Jeep Gladiator problems
The Jeep Gladiator is a mid-size pickup truck manufactured by the Jeep division of Stellantis North America (formerly FCA US). It was introduced at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 28, 2018, and went on sale in the spring of 2019 as a 2020 model. Based on the same platform as the Wrangler JL, the Gladiator is Jeep's first pickup truck since the Comanche was discontinued in 1992.
Jeep Gladiator is also being marketed in Australia and New Zealand as the first markets outside the Americas. It is also officially available in North America, parts of South America, parts of Europe, China, Japan, South Korea, parts of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Israel, and South Africa.
History
The vehicle's name harkens back to the original Jeep Gladiator, made in 1962 until 1988 and known as the J-Series after 1971. Jeep considered reviving the Gladiator name alongside Comanche and most commonly Scrambler, as well as simply using a new name, before deciding on Gladiator, feeling it fits the truck the best.
A two-door version of a Jeep Scrambler pickup based on a lengthened Wrangler was shown in 2003 at the National Automobile Dealers Association meeting.
In late-2004 the Jeep Gladiator concept was introduced. The 2005 Gladiator Concept did not feature a removable roof, but had removable doors and a pickup bed. It also previewed the design of the upcoming Jeep Wrangler (JK). The Gladiator concept was powered by a 3.0 L Common-Rail Diesel (CRD) engine produced by VM Motori (similar to the one used in some models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee), mated to a manual transmission, and four-wheel-drive. It featured functional rear mini-doors, and rear seating. The Gladiator concept featured a green-on-gray color scheme for both the exterior and interior.

Common Jeep Gladiator problems
The Jeep Gladiator, a pickup truck with unmatched off-roading capabilities, removable top/doors, and stout towing capacity, has been a popular choice among adventure seekers. However, as with any vehicle, it has its share of issues that some owners may not be forthcoming about. Here are some common problems with the Jeep Gladiator based on complaints from owners:
- Steering Problems: The worst problem category for the Jeep Gladiator is steering issues, with the 2020 model year having the most overall complaints. The most-reported problem is wandering at highway speeds, which can be dangerous and cause discomfort for drivers. This issue is often attributed to the solid axles on both ends, which contribute to the Gladiator's off-road capabilities but result in a less enjoyable ride quality on the road.
- Wandering at Highway Speeds: This problem is particularly prevalent in the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, with the average mileage when problems occur being around 1,000 miles. This issue can be frustrating for drivers, especially during long trips on highways, as it requires them to slow down to under 40mph to stop the wobbling.
- Check Engine Light On, Cylinder Misfire: This issue affects the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, with the average mileage when problems occur being around 20,000 miles. This problem can be caused by various factors, such as faulty spark plugs, ignition coils, or fuel injectors, and can result in reduced engine performance and fuel efficiency.
- Quality Issues: The 2023 Jeep Gladiator has faced quality issues, including leaking hardtops, cracking windshields, breaking fender flare clips, and ripping upholstery. These issues can be frustrating for owners and may require costly repairs. However, it's worth noting that the number of complaints for the 2020 model year, which has the most complaints, is relatively low, indicating that these potential problems may have been resolved in later model years.
- Small Truck Bed: The Jeep Gladiator has a relatively small truck bed, measuring just over five feet long. This can make it challenging to load larger adventure crafts like dirt bikes, motorcycles, and mountain bikes, especially with the tailgate down. However, the Gladiator has the best-in-class payload capacity of 1,710 lbs, making it a practical choice for those who need to haul heavy loads.
- Bumpy Ride and Loud Interior: The Jeep Gladiator, like other Jeep trucks, has a reputation for having a bumpy ride and a loud interior. This is due to the heavy suspension components designed for off-roading and the larger chunky tires that add to road noise. However, the Gladiator's longer wheelbase makes it smoother than the Wrangler, and Jeep is addressing the issue of weak AC in the 2024 Wrangler by moving the location of the air vents to be more effective, which will likely be implemented in the Gladiator as well.
- Clutch Assembly Recall: The 2022 Jeep Gladiator has a recall due to a faulty clutch assembly, which could cause a fire if the clutch explodes. This issue can be particularly concerning for owners who regularly have their grandkids in the Jeep, as it may require them to act quickly in case of an emergency.
In conclusion, while the Jeep Gladiator offers unique styling, superior off-road performance, and a few advantages over the competition, it's essential to be aware of these common problems and consider them when making a purchasing decision.

