The Chevrolet Colorado, a mid-size pickup truck, has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues span across various model years and primarily involve transmission, engine, power steering, and fuel level sensor malfunctions.

Transmission issues are prevalent in many Colorado model years. For instance, the 2019 Colorado owners have reported shifting delays, with the truck taking about three seconds before going into gear. Slipping transmission is also a common complaint. The 2015 model year, in particular, has been criticized for its transmission problems, with some drivers experiencing a complete loss of power steering control.

Engine misfiring is another common problem, particularly in the 2004-2009 Colorado models. This issue, caused by worn-out valve seats, can lead to intermittent stalling of the truck. Faulty spark plugs and vacuum leaks have also been cited as possible causes. The 2015 model year has been identified as the worst for engine misfiring issues, with repair costs averaging $1300 and occurring around 29,000 miles.

Power steering loss is another concern, especially in the 2015 model year. Drivers have reported seeing the service power steering or StabiliTrak warning lights before losing control of their power steering. This issue has been attributed to low fluid levels, damaged belts, and faulty steering pumps.

Faulty fuel level sensors are also a common problem, leading to erratic and inaccurate fuel gauge readings. This issue has been reported across various model years, with the main culprit being the malfunctioning fuel level sensor, which needs to be replaced.

Based on these complaints, it is recommended to avoid the 2004, 2005, 2015, 2016, and 2018 model years of the Chevrolet Colorado due to their history of experiencing many problems, primarily transmission, engine, and AC unit failures. The 2015 model year, in particular, has been identified as the worst due to its high number of reported issues, many of which occur after only 10,000 miles. The transmission, in particular, is often faulty in these models, leading to potential danger when driving.
