The Chevrolet Colorado (sharing mechanical commonality with the GMC Canyon), is a series of compact pickup trucks (mid-size since second generation) marketed by American automaker General Motors. They were introduced in 2004 to replace the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC S-15/Sonoma compact pickups. The Colorado is named after the U.S. state of Colorado, while the Canyon would be the deep chasm between cliffs.
First generation (2004)
The Chevrolet Colorado and its twin, the GMC Canyon were jointly designed by GM's North American operations, GM's Brazil operations, and Isuzu, which began selling its own version worldwide in 2002. In late 2005, Isuzu offered a version in North America called the Isuzu i-series. This North American model Isuzu shared North American powertrains, styling, and equipment with the Colorado/Canyon twins and differed from Isuzu's worldwide offering. All Chevrolet, GMC, and Isuzu versions worldwide are based on the GMT355, itself the basis for the GMT 345-based Hummer H3. Most vehicles for markets outside North America are manufactured at a GM plant in Rayong, Thailand. All North American-market vehicles were manufactured by Shreveport Operations.
The cooperation between GM and Isuzu to build a light-duty truck and offer it in North America returns to an original arrangement the two companies had in the 1970s with the Chevrolet LUV, a rebadged Isuzu Faster.

- Summary: While driving, the power steering stops working. I was traveling at approx 55 mph with my daughter in the car and the power steering quit. Alert lights came on the dash. I managed to slow down and turn off the highway. I turned the truck off and when I turned it back on it was fine. Drove for another 10 minutes to get home and it went out again at a stop light. I found a place to pull over and turned it off and back on and it stopped doing it again. There is a recall for this issue on this vehicle but evidently mine was not on the recall or was fixed prior to me owning it. I have not checked with the dealership, but I’m assuming it will be a large bill to get it taken care of. Hopefully it does not go out at a bad time.

- Summary: Key gets stuck in ignition when attempting to turn off vehicle. This leaves people stranded with their vehicles in hot/cold weather, dangerous areas, etc... Many people have been bypassing this problem by removing steering column and disconnecting a wire that allows the key to be released. But disconnection of said wire allows the key to be removed and shut off at any time, including driving down the highway at 70mph, serious safety hazard for driver and those on the road. Dealer has confirmed this issue and currently working on repairing my vehicle but it is a widespread issue with certain GM vehicles to include the canyon, colorado, camaro, and equinox.

Once the truck is restarted the problem goes away but will come back at some point while driving. This has happened multiple times at multiple speeds, the first time it happened I was going over 70 MPH. With no power steering it is nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel since I only have one hand available to use on the steering wheel. Had I not had a passenger with me to help turn the wheel I would have crashed. I took the truck to the dealer and they told me it was the same problem that the 2015's had had on a recall but my truck was a early 2016 so I was not part of the recall. The dealer was happy to fix it at a cost of $2916.27 My truck only has 27135 miles, but is to old for warranty coverage.

In extremely cold weather, power steering may stop working temporarily. This has happened to me twice. However, I was able to resolve the issue by simply turning off the vehicle, going into the store for a few minutes, and then restarting the vehicle. Although it can be concerning to think about losing steering control while driving at high speeds, it is important to note that this issue can be resolved quickly and easily. Additionally, it is common for fuel efficiency to decrease in cold weather, with my own vehicle dropping from 26mpg to 19mpg.

The Stabilitrac on this truck is truly amazing! I recently drove through a blizzard in the mountains for 7 hours with 1/2 a foot of snow on the highway, and this truck (2wd) with Firestone Winterforce tires handled it like a champ - no slipping or sliding, it drove perfectly. It also gets great mileage, with 20 city and 28 highway. Out of all the 4cyl pickups I test drove, this one was by far the most powerful. Not to mention, it looks great and I've had no problems with it in the 40,000kms I've driven it. While the rear seat in the extended cab is a bit small for adults, the front seats are very comfortable. Additionally, this little 2wd can surprisingly tow my 3000 boat with no problems and confidently get through deep snow. I would definitely buy another one!

Vehicle used mainly for city delivery. Fuel economy is 23 mpg on route. It has a manual shift which is okay, but no 'vette. It handles a 3000 lb trailer okay when called on. Overall, I would give it a rating of 'considerably above average'.

I got this truck during cash C4C and I absolutely love it! While it may only get around 15 miles per gallon in the city and doesn't have a lot of punch starting from zero, it more than makes up for it with its great power on the highway and real punch once you get over 50. Additionally, it's surprisingly quiet at high speeds compared to other trucks and has a smooth suspension that's great on washboard and bumpy roads. The interior is also fantastic, with plenty of room and a great design that doesn't feel cheap or plastic-y. I even replaced the factory tires and it now has a classic look that I adore. It's worth noting that Toyota and Nissan are now copying the big, boxy look of GMC trucks. Overall, I highly recommend this truck!

I was so excited when I picked up my new Canyon AT4! I drove it home from the dealer and then to work the next day, which was about a 4-hour drive. I absolutely loved my truck! Unfortunately, the next morning my truck wouldn't start. It's been sitting at the dealership ever since. They think they've narrowed it down to a short in the radio and are attempting to locate one. It's really frustrating to buy a truck you thought was great and not be able to use it, not to mention the worry of future problems.

At first, I really enjoyed this product! However, after some time, I noticed that several small issues began to add up and made me dislike it. The plastic molding is of poor quality, and the rear seat cup holder has broken three times. I had to take it to the shop twice due to a brake light recall. The front turn signal wiring harness only works when bumped in just the right way, and the gauges are poorly located behind the steering wheel. The air conditioner has a musty smell, and the rear cloth seats, which no one sits in, have torn at the seams. The rear seats squeak constantly and are very uncomfortable when used. The computer also acts up intermittently, and the alarm sounds when the truck unlocks! The worst part is that it is the exact same truck as the Isuzu I-370! Is it a GM or Isuzu?

I test drove this car and was initially excited about buying it. However, after driving it again, I decided to wait and possibly purchase it in the future. Specifically, I was looking at the crew cab, short box, SLE with all-terrain features. The price point for a mid-size truck is quite high, ranging from $36-39k. For that price, I expected a certain level of awesomeness. Unfortunately, the front power seats lack a tilt adjustment and in the SLE (leather trimmed, cloth middle), they are just a tad on the firm side. Additionally, the rear sliding window is manual and there is no manual locker on the All-terrain package (although it does have a type of locking differential). The short bed is also very short, making it impossible to fit a bicycle length-wise standing up with both wheels on without the gate down. On the positive side, the stereo was great and the interior styling was excellent. However, there is no push button start (personally, I prefer a key). The V6 engine is good, but it can be quite noisy when stepping on the gas hard. Furthermore, the 265 lb-ft of torque isn't enough for a vehicle that weighs over 4000 pounds. If this truck was priced at $28k, I would buy it now. However, I believe the prices will drop in the future. For $38k, you can get a very nice full-size truck (although many of us want something smaller) that probably weighs about the same and has a much more powerful engine. If they could have tuned the gasoline V6 to provide a bit more torque and improved the seats to the level of the Sierra, I would consider this truck a $38k vehicle. I plan on waiting a year and buying one when the prices drop or purchasing a used one. Overall, the engine noise and torque were the main detractors. However, I did test the vehicle off-road and it performed well. Additionally, the hill-descent feature was nice.
