First generation (2004)
The Chevrolet Colorado and its twin, the GMC Canyon were jointly designed by GM's North American operations, GM's Brazil operations, and Isuzu, which began selling its own version worldwide in 2002. In late 2005, Isuzu offered a version in North America called the Isuzu i-series. This North American model Isuzu shared North American powertrains, styling, and equipment with the Colorado/Canyon twins and differed from Isuzu's worldwide offering. All Chevrolet, GMC, and Isuzu versions worldwide are based on the GMT355, itself the basis for the GMT 345-based Hummer H3. Most vehicles for markets outside North America are manufactured at a GM plant in Rayong, Thailand. All North American-market vehicles were manufactured by Shreveport Operations.
The cooperation between GM and Isuzu to build a light-duty truck and offer it in North America returns to an original arrangement the two companies had in the 1970s with the Chevrolet LUV, a rebadged Isuzu Faster.

- Summary: While driving, the power steering stops working. I was traveling at approx 55 mph with my daughter in the car and the power steering quit. Alert lights came on the dash. I managed to slow down and turn off the highway. I turned the truck off and when I turned it back on it was fine. Drove for another 10 minutes to get home and it went out again at a stop light. I found a place to pull over and turned it off and back on and it stopped doing it again. There is a recall for this issue on this vehicle but evidently mine was not on the recall or was fixed prior to me owning it. I have not checked with the dealership, but I’m assuming it will be a large bill to get it taken care of. Hopefully it does not go out at a bad time.

- Summary: Key gets stuck in ignition when attempting to turn off vehicle. This leaves people stranded with their vehicles in hot/cold weather, dangerous areas, etc... Many people have been bypassing this problem by removing steering column and disconnecting a wire that allows the key to be released. But disconnection of said wire allows the key to be removed and shut off at any time, including driving down the highway at 70mph, serious safety hazard for driver and those on the road. Dealer has confirmed this issue and currently working on repairing my vehicle but it is a widespread issue with certain GM vehicles to include the canyon, colorado, camaro, and equinox.

Once the truck is restarted the problem goes away but will come back at some point while driving. This has happened multiple times at multiple speeds, the first time it happened I was going over 70 MPH. With no power steering it is nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel since I only have one hand available to use on the steering wheel. Had I not had a passenger with me to help turn the wheel I would have crashed. I took the truck to the dealer and they told me it was the same problem that the 2015's had had on a recall but my truck was a early 2016 so I was not part of the recall. The dealer was happy to fix it at a cost of $2916.27 My truck only has 27135 miles, but is to old for warranty coverage.

Vehicle year: 2017
I've owned two first-gen Toyota Tundras in the past, but I was hesitant to go American. However, the Canyon was the only truck that fit my narrow garage doors and had the size range I wanted. I chose it over the Colorado because of its unique features, such as the instrument cluster, and the dealership prices were comparable. Living in CO, I highly recommend the All Terr edition with 4WD, as it handles hills well and gets a combined driving MPG of about 23.7, which is a significant improvement from my old Tundras that only got 16 MPG. Although the MPG drops when driving over 80 mph, the truck still feels great at that speed. The fit and finish have been excellent, and I haven't had to visit the dealership in the 8 months I've owned it. However, I did make a couple of modifications to the truck, such as raising the low front end with an aftermarket kit and using an aftermarket computer override to adjust the shift points of the transmission when going up small hills. I'm aware that GM is changing the engine and transmission in 2017, but I'm not sure if an 8-speed transmission will be well-programmed for this truck. I didn't opt for the diesel because it was too expensive, and I didn't trust GM with such a new engine for this market.

As an older model, it may have some squeaks and rattles, but overall it has proven to be very reliable with 200,000 miles and still running great. Although I had some issues with the electrical system, it was nothing too crazy and easily fixable. This vehicle is perfect for younger drivers looking for a cheap, sturdy, and reliable option. It's built like a tank and can take a beating, as proven by my experience of being rear-ended and rear-ending someone else with no damage to the front or back. Overall, a great choice for those seeking a dependable vehicle.

