Jeep Renegade problems
The Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Stellantis under their Jeep marque. It was first shown to the public in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show and production started in late August of that year. The Renegade was the smallest vehicle currently marketed by Jeep, until the arrival of the Avenger. It slots between the Avenger and the Compass. It is based on the FCA Small Wide 4×4 platform which is also shared with other FCA models, including from Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands.
The Renegade came standard with front-wheel drive, with optional four-wheel drive systems Active Drive I and Active Drive Low, both of which are paired with Jeep's Selec-Terrain System.
Overview
The Renegade is the first Jeep product to be produced exclusively outside of North America and has been sold in the North American, European, Brazilian, South African, Australian, Japanese and Chinese markets. The vehicle is built in Melfi, Italy with the designation BU/520, alongside the related Fiat 500X; Goiana, Brazil with the designation B1 (alongside Jeep Compass and Fiat Toro); and in Guangzhou, China codenamed BQ.
Standard Renegade models come with front-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available on Sport, Latitude and Limited trims. In the US, the lineup consists of Sport, Latitude and Limited trims, all of which come with a choice of front- and four-wheel drive, as well as the Trailhawk trim, which is 4WD only.
The Renegade has an available My Sky dual-panel removable roof. The My Sky can be either retracted like a standard sunroof or removed completely for a more open-air experience, similar to that of the Jeep Wrangler.

Common Jeep Renegade problems
The Jeep Renegade, a subcompact SUV assembled in Italy, has been a popular choice among car buyers since its launch in 2014. - Summary: The contact owned a 2020 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stopped on the expressway for roadway construction, another vehicle rear-ended the rear driver's side. The contact's head and face struck the steering wheel, causing a nosebleed. The vehicle spun and collided with two to three other occupied vehicles; however, the contact did not know if anyone was injured. The air bags did not deploy, and the seat belts failed to restrain the contact and her two minor children, seated in the rear passenger's and driver's side seats. The contact's child, who was sitting in the rear passenger's seat, was thrown into the trunk upon impact. The doors failed to unlock until the fire department arrived. The firefighters opened the door to evacuate the contact and her children. The contact and her children were transported to the hospital by ambulance, where police informed her that the vehicle that rear-ended her was driving at 90-95 MPH. The contact was unaware that police and fire department reports had been filed. The contact had body aches, and bruises on her stomach, legs, and back, and her left pinky was fractured. One of the contact's sons suffered from back and leg pain, while the other had headaches. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The contact later received an email from the dealer stating that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V510000 (Air Bags, Seat Belts). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was unavailable.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-14
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-22
- VIN: ZACCJBDT6GP
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: While driving around I suddenly got an alert from the car that the driver's side back up light, left turn signal light/rear tail light was no longer functioning. I had to drive around without people driving behind me knowing of any intent to turn left, which was a safety issue. I took it to an independent mechanic who replaced the bulbs and everything was back to normal, but only for 30 minutes. The same thing happened again on my drive home and I had to turn around to take it back to the mechanic. Upon further investigation, the mechanic noted that the connector for the light was burnt out and thus, causing a faulty connection, that had nothing to do with the lights themselves, and that could fail at any time. In trying to get a new connector, the mechanic found that they are on backorder, presumably because this is an issue being faced by numerous jeep renegade owners. So now, even if I wanted to fix the problem, I can't, which again, is a safety issue.

Overall, it's a great little SUV! It has much more room inside than it looks like from the outside. While the center console's cup holders could have been positioned a little more conveniently, I can't think of anything else negative to say. Additionally, it handles nicely and seems like it's very well constructed.

Handles great, acceleration is good, not a rocket but good. Not bad for a 4 banger. It feels tightly built, but comfortable and handles like a Wrangler 2 door somewhat. Lots of nice creature features. I love my little Renegade! It actually looks

First of all, I hope everyone is doing well. I wanted to address some concerns that have been raised about the ride and noise of this vehicle. However, I must say that I have had a completely different experience. Before purchasing this car, I made sure to test drive it and I found that it rides smoothly and there is no wind noise. In fact, I am averaging 30 mpg on the first tank, which is fantastic. The fit and finish of the car is perfect and I am particularly impressed with the Continental cross Trac tires that came with it. They provide excellent traction and are both smooth and quiet. Overall, I believe that this vehicle is an excellent 4x4 and a great value.

2 months into ownership, here are my thoughts. The good: I took it on some tough terrain and it performed excellently. The short overall length made maneuvering easy and fun. I love the interior look and feel, and have received quite a few compliments from both men and women. There's also plenty of headroom, even with the mySky. The back seat has enough room for 8 and 10 year olds. The bad: Opening the sunroof portion of mySky when there's morning dew will result in getting wet. With both parts of the mySky off and going at highway speeds, you'll need to roll down the windows at least halfway to avoid significant rattling of the center bar. The gas tank is small and the fuel mileage is just okay, so frequent fill-ups are necessary. I had the 4WD out of service light come on once, but turning the vehicle on and off made it go away. Conclusion: This is my first Jeep and I'm still having a lot of fun with it. I would buy it again if I could do it over. I did test drive the Latitude, which has a really different feel. Try both, as they are different animals. However, I would say Trailhawk or bust on this one. The Trailhawk is priced at the upper limit that I think Jeep could pull off, but it's worth it.

