shinoda, Alain Clenet, and Giorgetto Giugiaro—were also under contract with AMC to create and build a clay model of the Cherokee XJ replacement, then known as the "XJC" project. However, the basic design for the Cherokee's replacement was well under way by AMC's in-house designers and the 1989 Jeep Concept 1 show car foretold the basic design.
As AMC began the development of the next Jeep in 1985, management created a business process that is now known as product lifecycle management (PLM). According to François Castaing, Vice President for Product Engineering and Development, the smallest U.S. automaker was looking for a way to speed up its product development process to compete better against its larger competitors. The XJC's development was aided by computer-aided design (CAD) software systems making the engineers more productive. Meanwhile, new communication systems allowed potential conflicts to be resolved faster, thus reducing costly engineering changes, because all drawings and documents were in a central database. The system was so effective that after Chrysler purchased AMC in 1987, it expanded the system throughout its enterprise, thus connecting everyone involved in designing and building products.
The Grand Cherokee thus became the first Chrysler-badged Jeep product. Development work for the new Jeep model continued and Chrysler's employees (after the 1987 buyout of AMC) were eager for a late-1980s release date; however, CEO Lee Iacocca was pushing for redesigned Chrysler minivans, thus delaying the Grand Cherokee's release until late 1992 as an Explorer competitor. Unlike the Explorer, the Grand Cherokee utilized monocoque (unibody) construction, whereas the Explorer was a derivative of the Ranger pickup with a separate body-on-frame. A Dodge-branded version was designed as a precaution should Jeep dealers struggle to handle so many Grand Cherokee units.
The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the 1992 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The vehicle that was driven was a Poppy Red Clear Coat 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ Laredo with a quartz cloth interior and high-back bucket seats. Then Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman Young, from the Jefferson North Assembly Plant on North Jefferson Avenue via a police escort to Cobo Hall, up the steps of Cobo Hall and through a plate glass window to show off the new vehicle. Sales of the 1993 model year Grand Cherokee began in April 1992.
Production of the Grand Cherokee started shortly afterward in the purpose-built Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, Michigan. European Grand Cherokees are manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr. The Grand Cherokee "played a significant part in reviving Chrysler's fortunes by moving it into the then-nascent market for high-margin sports utility vehicles."
Upon its introduction, it was the first full-scale manufacture of an automobile in the US using HFC-134a refrigerant in place of HCFC-12 for the HVAC system.

Common Jeep Grand cherokee 2005 problems
The 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, while a powerful and versatile SUV, has its fair share of common problems reported by owners. These issues range from electrical and engine performance problems to transmission and air conditioning concerns.
- Difficulty Starting: This problem is often caused by incorrect inputs from a faulty PCM, which can lead to issues with the ignition system. In some cases, the jeep may not start at all due to the extent of the PCM defect. This issue can be mistaken for a blown alternator or a faulty starter. If there are no problems with these parts, it is essential to inspect the PCM.
- Check Engine Light: The check engine light may turn on due to faulty 02 sensors, emissions challenges, or PCM issues. If the PCM is the culprit, it will provide incorrect inputs, leading to various problems in the vehicle. To confirm this, it is necessary to have a mechanic analyze the car's error codes.
- Engine Performance Issues: The engine is the most crucial component of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and any faults in the engine should be addressed promptly. Common indicators of engine problems include red deposits around the oil fill cap and leaking at the rear seal. These issues may require replacing certain engine components or addressing erroneous engine codes.
- Temperature Blend and Recirculation Doors Failure: This issue can cause the air conditioning modules not to change or the temperature to be different on one side. For instance, the air would blow cold on the passenger side but hot on the driver's side. Replacing the air bend doors, recirculation doors, door links, or sub-assembly housing can help remedy the issue.
- Electronic Lockup of the Wireless Control Module (WCM): This problem can cause the engine not to crank or start. If the WCM or SKREEM is the issue, the remote keyless entry will also fail to work. Replacing the WCM can address the issue.
- Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM): The TIPM can cause issues with draining batteries, headlight flickering, and throttle issues. Some owners also report an issue with the fuel tank being hard to fill or shutting off during refueling. This can happen for various reasons, from the fuel tank, vapor recirculation tube, fuel fill tube, or EVAP system canister control valve. It might be best to have a mechanic diagnose the issue to find the reason.
- Power Window Motor Failure: This issue can be quite expensive to fix, with replacing the window regulator costing between $350 and $493, and replacing the motor costing between $331 and $462.
These common problems with the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee can be frustrating for owners, but understanding the issues and their potential causes can help in diagnosing and addressing them effectively.

