Gmc Canyon problems

The Chevrolet Colorado (sharing mechanical commonality with the GMC Canyon), is a series of compact pickup trucks (mid-size since second generation) marketed by American automaker General Motors. They were introduced in 2004 to replace the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC S-15/Sonoma compact pickups. The Colorado is named after the U.S. state of Colorado, while the Canyon would be the deep chasm between cliffs.
First generation (2004)
The Chevrolet Colorado and its twin, the GMC Canyon were jointly designed by GM's North American operations, GM's Brazil operations, and Isuzu, which began selling its own version worldwide in 2002. In late 2005, Isuzu offered a version in North America called the Isuzu i-series. This North American model Isuzu shared North American powertrains, styling, and equipment with the Colorado/Canyon twins and differed from Isuzu's worldwide offering. All Chevrolet, GMC, and Isuzu versions worldwide are based on the GMT355, itself the basis for the GMT 345-based Hummer H3. Most vehicles for markets outside North America are manufactured at a GM plant in Rayong, Thailand. All North American-market vehicles were manufactured by Shreveport Operations.
The cooperation between GM and Isuzu to build a light-duty truck and offer it in North America returns to an original arrangement the two companies had in the 1970s with the Chevrolet LUV, a rebadged Isuzu Faster.

Common Gmc Canyon problems
Based on complaints from owners of GMC Canyon cars, common problems include:
- AC Blower Inop Due to Failed Resistor: Owners have reported issues with the AC blower due to a failed resistor. This can lead to a lack of proper ventilation and cooling inside the vehicle, especially in hot weather conditions.
- Worn Valve Seats May Cause Engine Misfire: Another common problem is worn valve seats causing engine misfires. This issue can result in poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and potential long-term damage to the engine if not addressed promptly.
- Check Engine Light Due to Gas Cap Issue: Owners have experienced instances where the check engine light illuminates due to a gas cap issue. A loose or faulty gas cap can trigger the check engine light, indicating a problem with the vehicle's emissions system.
- CD Player Inop: Some owners have reported problems with the CD player in their GMC Canyon. Issues with the CD player can range from CDs not playing properly to the unit not functioning at all, affecting the entertainment system in the vehicle.
- Exhaust System Problems: Complaints have been made regarding various exhaust system issues, including muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, and heat shield problems. These issues can lead to increased noise, reduced engine performance, and potential safety hazards if not addressed.
- Electrical System Concerns: Electrical problems such as battery issues, electrical loss while driving, and rare reports of fires have been highlighted by owners. Electrical system malfunctions can impact various components of the vehicle, affecting its overall performance and safety.
- Transmission Troubles: Transmission problems, including not shifting properly, have been a significant concern among GMC Canyon owners. Issues with the transmission can lead to difficulties in gear shifting, affecting the vehicle's drivability and overall performance.
These common problems reported by GMC Canyon owners highlight a range of issues that can impact the vehicle's performance, safety, and overall driving experience. Addressing these concerns promptly through proper maintenance and repairs is crucial to ensure the longevity and reliability of the GMC Canyon.
Is the GMC Canyon a reliable truck?
According to motorbiscuit.com, the GMC Canyon is the most reliable choice from the GMC brand. It boasts decent scores and excellent customer reports thanks to the low frequency of necessary repairs for the machine. It is tough and will last. Second and third place go to the GMC Terrain and the GMC Sierra 1500.
How long will a GMC Canyon engine last?
You will find that the GMC Canyon reaches around 200,000 miles with excellent care. Thus, high mileage for the vehicle is anywhere around or higher than 150,000 miles. Once it passes this point, it's far more likely that the vehicle will experience issues that are irreparable or more expensive than the Canyon itself.
Are there any recalls on a GMC Canyon?
Vehicles Recalled
GMC Canyon pickup trucks manufactured between Sep. 29, 2022, and Dec. 15, 2023. The problem: Improperly calibrated front camera module (FCM) software could cause the vehicle's AEB system to activate even if there isn't an obstacle present.
What is the most common problem with the Chevy Colorado?
Perhaps the most common issue found in the Chevy Colorado is the tendency for the engine to misfire (or backfire) — something that's been documented to impact models as old as 2004 and as new as 2016.

- Summary: While driving, the power steering stops working. I was traveling at approx 55 mph with my daughter in the car and the power steering quit. Alert lights came on the dash. I managed to slow down and turn off the highway. I turned the truck off and when I turned it back on it was fine. Drove for another 10 minutes to get home and it went out again at a stop light. I found a place to pull over and turned it off and back on and it stopped doing it again. There is a recall for this issue on this vehicle but evidently mine was not on the recall or was fixed prior to me owning it. I have not checked with the dealership, but I’m assuming it will be a large bill to get it taken care of. Hopefully it does not go out at a bad time.