I purchased this truck three years ago with 53,000 miles on it. Since then, I have driven it 2 times from Raleigh, NC to Chicago, IL, and it has only accumulated 57,000 miles. I absolutely adore this truck and feel secure driving it, whether it's through the mountains or just for short trips. Unfortunately, I need to sell it because of the jump seats in the back. While it was perfect for my wife and me, it's not practical for child carriers or small children since they can't see out of the side rear window. However, I would use extra pillows to help with that. Apart from that, I would drive this truck cross country and feel very safe. I now need to sell this truck because I require a full rear back seat. It will cost me more to get a crew cab, and I'm sure I'll have to get an older model truck, but my wife is the boss. I picked up this vehicle in March of '06 and immediately took it on a trip, getting mid to high 20's in MPG. Other than regular maintenance, it has never required any work. Previously, I owned a 2001 GMC Sonoma 4x4, but this 2wd truck saves gas. Since then, I have taken many trips with this vehicle, and it has performed extremely well! When my lease is up, I plan to replace it with another one just like it. I prefer this truck over those made by Japanese manufacturers!

I purchased the 2008 SLT Crew Cab 5cyl 4WD on December 4th, 2007. So far, I have driven around 6000 miles due to my 60 miles/day commute. Initially, the gas mileage was average, but it has steadily increased after continued break-in. Although the weight of the truck affects the mpg, I have been able to achieve 16mpg hwy. I plan to install a cold air induction, better plugs, and switch to synthetic oil to improve the mpg even further. The build quality is good, but the features are sparse. This is a basic truck, and if you want full-size goodies and vanity mirrors, you will need to spend an additional 10k. Fortunately, nothing has broken so far. The vehicle is fun to drive, but it turns like a ship. I hope GM fixes this issue and installs a 5-speed transmission. The interior is roomy, and the truck has ample hauling capability. Overall, I am satisfied with the money I spent.

The ride is nice and quiet, and the automatic shifting is smooth. However, there are a few inconveniences to consider. For instance, unless you opt for the $500 power package available on upscale or special order vehicles, you won't be able to unlock the passenger door from the outside, which can be unsafe and inconvenient. Additionally, while the front has 4 cup holders, they may not be suitable for larger bottles. On the bright side, the rear seat cup holders in the extended cab can hold a 1 liter water bottle. Lastly, the seatbacks do not recline with standard upholstery, and it would have been great if GM had made the tilt-forward access handle on the seatback recline as well. Overall, I would recommend considering an upscale model to avoid these inconveniences.

Nice looking truck and the interior looks pretty good, but unfortunately, I've had some mechanical issues. I've only driven 545 miles and already had to take it to the dealership for transmission problems. The truck tends to jerk when coming to a stop and hunts for gears when driving. I wish I had done more research before purchasing.

The new Canyons are absolutely stunning! The interior design is updated and eye-catching. I recently purchased the Denali 4 wheel drive, 2.7L 4 cylinder turbocharged 310HP high output engine with 430lbs torque, 20Your vehicle will be serviced in a few days for a complete system check. It seems that this is a common problem for both Chevy Colorado's and GMC Canyons, according to the forums. Please note that there are no switches on the dash for turning on your headlights. Most of your controls are located on the infotainment system screen. Until this problem is fixed for all, you are relying on reset procedures which eventually will work until the next incident. However, what happens when it just goes dead? We aren't even talking about the early buyers who were victims of dead batteries that were drained by a computer glitch in Detroit that was pinging the vehicles for software updates when there were no updates. This issue has supposedly been addressed and fixed, but it still worries me that it could happen again or that an outsider could hack the system, causing the glitch. Even GM doesn't know how it happened. This could be a great vehicle for those looking to downsize from a big truck, but there is way too much that relies on the electronic brain put into this vehicle. Please check the GM forums to see if these problems are prevalent in their other lines of vehicles.

To cut a long story short, my 4cyl short bed 2wd automatic only gets 15mpg, even with smooth acceleration and following speed limits, regardless of ethanol blend or 100% fuel. It's disappointing to get worse mileage than my friend's 4x4 3/4 ton 6.0 liter with 4.10 axle ratio. When I took it in for service, the advisor reported that everything was as it should be and that this is just the mileage they get. As a long-time GM vehicle owner, I was let down by this experience. However, I appreciate the service advisor's honesty and professionalism. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