Jeep Grand cherokee 2005 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the Jeep Grand cherokee 2005.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler Group LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, drivers should adjust their seat to allow clearance between the driver's knee and the ignition key, and remove all items from their key ring, leaving only the vehicle key. Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, to July 5, 2007, and 2006-2007 Jeep Commander vehicles manufactured January 31, 2005, to July 5, 2007. In the affected vehicles, the driver may accidentally hit the ignition key with their knee, unintentionally knocking the key out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the ignition key inadvertently moves into the OFF or ACCESSORY position, the engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including but not limited to air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems may increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. Chrysler sent interim notifications to owners in September 2014. The recall began on October 9, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P41.

Your uncle bought this car new in 2005, and I purchased it from him. It has 60,000 miles on it and is still going strong. While the V6 engine can be a bit sluggish, it still rides amazingly well. The gas mileage isn't great, but I'm not complaining. Despite being driven on a rough, dirt road by my uncle, it has only had a few problems.

Your 2001 Grand Cherokee was an outstanding vehicle with no problems, and this one looks like it may be as good or even better than the 2001 model. It's a solid, sporty, and handsome SUV. During my 600-mile trip, which included a mixture of interstate and mountainous roads, it handled nicely, and the seats were really comfortable. The 4.7 V8 is powerful and swift, and the 5-speed transmission is a smooth shifter. You can tell that this vehicle has the influences of Mercedes. DaimlerChrysler has added some much-needed creature comforts that the last generation should have had. I narrowed my choices down to a GC and a Trailblazer, and I know I made the right decision with JGC.

I love my jeep! It's about to hit 100000 miles and I've never had one thing go wrong with it. I'm scared I'll jinx myself now, but overall this car has been awesome. It's the best vehicle I've ever owned. Treat your jeep well and it'll be good to you!

Very glad to hear that you are satisfied with your purchase! It's great to know that the vehicle has been reliable for you and your family, especially on long trips. It sounds like Jeep really knows how to design SUVs that meet your needs and preferences.

I've owned this vehicle for three years and it's been great! I make sure to keep up with regular oil changes and it's still running smoothly with 152,000 miles on it. I haven't had any issues with the transmission fluid either. I would definitely buy it again!

I purchased my car in 2006 with only 23,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with it since then. I had to replace the transmission at 45,000 miles, and at 60,000 miles, I had to replace the starter, alternator, brake pads, rotors, and transmission again. Two weeks later, I had to replace the drive shaft and casings. Now, at 75,000 miles, I am considering replacing the drive shaft again and possibly a wheel bearing. The service manager at a dealership informed me that Jeep started making some changes in 2005 that may have caused these issues. It's important to be cautious when purchasing a Jeep from 2005 and onwards.

The Jeep initially appeared to be in great condition with only 75k miles on it. However, after reaching 80k miles, it required several repairs including new struts, a radiator replacement, and a tune-up with 16 plugs. Unfortunately, the transmission now frequently jumps into 3rd gear and the dash lights continually flash. Despite being Jeep's flagship model, this car has been disappointing. It is unfortunate that there have been so many issues and expensive fixes. Based on this experience, I will not be considering another Chrysler product in the future.

Although I have enjoyed driving my car, I have experienced some issues with it. Despite taking it back to the dealership four times in six months to fix a water leak in the moonroof and a tear in the driver's door seal, the wind-noise persisted after the seal was replaced. Unfortunately, the dealership was unable to reproduce the problem and therefore could not fix it. While I have enjoyed driving this car, my experience has led me to reconsider purchasing another Chrysler/Jeep in the future.

The car is experiencing some issues such as dying at low speeds, rough idle, and a check engine light related to the transmission. These issues seem to be common with the 4.7 V8 engine, as noted in other reviews and Jeep forums. Despite the car's aesthetic appeal, it is unfortunate that these problems have arisen. It is important to note that the previous '96 G.C. did not have any issues.

Although the Jeep was not the right fit for me, it is important to note that it may work well for others. I experienced some issues with the power band shifting and sluggish response, but the dealer assured me that everything tested well according to their diagnostic. Despite this, I have decided to trade it in for a Murano after six months of ownership. Thank you for considering my experience with the Jeep.