Many people have been bypassing this problem by removing steering column and disconnecting a wire that allows the key to be released. But disconnection of said wire allows the key to be removed and shut off at any time, including driving down the highway at 70mph, serious safety hazard for driver and those on the road. Dealer has confirmed this issue and currently working on repairing my vehicle but it is a widespread issue with certain GM vehicles to include the canyon, colorado, camaro, and equinox.
Gmc Canyon 2016
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-22
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-07
- VIN: 1GTG6CE3XG1
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Electric power steering stops working and the power steering assist warning light is illuminated. Once the truck is restarted the problem goes away but will come back at some point while driving. This has happened multiple times at multiple speeds, the first time it happened I was going over 70 MPH. With no power steering it is nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel since I only have one hand available to use on the steering wheel. Had I not had a passenger with me to help turn the wheel I would have crashed. I took the truck to the dealer and they told me it was the same problem that the 2015's had had on a recall but my truck was a early 2016 so I was not part of the recall. The dealer was happy to fix it at a cost of $2916.27 My truck only has 27135 miles, but is to old for warranty coverage.

Great truck! It's very similar to my 2016 Colorado, which I loved. While I do wish the interior was upgraded and the back window wasn't manual, it's still a great vehicle. It doesn't have a front camera or tow hitch, but those are minor details. Overall, I'm really happy with it!

I just wanted to express my appreciation for the Canyon truck. It's clear that the style and hardiness of the vehicle are both top-notch. As someone who has owned a Ford for thirty years, including a Ranger pickup extended cab for fourteen, I can confidently say that Ford can't compete with what Canyon has to offer. Thank you for creating such a great truck! By the way, I happened to come across a 2006 Canyon left over with only 7 miles on it, and I'm so glad I did.

I've owned multiple Tacomas, Frontiers, and Ridgelines, and I must say, I really like midsize trucks. After careful consideration, I decided to go with the Canyon, mainly because of its improved driving comfort on long trips and impressive gas mileage. With 2,628 miles on it, my lifetime MPG is an impressive 22, which is better than any of the above trucks I've owned. I'm getting 22 in mixed driving and have even gotten over 25 on the highway! The build quality is solid, and I absolutely love the 6' 2

undefinedThis 8-speed transmission does not shift properly when going up or down hills under normal driving conditions, resulting in high engine RPMs (3500-4000). However, the shop foreman claimed that this is normal. As an expert in this field, I can confidently say that this is not normal and requires immediate attention. It is disappointing to hear about your negative experience with GM customer service. As a leader in the automotive industry, they should strive to provide top-notch customer service. I assure you that I will do everything in my power to ensure that your concerns are addressed and resolved in a timely and satisfactory manner.

I have owned my vehicle for 113 days and unfortunately, it has been in the shop for 36 of those days due to some electrical issues. The center console has been a bit of a challenge as the volume randomly maxes out and it becomes difficult to turn it off. I have found that the only way to get it to stop is by turning the vehicle off, which can be a bit inconvenient on the highway. Additionally, the center console has a tendency to constantly restart and if your phone is plugged in, it can cause it to hard freeze. I have also reported some transmission issues with hard shifts and clangs, and while GMC's response was not what I was hoping for, I am confident that we will be able to find a solution. I have had some challenges with customer service, as they have not been as responsive as I would have liked, but I am hopeful that we can work together to resolve these issues. I am currently in the buyback process and while it has been a bit frustrating, I am grateful for the support that I have received. I will be posting some videos of the truck's issues for proof of my complaints, but I would like to emphasize that I do not recommend this truck. I believe that there are better options available and I would encourage you to explore those instead of GMC.

Vehicle year: 2017
Watch out for the Chevy Lean! It's surprising that neither Edmunds nor Consumer Reports has addressed this issue. I bought a 2017 Canyon in October of 2017 after a difficult buying experience with the local dealer. I chose the Colorados and Canyons based on their high ratings from Edmunds and Consumer Reports, as well as the fact that they were made in the US. The next morning, I noticed that the truck leaned significantly to the left, almost 1 inch when I measured it in my garage. I took it to the dealer, who put it on a rack and measured it at 3/8 inch and said it was within GM specs and that it was purely cosmetic. I had the dealer take it out on the concrete at the showroom, and we measured it at 3/4 inch. The dealer said the slab could be sloped, so we turned the truck around and put it in the same place and got 3/4 inch again. They contacted GM, who said they were working on a fix and opened a case file. I was told to wait for a fix. A couple of weeks later, I found out on the internet that this has been ongoing on Chevys and GMCs to the extent it even has a name,