I used to own a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee before trading it in for a full-size Nissan Titan in May 2020. At first, I thought I needed a full-size truck, but I quickly discovered how difficult it can be to maneuver in tight spaces. However, due to the high prices of used vehicles, I was able to afford a brand new Jeep Gladiator Willys edition, which I am absolutely astounded by. First of all, it's a Jeep, and having owned two Jeeps in the past, it's like being greeted by an old friend. Secondly, it offers a ton of truck utility. I got the tow package, which is rated at 6000lbs, more than enough for my boat or a moderately sized camper. The bed is 5' in length, compared to the Titan's 5'6

If you're in the market for a comfortable 4WD truck, the Jeep Gladiator Mojave is definitely worth considering. Even though I'm not into rock crawling, I feel like I could do it with this vehicle. As someone who mostly sticks to the mall parking lot, I appreciate a good riding truck and the Gladiator fits the bill. I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was compared to my previous TRD Sport, and the Mojave had an even better ride. If you're interested in a mid-size 4WD truck, I highly recommend taking the Gladiator for a test drive!

This jeep has been to the dealership multiple times. The first time was for the right side head gasket. Unfortunately, it seems to be running rough again, with electrical misfires on multiple cylinders. We really love this truck, but we're worried that it might become costly to keep once it's out of warranty. It's such a shame.

I recently purchased a 2021 Gladiator Sport with the 8-speed auto trans and Heavy Duty Tow Package. Unfortunately, when I attempted to tow my 21 ft. Bennigton Pontoon Boat (3000 lbs) trailer boat and motor, I encountered some difficulties. The truck seemed to struggle in every gear and had trouble getting out of 4th gear. Even when I tried manual shifting, it still didn't perform as expected. Although the truck is rated to tow 7300 lbs, I was disappointed with its performance. As someone who has owned 5 Jeeps, including a Call of Duty Rubicon that tows better, I was extremely disappointed. Additionally, I noticed that the truck tends to wander, which was a problem that I had read about in various write-ups. Overall, I feel that my $45000.00 investment was not worth it.

I experienced a cylinder misfire during the first few months of owning my 21 Mojave, which was caused by a faulty spark plug. Currently, I am facing issues with the front Fox shocks, but fortunately, they are under warranty. Despite these setbacks, I am still considering my options and have not yet decided to sell. While I am disappointed with the issues I have faced, I acknowledge that the seats are not as comfortable as those in a Honda mini van.

This truck is a great option, although it may require more effort to drive than some of its competitors, especially in high winds. While off-roading, it performed well. However, I did experience some difficulty switching from 4WD to 2WD, as the lever was initially stuck.

Hello! I recently purchased a brand new 2022 Jeep Gladiator Mojave edition and it's absolutely beautiful. I had to part ways with my 2017 Jeep Chief Edition, which was a great car with only 13,000 miles. Unfortunately, my new Gladiator stopped working after only 1,900 miles and I had to have it towed to the local Jeep dealership. It was quite an experience getting it into Neutral, but we managed it after about an hour. However, I was disappointed to hear that the dealership was too busy to look at it for 3 more days. I even received an email from Jeep Wave checking on me, but unfortunately, I didn't receive a response when I called them back. This has been the worst service experience I've ever had with any car, and this is my 4th JEEP! The dealer finally called me back and informed me that it would take 10 days or more to get a part. Unfortunately, it's been 15 days and I still haven't received any updates. It's so sad considering the price I paid for it - $61K. I'm even considering hiring a lawyer at this point. Thank you for listening to my experience.