This is a friendly reminder that this is a light duty, mini SUV. While it may not be an off-road Jeep or a luxury Grand Cherokee Limited, it is still a fairly good quality marketing hybrid made with a Fiat frame, a 'world' engine, and an automatic transmission. Although the transmission may have too many gear changes and confused programming, it still gets the job done. The big engine could benefit from a turbo to enhance its performance, and the transmission could use an economy/performance dash control. It's worth noting that the transmission may shift every 200 to 600 rpm on level road every time the wind shifts, but we're confident that you'll still enjoy the ride!

We recently purchased a 2015 Jeep Renegade with less than 100 miles for our daughter. Although it was cute, we were disappointed to find that the brakes started squeaking before it even reached 1000 miles. We had to replace the front brakes around 1500 miles and the back brakes with only 500 additional miles on the car. Unfortunately, we are now experiencing issues with the electric locks and will need to take it back to the service department. Despite these setbacks, we remain hopeful that the service department will be able to resolve the issue. We appreciate their efforts and hope to have a dependable car soon.

I've owned two Wranglers before this one. I really like this little Jeep because it's easy to maneuver and parallel park. The brakes are very sensitive and it rides well. I've put 22,000 miles on it in the year that I've owned it. It used to use a quart of oil every two thousand miles, which the dealer claims is within the acceptable amount according to the handbook. However, it now uses a quart of oil every five thousand miles, so I change the oil then. I've had a few issues with the center console stack, which had to be replaced because the climate control and radio system kept turning themselves off and on, and changing their settings. This has even resulted in it resetting itself to metric readings. The fuel computer also kept freezing up and wouldn't change for weeks, no matter whether I was driving in the city or on the highway. The interior panels kept popping off and had to be reinstalled, but the dealer has replaced the panels with new hardware and they are now staying on. Although the center console still randomly changes the climate controls, the fuel computer is now working and shows that my mileage has improved. I've learned to live with all of the little nuisances of the vehicle. However, I do think that the transmission needs to be completely redesigned and the shift points reprogrammed, as it makes the car seem underpowered and sluggish. In my opinion, the quality of this vehicle could be a lot better from the factory. Despite these issues, I've owned two Wranglers and four Ram 1500s, and I must say that I really enjoy driving them. However, I would appreciate better quality from the manufacturer. If I could get a buyback and my whole loan wiped, I would gladly drive something else.

We have driven over 13k miles on our 2015 Renegade Sport 4x4 with the 2.4 liter engine and the 9 speed auto tranny. Although we have had some quality issues from the start, we still enjoy driving it. We also own a 2008 Jeep Commander that has been an excellent vehicle both on and off road. Our Renegade has had some wind noise at the driver's door since new, but we are working with the dealer to resolve it. The transmission can be a bit sluggish at times, but it hasn't affected our overall driving experience. We have had some minor issues with the door locks and brakes, but they have been resolved quickly by the dealer. Since it is built by Fiat in Italy, parts can take some time to get, but we have been able to get what we need. It is a cute little car that we would recommend to someone who is looking for a fun and unique driving experience. While the Renegade is different from other Jeeps, we still feel confident taking it out into the mountains of Colorado. If you want a Jeep, the Wrangler or Cherokee are great options, but we would still recommend the Renegade for those who want something a bit different. Update: Now at 19.5k miles, our Renegade is in the shop for the 4th time with continuing wind noise and window/door trim issues. The dealer appears to finally be taking it seriously now that we have opened a case with FCA and are discussing our options with a lemon law attorney. If they fail to repair it this time, we may file it as a lemon and see if we can force FCA to buy it back. We would trade out of the Renegade into a Wrangler in a heartbeat if the dealer would give us what is owed on it. Unfortunately that is likely going to require legal action. If you are considering the Renegade, we encourage you to do your research and make an informed decision. Update: Now at 27.5k miles. After the latest update, the dealer finally discovered that the driver's side window was malformed/warped, causing all the wind noise/trim issues in the driver's side front door. They replaced the window and solved the wind noise issue. We have no other major issues to report and have upgraded our star rating to a 3. Unfortunately, we don't have a Jeep dealer within 50 miles that knows the definition of customer service. However, our local GMC/Chevy dealer, which is absolutely outstanding, takes care of most of our maintenance needs now. As for the 40k miles update, not much is new to report other than the radio having periodic issues. To reset it, we have to disconnect a battery cable. It's just one more quirky thing on the 2015 Renegade.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to touch base with you about the car we purchased six months ago. Unfortunately, we've had a bit of trouble with it - it's spent two months in the shop and broke down three times on a road trip when it had less than 10,000 miles on it. We got it home, but it's still in the shop. I was wondering if you had any advice or suggestions on what we should do next? Thank you so much for your help!

I recently purchased a brand new Jeep Renegade, but unfortunately, I experienced some issues with it. The day after I bought it, some things on the dashboard started beeping and flashing nonstop. It took me a while to get my car into the shop, so I had to listen to the beeping every single time I drove. When my car was in the shop, they called me to pick it up, but unfortunately, the issue was not resolved. After two months, I finally got my car back, but during that time, my car got hit in the parking lot, so now it's technically been in an accident. I've had some problems with this car, which seems to be a common theme among other Renegade owners. However, I'm hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon. While the car doesn't have much space, it's still a decent car to drive. I would recommend it to someone who is looking for a smaller car.
